EPISODE IN BRIEF Today, Nick and Chris get into the nitty gritty of evolving your brand. Are you hustling to make sales and ensuring you remain profitable at the expense of developing your brand? Have you given thought as to how you can create fame for your business – and to hero your brand for extra sales leverage? Today's episode of Coaching Conversations is more of the terrific Up-Coach wisdom we need as we wind down an enormous year and gear up for the next… Time Code/Show Notes 0.26  Intro: Business coach experts Nick Psaila and Chris Herbert put some context around the notion of building fame for your business. 2.15  Nick looks at examples of evolving brands including Harley Davidson. HD is more about the lifestyle than the bike – yet the bikes have evolved in 2022 with new models that retain their heritage HD aesthetic with a Gen Z edge. 5.52  Outdated tropes include best service – cheapest prices. Everyone does it – or says they do it. It's not a valid USP anymore. You cannot lean on these common propositions alone. Nick talks case studies; McDonald's, Nokia and American Girl. 9.53  Evolving does not mean changing your whole brand; it means deep diving into the psyche of what the consumer wants from your product or business. The evolution of McCafe or Uber Eats for McDonald's. The evolution of Taxis  - with score ratings to combat the growth of ride-share companies.                       11.25 Perception is real – and 80% a done deal. Websites must be ultra-slick. Travel industry sites have to supply current video /  real photos / walk-throughs – the perception must be 2022. 15.20  Listen to your customers/clients. Look at your own Google reviews and compare to your competition. 18.32  Perception is key to evolving your brand. It's a powerful thing to consider just how your brand looks to the wider world. 19.52 Nick wants us to consider the tastes of our audience. Look at the way spa baths have evolved – there are now spa pools that seat 12! Tap into the needs and wants of your clients. Evolution is key –  products like mobile phones used to have a six-month shelf life on average. Now it's six weeks. 24.49  How do you interact with your audience? How do you keep current if you don't know what they want? Do they want personalised service? Do they want to be left alone? How do you get that information? 26.40 Case study; Ikea and the evolution of kitchen supply/installation 28.00  When you observe your client's needs and wants, you can begin to evolve the way you service them. But in doing so, do NOT lose sight of your own personal visions. Don't change so rapidly that you lose who you are. What can you do to be that little bit “extra” ? Case study; World Cup 2022 in Qatar. 32.00  If you'd like to know how a business coach can help you evolve your business, email ask@upcoach.com.au for more information on today's podcast. EPISODE SUMMARY Three main take-aways from today's episode centre on getting to know your client needs and wants. People change - and their needs change. It's as simple as that. Failure to recognise your customer values means failure to evolve in any sense. Don't ignore your customer. Perception is the deal breaker. What you look like, feel like, how your brand speaks to the world – in person, online, across your marketing. And think about how you can freshen up your brand without losing the essence of why you went into business in the first place. Evolving your brand is all about asking your customers “what do you want' and adjusting your brand accordingly.

