Happy Resurrection Day! I wasn't going to post twice in one week, but you know sometimes I'm asked to do things I don't want to do. I watched 10 people get baptized at one singular service today. I sobbed like baby. I can’t explain how beautiful it is to witness that after you’ve gone through that spiritual experience as well. I don’t think I will ever be able to watch a baptism and not cry. I know, I’m so emotional. Bite me. In this episode, I talk about how God is still working in my life, but I know it's because I'm looking for Him. Every single day. If you think that you can't sin and be saved, you're wrong. I'm still broken, and I still will sin unfortunately. I hate it and I try not to, but that’s why we’re human and that’s literally why Jesus died for us. A pastor reminded me earlier this week that all you need to do is confess with your tongue and believe. That's it! So where ever you are in your journey, keep going. I'm rooting for you, and God's got you! You've learned your lesson in dating....so you'll never again will you date someone who _______?
To all the daddy's girls in the house, this is for you!!! The conversation on this episode stems from thoughts down memory lane and evaluating the relationship girls have with their dads when they are little and how it impacts us both positively and/or negatively. It also mirrors the relationship in the latter stages of our lives as women. Does it wax stronger or grow sour? Can anything come between a father's love and her daughter? Are there better ways this relationship can be improved? This one is a banger with 4 amazing guests; Abimbola, Oleg, Ifunenya, and Kele share their experiences and opinions on the show. I'll love to hear from you. Send me a DM on Instagram @thegirlunplugged or Email ritachukwuikegmail.com. Support this podcast: https://useshukran.com/cr/thegirlunplugged

This one's for the ladies today! Join me as I speak with Victoria Davis Gilbert, author of Daddy's Girls: A 14-Day Guide to a More Intimate Relationship with God Your Father. About the Book: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=victoria+davis+gilbert&ref=nb_sb_noss Victoria Gilbert’s passion is to share the joy of the Lord everywhere she goes. She knows all too well about loss and how that loss can make joy seem so distant. Experiencing the loss of her father at age 9 was extremely difficult and as a result, Victoria put a wall around her heart. She didn’t want to feel that pain again, and in turn blocked love from entering in her heart. In this devotional, you will get a glimpse into Victoria’s life as she shares some of her darkest moments that bring her to the feet of Jesus. She shares specific scriptures that helped her remove the wall around her heart and allow the love of our Father God to completely fill all of her. This devotion serves a journal as well. As you read each entry, write down your thoughts as you hear from God. Daddy’s Girls is just the tool needed to remind you how important you are to God, your Father. "I thought you only kill for survival- Aggression, plotting, revenge. You're more human than I realized.” — Helen to Donna [source: siren.wikia.com]Helen Hawkinsis a main character on Freeform's series, Siren. She is portrayed by Rena Owen.Helen is an antique shop owner and the local folklore expert. Since the resurfacing of mermaids in Bristol Cove, she has formed somewhat of a friendship with Ben Pownall and Maddie Bishop in order to help with Ryn and her sister Donna. She later reveals to Donna that she is a mermaid as well. She was first published at 8 when she won a national children's poetry contest, and throughout her youth, Owen was active in the Maori Culture Club, High School Musical productions, and Community Stage Plays. Despite knowing her talents were in creativity, upon graduating, the Arts were not considered a viable career. At 18, she moved to Auckland to pursue a Nursing Career and 3 years later qualified as a General & Obstetric Nurse (RGN). In 1983, she went on her OE (overseas experience), a common Kiwi pursuit, and landed in London. A first of its' kind; the series was written, acted, directed and produced by Maori. In constant pursuit of learning and honing her craft, she continued to work extensively in theatre; acting, writing, directing, working as a dramaturgy, and was a founding member of Taki Rua Theatre. She wrote and recorded short stories for Radio NZ, wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed stage play, Daddy's Girl whilst playing reoccurring roles in two NZ TV Series, Betty's Bunch, and Shark in the Park. Rena was a rare recipient of a Dame Te Atairangikaahu (the Maori Queen) Literary Award & Scholarship.Rena's first feature film was a supporting role in the Kevin Reynolds/Kevin Costner film, Rapa Nui (1993), followed by the leading role in the cult-classic NZ film, Once Were Warriors. Her electrifying performance garnered her universal rave reviews. David Denby declared, "Owen's performance is classic!" Roger Ebert proclaimed, "You don't often see acting like this in the movies. The ladies reminisce about their fathers
My guest today wanted to find out what kind of woman would make the best U.S. President after he voted for President Obama and realized he was not who he thought he was. What Stanford Erickson discovered was the traits associated with being a Mama's boy or girl or Daddy's boy or girl made a difference in how you approached things. So he went and looked at 8 female world stage leaders including Hillary Rodham Clinton, Angela Merkel, Carly Fiorina, Elizabeth Warren, Eleanor Roosevelt, Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher and Edith Bolling Galt Wilson. When you look at these powerful woman and use the filter of mama's girl or daddy's girl, not from a negative perspective but from a leadership trait, it is interesting to see why they have been successful or not as successful as they could be. Stanford's current book, The Kind of Women who Can Be President of the United States is more a book about leadership and leadership styles than a book about why women are not be elected to the highest office in this country versus others. My eyes opened when I read his book, a follow up to Mama's Boy Presidents Why Do We Keep Electing Them? They didn't open because of the title. They opened because of the content. Having spent 30 plus years as a journalist covering the political beat as a bureau chief and more and having interviewed three President's including Nixon and Reagan, Stanford is uniquely qualified to write this book. I love perspective shifting reading that give me new questions to ask. I looked back at myself while reading the book and while interviewing Stanford on the show and I learned a few things about myself. Tweet and let me know what you learn about yourself and those around you. Stanford Erickson is a thirty-five year member of the National Press Club in Washington, DC, and a former member of the Overseas Press Club in New York City. For more than twenty-five years, as a Bureau Chief in Washington, DC, and a reporter and editor in New York City, he covered Presidents, Congress, Administrative and Regulatory Departments and Agencies. He interviewed Presidents and other world leaders and many significant business leaders in the country. As a journalist, he worked for Hearst, McGraw-Hill, Knight-Ridder and The Economist Group. As a journalist he worked in San Francisco, Korea, Chicago, New York, Washington, DC and Philadelphia. He was a speechwriter in Washington, DC, and then headed up public relations worldwide for the largest U. S. ship company, traveling through North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He then returned to his first love journalism, working for Knight-Ridder and The Economist Group and then, with investors, he bought and turned around Farm Journal, the largest media company serving farmers in the United States. At one point in his career, he was generally considered one of the most knowledgeable journalists in the United States reporting on world trade and international economics. In 2012, he published a non-fiction book, How To Be Wiser Than Solomon, and later in October 2012 published another non-fiction book, Mama’s Boy Presidents: Why Do We Keep Electing Them? In 2016, Erickson published the non-fiction book The Kind of Women Who Can Be President of the United States. Both books about the U. S. presidency involve biographies of past presidents and explains what it takes to be a successful president in the 21st century. www.stanforderickson.com
