Today, I discuss all of the other .30 caliber cartridges I didn't cover in episode 286. None of these rounds use a .308" bullet, but all are still .30 caliber cartridges and most fill a similar niche as the .308 Winchester and 30-06 Springfield in various parts of the world. As always, I'll talk about their history, design characteristics, performance specs, their strengths and weaknesses, and their recommended uses in detail. Where appropriate, I'll also share some personal anecdotes involving these rounds as well as some observations involving various cartridges by noteworthy gun writers as well. Cartridges covered: 7.5x55 Swiss, 7.62x39mm, 7.62x54R, 7.62x53R, 7.65x53 Argentine Mauser, 303 British, 7.5x54mm MAS, 7.7x58mm Arisaka, 32-20 Winchester Join me at the Dallas Safari Club Convention in Atlanta 9-12 January 2025. More details are forthcoming, but I'll be hosting an event for listeners and past, present, and future African safari clients at the show. Tyler Freel is back on the show today to talk about a recent moose hunt where he cleanly killed a nice bull with the new 22 Advanced Rifle Cartridge using his AR-15. I Feel like I owe it to my audience to give them the best and most accurate information possible and sometimes that involves challenging previously held beliefs about what people think you “need” to hunt certain animals. This is one of those episodes. So was one of Tyler's previous appearances on the show with me in ep 282 where he talks about killing a grizzly bear with the 6.5 Creedmoor. You are of course welcome to disagree with us, all I ask is that you keep an open mind as Tyler and I discuss this hunt in detail. As you'll discover shortly, the little 22 ARC delivered surprisingly good terminal performance on a big Alaskan bull moose and we discuss why that was the case in great detail today. I just made it home from an outstanding mule deer hunt in New Mexico with my son. I'm not exaggerating when I say that hunt was one of the most fun hunts I've ever been on. We dealt with some wild conditions, had a lot of fun, and ultimately were successful in tagging a buck. As a disclaimer, Better Than Humans does not condone animals sacrificing their lives for humans. We love animals. This whole podcast is about how animals are better than human. But this week we wanted to highlight and celebrate some heroic deeds by heroic animals that saved humans or their own species from extinction. Listen as Jennifer and Amber tell the amazing tales of animal heroes from of Trackr, a German shepherd dog who sniffed out survivors after 9/11, and the amazing messenger pigeon who saved two hundred soldiers during WWI to tales of beavers saving a young boy in Canada, a part wolfdog who saved his human pact from drowning, and Diego the Tortoise who helped save his species one female Tortoise at a time. Then lastly we learn what a Sheep, Rooster, and a Duck have in common. WhenTrackR raised $50 million from investors that included Amazon a year ago, the Santa Baraba startup made a big splash in the growing market for small connected dongles that you could attach to “dumb” objects like keys to keep tabs on their location. But times for the company have been challenging since then. It's weatheredlayoffs; a succession of natural disasters; and its co-founders stepping away from exec roles asCEO and president.

Personal Asset Tracking has been one of the great success stories of the Beacosystem. Companies like Stick-N-Find, Trackr and Tile were some of the first vendors and they have been selling many millions of beacons. Haystack Magic is a new challenger to the approach these incumbents have used, with a software solution that uses lower cost general purpose beacons. The Haystack Magic user interface is designed to use the way the human mind works to track things. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

My guest in this episode is Christian Smith, co-founder and President of TrackR. Their company is a startup based in California, outside Silicon Valley, at a remarkable place called Santa Barbara, and it is a quite successful hardware startup so lots of things to learn in this interview. TrackR works in the intelligent personal item tracking space, so their products help you find your lost items. Since its start in 2009, it has grown tremendously from being a startup operating out of a garage to a global operation, with over five million devices shipped worldwide. TrackR is built into many products, as Christian explains it in this episode, from leading brands like Amazon, DoCoMo, HP, Cross Pens and more. In this episode you get to hear the story of how they got their idea on the beach, what it entails to be passionate or obsessed about something. There are many many more topics we discussed as you can see below in the highlights. Enjoy this episode. You’ve all heard “Liar, Lunatic, or Lord,” but why isn’t it plausible for Jesus to be a “liar” or “lunatic?” 2000 years after the apparent resurrection, couldn’t Christians be off or mislead in how we interpret history? All the same, we still believe, and feel strongly that Christians can learn a lot from atheists. At the same time, before atheists write off Christianity, it may be helpful for some to truly understand what we believe in the first place. Lastly, Toby and Matt discuss the huge perks of playing in a worship band. Links & Sponsors: badchristianmedia.com Hubble: hubblecontacts.com Trackr: thetracker.com promo code BADCHRISTIAN

Mike Herrera of MxPx joins Matt and Toby in studio while Toby is in Seattle for a Matt & Toby show. They talk about sound guys, tour managers, and getting kicked off shows for smoking. Did you know MxPx used to get frustrated on the road with Christian ska band, O.C. Supertones, for preaching so much on stage, MxPx has their own beer, and Mike wasn't confident enough in Pokinatcha (MxPx's first album) to share news of its release with his high school peers? How did that MxPx punk mascot come about and is it true that a Satanist helped with Life in General's album artwork? Have you ever lost your phone somehow? And have you ever gotten your lost phone back? I have experienced lost my phone on a cab and got it back in about an hour by using “Find My Phone” feature. It was the most emotional hour I have ever experienced and we decided to talk about this experience in depth. 01:00 My first-time ever almost 10-min monologue, without any interruption by Bo :P We also talked about keeping chat history. I have been keeping my chat history on Wechat for a long time and it will kill me if I lost it. 10:00 We started to analyze what terrifies me most, losing the phone itself, losing my private data, or losing the record and files on the phone. There are three buttons (sound an alert, lock your phone and erase your data) on the Find My Phone app and it’s interesting how people under different scenarios use the three features differently.22:00 While iOS users enjoy the benefits of Find My Phone app, Android users seem a bit helpless when scenarios like the above occurs. 38:00 We get into serious debate whether Apple should backup the phone before user erase their data on the phone.50:00 How can people keep track of other things in their lives, like your wallet, a jacket, etc. ? And Bo talked about the new gadget he got for his other belongings, TrackR.