EPISODE IN BRIEF Today, Nick and Chris talk discuss business trends in 2023 and how collaboration can be a vastly superior strategy to competing in non-busy periods. How do we, as business owners, lift each other up and truly get through tough times together? By looking differently at your two biggest outlays of rent and wages plus cash flow and materials, you'll see a wider picture and a new way forward in 2023 when things are slow. Today's episode of Coaching Conversations is just the motivation we need to feel good about contingency planning as we go into this challenging period for small business. Time Code/Show Notes 0.26  Intro: Business coach expert Nick Psaila and Chris Herbert talk cherry picking AND cherry pick ways to ultimately increase cash flow in 2023. 2.30  Global economies will play a role in how businesses will need to shift mindset. 4.30  When you have gaps in your workflow and jobs are pushed out, what are you going to do with your workforce? 5.25  Increase your opportunity to take on more work by looking at geographics – you could combine two businesses together in different regions. Inter-collab the size of two workforces with different assets to take on a job you'd never otherwise tackle! 6.32  Ever thought of combining with another firm to buy materials? Buy in volume – store it – or everyone takes their share. Brilliant! 7.45  Stumbling blocks of mindset include ego-driven road blocks to fear of loss of business – but if you look at it from the perspective that you weren't going to get that business anyway – and you've created an opportunity by shelving competitiveness – what an extraordinary outcome! 8.25  Collaboration helps with positioning. By borrowing expertise from the other company, you've now created new opportunities that were not previously possible and outwardly you've changed the offerings of your business. 11.05  Working with a non-competing but similar operation, you can share human resources – send your team to help out – expose them to another workspace – place them where they can make a little extra money. Sub out your staff – it's a win-win for everyone. 15.45   How will collaboration manipulate your cash flow? Why pay the team if they're not ‘producing' – sitting around on the job – cleaning out the shed for a few days? Go in clear – contracted -lend them your guys – make it reciprocal. Collaboration with another business can be clever if you do it right. 18.20 Form the working relationship first and work your way into talking about your similar struggles. Start small. Build trust. 20.23  Work smarter not harder, collaboration is the way forward. 21.20  If you'd like to know how a business coach can help you seek collab with like-minded businesses, email ask@upcoach.com.au for more information on today's podcast. EPISODE SUMMARY Finding a complimenting business to yours can be the beginning of a wonderful and profitable new working relationship. Open up new opportunities to earn and you can also re-position yourself as a company that offers more. Remember, a non-competing stance will help with job placement and you'll expose your team to a new workspace or job skill. And finally, give your cash flow a kick-along by parking your ego and forming a trusted collab – it can be a win-win for you, your employees and the partnered business!

EPISODE IN BRIEF Today, Nick and Chris discuss `what hat to wear when' as you go about running your daily business. How do you break down responsibilities and roles? Are you still wearing every hat (as you did from day one?) This episode asks you to consider the number of hats you wear daily; from your business leader hat to sales…. to your recruiting hat. Learn how to rewire your thinking so that you save money by delegating the jobs you have outgrown! It's an eye-opener – so simple, yet so challenging for dedicated business owners.  See how you can begin to let go or change hats in today's installment of Coaching Conversations… Time Code/Show Notes 0.26  Intro: Business coach expert Nick Psaila and Chris Herbert talk about business hats and why you need them. 1.20  Your role needs to be evolutionary. You must grow incrementally, change, evolve, and swap the hats you wear as you need them. Some you'll be able to give to someone else, and some hats you'll always have to wear yourself. 4.40   Nick uses the NDIS as an example of how an organisation may delegate who wears which hat at what time…        5.59   How do you know when to give that hat to someone else. How do you know you've owned that role for far too long? When you see that system is more powerful than you, you will realise you are not pivotal to that particular role. 7.40  Don't find yourself in the business where you have become hostage to various roles that sap your energy and well-being. Have you fallen in love with your captor? Can you take 2-3 weeks off without it affecting your business? Have you made a monster of this ‘relationship'? 10.00   Are you making excuses for your business? Do you believe that no one else can do what you do? Do you make excuses to get out of social situations because you ‘can't take any time off because of the business'? 11.52  If you feel like you are wearing too many hats, you probably are. 12.30   What are you really worth? Is your time worth taking an hour out of your day to do the mail run – or to pick up extras from the hardware? Can someone else wear that hat!? Think about your personal hourly rate and note what you would save if you sent someone ELSE to do that errand. It's a simple but empowering exercise! 14.10  What hat must you always wear? Your hat of Leadership and Training. 16.20 Do you wear your Marketing hat well or can you delegate this important lead-generating role? 16.55  Finance Management: if you don't wear this hat accurately, the ATO will. Be across it. You can't leave this hat on the nightstand. You cannot allow your bookkeeper to wear a financial management hat. 18.07   Operational management: this is less about systems and more about people. A hat you must wear. A hat that evolves over time as you give back to your company. 21.20  If you'd like to know how a business coach can help you change your ‘hats', email ask@upcoach.com.au for more information on today's podcast. EPISODE SUMMARY        Knowing `which hat to wear when' begins with knowing your role in the company. Where are you today… and what role needs to be filled? Secondly, how much are you worth to the business? This awareness helps you realise how important it is to delegate and free up your valuable time. And the leadership hat. Wear it with gusto and pride; you are the leader of quality control and training. It's your business to uphold the standards. Thinking deeply about the evolution of your role - and the business itself – will give you the greatest idea of which hat to wear or when to pass those hats on to others.

