This Day in Legal History: Salem Witch Trial ExecutionsOn August 19, 1692, five individuals—four men and one woman—were executed for witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts, during the height of the Salem Witch Trials. This dark period in American colonial history saw widespread hysteria and a fervent belief in the supernatural, leading to accusations against more than 200 people. The five executed on this day were Reverend George Burroughs, John Proctor, John Willard, George Jacobs Sr., and Martha Carrier. Despite their protests of innocence, they were condemned by the courts based on dubious evidence, including spectral evidence, which allowed testimonies of visions and dreams to be admissible. Reverend Burroughs, who had previously served as a minister in Salem, recited the Lord's Prayer perfectly before his execution—an act thought impossible for a witch—yet he was still hanged. The executions marked a turning point in the trials, as public opinion began to shift, questioning the legitimacy of the proceedings. The tragic events of this day highlight the dangers of mass hysteria and the miscarriage of justice when reason is overshadowed by fear.Former U.S. Representative George Santos, expelled from Congress in December 2023, is expected to plead guilty to multiple criminal corruption charges on August 19, 2024, according to sources. Santos, a Republican, faces federal charges for misusing campaign funds for personal expenses, fraudulently charging donors' credit cards, and receiving unemployment benefits while employed. These actions led to his removal from office after just 11 months, during which he was widely discredited for fabricating parts of his past. A House Ethics Committee investigation revealed Santos spent campaign funds on luxury items and services, further fueling the scandal. Democrat Tom Suozzi won the seat in a special election.Expelled former Rep. Santos to plead guilty to corruption charges, source says | ReutersOn August 17, 2024, the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, announced it would close its operations in Brazil immediately due to what it described as "censorship orders" by Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes. X, owned by Elon Musk, claims that Moraes threatened to arrest one of the company's legal representatives if X did not comply with orders to remove certain content. The platform shared a document, allegedly signed by Moraes, outlining fines and arrest threats against their representative. In response, X decided to shut down its operations in Brazil to protect its staff. Despite the closure, the service remains accessible to Brazilian users. The conflict stems from earlier legal disputes, where Moraes ordered X to block accounts associated with spreading misinformation and hate speech during former President Jair Bolsonaro's government. Musk has publicly criticized Moraes, calling his actions unconstitutional.X says it is closing operations in Brazil due to judge's content orders | ReutersSonder Holdings Inc., an alternative-lodging company, has struck a series of deals to raise capital and integrate its brand into Marriott International Inc.'s system to improve its financial stability. This week, yet another prominent figure from the Republican party has decided to step down earlier than expected from his position in the House, a decision that could potentially impact the thin GOP majority that currently exists in the lower chamber. Representative Ken Buck of Colorado, who previously declared his intention not to pursue re-election this year, made no specific mention of the reasoning behind his decision to leave his post prior to the end of his ongoing term, set to conclude in January 2025. In a heartfelt statement, Buck expressed: 'I've had the privilege of fulfilling my duty to the citizens of Colorado's 4th District in Congress for nearly a decade. Their unwavering support and motivation over these years have been humbling.' He continued, 'I wish to declare that my service in Congress will conclude by the close of the following week. I eagerly anticipate remaining engaged in our nation's political discourse, along with embracing more family time and opportunities to immerse myself in Colorado's cultural environment.' Buck did, however, provide further clarity when speaking to the press, referring to the ongoing impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden, which is heavily shaped around allegations of corruption. He lamented the state of affairs, saying, 'We have sensationalized impeachment, turning it into a buzzword fit for the social media era, rather than respecting it as the solemn constitutional instrument it is. This place is not as I remember, and I've concluded