How does a 20 year old with an AR-15 able to shoot President Trump? #Trump #NassauPoliceCommissionerPatrickRyder #secretservice The recent shooting of former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally has raised serious questions about the security failures that enabled the attack. While there was significant Secret Service presence as well as local law enforcement on the scene, a gunman was able to get onto the roof of a building about 150 meters away from Trump and fire at both him and members of the crowd. That development has prompted concerns about missteps made by the Secret Service and gaps in the coverage provided for the former president at the event. “We are speaking of a failure,” Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said in remarks about the attack. Scrutiny of what went wrong has spurred President Joe Biden to order an independent review of the issue. House Speaker Mike Johnson has called for one in the lower chamber as well. “The Secret Service is working with all involved Federal, state and local agencies to understand what happened, how it happened, and how we can prevent an incident like this from ever taking place again,” Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said in a statement regarding the shooting, noting that the agency would be fully cooperative with these investigations. There's still a lot we don't know as these reviews get underway, but early reports reveal potential lapses in coordination among federal and regional law enforcement, and a limited security perimeter that could have played a role.

After 25 years at National Public Radio, Senior Editor Uri Berliner resigned Wednesday following backlash from fellow journalists regarding comments he made about NPR's political agenda. Berliner published an essay in The Free Press earlier this month critiquing his former employer's liberal bias, which allegedly increased following the 2016 election. Before his departure, Berliner was suspended from NPR for failing to secure approval to speak with other news outlets. Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and former member of the Board of Directors at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Howard Husock, joins the Rundown to share why people criticize NPR's public funding and why journalists should remain open-minded. A part of the immigration debate came to an end Wednesday after both articles of impeachment against U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas were voted unconstitutional in the Senate. Illegal migrant encounters reached record levels in 2023, and released migrants are scattered throughout the U.S., with many ending up in self-proclaimed “sanctuary cities.” Denver Mayor Mike Johnston has announced the city plans to spend $90 million to help migrants who come to his city for six months. Within days of the Mayor's announcement, two counties sued, challenging the state's sanctuary laws. Douglas County Commissioner George Teal joins the podcast to explain the lawsuit, how Denver has reached “a critical mass point” with their migrant population, and how the issue threatens to spillover and hurt surrounding communities and migrants alike. 100 members of the U.S. Senate were sworn in as jurors for the impeachment trial of Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas on April 17. The articles of impeachment were approved by the House of Representatives on Feb. 13, and officially read in the Senate chamber on Tuesday. Majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he'll allow floor debate on the articles, but called for a dismissal of the charges. President Joe Biden will propose a boost in tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from China, a move viewed by some as a strategic one designed to increase support among blue-collar voters for the 2024 election. The president will ask the United States Trade Representative to consider tripling the existing Section 301 tariff rate on Chinese steel and aluminum as part of a four-year review. He was expected to announce this request during his Wednesday visit to the United Steelworkers headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Jennifer and James Crumbley were both sentenced to 10–15 years in prison on charges of involuntary manslaughter after the prosecution convinced the jury that the Crumbley's gross negligence enabled their son to commit a mass shooting at Oxford High School in 2021. Sentencing the parents of mass shooters is a relatively new concept for the courts. While the sentencing guidelines for this crime are typically seven years, the actual sentence Judge Cheryl Matthews handed down exceeded those guidelines, opting for a harsher-than-recommended punishment. Criminal defense attorney Jonna Spilbor joins the podcast to break down how this case marks a shift in standards for punishing guardians of mass shooters, why she feels that this case should not have been taken to criminal court, and shares her fears that this ruling will be a legal slippery slope. U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas is set to become the first cabinet member facing impeachment in over 100 years. The move has been met with enthusiasm from Senate Republicans. Now, it faces an unlikely path forward, with Senate Majority Leader Schumer reportedly looking at multiple procedural options to avoid or table these articles of impeachment. House Speaker Johnson revealed on Tuesday that they would plan on delivering articles to the Senate next week, showing the GOP is not done fighting for this trial. Senator Roger Marshall (R-K.S.) says not allowing the trial would be “a nuclear option for the Democrats.” He joins the podcast to explain why our border crisis can be traced back to Secretary Mayorkas and why he believes impeachment is necessary. Saturday, February 24th marked two years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains determined to defeat Russia and continues to request aid and resources from the U.S., urging that a lack of support from President Biden could lead to dire consequences for his country. Though the President announced the U.S. would be implementing more than 500 new sanctions against Russia on Friday, no aid can be sent to Ukraine until a foreign aid package can successfully pass through Congress, which has proven to be a challenge. National security expert Rebecca Grant explains the state of the region two years on. Later, Ukraine's Ambassador to the U.S. Oksana Markarova discusses the important U.S.