Time Code/Show Notes   0.35  In this episode from the Evolve Upper Limits Mastermind,                      Chris Herbert dives deep into sustainable entrepreneurship.      1.20  Chris begins with an interesting case study about Ben, a business owner `on the tools' with a hard-working ethic, but little cash and no clear vision of what success looked like. 8.00  86 percent of Australians are experiencing a level of burnout. On average, we have stockpiled 16 days of annual leave and we are not taking holidays. 9.20  Australians rate themselves just over four out of ten for work-life balance. We are all clearly struggling to switch off, to find ways to be with our loved ones/to do the things we love outside of our business. 12.00  The discussion turns to the question of ‘why do we all work so hard'. Money, self-esteem, societal norms, control and fear are just a few of the answers. 15.25  Draw your own success circle and realise that money does NOT determine success. How can you strive for a level of harmony when you spend a great portion of your life at work…. 18.30  Think about how you can create more `time'. Focus on working on ‘big rocks'. 21.10  Execution; communication is paramount, how often do you chat with your partner and NOT speak about work? Do you compromise…. do you put your work first, failing to seek compromise which then brings conflict? 26.20  Compassion; it bridges the gap when you put yourself in ‘their shoes. 27.20   Family; have rules. No phones at the dinner table. No business calls taken after 5.30. Carve out time. Be present. Your kids will remember. You also have to roughly plan your weekend – you'll have a more fulfilling family life as a result. 29.40  Memories; be more present. You in your family's life – that's all that matters. 31.15   Sleep; it's important. There's a reason you feel tired. Listen to your body. Exercise – to get the best version of you. Make sure you are eating well; make lunch, invest some time into eating better with a meal prep delivery. Prioritise. 35.00  Mindset. Feed and fertilize your mind as you would a garden. Plant the good seeds. Reading, listen to podcasts, become effective and learned. Build the best version of you. 36.20  Ask yourself; how much does it matter to you? What can you do to achieve work-life balance faster? Is work more important than your family… how much does your partner need from you… 37.10  If you're not right – nothing is right. ‘Progress = Happiness. Just a small step each day.  Think about what defines your level of success and you'll realise it's the little things that count. 40.01 Inspired? Hit up upcoach.com.au for more.

EPISODE IN BRIEF Fresh from the UpCoach Two Day Mastermind event on the Gold Coast, Nick and Chris talk more about the Giver's Gain principle. Giving first and giving something of value – without expectation of return – is a powerful business tool. If you replace expectation with appreciation, all parts of your life will change. Nick calls them `Connection Credits'… and this episode is all about building value through relationships and generosity. There's a lot to take-away from today's Coaching Conversation so let's get into it…. Time Code/Show Notes   0.26  Intro: Business coach expert Nick Psaila and Chris Herbert break down the elements behind the Giver's Gain ethos. 1.33  The principle of Giver's Gain is to give something without the expectation that you shall receive something in return. Ivan Misner speaks of the profound advantages of Giver's Gain with referrals – sooner or later it will come back to you. The concept was later formalised in the book The Psychology of Influence. Nick shares insight on the Hari Krishna. 5.30  How can you invite this principle into your business… it's the idea of the `free sample' or complimentary consult. 7.30  Remember, the principle of the Giver's Gain is that the ‘bonus' you give does not have to be a physical product. It can be as simple as advice. It must, however, represent value. 8.30  Free information is a great example of Giver's Gain in business. Your advice can be via EDM, audio, in the form of a face-to-face consultation that costs nothing. But it must be meaningful. 9.15  Nick talks about business ‘karma'. A big part of the equation is the more you help others, the more you help yourself. 10.50  Tony Robbin's `appreciation over expectation' is a great mantra to follow. 11.30  Cultures that give to each other without expectation, thrive. 