Escuchar audio

Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon, both in their early 20s, disappeared on April 1, 2014, while on a hiking trip in the Boquete region of Panama. They were last seen on a trail in the dense jungle near the Continental Divide. The case drew international attention due to the mysterious circumstances surrounding their disappearance. The two women had been staying with a host family in Boquete and had planned a short hike to the El Pianista trail, a popular hiking route in the area. However, they never returned.Their disappearance sparked a massive search effort involving local authorities, volunteers, and even Dutch forensic experts. Despite extensive searches of the rugged terrain, no sign of the women was found for several months. Then, on June 22, 2014, local residents discovered a backpack belonging to Kris and Lisanne near the banks of the Culebra River. Inside the backpack were some of their personal belongings, including a camera, two cell phones, sunglasses, and a water bottle. The discovery of the backpack raised more questions than answers, as its contents provided few clues as to what had happened to the women.Over the following weeks, additional items belonging to Kris and Lisanne were found scattered along the riverbank. Then, on July 1, 2014, partial remains belonging to both women were discovered in the dense jungle not far from where the backpack was found. The condition of the remains and other evidence found at the scene suggested that the women had likely succumbed to the harsh conditions of the jungle after becoming lost or injured during their hike. However, the exact circumstances of their deaths remain a subject of debate and speculation.Numerous theories have been proposed to explain what happened to Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon, ranging from the possibility of an accident or exposure to the elements to more sinister explanations involving foul play or abduction. Despite extensive investigations by both Panamanian and Dutch authorities, no definitive conclusion has been reached, leaving the case shrouded in mystery and intrigue.(commercial at 11:08)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:https://www.the-sun.com/news/5342719/chilling-photos-found-camera-missing-hikers-panama-jungle/

They had prearranged to volunteer at a local school and were excited to spend time in the beautiful country.  When they went to the school to start their work, they were told there was no place for them. They were disappointed and looked for ways to fill their days. On April 1, 2014, Kris and Lisanne went for a hike on the El Pianista Trail. They were only planning to spend a few hours there and took no supplies with them. They headed onto the trail and were never seen alive again. Months later, some of their belongings were found, including their phones and a camera.  Investigators determined that they had attempted to make emergency calls from their phones for days after the hike, but the calls never connected.  There were many interesting photos found on the camera, including 90 photos taken in a short period, one week after they went missing.  One photo was found to have been deleted from the camera and authorities have never been able to recover it. Some remains of Kris and Lisanne were eventually found.

Lisanne's appeared to have decomposed naturally, but strangely, Kris' bones were stark white, as if they had been bleached.Their causes of death have never been determined. A backpack recovered by a local contained a camera with 90 photos taken on April 8 between 1 am and 4 am. Most of the images are of near-complete darkness. Thousands of protesters in Panama have blocked roads and shut down major portions of the Pan-American Highway this week over a government decision to fast-track a contract with a copper mining company.Cobre Panamá is a massive copper mine owned by First Quantum Minerals that has been in production since 2019. In 2021, the Supreme Court declared the government contract with the mine unconstitutional for not living up to stipulations that it serves the "public good."Panamá has been renegotiating a new contract over the last two years, attempting to provide financial benefits to the state. And this contract was fast-tracked through Congress last week, sparking outrage on the streets. Some unions have announced multiple-day strikes while schools have been closed. A protester holds a sign that says, "Panama for sale," a notable jab at Panama's government. He said it would safeguard 40,000 jobs and provide windfall profits for the Panamanian state."The agreement ensures a minimum payment to the state of $375 million a year for the next 20 years” — more than 10 times what Panama previously received yearly from the mine, he said. But former ally to the president, lawmaker Zulay Rodríguez, attacked the deal on the congressional floor.“You have opened Pandora's box,” she said. “You are going to bring devastation, and death. Not just for the Panamanian people, but for our water resources.”It's a view widely shared by Panamanians across the country. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week, the Bigger, Better World podcast takes a trip to Panama, talking to International Living Overseas Editor Jessica Ramesch about her recent scouting trip to the westernmost edge of Panama—the province of Chiriquí.Although it's a small country, Panama is a big destination in the world of overseas retirement and relocation. Just three hours' flying time from the U.S., with a dollar economy, year-round warmth, a busy metropolitan city, and two glorious tropical coastlines, the Central American nation is one of the most popular settling points for in-the-know expats. While many of those adventurers concentrate themselves in Panama City, or in the beach towns and resorts close by, there's a growing number of retirees, digital nomads, and work-from-anywhere professionals who explore a little farther, and find exactly what they were looking for in the Chiriquí region. That shouldn't be a surprise. Snuggling right up to the border with Costa Rica, Chiriquí is a mountains-meets-sea region, with enough altitude in the highlands to create its own cool microclimate, sweeping right down to the Pacific Ocean with its wild waves, tropical beaches, and secluded bays. Diversity is the key to the landscape here, with productive farmland up in the high spots giving way to deep jungle and green grasslands at lower levels. It all means that the prospective expat can pick and choose from a range of microclimates, finding the exact match for their personal preference. In her article for International Living magazine, and in her discussion with podcast host, Jim Santos, Jessica explores the many options for expats in the Chiriquí region, from the beaches of Boca Chica and Las Lajas to the city in David, all the way up to Boquete—one of the world's premier expat destinations. She paints a glorious picture of small farms, fishing villages, lush coffee plantations, deserted beaches, and horseback ranchers living a life that looks like something from centuries ago.Join host, Jim Santos, as he meets Jessica Ramesch in the latest episode of Bigger, Better World. If you're enjoying the podcast, we would really appreciate it if you could leave us a review on your favorite podcast platform: https://lovethepodcast.com/internationalliving.Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube

Roasting for espresso is a tricky business. Not only are there multiple variables that inherently complicate the extraction process but there is also a wide variety of opinion is and preferences for what the final flavor experience should be like. On this Rate of Rise episode we will be talking about how one world renowned roastery roasts for espresso and how their technique and approach has evolved over their history. We are talking with Jaroslav Tuček, founder of Doubleshot in the Czech Republic.  Born and raised in Czech Republic and graduating High school in Arizona US, Jaroslav has been in coffee since 2002. Starting as a barista at Portola Cafe in California, he obtained AN M.A. in Canadian literature from SFU in Vancouver where he continued work in coffee with 49th Paralell. Upon return to The Czech Republic he worked for the first specialty roastery learning fromjeremy Raths.  In 2009-2010 he left to Panama together with my gf (current business partner as well) and spend one year working for Graciano Cruz and Maria Ruiz in Boquete, mostly learning about the farm level. He had the opportunity to be part of HiQ Coffee launch in the US, where he worked with Graciano Cruz and Willem Boot on a development project in Chalatenango in El Salvador. They started Doubleshot in 2010, sourcing green from people we met or worked with in Central America. Over the 13 years we opened 4 coffee shops, training center, and bakery in downtown Prague. However, wholesale is still the major part of our business. We took part in many World barista, brewers or coffee in good spirit competitions.
