With today's episode, 30 installments of Sinister Six have come and gone. To celebrate this special occasion, we'll be taking a look back at some of our favorite terrible movies. After that, fate selects 1990's Dick Tracy as the 30th sinister feature. A passion project for director, producer, and star Warren Beatty, Dick Tracy adapts the classic 1930s comic strip of the same name. In a larger-than-life city, organized crime is running rampant. Boss "Big Boy" Caprice is forcibly bringing other mafia families under his control, intending to run the city's underworld like a villainous corporation. Dick Tracy is hot on Big Boy's trail, but finding charges that will stick is no easy feat. Tracy is joined by his girlfriend Tess Trueheart and an unnamed Kid with a penchant for thieving. Complicating things are the sultry singer Breathless Mahoney and a faceless assassin who keeps to the shadows. Will Dick Tracy be able to outfox Big Boy, save the city, and maybe even get the girl? For this next series of Caravan Of Garbage reviews we're taking a look at a five classic comic book propeties that were adapted into underperforming or underwhelming movies. This week we're kicking things off with 1990's Dick Tracey. Directed by and starring Warren Beatty it takes the pulp detective and pits him in a bizarre comic book page universe. Also starring Madonna, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, James Cann and a whole lot more you'd think more people would remember this. But they don't. In this episode, Ariel talks about the power of the idea. “Which idea?” you ask, whichever idea will make a difference in your life. We're going to branch out and get into some creativity development today!"23andMe to Showcase New Research at American Society of Human Genetics Meeting," 10/19/22. www.23andme.com 23andMe white paper on genetic research. https://permalinks.23andme.com/pdf/23_21-PRSMethodology_May2020.pdf Getting into creation mode: First thing--especially when you are brainstorming your way out of a problem--release assigning blame! Blaming shuts down creativity faster than any other behaviour, in my experience. Don't blame me! You can take responsibility--but move on from that. Relax. Do something to get yourself out of stress. That could be getting a massage, exercising, receiving intimate touch, having a great meal, meditating, having a great conversation. Once you are out of a stress response, your mind can come up with alternative solutions. Start imagining there is another way to come up with an answer, a solution, or solve a problem. As ideas start coming to you, write them down, voice or video record them. Don't edit ideas. Accept all of them. Once you get some ideas, sort through them, re-combine or re-organize them until you find something that works. Take a moment to appreciate the process! Then take action with your idea! See what happens! KEY TAKEAWAYS Have you ever had ideas that were life-changing? Maybe it was an incredible change in perception – something you'd been holding on to for decades suddenly released and you could look at everything else differently, which happens in healing sessions a lot. Ideas are really powerful, our perceptions of reality, how we think we can do things, what we think we're capable of experiencing and what we think we can have. One of the things I've seen with people is that when they change the way they think about their lives and the way they think about possibilities that could come to them, the way they think about what they're available to do, what they're capable of doing, then they start having other experiences in their lives. How do you recognise a great idea? I experience a great idea internally is something that lights me up, makes me feel excited and helps me feel open. These are all energetic qualities. I associate those feelings as having that connection with a flow, which is the term I use when the energy is moving in a synchronous fashion, where things effortlessly work out, where you have an idea that flows to another idea. If you're in touch with this kind of sensation, openness or inspiration when you have a great idea, with practice you can recognise it. When you feel that it's one of the ways you know that there's something in that idea which works, flows and it will take you to where you're looking to go. Being creative and idea-generating is an excellent way to problem solve because you're in a solution-creation mindset. Which is expansive and resilient rather than limiting by complaining about problems and shutting them down. How can you get into that creative space? When you're brainstorming your way out of a problem you have to release assigning blame, blaming shuts down creativity faster than any other behaviour. You need to just take responsibility and move on, don't spend your time in negativity, it doesn't open up ideas, operations or solutions. Move on from that by relaxing, you need to get out of a stress response in order for your brain to come up with creative solutions. Record your ideas and save them for later, don't edit them just accept all of them, you can sort through them later. Take a moment to appreciate the process and what you've worked through, but then take action on your idea and see what happens. BEST MOMENTS“Creativity is a superpower and one that can really help us work our way out of getting stuck.”“Going to museums, festivals or concerts is a great way to experience where people have taken their ideas and explored them.”“Ideas that were developed by science fiction writers have been developed into actual technology that are used in daily life, like the Apple Watch which comes from Dick Tracey comic books or flip cell phones from Star Trek.”“Trip planning is a whole experience unto itself and you have to be really creative sometimes to organise timetables and make everything work.”ABOUT THE HOSTAriel is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist, Reiki Master, Empath and Psychic who has been involved in holistic healing since 1988. State of the Arts Episode 56, The New Years Special just published! Broadway composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim was a timeless legend. His famous works include West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, Follies, Merrily We Roll Along and A Funny Thing Happened to Me on the Way to The Forum. Many of his shows were converted into Hollywood silver screen films. Throughout his life, he has received an Academy Award, eight Tony awards, eight Grammy awards, a Pulitzer Prize, a Laurence Olivier Award and a Presidential Medal of Freedom. There were also a few movies he scored the music for such as Dick Tracey and Reds. Sadly, this 91 year old enigma passed away peacefully this year on November 26th. I'm joined on my podcast this week by returning guests Anthony Bonilla and Derek Upright, who are two performing arts connoisseurs and former academic theatrical artists, to honor this beloved musical master. Tune in for a touching, heartfelt New Years Eve episode that toasts one of Broadway's most celebrated wonders! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