13.00  Be generous with your expertise or product. To give without receiving. See how that feels. But then you must eventually have the courage to ask for the sale/signature. 80 percent `give' and 20 percent `ask' is a fair structure. The principle is not to feel used but to be the first to ‘give'. 18.50  Give with genuine intent even though you may find some people are sceptical. Like attracts like – you'll attract those people who genuinely like to give as well. 20.20  The Giver's Gain principle cuts through to feelings of gratitude instead of the simple act of survival/putting out fires. It presents happiness as an option. It brings meaning outside of money-making. 22.36  If you'd like to know how a business coach can help you integrate the Giver's Gain principle into your business, ask@upcoach.com.au for more information on today's podcast. EPISODE SUMMARY        Giving without the intention of receiving anything in return is an age old principle that is simply good business. Showing you care can mean you receive more in ‘karma'. But ensure the care or advice is valuable. When you run with the Giver's Gain principle you subscribe to the notion of appreciate over expectation. If you make a difference to someone's life, you will be `their top-of-mind person'.  This is not about feeling used, it's about building a relationship where you give first.  Reciprocal energy exchange is important. So keep giving and the rewards will eventually be yours.

EPISODE IN BRIEF In today's episode of Coaching Conversations, Nick and Chris talk about the breakdown of money – and your relationship to it. They'll flip your perceptions around cash flow with a keen focus on business owners who habitually check their bank balance and freak out. Sounds uncomfortably familiar… Or perhaps your bank balance gives you a sense of security… that is often misplaced. No matter how you frame your attitude to money, if cash flow keeps you up at night, this podcast is for you. So, let's get into another tremendous episode of Coaching Conversations…. Time Code/Show Notes 0.26 Intro: Business coaching experts Nick Psaila and Chris Herbert talk about relationships with money…. 2.20  Why do we react to money as we do… how can we understand our motivations… and how our understanding of finances is dictated largely by the way we were brought up. 3.45  Whether you love/hate money, your interactions with money are heavily influenced by your formative years and those adults who introduced you to currency – how to earn, how to save it. 6.25  Nick believes money is associated with a particular ‘energy centre' – eg, safety, security, tribal association. Association with a horror bank balance can take you right back to experiences that were a result of a lack of money – anything from parental separation to moving from a private to a public school. 10.00 By association, an unhealthy bottom line can send you into an instant spiral as you replay events with emotions of the ‘old you'.  Your programming around money can involve guilt, shame and blame. Negative associations with money can begin to replay decades later. 12.50 Understand that you are not your past. Address the way you now teach your kids about money. Nick has some great ideas to share. 14.25 Identify patterns. We are firmly entrenched in default patterns. Do you get a little bit of money, then burn it all… do you act out habitually and can you identify when it happens? Be aware. 17.55  Change requires new input. Re-set the bar. Make the choice to avoid reacting negatively to your bank balance. Make the choice to avoid feeling hopeless. 22.30  Focus on what you can do to increase your bank balance. 26.20  Reach out to ask@upcoach.com.au to learn more about how you can dig deep to overcome ingrained attitudes to money and form a positive relationship with your finances.                                       EPISODE SUMMARY        Remember that you must cast aside your negative past with money. You are not defined by poor financial experience nor should you allow yourself to feel hopeless about cash flow. Your interactions with money can only change by re-setting the bar, however, you can only do this by identifying unhealthy default patterns. Only then, can you recalibrate and begin to study money and understand your emotional responses to money. It's fascinating but also very simple – change requires change. And it's something you can work on immediately. Good luck.