that it's time to shift my focus elsewhere.' Following Buck's unexpected announcement, the prediction of a special election to appoint a successor to serve out the remaining tenure of his term has slowly begun stirring excitement, although there's an absence of official declarations so far. Representative Lauren Boebert of Colorado, who currently represents the state's 3rd Congressional District, is believed to be amongst those jockeying for a place in the contest to secure the 4th Congressional District's seat for the term beginning next year. Buck's decision to leave office means that the Republicans will now have 218 members whilst the Democrats are at 213. The ability of the GOP to lead is still precariously hinged on the fact that they can only afford to lose two votes on issues that strictly follow party-lines, given full member attendance. Speaker Mike Johnson expressed his surprise at Buck's decision, hinting towards an upcoming conversation with him. The 435-member chamber has three vacant seats at the moment, thanks to a reshuffle that saw the vacancy left by the expulsion of Representative George Santos filled by Democrat Tom Suozzi through a special election last month. After losing his position as the Speaker in October, Representative Kevin McCarthy from California chose to step away from Congress at the year's end. As a result of McCarthy's exit, California has scheduled a primary for March 19 and, if no candidate manages to garner at least 50% of the votes, a general election will take place on May 21. This will determine who will serve out the remainder of McCarthy's term. Vince Fong, a top contender who has the backing of McCarthy, managed to secure a lead spot in the top-two primary competition for the upcoming term, earning his place on the November ballot. At the beginning of this week, additional progress inside the House was blurry at best, with no clear direction on who else would be moving forward. Another significant exit comes from Ohio Representative Bill Johnson, who in January resigned from his position as a legislator to assume the role of president at Youngstown State University. With Johnson's departure, Ohio is proceeding with a special election primary for the now-vacant seat on March 19, followed by a general election scheduled for June 11. From the Democratic side, there was another significant shift when the Buffalo-area Representative Brian Higgins relinquished his position in Congress in February to be appointed as president and Chief Executive Officer of Shea's Performing Arts Center. The date for the special election to secure Higgins' spot for the remaining term length has been scheduled for April 30. The unexpected exit from Representative Buck has added to the ongoing dynamism of the current political landscape. The people of Colorado, and indeed the nation, wait to see what will transpire in the forthcoming months. These developments, significant as they are, contribute to the dynamic narrative of American politics. It exemplifies how the leadership's landscape can be reshaped overnight with unforeseen departures and new entrants. However, every closure brings the promise of a new beginning, signaling that the stage is set for an exciting era of politics. While the uncertainties continue to hover around the future political scenario, it is certain that the American political discourse remains vibrant and energetic. Additionally, lawmakers' departures present new opportunities for forward-thinking candidates to step up and provide fresh perspectives that align with their constituents' values. The departure of established figures like Buck and others not only heralds the end of an era but also sets into motion the beginnings of the next. And within these changes, the hope persists that the successors will uphold the legacy of their predecessors while navigating the country forward, embodying the essence of American resilience. The reshuffling of seats and the anticipation of fresh faces in Congress can be viewed as a sign of the pulsating political dynamics currently at play. With every exit comes a potential pathway for new ideas, fresh perspectives, and transformative leadership that could shape the future political landscape. While some may view these changes with trepidation, others will see them as a thrilling political evolution. As we witness the ebb and flow in the political arena, let's remind ourselves that change, after all, is the only constant. And as one part of our political history ends with these departures, an exciting chapter starts afresh. The focus now shifts to the promising successors, their actions, and the ensuing impacts on the future governance of this great nation. FOX News Radio's political analyst