-Ukraine relationship. The House has voted to impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, the first time a member of the President's cabinet has faced an impeachment since the 1870s. Republican lawmakers are preparing to hold a full Senate trial holding the Biden administration responsible for the crisis at the Southern Border. Sources said an 11-year-old was shot inside the home in the unit block of Lewis Avenue. As soon as officers arrived, a person started shooting at them, sources told Action News. Sources said an 11-year-old was shot inside the home in the unit block of Lewis Avenue. As soon as officers arrived, a person started shooting at them, sources told Action News. With 88% of the vote counted Haley trails 63% to 31%. On Thursday, the Nevada Republican Party will hold its presidential caucus which Donald Trump is expected to win—and, presumably, will receive the state's 26 delegates. The Nevada primary will award no delegates. 5:40pm- Daniel Turner—Founder & Executive Director of Power the Future—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Power the Future recently filing a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Biden Administration for failing to make public Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry's paid staff. The Boston Herald reports that Kerry's 45-person staff has collectively received $4.3 million per year in taxpayer-funded salary. Turner explains: "For nearly three years, John Kerry has been jet-setting on the international climate conference circuit while sending taxpayers the bill. Today, we begin the process of teaching John Kerry and Joe Biden that they work for the taxpayers. No one should have to waste resources on litigation, but that is our only option since John Kerry thinks he can keep his office off the books. The American people are on the receiving end of countless green mandates and rules, gas stove bans and skyrocketing utility bills, with no opportunity for consent or input, and many of these decisions are hatched in John Kerry's office. That is why it is our hope that this litigation will finally bring to light the information we deserve to know: the staff names, the office goals and budgets, the outside partnerships that peddle influence on Joe Biden's green agenda." The final vote was 49 to 50. Karoun Demirjian of The New York Times writes: “Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the majority leader, changes his vote to no, which is a strategic procedural move to make sure he can raise the measure again, not a sign that he has suddenly changed his mind about the substance of the bill.” She continues: “Four Republicans voted to advance the foreign aid measure that included border security provisions: Senators James Lankford of Oklahoma, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine and Mitt Romney of Utah. Four Democrats—Senators Alex Padilla of California, Bob Menendez of New Jersey, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Ed Markey of Massachusetts—voted against doing so, as did Senator Bernie Sanders, independent of Vermont.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/02/07/us/congress-ukraine-israel-aid/85a3b581-3ab8-527c-bb12-ee1ee4be6664?smid=url-share 6:20pm- On Tuesday night, Republican leadership in the House of Representatives attempted to impeach Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas but failed. The final vote was 214-216. Four Republicans joined Democrats and voted “nay”— Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, Ken Buck of Colorado, Blake Moore of Utah, and Tom McClintock of California. Though Rep. Moore switched his vote for procedural reasons to help Republicans reintroduce the article of impeachment at a later date. Why did Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) hold the vote if he didn't have the numbers? Rep. Al Green (D-TX) had recently undergone abdominal surgery and rushed to Capitol Hill from his hospital bed—arriving in hospital garb to vote. He was not expected to be in attendance. A review of dozens of published studies into the mechanisms behind neurological diseases has collected strong evidence that people who frequently pick their noses are at a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (02/06/2024): 3:05pm- In a 57-page opinion, a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit unanimously rejected Donald Trump's argument that presidential immunity legally shields him from criminal charges related to his challenging of the 2024 presidential election results. The judges wrote: "We cannot accept former President Trump's claim that a President has unbounded authority to commit crimes that would neutralize the most fundamental check on executive power—the recognition and implementation of election results. Nor can we sanction his apparent contention that the Executive has carte blanche to violate the rights of individual citizens to vote and to have their votes count." Trump has vowed to appeal the decision—which will mean the case will be heard by the full D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals or the U.S. Supreme Court. You can read the full text of the ruling here: https://www.msnbc.com/deadline-white-house/deadline-legal-blog/full-text-trump-immunity-ruling-appeals-court-rcna137482 3:15pm- Joe Barrett of The Wall Street Journal writes: “The mother of a Michigan teen who killed four students at his high school in 2021 was found guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter, the first time a parent of a school shooter has been convicted of homicide in connection with the attack. Jennifer Crumbley, whose son, Ethan, pleaded guilty to four counts of murder in the killings at Oxford High about 40 miles north of Detroit and is serving life in prison, lowered her head slightly but showed little other reaction as the verdict was read in an Oakland County courtroom. The judge set a sentencing date of April 9. Crumbley's husband, James Crumbley, will stand trial for the same charges in a separate trial next month.” You can read the full report here: https://www.wsj.com/us-news/mother-of-michigan-school-shooter-ethan-crumbley-found-guilty-of-manslaughter-ccd8bfff?mod=hp_lead_pos1 3:40pm- Country singer and songwriter Toby Keith has passed away at the age of 62 after a battle with stomach cancer. 