Willow was a MASSIVE money loser for Disney and Lucasfilm, costing over $150 million for 8 episodes. The viewership was also abysmal, likely leading Disney to just take the write-off and delist the program from Disney Plus. Maybe if the show was actually about WILLOW and not about lesbian ships...? Hard Truth Distilling Company's rustic, 325-acre distilling campus now attracts more than 400,000 visitors annually to Brown County and growth is far from over. In this year in review episode (the 80th of 2023), Coach revisits several topics that seemed to span several episodes: How the Disney Way can influence the classroom positively The classroom behavior crisis, the impact of digital devices on kids, and the teacher shortages. Why Coach is proud of his daughters for choosing a colorblind approach in their relationships rather than an Anti-Racist one. On October 16, 1923 — precisely 100 years ago today — Walt Disney and his older brother Roy launched Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. In time, their business would morph into one of the world's best-known and most beloved companies. To mark this milestone anniversary, co-hosts Dean and Maxwell Rotbart review the history of The Walt Disney Company and Disneyland, paying special attention to the many practical lessons that executives and entrepreneurs can glean from the Disney successes and failures of the past century. Listeners will also hear from Michael Goldsby, a professor of entrepreneurship at Ball Street University and the co-author of Entrepreneurship the Disney Way. Professor Goldsby was a guest on the podcast in September 2019. As a special feature, Maxwell shares the incredible story of how he uncovered, buried deep in the archives of a Kansas museum, an original prospectus for Disneyland written in 1953, roughly two years before the first park opened. If you're a Disneyphile or grown-up Mouseketeer, comparing Walt's vision to today's Disneyland will fascinate you. So perk up your mouse ears and listen to the leaders of the band for a thrilling ride through ten decades of Disneyana and the business lessons they impart. Monday Morning Radio is hosted by the father-son team of Dean and Maxwell Rotbart. • What every organization needs – and what to avoid • “Entrepreneurs and innovators need to think about how society is going to react” (Total Recorded Time is 17:22) Are you suffering from “innovation fatigue?” That's the term used by Los Angeles Times technology columnist Brian Merchant who says that over the past 20 years, “there's been advance after advance — some of them great and compelling, others less so” making it harder to be completely optimistic about any of them. Michael Goldsby, who is chief entrepreneurship officer at Ball State University where he is also distinguished professor of entrepreneurship, says even if some might be feeling drained, such an attitude could endanger companies. But not just any innovation is good, he cautions. “Entrepreneurs and innovators need to think about how society is going to react,” he says, “because if society doesn't like the way it's perceiving that innovation, through legislation and other means they can shut those types of things down.” It didn't quite happen that way for Eastman Kodak. Instead, its failure to recognize game-changing innovation – digital photography replacing film -- doomed the company. “There's a lot of research that says it doesn't hurt a big company to have maybe just a small group exploring the possibilities of other technologies,” Mr. Goldsby says. In this edition of Bizgnus Interviews, Michael Goldsby offers his thoughts on how to recognaize and cultivate innovation in organizations. Please click here to watch the interview: https://youtu.be/e0iWHAkc5aA In addition to dozens of peer-reviewed journal articles on entrepreneurship, business ethics, self-leadership, fitness and wellbeing, creativity, and innovation, he is co-author of the books “Corporate Innovation: Disruptive Thinking in Organizations,” “Innovation the Disney Way,” and “Design-Centered Entrepreneurship,” now in its second edition. Mr. Goldsby helped design, build, maintain, and operate a golf course owned and managed by his uncle Les and Aunt Joann before receiving his doctoral degree. He has also run in 25 marathons (including eight Boston Marathons) and participated in Ironman triathlons. For more information: mind2momentum.com