Josh Kraushaar joins to break down whether or not this special election could be an accurate predictor of what's to come in November and why Suozzi's victory may serve as a lesson for the White House's 2024 playbook. It's Thursday, February 15th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Hindu group to Christian schools: Remove religious items in 15 days A Hindu group in northeastern India recently gave Christian schools 15 days to remove religious items from their buildings. Satya Ranjan Borah is the president of the group called Kutumba Surakshya Parishad. She said, “Christian Missionaries are converting schools and educational institutes into religious institutes. We will not allow it.” The group is also calling for the removal of churches on school grounds. Christians have been involved in education in India's state of Assam for decades. They have faced increasing threats in recent years. India is ranked 11th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. More young Finnish men believe in God and attend church Evangelical Focus reports membership in religious organizations is declining in Europe and North America. Hanna Salomäki is the director of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland's Church Institute for Research and Advanced Training. She said that national churches in Nordic countries are following the trend of declining membership. However, she noted Finland is seeing an exception among young men aged 15 to 29. In 2019, 12% of young men in Finland attended church monthly, up from 5% in 2011. The attendance rate for young women remains low, near 3%. Over the same time period, weekly prayer among young men grew from 16% to 26%, and belief in God grew from 19% to 43%. Psalm 119:9 asks, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your Word.” Democrats flipped Santos seat in special election Here in the United States, Democrats flipped the battleground Long Island, New York seat last held by ousted Rep. George Santos, narrowing the already razor-thin Republican majority in the House, reports Politico.com. Democrat Tom Suozzi won back his former seat in New York's 3rd Congressional District, defeating lesser-known Republican rival Mazi Melesa Pilip. The vote was 53.9% to 46.1%. SUOZZI: “Despite all the attacks, despite all the lies about Tom Suozzi and the Squad (laughter), about Tom Suozzi being the Godfather of the migrant crisis, about Sanctuary Suozzi (boos), despite the dirty tricks, despite the vaunted Nassau County Republican machine (boos), we won!” (cheers) Santos was expelled from Congress amid being criminally indicted on fraud charges. 1 dead, 22 injured at Kansas City Chiefs victory parade Police said one person died and 22 people suffered gunshot wounds in a shooting Wednesday afternoon just after the Kansas City Chiefs parade and rally ended at Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri, reports KCTV. Children's Mercy Hospital confirmed it was treating 12 patients, 11 of whom were children. The hospital stated that nine of those patients have gunshot wounds. Police Chief Stacy Graves spoke to the press. GRAVES: “At the conclusion of the chiefs rally today, there were shots fired on the west side of Union Station. Immediately, officers responded to the area, took two people into custody and also immediately rendered life sustaining aid to those victims. “I'm angry at what happened today. The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment. We had over 800 law enforcement officers, Kansas City and other agencies, at the location to keep everyone safe. Because of bad actors, which were very few, this tragedy, occurred even in the presence of uniformed law enforcement officers.” Brave Kansas City Chiefs fans tackled a suspected gunman as he attempted to flee cops after a shooting at the Super Bowl parade. Amid the terror, a heroic group of men were seen taking down one of the suspected perpetrators. They hauled the alleged gunman to the ground and then shouted, “We got the gun.” The men held down the suspect until cops arrived to detain him, reports The Daily Mail. The identities of the three gunmen have not yet been confirmed and no motive has been given for the attack. Only 47% of Americans are really happy A recent poll from Gallup found only 47% of U.S. adults say they are very satisfied with their personal lives. It's the lowest since 2011. Only a few demographic subgroups had majorities saying they are very satisfied with life. Those included married adults and people who attend religious services weekly. 