But that's only if we're talking about American television. Great Britain was ahead of the United States in this department by almost a decade. Rebecca asks when the "first consensualinterracial kiss" (kiss between dark skinned and light skinned actors) aired on American TV, since the Uhura/Kirk kiss was technically coerced by way of alien mind control in this particular episode. That's a harder question to answer. With these qualifiers, I couldn't find documentation of the "second interracial kiss" or the "first consensual interracial kiss." (If anyone out there has more on this, I'd be very interested to know the answer). Wikipedia has a fascinating entry on televised interracial kisses, documenting earlier examples (than the Uhura/Kirk kiss) of kisses between Asian and white actors and Hispanic and white actors (all light skinned actors) and examples on British television of kisses between actors with dark and light skin: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_interracial_kiss_on_televisionTribe of Creepy Children: It's interesting to note that the actor who plays Jahn, Michael J. Pollard, was 27 at the time. He was pretty short, so he was able to play a teenager throughout his 20s. He played a lot of memorable side characters, including CW Moss in Bonnie and Clyde (which came out in 1967). He was in lots of other movies and shows, like Dick Tracey and Scrooged and Roxanne, the Steve Martin movie. You can google him. The other kids are mainly the children of actors in Star Trek: William Shatner's daughters Lisabeth and Melanie, Grace Lee Whitney's son Scott, Vincent McEveety's son Steven, and Gene Roddenberry's daughters, Darleen and Dawn. Two other children, Phil and Iona Morris, were the children of Mission Impossible actor Greg Morris, and they later appeared in other Star Trek shows. Phil Morris was in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock in a bit part and then was a guest star on Babylon 5, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager. Iona Morris was in a 2 part episode of Voyager but is mainly known as a voice actor. She was the voice for Storm in the animated X-Men series and in Spider Man: the Animated Series.

Jeff sat at a large table in a dimly lit room in what he assumed was a police headquarters in San Diego, although no one had bothered to tell him where he was, and no one had read him his rights. He assumed he was considered an enemy combatant and his rights had been waived. In the States, it wouldn’t surprise him, but he was in California. The room filled with people drinking coffee, but no one offered him any. “There are some very serious charges against you, Jeff," a fat man that seemed to be in charge directed his comments more at the room than Jeff. Jeff sat there and said nothing. The fat man looked at him, “you’re not going to say anything?" “Could I have some coffee?" Jeff asked. “You are probably going to rot in prison, and you ask me for coffee. It is a shame, given your decades of service, that you find yourself in the middle of this foolish little revolution. I could see that life is easier for you if you cooperate," the fat man said. Jeff stared back at him, thinking that it sounded like an old black and white movie he found in the archives called “Dick Tracey." “Where’s your friend?" the fat man asked, sounding annoyed. “The one that you were going to have in custody within the hour yesterday," Jeff asked. “I trust he was more resourceful than you anticipated." “It’s just a matter of time. Have you seen the news about what happened in Oklahoma? We’ll have that bitch wishing she had never lived. Do you know who I am talking about?" the fat man asked. “My cellmate last night said there is a big blackout in the States. I heard over thirty attacks occurred in Texas, all within a two-hour window. I heard that not a watt of power is moving into the States from Texas," Jeff said in a belligerent tone. “Is that what has stuck up your ass?” “You are part of that gang, aren’t you," the fat man said. “Who am I speaking to?" Jeff asked. listen for more ... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/alamo/message

When The Cluetrain Manifesto was published in 1999, it smacked of silly futurism, like Maxwell Smart's shoe-phone and Dick Tracey's TV-wristwatch. Both of which are now possible. Likewise, the societal shift predicted by The Cluetrain is already happening. Can you feel it? Here's a look at a few of the 95 Theses of The Cluetrain Manifesto. These statements were laughed at when they first appeared 8 years ago, but no one's laughing anymore: 1. Markets are conversations. Are your ads a conversation with your customer, or are they a pompous lecture? 2. Markets consist of human beings, not demographic sectors. Are you marketing to people with names and faces and favorite places, or are you marketing to a “target”? 3. Conversations among human beings sound human. They are conducted in a human voice. Are your ads written the way people talk, or the way ads talk? 4. Whether delivering information, opinions, perspectives, dissenting arguments or humorous asides, the human voice is typically open, natural, uncontrived. Would the public describe your ads as “open, natural and uncontrived”? 15. In just a few more years, the current homogenized “voice” of business – the sound of mission statements and brochures – will seem as contrived and artificial as the language of the 18th century French court. Wow. That's already happening. You've noticed it, haven't you? 22. Getting a sense of humor does not mean putting some jokes on the corporate web site. Rather, it requires big values, a little humility, straight talk, and a genuine point of view. What are your values? Do you admit your mistakes? Do you talk straight, or go sideways? Are you willing to say what you really think? 23. Companies attempting to “position” themselves need to take a position. Optimally, it should relate to something their market actually cares about. I've said it often: “Most ads aren't written to persuade. They're written not to offend.” Do you have the courage to take a position and suffer the wrath of those who disagree? Will you choose who to lose? 24. Bombastic boasts – “We are positioned to become the preeminent provider of XYZ” – do not constitute a position. In my 1998 book, The Wizard of Ads, the fourth of my Twelve Most Common Mistakes in Advertising (chapter 35) was: “Unsubstantiated Claims. Advertisers often claim to have what the customer wants, such as 'highest quality at the lowest price,' but fail to offer any evidence. An unsubstantiated claim is nothing more than a cliché the prospect is tired of hearing. You must prove what you say in every ad. Do your ads give the prospect new information? Do they provide a new perspective? If not, be prepared to be disappointed with the results.” Is your business in step with the fast-coming future? 2007 is winding to a close.