EPISODE IN BRIEF In today's episode of Coaching Conversations, Nick and Chris talk about work-life balance – or work-life integration. You could be in the office on the phone – or by the pool answering the same call. It's the luxury of working for yourself AND embracing integration that will change the way you perceive freedom. Forget balance. Think integration. This eye-opening theory with lead you to think about unrealistic views of achievement at the expense of enormous sacrifice. It simply isn't necessary with a clever new mindset. Take notes; as usual, there's plenty of lightbulb moments when Nick and Chris get together… Time Code/Show Notes  0.26  Intro: Business coaching experts Nick Psaila and Chris Herbert talk about work-life balance…. 1.40  Nick believes work-life balance involves making a choice                         - between work or life to create ‘balance'. Integration is the buzz. It's the only way to realistically work smarter. 3.13  Resign to the fact that you are an entrepreneur. Then ignore outside expectations. You choose to do what you do and stop apologising for it. 5.40  In order to have integration between work-life, you need to be honest with yourself. The luxury of being an entrepreneur is the freedom to integrate both worlds. 6.20  Nick is adamant that you learn to make a choice. Say yes to integrating work or leisure when you can. It's fine to say ‘work is work' but the blend allows to you not forget about YOU. 10.03  Mini-breaks are mini refreshers. Can you commit to a plan to add in long weekends without the guilt… you should never have a problem with taking time off. You must delete outdated programming. Nick's own father had ten years of sick leave accrued and they never ‘went away. 15.00  This idea of work-life integration sets you up for a mentally healthy retirement; you must be aware of your life's purpose before you give away the grind. Depression and suicide rates after retirement are through the roof. 15.30  Start looking for things you like doing NOW. Have goals that involve your hobbies. 17.05 The final step is to set this new thinking of integration as your new norm. 21.40  Many people have an addiction to work which gives them life purpose. This is incredibly dangerous. Your self-esteem should never be a 100 percent attached to your job. 22.20  You have to be the commander – learn to avoid compartmentalizing work and life. There's more to life than just business. No one wants to perish prematurely. 26.20  Reach out to ask@upcoach.com.au for more insightful stuff on how you can create integrational change to your work-life situation.                                      EPISODE SUMMARY        Today's takeaway is to allow yourself to LIVE A LITTLE. You have the power to take time when you need it. Honour yourself to do this – and do it regularly. Make integration the new norm. Value yourself enough to ensure you put yourself first. Don't have regrets. Have experiences. It sounds like FOMO but it's a valid proposition; as humans, we are all made of memories.   Don't wait to integrate work and life to make good memories …no excuses, no enormous sacrifices. You can do it now.

This chapter questions old school reliance on referral and goodwill, so get ready to take notes; Nick and Chris will blast some myths and lay down the rules on why you must adapt to on and off-line marketing rapidly – or risk your income source drying up and being left behind. Time Code/Show Notes 0.26  Intro: Business coaching expert Nick Psaila and Chris Herbert talk floods to holiday parenting…. 2.05  Do you rely on referral or word of mouth? Do you consider them a good lead source? Are they the best form of lead generation? Repeat business is good – don't lose it. But you cannot come to rely on it. Do not get comfortable. 4.45  You avoid ebbs and flows; instead of being reactive to word of mouth business, you are building away from the central force. You need to build consistency in marketing to succeed. 6.02   If you're not driving leads and only relying on referrals,            someone else will be grateful to pick up the new clients you're ignoring. Nick and Chris talk about McDonald's, Coke and Bunnings – these mega corps are creating habits for consumers by “always being there” regardless of success. 8.00  Chris prescribes to the squeaky wheel principle. The squeaky wheel always gets the oil – eventually! 8.40  Can you control the quality of the referral lead and ensure it aligns with the business you operate? Not all the time! Do you really want to waste your time on clients without a natural business synergy because you feel you “owe” them - as a  referral? 10.00  You can begin to attract the client you want with targeted online and offline marketing. Work with clients or prospects you'd LIKE to work with! Research your prospects before you leap and alter the messaging to chase the clients you want. 12.30  Control costs. Referrals DO cost you time and energy – they are not free leads. Meeting an unqualified referral can cost you time - and money (think petrol, parking, food). 14.50  If you have too many leads, you must begin to scale! Sell or outsource? Can you get a percentage for passing on the lead?    Surplus leads can become another income source! 17.40  Nick discusses ten different income streams including social media spending around 8-10k a month. Scale-ability means you don't have to wait on referrals. 19.20   Marketing is very much like planting a seed. Insta,                    Website, Facebook, Twitter, Google Ads, YouTube. Organically it's very difficult to up your conversions without nourishing the different branches of online marketing. 26.20  Reach out to ask@upcoach.com.au for more help to leverage your online and offline marketing.                                                EPISODE SUMMARY        Today's take-away was leveraging lead variety – you must learn to leverage other lead flow sources. And do it now! You alone get to control the ebb and flow so you don't have to rely heavily on referrals. You'll also have power over the quality of leads and the volume of lead generation with natural synergies to your business. Plus, consistency in costing and the ability to scale it efficiently which go hand in hand. Even if that marketing landscape looks like two online sources added to word of mouth, you're making a great start. And don't forget - the Squeaky Wheel concept – you must never, ever stop marketing your business. Now … go build some great lead leverage!