3:55pm- Don't wish “The Greater Chris” a happy birthday… 4:05pm- According to reports, the House of Representatives is expected to hold a vote to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday—alleging that he has willfully refused to enforce existing U.S. border security laws. With only a slim majority in the House, it is uncertain whether Republicans will have enough votes to successfully impeach Mayorkas. 4:15pm- On Sunday, leadership in the U.S. Senate released the details of a bipartisan bill designed to reduce illegal border crossings, send $60 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, and $14.1 billion in aid to Israel. The 370-page bill mandates a border shutdown if more than 5,000 migrants unlawfully enter the U.S. in a single day. However, the shutdown cannot exceed 270 days in the bill's first year, 225 in the second year, and 180 days in the third year. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has said the proposed “Senate border bill will not receive a vote in the House.” Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has echoed a similar sentiment—and announced the House will instead vote on a standalone bill later this week that will provide $14.3 billion of aid to Israel. Annie Karni of The New York Times notes: “By Monday evening, [Senate Minority Leader Mitch] McConnell was privately acknowledging that the measure had hemorrhaged support among Republicans, and recommending they move to block it unless Democrats agreed to debate it further and allow them to propose changes.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/05/us/politics/republicans-border-deal.html 4:40pm- In a 57-page opinion, a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. However, it seems increasingly unlikely that the bill has enough support to even pass in the Senate let alone the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. During his address, President Biden blamed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for sabotaging the legislation by denouncing it in the press and on social media. 5:05pm- In a bombshell report from Tim Golden of ProPublica: “Years before Andrés Manuel López Obrador was elected as Mexico's leader in 2018, U.S. drug-enforcement agents uncovered what they believed was substantial evidence that major cocaine traffickers had funneled some $2 million to his first presidential campaign. According to more than a dozen interviews with U.S. and Mexican officials and government documents reviewed by ProPublica, the money was provided to campaign aides in 2006 in return for a promise that a López Obrador administration would facilitate the traffickers' criminal operations.” You can read the full report here: https://www.propublica.org/article/mexico-amlo-lopez-obrador-campaign-drug-cartels 5:20pm- While appearing on Fox News with Bret Baier, Rep. Chip Roy explained exactly why the proposed Senate border bill does not do enough to secure the U.S. Southern border—noting that children won't count towards the 5,000 migrants per day necessary to trigger an immediate border shutdown, which he fears may encourage child trafficking. 5:30pm- Would you pay $17.59 for a Big Mac meal at McDonald's? Karoun Demirjian of The New York Times explains: “The G.O.P. can afford no more than two defections, and two Republicans—Tom McClintock of California, below pictured first, and Ken Buck of Colorado—are already committed nos. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 4: On Wednesday night, Republican presidential candidates Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley participated in a debate on CNN hosted by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. Simultaneously, former President—and Republican primary front runner—Donald Trump held a town hall hosted by Fox News. Despite placing the bulk of his resources in Iowa, Governor Ron DeSantis trails former President Donald Trump by a whopping 36.4%, according to Real Clear Politics polling averages. Assuming he is unable to close that massive gap by Monday, January 15th—the day of the Iowa caucus—he'll likely drop out of the race. So, what would be next for DeSantis? Perhaps an endorsement of Trump and a 2028 presidential run?   On Thursday, Donald Trump's team delivered its closing arguments in a civil fraud trial in which New York Attorney General Letitia James alleges that the former president inflated the value of assets controlled by the Trump Organization in past financial statements. If Trump loses the case, he could face up to $370 million in fines and penalties as well as being permanently prohibited from doing business in the state of New York. Notably, in 2018, while campaigning to become Attorney General, James vowed to “sue” Trump—providing evidence to the defense's argument that this civil suit is entirely political.   Jonah Bromwich, The New York Times reporter who is inside the courtroom for Donald Trump's civil fraud case, writes: “As [Andrew] Amer, the state lawyer, is explaining it, the case for Trump's intent rests on his responsibility for the annual financial statements, Michael Cohen's testimony and some of the gaps in Trump's own testimony. But thus far, there is no real smoking gun that shows that Trump intended to commit fraud—the evidence is mostly circumstantial.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/01/11/nyregion/trump-fraud-trial While speaking in the House of Representatives, Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) insisted that Republicans can't impeach Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for simply following the Biden Administration's relaxed U.S. southern border policies. So, is this an admission that President Joe Biden is solely responsible for border chaos? While speaking with Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC, First Lady Jill Biden said what Republicans are doing to her son, Hunter Biden, is “cruel.”