1 Timothy 6:6 says, “Godliness with contentment is great gain.” Serious threats against U.S. federal judges double U.S. federal judges now face more than double the number of threats they did three years ago. Reuters reviewed data from the U.S. Marshals Service. The agency is responsible for protecting 2,700 judges and over 30,000 federal personnel. Amidst sharp political tensions, the agency investigated 457 serious threats during the fiscal year 2023, up from 224 in 2021. 8 to 12-year-olds on track to abandon Christian beliefs Dr. George Barna at the Arizona Christian University released a new report on the spiritual beliefs of children in America. The report notes, “'The foundational beliefs held by 8- to 12-year-olds put them on track to abandon biblical Christianity in record numbers.” Today's children reject five beliefs central to the Christian faith. Only a minority of them draw moral guidance from the Bible, believe in absolute moral truth, embrace faith in Jesus Christ as the means of salvation, identify serving God as their chief purpose in life, and consider success to be consistent obedience to God. 40 Days for Life kickoff And finally, the 40 Days for Life Campaign kicked off in over 650 cities around the world yesterday. Pro-life activists plan to pray outside of abortion mills for the end of the killing of unborn babies. One location won't be needing prayer warriors outside of it this year. The abortion mill in Fredericton, New Brunswick in Canada is going out of business. 40 Days for Life noted, “Pro-lifers brought a 40 Days for Life campaign to town last year, and the facility's financial problems became too much to bear. Local 40 Days for Life participants report this is the first Canadian abortion facility to close in response to pro-life efforts in decades.” James 5:16 says, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, February 15th in the year of our Lord 2024. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (02/14/2024): 3:05pm- On Tuesday, a special election was held in New York's 3rd District to fill former U.S. Representative George Santos' vacant Congressional seat. Democrat Tom Suozzi defeated Republican candidate Mazi Pilip 54% to 46%. Nate Cohn of The New York Times writes: “Millions were spent on campaign advertisements, with Democrats outspending Republicans by a wide margin. And unlike with most special elections, Democrats nominated a fairly well-known candidate. Mr. Suozzi, who retired ahead of the 2022 election, had a strong electoral track record, having beaten Mr. Santos here by more than 12 points in 2020… There was even a big snowstorm on Tuesday that may have dampened Republican Election Day turnout (Democrats voted more by mail).” Could this special election be indicative of what will happen during the 2024 presidential election? Cohn continues: “Last week, a Siena College poll…found Mr. Biden running a full nine percentage points behind Mr. Suozzi and trailing Donald J. Trump in the district.” Last year, Santos became the sixth congressman in U.S. history to be expelled from the House of Representatives. The House voted 311 to 114 in favor of removing him following numerous allegations of lying about his background and a 23-count indictment that includes allegations he “repeatedly, without authorization” charged donor credit cards—depositing funds into his own bank account. Though, he has not yet been found guilty of any crimes. The Republican majority in the House will shrink—219 to 213 with 3 vacancies. You can read Cohn's article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/14/upshot/special-election-democrats-new-york.html 3:20pm- Tracey Tully and Benjamin Weiser of The New York Times write: “A luxury Mercedes-Benz, gold bars, exercise equipment and stacks of cash featured prominently in a federal indictment that charged Senator Robert Menendez with accepting a sordid array of bribes. Now, prosecutors say a diamond engagement ring for the senator's future wife, Nadine Menendez, was also part of the elaborate bribery scheme — and a source of infighting between co-defendants who are expected to stand trial together in May. Wael Hana, a longtime friend of Ms. Menendez's who is also charged in the alleged conspiracy, attempted to cheat her out of the full value of the ring, according to court documents filed late Monday by prosecutors in Manhattan.