The open rate is up to 90%            as opposed to email open rates of 20-30%!  US studies show                  female Boomers and Millennials love to receive direct mail – but there is a catch; it cannot be generic content, it must be specific. 18.00  Did you know that response rates are five to nine times higher than any other marketing channel? Here's another stat – 64% of people hit up the website as a result of what they found in their letterbox! 21.50   How can direct mail work for your business? 22.20  Chris outlines the unique long term strategy; Create valuable, tangible material. For example,  a postcard with a QR code? Think of UNIQUE mail. Real Estate Agents and local counsellors do this well. Brainstorm attention grabbing gimmicks – desk calendars,                           magnets et al. 31.52   Send your DM to a targeted list of prospective clients and do it on repeat! After that, send extra mail to a targeted suburb.                      Consistency is EVERYTHING to lift your profile and create a                        conversation. 36.15  Provide a subtle call to action! Don't be `selly' but give them as much information as possible. 37.50  Start conversations to build a relationship. Why? Because everything is built on trust. 38.30:  Consider these elements to make your DM work; What's in it for the client? Serve first – sell second. (How do you make their lives easier so they reach out to you?) Keep it personal! (Chris shares his client's successes – make it relatable. Humour is also fun) Consistency is critical – it won't work unless you repeat it over and over. 40.50  Jeff Bezos declares go “step by step, ferociously” which could have been written about direct mail marketing! It's highly effective and responsive but it IS a long-term game.       Valuable Q&A and feedback;   One panelist is surprised that mailouts are so popular in this digital age. Another asks if email and direct mail should be used side by side in their marketing arsenal…  A panelist (Tony) relates the story of a client who won a                                 coaching competition via DM.  EPISODE SUMMARY        Coaching Conversations Mastermind Presentations open up terrific dialogue on all things marketing. Were you surprised that Direct Mail is making an enormous comeback? PUT SOMETHING IN THEIR HAND! And create conversations by allowing clients to touch, feel and read. People make time for physical publications; boil up the kettle, peruse over a cuppa! It's all about creating connections. But remember…. it is a long-term game. Consistency and repetition will make future customers look forward to your direct mail landing in their letterbox. The formula is simple. What's in it for them? Serve first – sell second, keep it personal and consistency is critical. That is the beauty of the Letterbox Formula!

