The boys drink and review Founder's Breakfast Stout then discuss the similarities between mindfulness and joie de vivre (starting about 3:30). The very act of reviewing a beer is an example. The point is not to see how fast you can get a beer into your belly, but to savor the moment, pay attention to the world as it's going by, and understand its complexities. What does mindfulness have in common with joie de vivre? They're both about noticing what's going on and taking pleasure in the small things. "Mindfulness" is often associated with New Age weirdness, but it doesn't have to be. At its core, it involves one part of your mind dispassionately observing what's happening in another part of your mind, or in your body. It seems to have a connection with the acceptance of suffering. Joie de vivre is similar except that it has an emphasis on cheerfulness and enjoyment. For both, you're focusing on the present moment. Most of our lives are chores and obligations. If you view all those things as drudgery, and your "real life" is only the fun stuff, you're not going to have much real life. You need to learn to enjoy all the aspects of your life. Are you going to allow your circumstances to control your life and your emotions, or are you going to take charge and live the life you want to live?

It's an understatement to say that the political discourse in our country is a mess! And the problem isn't that you just disagree- that you think someone on the other side of the political aisle has the wrong opinion. That's certainly a part of it, but the major political issues of the day that Americans are rightly discussing require patience and a nuanced understanding of different ideas to make progress. Instead, we have anonymous accounts on social media, partisan media, divisive rhetoric from leaders, and the pandemic which further polarized the political divide. All are factors that have contributed to politics being a hot button topic. Similarly, it's not just inflation that's causing everything to feel like it's costing us more money- that our dollars aren't getting us through to the end of the month. Inflation is a major culprit and we'll definitely talk more about that today. But there are some other factors as well and we think by zooming out and looking at the entire picture, that we'll be able to better understand the many different reasons that everything seems to cost us more than it used to. And then we'll share what steps we can begin to immediately implement in order to start defying these higher prices. During this episode we enjoyed a Breakfast Stout by Founders Brewing! And please help us to spread the word by letting friends and family know about How to Money! A Homebrew Podcast - Exit 12 Brewery, which is not a brewery (not one where you can go buy beer, anyway) joins the show. Nick and Brandon record their side of the episode in a house kept at 60 degrees - they are super committed to keeping those ales fermenting on the cool side. The chilly temperatures do cause some disputes about the nature of their friendship.
Heellllllloo. Welcome to the show. Jeremy starts off with an Oktoberfest beer brag, talking about Reunion Brewing's Oktoberfest offering. Then he reminiscences back to Simpler Times, the beer, in a foray into the Trader Joe's store brand offerings. Michael retorts with a brag on Central Waters' Oktoberfest. He then provides a brief overview of some brews from his trip to the Upper Peninsula, including Bell's Oktoberfest, Breakfast Stout, Ore Dock Brewing, Blackrocks Brewery, and a coconut brown (coconut brown). After all beer talk, we switch over to coffee talk, as it was vital to Jeremy's success in the Film Scream horror movie marathon. Jeremy summarizes the films and his experience. Finally, we move on to the FDR, where a beer that was "set up for failure", manages to impress. Within the conversation, we postulate a bourbon apple pie and recall that time we all had cigars.Beer in this episode: O'Fallon Vanilla PumpkinCheers!

Uh oh. We wade into "current" events as Jeremy's beloved Toppling Goliath pulls a jerk move. But before that, beer brags. Michael had a refreshing Amarillo hopped summer beer and some Old Engine Oil. Jeremy touts some brews he had while at trivia, including the 2015 vintage of Breakfast Stout. Michael entices Jeremy by giving a sneak peek at the first few chapters of Barrel-Aged Stout and Selling Out. Then we talk Toppling Goliath vs. Thew, without expertise, or really arriving at a precise conclusion. Finally, it is time for the FDR, which comes with a few diversions - a pop quiz and a podcast pitch.Beer in this episode: Ale Asylum HopaliciousCheers!

Trudeau goes to China, and it's weird. Plus, updates to the Ministerial Deathwatch list, and how MPs and Ministers read the mail. No beer review this week because we just drank Founders' Breakfast Stout again. It's good; try it.
On this faux-pas-prone episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, Rodbo and the Scotsman discuss a new Modesto brewery, Dagny Brewing Co. They drink City of the Sun IPA from Modern Times, and Beer for Breakfast Stout from Dogfish Head. Much laughter ensues, while they discuss such varied subject as Patrick's Sausage, the amateur videos that Rodbo and the Scotsman have starred in, and some great beer and breweries in the great Central Valley of California. Rodbo makes some startling admissions (you've never drank WHAT?), and the Scotsman vows to get Tom Lucas from Blaker Brewing on the Show. It's a good time, and you don't want to miss the latest episode of the Ale Evangelist show.

Check. Check. Is this thing on? Everybody wants some Mikerphone Brewing, and we find out exactly why on this episode. With a mixed 4-track of Mike Pallen’s beers, we have our asses rocked by a few of the best beers we’ve had in a long, long time. We share an update on Mikerphone’s new location, and discuss New England style IPAs, beers as musical instruments, and the fault of first impressions in craft beer. But then there’s some disgusting stuff about buckets, Gloria Estefan, Halloween masks, and girdles. Also, there’s some weak high fives, Craig’s day of action, and a game about Nirvana lyrics. Gabe and Jeff do a taste comparison between Founder's Breakfast stout and New Holland's Dragon's Milk while discussing how they have their offices set up. The conversation ranges from standing desks to big monitors to clacky keyboards... mice... trackpads — you name it. The most important features on their desk during the show are the beers and the new TapCellar coasters however. Be on the look out for these things because they turned out really nicely. Founders Brewing Company has been influencing the way Midwesterners drink for almost two decades, so we show our appreciation by drinking their beers to excess. We review eight diverse 12-ounce offerings from the Grand Rapids brewery, only pausing briefly to play a little Founding Fathers trivia. Well, actually, the beers are so good that we get obscenely inebriated and talk about Craig’s DJ name, fond Breakfast Stout memories, getting Hop Fades™ for FoBAB, and who’d win in a fight between us. It’s that kind of show, folks! Ryan 1. Backwoods Bastard 2. Breakfast Stout 3. Imperial Stout 4. Mosaic Promise 5. Dark Penance 6. Devil Dancer (2012) 7. KBS 8. Harvest Ale Craig 1. As Jenny returns from her family vacation, our good friend Lisa sits in as co-host for a great sit down with our friend from CNN, David Daniel. We play a little SNL Alumni Draft for our ficticious comedy teams. It was a lot of fun and it was great to Have Lisa fill Jenny's big shoes. Also- BMI squashes the little man, Archie's going to die, Sriracha's neighbors suck, Stephen Colbert is going to blow up, Chimpanzees are smart but it's too early for Planet of the Apes, and Portland is about to receive a Bend transplant. Show Beer was Fort George's Suicide Squeeze IPA. Pre-Show Beer was Mikkeller's collar with Anchorage Brewing, BreAKfast Stout. A huge thanks to Lisa, Mainbrew/ABV Tap House, David Daniel, and YOU!
