Bennett, formerly E. Bennett, a transgender singer/rapper and songwriter. Raised in New York City, Bennett's passion for music started as young as 2 years old. Growing up in the chaos of the city, music helped raise him. With diversity around every corner, he soon fell in love with all genres of music. Early on, he gained inspiration from singers like Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson, and the artists out today like Chris Brown, The Weeknd, and Drake. “Growing up transgender was not easy and what made it easier was having music with emotional and heart felt lyrics to be able to express what I could not.”In 2012, Bennett got his start as an entertainer when he was signed to Look A Likes USA as a Justin Bieber impersonator. He traveled all over the country performing Justin’s songs and dances in baseball stadiums and special events, all of which he sang live and carefully learned the dances to go with the songs. After his contract was up, he decided he was going to become his own artist and start making his own music.Having gone through many trials and tribulations, years of dedication and not giving up, he soon found his way to making music his life. He has gone on to work with artists like Bizarre from D12 and Dribbz, a talented artist from the U.K.; producers like Eldar-Q and Legion Beats. Having released 3 albums and much more music on the way, he is currently releasing his new docu-series called "Being Bennett" on YouTube, where he goes in depth about his life as a transgender musician. He looks forward to the next chapter in his music career as he continues to grow and mature as an artist.https://www.imbennettmusic.com

The outsiderz formed in 1991 after underground rappers Young Zee met D.U. and Pacewon at a New Year's Eve party. At the time they met, Young Zee and Pacewon were rivals Pacewon & D.U. were members of a crew named PNS, while Zee headed a crew named Pskitzo (aka Maddfile (aka A-Form). They decided to unite into one group called the Outsidaz, following a lengthy microphone battle. The Outsidaz are affiliated with the Refugee Camp, and made their first commercial appearance as guest artists on the song "Cowboys" off the Fugees multi-platinum second LP The Score. They were also affiliated with Detroit-based rap collective D12, collaborating with them on different projects. D12 member Eminem shouts out the Outsidaz at the end of the song "Just Don't Give a Fuck", in the beginning of "Cum On Everybody", and in the song "As the World Turns", all of which were recorded on his major-label solo debut The Slim Shady LP. He also acknowledges them in a track titled "Till Hell Freezes Over" which was intended to be on the album. A rift developed between Eminem and Tha Outsidaz when Young Zee and Pace Won each recorded verses alongside Bizarre for the 'Amityville' track on Eminem's major label sophomore, The Marshall Mathers LP. Dr. Dre complained that Eminem had too many guests on the album, so Pace Won and Young Zee's verses were removed from the track. In a 2015 interview, Pace Won indicated that the original version of the track was probably permanently erased, and as yet, this would appear to be the case, as it has not yet emerged from the vaults.[4] Eminem's Shady Records label released Shady XV, a compilation album which featured a track titled, "Fine Line" by Eminem. On the song, he spits a verse showing his appreciation for the group (specifically Pacewon and Young Zee). Despite his controversy, Em was widely considered the voice of our generation, producing ten solo albums, one EP, a greatest hits CD, selling over 100 million albums worldwide, starring in a blockbuster film, and even winning an Oscar for his track Lose Yourself. Can you really name a more famous song from the last twenty years? I'll wait. The icon has also overcome several personal obstacles during his professional career including a messy on-again/off-again relationship with his wife Kimberly Scott, an addiction to prescription meds that nearly claimed his life, and the passing of his best friend and D12 bandmate Proof. Unfortunately, the problems do not begin here. They actually go way back. And in order to celebrate a storied career as arguably the most famous artist of the 21st century, it's important to understand his roots.