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/13/nyregion/menendez-bribes-ring.html 3:35pm- Karoun Demirjian of The New York Times writes: “The Senate passed a long-awaited foreign aid package for Ukraine and Israel early Tuesday morning, delivering a bipartisan endorsement of the legislation after months of negotiations, dire battlefield warnings and political mudslinging. But the measure faced a buzz saw of opposition in the House, where Republican resistance threatened to kill it. The 70-to-29 vote reflected a critical mass of support in Congress for the $95 billion emergency aid legislation and for continuing to arm Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. The measure would provide an additional $60.1 billion for Kyiv—which would bring the total U.S. investment in the war effort to more than $170 billion—as well as $14.1 billion for Israel's war against Hamas and almost $10 billion for humanitarian aid for civilians in conflict zones, including Palestinians in Gaza.” But will Speaker of the House Mike Johnson hold a vote on the bill in the Republican-controlled House? Demirkian explains: “Mr. Johnson controls the floor and right-wing lawmakers have shown a willingness to block legislation they oppose from even coming up for a vote. Still, if proponents can muster enough support from Democrats and mainstream and national security-minded Republicans willing to buck [Donald] Trump and the far right, they could steer around the opposition through a maneuver known as a discharge petition. That allows lawmakers to force legislation to the floor if they can gather the signatures of a majority of the House—218 members—calling for the action.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/12/us/politics/senate-ukraine-aid.html 3:40pm- Lee Habeeb— Newsweek Columnist & Vice President of Content at Salem Media Group—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest article, “The Forgotten Man: A 1883 Speech Might Explain the Rise of Trump.” You can read the full article here: https://www.newsweek.com/forgotten-man-1883-speech-might-explain-rise-trump-1867929 4:05pm- During a White House press briefing on Wednesday, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan answered questions about Congressional renewal of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). When asked if a warrant should be necessary for all collected data, Sullivan explained, “we do not believe that that serves the national security interests of the U.S.” 4:10pm- Mairead Elordi of The Daily Wire writes: “A trans-identifying firefighter is suing the city of Philadelphia for allegedly refusing insurance coverage for his facial feminization surgery. The firefighter, a 55-year-old man who has been with the Philadelphia fire department for 28 years, claims that the city, as well as his union, Firefighters & Paramedics Local 22, and Independence Blue Cross insurance all discriminated against him on the basis of his gender identity.” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/trans-identifying-firefighter-suing-philadelphia-over-facial-feminization-surgery-coverage 4:20pm- Former NCAA leader Rachel Dolezal, who was fired from the organization after it was revealed she received the position after pretending to be black, now has an OnlyFans account. 4:30pm- Casey Mattox—Vice President of Legal & Judicial Strategy at Americans for Prosperity—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest article for The New York Post, “Why Our Politicians Can't Stop Passing Absurd Laws.” Some of the nation's most bizarre laws include an Arizona law which makes it illegal for donkeys to sleep in bathtubs, a ban on silly-string in Alabama, and a Connecticut regulation on the bounciness of pickles. According to reports, two armed people have been detained by police. 5:05pm- According to a new report from Michael Shellenberger, Matt Taibbi, and Alex Gutentag, “the United States Intelligence Community (IC), including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), illegally mobilized foreign intelligence agencies to target [then-Republican presidential candidate Donald] Trump advisors long before the summer of 2016.” You can read more here: https://public.substack.com/p/cia-had-foreign-allies-spy-on-trump 5:20pm- On Tuesday, Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, David Sacks, and Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), J.D. Vance (R-OH), and Ron Johnson (R-WI) participated in a Twitter Spaces conversation on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and the Senate-passed foreign aid bill that would provide Ukraine with an additional $60.1 billion in financial assistance. During the conversation, Musk argued: "This spending does not help Ukraine. Prolonging the war and sacrificing the…youth, having these boys die for nothing is wrong and needs to stop." Senator Johnson echoed a similar sentiment noting, “we all have to understand that Vladimir Putin will not lose this war” as losing would result in him being removed as Russian President. 5:40pm- While appearing on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, sports commentator Bob Costas addressed the growing trend of biological males competing against female athletes—explaining, “we can't throw common sense out the window.”