How do you make decisions in business? Do you trust your instincts? Do you trust your processes when faced with weighing up pros and cons? In this episode of Coaching Conversations, Nick Psaila and Chris Herbert want you to “back yourself in business”. Qualify who you want to work with before you line up the options. If you're not feeling it, learn how to dig deeper. The reasons will save you heartache, headaches and even bigger dollars. So … discover how to get the most out of good decision-making by identifying and trusting those gut instincts…. in the latest “Coaching Conversations” with Nick and Chris ….! Time Code/Show Notes 0.22    Welcome to the show and intro. 1.38  Nick gets to the nitty-gritty of trusting your gut with a tale about a difficult client – and we've all had those! Qualify your client on the front end and determine what you want from the transaction. Identify and trust your own feelings. 4.40  Pre-engage with the client, whether that's through your first line reception or call center. Check your filters and hoops so your clients fit your particular criteria. 6.30   According to Nick, trusting your sixth sense is paramount;         emotions play a huge part in the decision-making process no matter how impartial your structures and filters in business may be. Identify those with similar energies. Finely tune your   “people radar” in the workspace just as you would in a social situation. 8.25  Does your heart react faster than the brain? Nick talks about how you can make more influential decisions minus ego. 11.01  Listen to your senses, use your logic. There's a natural synergy to the elements of knowing what you value and knowing what you want. As Chris asserts, if your values do not align with a  client or colleague, you're inviting a world of hurt. Is it worth your time moving forward? Listen to your instincts! 13.40   Be aware of compromising your sanity and values for the dollar.        There should be no decision when the only options are losing your money or your soul.  If you can free yourself from a working partnership that is going nowhere, you make yourself available to others where you can make a real difference.  16.00  Don't concentrate on the one percent. Let them go and give your time and energy to the clients who share your values. 20.00  If it feels wrong, it probably is! Chris paraphrases Tony                        Robbins “If you trade expectation with appreciation your entire life will change”… 23.00  If you want to break down your decision making processes talk to us this week at ask@upcoach.com.au    EPISODE SUMMARY        The essence of today's chat? Being true to yourself and acting with integrity. Know when to deconstruct a personal or business relationship should you feel like you're banging your head against a wall….it's a clear sign that you are not acting in line with your values. Listen to your gut. With a greater level of awareness, you can trust yourself in a decision and stick with it. And the reason you need to back yourself and trust your instincts? They're “built” for you. Gut reactions are yours and yours alone; a bespoke system to guide you away from danger and towards those who share your energy and values.

Today in Coaching Conversations, Nick Psaila and Chris Herbert discuss the importance of financial KPIs. If you're serious about growing your business you must have clear financial targets. Loose or vague numbers won't get you where you need to be. Weekly or monthly, are you striving towards a financial goal? If not, why not? As a base question, how did you go this week? How much money did you make? Nick and Chris dive into how businesses must be accountable for improving profitability with thoughtful, fearless goal setting. So, let's go!  Targets – why you must set them and what happens if you don't – in the latest episode of Coaching Conversations! Time Code/Show Notes 0.22   Welcome to the show and intro. 1.55   Are you one of the many Aussie businesses that don't have concrete financial targets? Do you leave it to your accountant?                      Do you feel secure about what's in your account – or do you avoid looking at your figures as much as possible? 2.56   Nick begins with the number one reason to have sure financial targets. Accountability. Do you know what you're quoting? Do you ignore financial data? How do you keep on track to set your financial goals without basic data assessment? 5.08   Nick has great markers on how to become accountable. No more head in the sand! Understanding and overcoming the fear of the unknown plus repetition is the key.  You will become better at numbers! 7.20  “The numbers will become a picture”. As you improve, ask for help, talk with your bookkeeper/accountant, the numbers will no longer hold you hostage. Don't fear it – and keep doing it – that's when it will fall into place. 8.50   A lot of clients say “we didn't make a lot of money last month so        we'll work harder” or “my net profit figure doesn't match what I                    have in my account!” Nick talks through the immediate changes you can make for real difference. 10.15  Target to assess? Covid hammered almost every industry and more than ever – initiating accountability gives you a target to assess. On a short-term basis, Nick says this is key to avoiding the fallout of plummeting profitability. 13.00  We feel a sense of accomplishment when we value money.                  Dialing into the money and the numbers help with a feeling of “reward”. Money is not everything, but it's Business 101 and it gives you options ie money to finance the equipment. 16.10   Having targets give you choice.  From hiring and expansion to cash flow to marketing… without a profit account, you don't have choices to keep the business growing. It can be selfish - but also selfless in that you have choices to give back to the community(personal) or help a team member (business) 19.30  Increasing your asset worth is a supplementary reason to shoot for - and constantly assess - financial targets. 22.25  Like to learn more about financial target setting? Reach out to Nick and Chris at …. ask@upcoach.com.au  EPISODE SUMMARY        The message is crystal – there's no point working harder and not smarter if you don't have clear financial targets and strategies in place. The big take-away here revolves around accountability. Without accountability, you will forego assessable targets. Additionally, feeling a sense of accomplishment is important as you are rewarded for hard work. Success, at the gut level, is why most people are in business themselves. Don't forget that having that healthy profit account gives you choices.   And finally, the knock-on effects of setting goals can increase your asset worth. Understanding how much money you're making  - and where it goes – plus knowing that steady growth month on, month off is vital to selling your business! Hitting objectives is always impressive. So, get better at the numbers and eventually the numbers become a “picture”. It's this picture of profitability that makes running your own business all the more rewarding!