Tune into our interview with viral online rapper, Jordan Royale. We sat down with him and talked about many important topics in music. From a young age, music has been a central part of Jordan Royale's life. He began playing the violin at age five and was in a couple joke bands in high school. It was at this point when Royale knew he wanted to devote the rest of his life to creating music. When it comes to inspiration, Royale looks up to all kinds of artists with various genre backgrounds. His influences ranges from the late David Bowie and Chromatics, artists with a pop and synth pop sound. Royale claims he can also get down to metal core and hardcore by listening to artists such as We Came as Romans and August Burns Red. The famous alternative rock band Nine Inch Nails has been a huge inspiration for Royale as he grew his sound. In terms of Hip-hop influences, Royale looks up to artists such as Eminem, D12, Kayne West, and 50 Cent. BANG! @southernvangard #radio presents the MOE DIRDEE interview session! We head to Las Vegas this week to chat with Detroit native Moe Dirdee, who just dropped “MOE DERT,” which is entirely produced by LA producer DERT BEATS, and is the latest release on HOUSE SHOES’ STREET CORNER MUSIC. We dig in with Moe why his move from the D to Vegas was the unintended genesis of the project, how a $20 bus ride from Vegas to LA to record with Dert set the tone of the album and why the upcoming visual accompaniments will be a critical companion in driving home the lyrical density of the LP. We crack open the history books for Moe to provide some insight on his background coming up in Detroit’s hip-hop scene, why MARV WON & QUEST MCCODY changed his life, and how his song-first based approach in the battle scene gave him an advantage. Moe also breaks down the massive impact his friend and mentor PROOF of D12 made on his life as well as many others, and what a typical day at Proof’s IRON FIST RECORDS was like. You bet your life there’s a ton more inside Vangardians, so cop that “Moe Dert” now (vinyl heads get it quick, there’s only 250 of ‘em) and press play ‘cause you know it’s ALWAYS that #SmithsonianGrade #TwiceAWeek #WeAreTheGard // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on #applepodcasts #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud #youtube // #hiphop #rap #undergroundhiphop #boombap #DJ #mix #interview #podcast #ATL #WORLDWIDE #RIPCOMBATJACK Recorded live June 15, 2020 @ Dirty Blanket Studios, Marietta, GA southernvangard.com @southernvangard on #applepodcasts #soundcloud #youtube #spotifypodcast #googlepodcasts #stitcherradio #mixcloud #SmithsonianGrade #TwiceAWeek #WeAreTheGard twitter/IG: @southernvangard @jondoeatl @cappuccinomeeks
Mr.Porter grew up in a musical family, his grandfather was in “The Original 5 Blind Boys of Alabama” and his father who started off as their driver and Popular gospel singer himself, he spent much of his childhood on the road and surrounded by music. His life changed when at the age of 15 he was shot in his hometown of Detriot and wasn’t able to pursue sports the way he was before. He later turned to producing and after only 3 months he linked up with Eminem and helped produce his first album, Infinite. Mr.Porter shares how later he started composing for films and executive producing albums like “Hell: The Sequel”. Even as he grew as an artist he still faced hardships and obstacles he had to overcome. There was a dark time for him after Proof of D12 died and where Denaun was diagnosed with a heart condition. He started focusing on his physical and mental health with things like therapy, meditation and exercise which he talks about in-depth, he’s currently working on a pamphlet for producers around health in the studio. He also dives into the business side of things, detailing his leaving EMI and what he’s seeing artists should be doing in today’s world of streaming and how to command their worth. Even touching on the legendary queen’s Jill Scott and Erykah Badu Instagram Live. His focus now is to stay centered mentally, physically and spiritually and help others achieve their dreams in the music world, as well as his new solo project he describes as “a hip-hop version of ‘What’s Going On’”. Royce 5'9 returns to Day 1 Radio just days before his new album "The Allegory" is set to drop on February 21st. In this wide-ranging talk, Royce opens up about how this album stands out from his previous efforts and how stepping up as a producer impacted the sound and process. He also talks about some of the intentions behind his lyrics on the album and how he feels about the current state of rap coming out of his hometown, Detroit. 2:00 - "Book Of Ryan is your diary...The Allegory is your manifesto.": Branden opens with a statement about Royce's upcoming album, and Royce agrees. He gets into why every artist should have at least one personal album. He reveals that the album was not planned, but a product of being in the studio all the time. He says that this is the first project "happened to him." 8:50 - Producing and learning: Royce stepped more into the producer role for The Allegory and gets into how learning on the fly impacted his writing. He also breaks down the difference between being technical and masterful. He's open to producing for other artists, but doubts that he has beats just laying around for other rappers and would rather produce in the studio with them. 12:30 - Surprise!: Royce says that his producer friends like DJ Premier and Mr. Porter weren't surprised that he was making beats, but were shocked at how fast he progressed. Another surprise is that there are two songs he recorded with Dilla floating around. 14:30 - "Upside Down": Royce breaks down the intricate lyrics on "Upside Down" featuring Benny the Butcher. Do yourself a favor and listen to the song to get what he's talking about. He also talks about how he toes the line of being confident and humble. 26:00 - Surviving the game: Royce speaks about how he has continued to improve as an MC after decades in the game. He credits some of it to knowledge of self, things he's learned in therapy and some of it to him not getting fulfillment in riding waves. 29:45 - Detroit Rap: Royce thinks rap in Detroit is currently in a "great place." He knows that his generation (Eminem, Slum Village, Trick Trick, D12) made it possible for rappers like Danny Brown, Tee Grizzly and others to succeed. He does hope that they all continue to co-exist and not allow people to separate and label their diversity in a negative way. 39:44 - Touring: Royce says he wants to tour for The Allegory, especially since he did not get to tour for The Book of Ryan and the last Pryhme album. 44:15 - Boxing: Royce is a boxing enthusiast and he and Branden go back and forth about Fury vs. Wilder 2 and if we will ever see a Joshua vs. Wilder fight. 47:45: - Hip Hop Trivia: Does Royce know his Hip-Hop history? Listen and find out.