Wael Hana, a longtime friend of Ms. Menendez's who is also charged in the alleged conspiracy, attempted to cheat her out of the full value of the ring, according to court documents filed late Monday by prosecutors in Manhattan.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/13/nyregion/menendez-bribes-ring.html Karoun Demirjian of The New York Times writes: “The Senate passed a long-awaited foreign aid package for Ukraine and Israel early Tuesday morning, delivering a bipartisan endorsement of the legislation after months of negotiations, dire battlefield warnings and political mudslinging. That allows lawmakers to force legislation to the floor if they can gather the signatures of a majority of the House—218 members—calling for the action.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/12/us/politics/senate-ukraine-aid.html Lee Habeeb— Newsweek Columnist & Vice President of Content at Salem Media Group—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest article, “The Forgotten Man: A 1883 Speech Might Explain the Rise of Trump.” You can read the full article here: https://www.newsweek.com/forgotten-man-1883-speech-might-explain-rise-trump-1867929

At least one person was killed and as many as fifteen people were injured when a shooting broke out at the end of the Super Bowl parade in Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday. Police have arrested two armed suspects and are investigating the shooting. In a special election, Democrat Tom Suozzi won the New York Congressional seat left vacant by former Rep. George Santos. This further shrank Republicans' already razor-thin majority in the House, meaning Republicans can only afford to lose two votes on any bills moving forward. House Intelligence Committee chairman Mike Turner has warned of a “serious national security threat” and asked President Joe Biden to declassify the information. The details of the threat remain vague, but House Speaker Mike Johnson said there's no cause for alarm. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV
Democrat Tom Suozzi defeated Republican Mazi Pilip in a New York special congressional election on Feb. 13, flipping the seat that used to belong to Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.). Suozzi's victory further narrows the GOP's razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives. House Speaker Mike Johnson addressed the Ukraine–Israel aid package at a press conference on Wednesday. Mr. Johnson said more has to be done to secure the border, and that the “House will not be jammed or forced into passing a foreign aid bill that was opposed by most Republican senators.” That's after President Joe Biden called on Johnson on Tuesday to take up the bill, saying opposing it would be “playing into Putin's hands.” After failing in an earlier vote, House Republicans successfully impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday. He's the first cabinet official to be impeached in nearly 150 years. Mayorkas was impeached on two counts relating to his handling of the border crisis by a vote of 214–213, with all but three Republicans voting in favor and all Democrats opposing the action. ⭕️Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV

On today's episode of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's "Politically Georgia" podcast, hosts Bill Nigut and Tia Mitchell welcome the dynamic duo of Brian Robinson and Tharon Johnson. First up, Georgia U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene pushed for months to have U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas impeached. Now, she's succeeded with her goal. Georgia's delegation was split along party lines with all Republicans in favor and all Democrats opposed. The final vote was 214-213. Georgia Republicans in the U.S. House blame Mayorkas for a flood of immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. The matter now moves to the Senate, where Democrats hold control of the chamber. So how far can this matter go? Meanwhile, Gov. Brian Kemp pledged to send a small contingent of National Guard troops to the Texas border. Then, Democrats won a key special congressional election last night in New York. Democrat Tom Suozzi won the seat that had been held by George Santos, making the Republican majority in the House even more fragile. And, the State Election Board voted against ending no-excuses absentee voting. LINKS TO TODAY'S TOPICS Georgia Republicans celebrate Mayorkas impeachment, urge Senate to act Georgia GOP Gov. It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma speak with Luke Goldstein, writing fellow at The American Prospect, to discuss his reporting on the special election being held today in New York's 3rd Congressional District. First, Sam and Emma run through updates into the Senate's military aid deal, the House GOP's Mayorkas Impeachment 2.0, flight attendant labor action, Joe Biden's limp warnings to Israel, inflation, and Kari Lake's Senate candidacy, before diving into the response to the Senate's Foreign Aid bill for Ukraine and Israel. Luke Goldstein then joins, diving right into his assessments of NY-3's special election candidates, walking through Democrat Tom Suozzi's relationship to Israel-aligned PACs, as well as his relationship to the NY Democratic establishment, and the GOP's Mazi Pilip's role as an ex-IDF member with a shady financial past, before focusing in the primary fighting grounds of support for Israel and general conservatism. Stepping back, Goldstein walks through Suozzi's connections to Jay Jacobs, Chair of the NYS Democratic Committee and head of the NY Dems' right-wing shift that lost the Democrats the House in 2022, before looking at both Suozzi and Pilip's desire to separate themselves from their national party leadership, and wrapping up with an assessment of their chances. Sam and Emma also dive into the King of Jordan's recent appearance alongside Biden, Biden's insistence on looking weak to everyone, whether it be over immigration or Israel, and conclude the free half by looking at the continuing action in Israel to block aid to Gaza. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma discuss Jon Stewart catching flack from the libs over stating Biden's age, watch Tucker get repeatedly cucked by Putin, and chat with Lefty Paul Ryan about talking to your lib friends.