In this episode of Coaching Conversations, business growth experts Nick Psaila and Chris Herbert break down the reasons we procrastinate and how we can overcome the tendency to shelve the hard decisions.   Whether it's marketing or lead generation, the root cause of procrastination could be costing your business tens of thousands. Nick and Chris discuss the ways in which rationale, logical decisions evade even the most astute business owners. Often it can cost you MORE to fence sit (and those splinters hurt!) This inspiring episode of “Coaching Conversations” will encourage you to re-focus on landing clear-headed, timely decisions. You will be reminded that calculating the cost of not making that decision can bring clarity. Because as we all know, time is money. Enjoy! Time Code/Show Notes  0.26  Welcome to the show and intro. 1.34   Nick dives straight into why the tension of procrastination connects to “desire” and “will” … and the subconscious decision of business owners “not to act” on making a decision.    4.19   Is procrastination simply not acting on a desire? 4.30   What are the triggers of procrastination? Nick discusses the events and thoughts that can cause you to stall on making a business decision; common triggers include hiring a new employee, spending money and making a call on your own health habits. 6.40   Nicks crunches procrastination down to “making a non-decision based on lack of data”. Investing in cryptocurrency can illustrate the example of procrastination due to a “wait and see” mindset. The trigger? The possibility of losing money. 7.35  Another trigger is “replay” otherwise known as the voice in your head. It can make indecision easy to accept - and repeat.   8.50   Procrastination can be used in clever ways but in business, it simply costs you money. It is a thought process that retards  action. 9.20   Nick lays it on the line. Ask yourself, what is the cost of indecision?  What's it going to cost if you don't buy that software  – or the new ute – or if you don't pay your super? What happens if you're procrastinating over a decision to stay in a  stale relationship? 11.15    It is important to calculate the enertia – decide what you need to do to make the decision happen. 14.15   Consider the last time you made a serious decision, did you set yourself small goals around making that happen? Nick insists this is a vital step towards a satisfying outcome. He uses the example of hiring a new employee; filter by phone call first, only do a small number of interviews until you're ready to progress…make the decision-making process easier! 16.05    The only way to move through procrastination is to BEGIN! “Start by starting,” says Nick. If there's a lock-in point today, it's to simply BEGIN. 19.30   If you need help with tackling procrastination in your business reach out to Nick and Chris. (It's an easy decision to make!)                            …. ask@upcoach.com.au  EPISODE SUMMARY        So much to take away in this episode – so let's get started!   When business owners everywhere are employing caution more than ever, you must learn to tackle indecision in order to thrive. Ask yourself what's the trigger? What's the replay? What will it cost you if you don't act at all? You must decide on the enertia needed to get yourself moving. And don't forget that setting small goals, creates a clearer path. The final note is to “start by starting” – if you suffer from procrastination (as we all do to some degree in our professional and personal lives), moving forward only comes with “starting the thing”. Keep reminding yourself that indecision will cost you more than “not” making a decision. Changing your mindset towards decisive action will become easier with practice and eventually, become second nature!