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (01/11/2024): 3:05pm- On Wednesday night during a campaign appearance in Windham, NH, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced he is suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. A recently released University of New Hampshire/CNN poll indicates Haley is trailing former President Donald Trump by only seven-points in the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary—39% to 32%. Interestingly, Christie is garnering 12% support. Could Christie's absence put Haley over the top in NH? 3:15pm- Just prior to announcing the suspension of his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, Chris Christie was caught on a hot microphone saying that Nikki Haley is going to be “smoked” in the upcoming Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary. Does this make endorsing Haley, as many presumed he would, impossible now? 3:20pm- On Thursday, Donald Trump's team delivered its closing arguments in a civil fraud trial in which New York Attorney General Letitia James alleges that the former president inflated the value of assets controlled by the Trump Organization in past financial statements. If Trump loses the case, he could face up to $370 million in fines and penalties as well as being permanently prohibited from doing business in the state of New York. Bromwich, Ben Protess, and Kate Christobek of The New York Times write: “Donald J. Trump on Thursday delivered abrupt remarks in his own defense on the final day of his civil fraud trial in Manhattan, attacking the New York attorney general, who brought the case, insulting the judge to his face and declaring himself ‘an innocent man.'Mr. Trump's remarks…lasted only minutes, during which he impugned the attorney general, Letitia James, a Democrat, saying she ‘hates Trump and uses Trump to get elected.' He also took aim at the judge, Arthur F. Engoron, remarking, ‘You have your own agenda, I certainly understand that.' He added, as the judge stared stonily at him, ‘You can't listen for more than one minute.' Justice Engoron instructed the former president's lawyer to ‘control your client.' But Mr. Trump continued until the lunch break, at which point he stopped as suddenly as he had started. The episode ushered in a dramatic conclusion to a monthslong trial that has enraged the former president and threatens his family business.” You can read more here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/01/11/nyregion/trump-fraud-trial 4:05pm- Jonah E. Heller Professor of Law at the University of California at Berkeley & a visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit hearing arguments to determine the validity of Donald Trump's presidential immunity defense in his federal election subversion indictment. Professor Yoo explains that if Trump's immunity defense is found invalid, we'll have “presidents always worried about what their successors will do to them…which is what we see in banana republics” and could potentially impact the decision-making process of the nation's Commander in Chief. He points out the prosecution of Trump is particularly disturbing given the fact that the Biden Administration's Department of Justice is targeting a major party candidate actively challenging President Joe Biden in an election. 4:50pm- On Thursday, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) announced that tomorrow he is planning to formally endorse a Republican primary candidate for president. Both rail crossings were closed earlier this week by the US Customs and Border Protection because of President Biden's disastrous open southern border crisis, which led to tens of thousands of migrants, if not more, using freight trains to traverse Mexico north to the US. "The crossing closures are causing exports to be lost," the coalition said in the letter obtained by Bloomberg. The letter, signed by the National Grain and Feed Association and the National Corn Growers Association, said the $28.5 billion market for US agricultural exports could be severely disrupted if a prolonged shutdown of the border is seen. They said a logjam has formed on rail networks in at least six states due to the border crossing shutdowns. "We have also heard of customers in Mexico telling US suppliers they will begin to look to other countries if the US cannot provide a resilient and reliable supply chain," the letter said. The letter warned: "Each day the crossings are closed we estimate almost 1 million bushels of grain exports are potentially lost along with export potential for many other agricultural products." Source: zerohedge.com Car Ownership Costs In America Are Skyrocketing Thinking of buying a vehicle soon? Rising car ownership costs might cause you to think again. Owning a truck or car has become far more expensive than in the past, even as recently as three years ago. In the following graphic, Visual Capitalist's Marcus Lu and Pallavi Rao show, using data from the New York Times, how inflation has impacted various aspects of vehicle ownership, based on the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Used Car Prices Are Still Elevated in 2023 Unsurprisingly, the biggest increases are logged in the price of new and used vehicles, up 22% and 40% respectively. Pandemic supply chain disruptions led to bottlenecks on vehicle deliveries, dramatically pushing up used vehicle prices in turn. However, car ownership costs only continue to increase after the vehicle is acquired. Insurance costs are now nearly 30% higher compared to 2020, along with maintenance and repair. If a part has to be replaced, that's another 20% price increase.
