Abstract: In this article, I discuss how the ancient analogue to what President Nelson has called “the covenant path” might be seen in the Book of Mormon and elsewhere in scripture not so much as a journey of covenant-keeping that takes us to the temple but as a journey that takes us through the temple. As we prepare for the Easter season and celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we often sing the hymn “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” But what if we temporarily shift our focus from rejoicing that the Redeemer lives to rejoicing in how he lived for us? In this episode Professor Tyler J. Griffin, associate dean of Religious Education, discusses his article “I Know That My Redeemer Lived” from The Power of Christ's Deliverance. He emphasizes how everything the Savior did and said in his day-to-day life was focused on helping others and doing God's will. In recounting Christ's service and miracles, trials and tribulations, and Crucifixion and Resurrection, Professor Griffin illustrates how the Savior chose to live each day for us. Ultimately, knowing how Christ lived for us can empower us to emulate his example and become more like him. Click here to learn more about Tyler J. This is a panel of three gay/same-sex attraction men who are following the covenant path and are not happy with alternative voices to that path. Cwic Show has always tried to elevate these voices. "They think the church is denying us from greater happiness and joy by enforcing these archaic Biblical beliefs and that the Brethren should just whip up some revelation to make it easier for us so we can have our gay marriage." - Discussion on the Pride Flag - How they interpret LGBTQ attacks on the church - The role of "Identity" Some gay Latter-day Saint influencers in the church don't always give a complete covenant path message and they are growing in popularity. In fact, they are traveling around the country giving stake firesides. Often these firesides are good and spiritual. But a quick check of their podcasts and social media shows something different. The voices on this panel are important but are rarely amplified even in "main-stream" LDS media. This is a travesty. Website - www.cwicmedia.com

Host Martin Tanner's guest, BYU Professor Kerry Muhlstein, PhD, answers the question "What is the Covenant Path" we are supposed to be on? What covenants has God asked us to make? What blessing await those who follow those covenants? The Abrahamic Covenant, Baptismal Covenant, Endowment covenants, Sacramental covenants, and others are discussed. Promising to obey covenants does not restrict, but gives freedom. Just as safety results when traffic laws are obeyed, obeying God's covenants yields blessings - far greater than can be imagined. In his new book "Finding Promised Blessings on The Covenant Path" (available on Amazon, at Seagull Book, Deseret Book, etc.) Professor Muhlstein explains these concepts in greater detail and many others.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Conversation Not Happening In The Church Jacob Hess and Carol Rice are from Public Square Magazine, a great resource we use often at Cwic Show! Take a look- https://publicsquaremag.org Are church members unprepared for these new ideologies and culture shift? There are new comments in church that "just feel off" Do we stay silent in class when these comments are made? Does the "Spiral of Silence" pull us away from what we say in Sacrament talks, Sunday School lessons, to our children? "We can't ignore the order of heaven, and that's the family!" Some may believe that the Covenant Path is not for them. "If you believe that, it changes everything." "If it's anti-family it's anti-Christ." All of these new ideologies have something in common, they seek to deform, deconstruct, and destroy the traditional family. In regards to these new ideologies, "why is this particular storm of cultural hostilities reaching and affecting us so much? And why are our defenses not holding in this case?" Finding Christ in the Covenant Path offers a fresh but faithful focus on the journey of covenants and discipleship through the double lens of ancient words and medieval images. The first part of the book helps us see Christ's identity as our Redeemer by exploring the ancient words that connect covenants, redemption, worship, the presence of the Lord, and sitting down enthroned in God's presence as his children and heirs. The second part of the book reveals Christ as our ransom by exploring medieval images, particularly the image of Christ. With personal anecdotes, historical background, and scriptural analysis, this section uses devotional images and late medieval practices of contemplation as a strategy to come unto Christ. By using medieval images as a counterpoint to Restoration practices and ordinances, we can more fully appreciate the gift of God's Son and see that gift with fresh eyes. Our overarching covenant commitment is to do God's will “and to be obedient to his commandments in all things that he shall command us.” (2021, D. Todd Christofferson, Why the Covenant Path) “The Savior invites all to follow Him into the waters of baptism and, in time, to make additional covenants with God in the temple and receive and be faithful to those further essential ordinances. … Consider seriously the enabling laws of the Lord.” (2019, Russell M. Nelson, “Come, Follow Me”) “The reward for keeping covenants with God is heavenly power—power that strengthens us to withstand our trials, temptations, and heartaches better. This power eases our way. Those who live the higher laws of Jesus Christ have access to His higher power. Thus, covenant keepers are entitled to a special kind of rest that comes to them through their covenantal relationship with God.” (2022, Russell M. Nelson, Oct. 2022) “My beloved friends, in our shared ministry of reconciliation, I ask us to be peacemakers—to love peace, to seek peace, to create peace, to cherish peace. I make that appeal in the name of the Prince of Peace, who knows everything about being “wounded in the house of [His] friends” but who still found the strength to forgive and forget—and to heal—and be happy.” (2018, Jeffrey R. Holland, The Ministry of Reconciliation))Talk of Him is presented by Seagull Book and hosted by Ganel-Lyn Condie and John
The title of this episode is the title of a poem written by this week's guest, Selina Forsyth. The poem, which she reads here, contains several wonderful metaphors that most of us can definitely relate to. In many ways, a work like this poem can aid us in actually coming to know our own selves better. The episode certainly contains conversation about the covenant path and spiritual journeys—rich territories in and of themselves. But it features much more. It discusses the creative process and its many parallels with revelation, instruction, and experiencing things at a much deeper level than when in our typical waking lives. In fact, for those who have struggled with meditation or other spiritual practices, diving into the world of creation/co-creation and working with our hands, our voices, and our imagination can often be a catalyst that assists us in coming to know more of what mystics know. It has paid off for Selina, and as an example, she credits it with a complete change in how she understands scripture. As the discussion turns to the poem itself, it raises several issues. One is the power of religious narratives and accompanying rituals have to, in some cases, lull us into a sense of being above the fray, and actually harming our sense of urgency to explore God and Spirit more deeply. In other sections, Selina and LDF host Dan Wotherspoon discuss various other things including the less formal stories we tell, and how goodness is far more powerful and affirming of God's presence in our lives than are ideas and theories and teachings. It's a terrific discussion! Come meet the wonderful and powerful Selina!

President Nelson Draws a Line! One of the keys to countering the current cultural revolution is to follow the advice of President Nelson and the Brethren. President Nelson has given us an Identity Hierarchy with an order and consequences for not following that order. We can see this order with a line under the first three identities. All other identities and labels fall below this line. This is a message that takes the air out of Intersectionality and the Postmodern "live your own truth" movement. It decries Identitarianism and gives us a model to follow based on who we really are and following the Covenant Path. Website - www.cwicmedia.com