How are we doing making other people's place on earth a bit better? Disney places a heavy emphasis on the guest experience by teaching their cast members their 7 Guest Service Guidelines. Many visitors to the Disney World will remark how some cast member made their stay a bit better thanks to following these guidelines. How are we doing as teachers and parents in making children's lives a bit better? How does disciplining bad behavior a part of that process?
Reinforcing Behaviors that Shape Your Organization's Culture Shep Hyken interviews Dan Cockerell, Walt Disney Company VP for 26 years and owner of Cockerell Consulting Group with his wife, Valerie. He is the author of How's the Culture in Your Kingdom?: Lessons from a Disney Leadership Journey. He shares how a sustainable culture that inspires loyalty from employees and customers. Top Takeaways: · Culture can be defined as "How things are done around here." It is based on your values, it defines what your best practices are, and how you hire people who are going to believe in that culture. · Any organization can decide what its culture is and then start to go after it with intentionality. It is not a matter of cost; you can't buy culture. It is a matter of will. · Dan Cockerell shares how organizations can create the right culture that makes a long-term impact on employees and customers: 1. Hire the right people. Look at the people in your companies who are superstars and figure out what makes them great. Then, find people who have the same fire and great attitude. 2. Train them right. Set clear expectations from the beginning, starting from the interview and onboarding process. Your employees should understand why what they do is important in the overall customer experience. 3. Treat them right. Treat employees with respect. Listen to them, equip them with the right tools, and help them when they need it. Recognize them when they do a great job so you can reinforce the good behaviors that bring a stronger culture. Quote: "Money is not a long-term differentiator to keeping your employees happy. It is important because it helps you do things in life, but when it comes to human nature, people don't perform for money. What they do every day gives them the purpose that will make them stay in your organization." About: Dan Cockerell is a retired 26-year Walt Disney Company VP who now owns Cockerell Consulting Group with his wife Valerie. Dan Cockerell spent 26 years working for Disney and wrote about all of his experiences in his book “How's the Culture in Your Kingdom?”. Whenever people talk about culture, my ears perk up because I know that if we want to build winning teams, the culture we create is a key part of that. I read the book (and loved it) and then asked Dan if he'd come on the show and teach us how to build cultures the Disney way. **Buy a copy of Dan's book: https://amzn.to/3KzCZOz **Preorder "The Secret Society of Success" and get an immediate download of the first 4 chapters: https://www.buildawinningteam.com/preorder-bonus

Really think about what you're looking for in a candidate, and then ask for those skills and those qualifications, and you'll probably get the right person.” 7:45 https://www.linkedin.com/in/michael-fiato-a2b05039https://www.amazon.com/Hospitality-Edge-Stories-Delight-Productivity/dp/B08P3JTT8X

Jake Poore spent nearly two decades at the Walt Disney World Company in Florida helping to recruit, hire, train and align their 65,000 employees toward one end in mind: creating memorable experiences for individuals, not transactions for the masses. In 1996, Jake helped launch the Disney Institute, the external training arm of Disney that sold its business secrets to the world. 80 percent of the people who attended the Institute were from healthcare…and Jake’s passion for helping to improve healthcare began. He teaches us how to get everyone at an organization to focus on the patient experience, whether they have a financial incentive or not and it starts with a morning huddle. We also discuss empowering the staff to improve the patient experience and why there needs to be a mechanism to get their ideas to management. Lastly, we discuss preboarding, which is hiring, and onboarding. This was chock full of great ideas to start applying tomorrow. Just after September 11, 2001, Mr. Poore launched Integrated Loyalty Systems, a company on a mission to help elevate the human side of healthcare. Since then, Jake and his team of experts have been sharing the organizational blueprints needed to build world class patient experiences by helping them design and execute patient-driven cultural blueprints, define the companies’ patient experience strategy and map out and operationalize the ideal patient and employee experience. Mr. Poore spends most of his time in the trenches of healthcare, working side by side clinical and non-clinical care team members on every step of the patient experience. Please SHARE! This episode, I am joined by Lee Cockerell and Dan Cockerell, former Disney executives and current leaders in the entrepreneurial space. Both Lee and Dan have grown from humble beginnings into some of the most noteworthy leaders of their generations. Born in Oklahoma, Lee went from a waiter with no degree to being recruited by Disney to launch the food and beverage division of Disney Paris. Similarly, Dan, after graduating with a political science degree grew from a parking lot attendant into overseeing the largest theme park in the world. They are now both pioneering their own ventures and experiencing major success. These guys know what it takes to Standout and today, they are sharing their wisdom and experience with you. We all learn through experience, exposure and education. A true leader will make the most out of every experience. Know who you are and what you want to be known for and find those people who live those values and study them. There is power in saying yes and approaching simple tasks with an amazing attitude. When aptitude is equal, attitude will be the determining factor people look for. When you boil it down, Standing out is about being trustworthy. Decide how you want to be perceived, and then make sure you do those things. You will stand out in your consistency, attitude and follow through. If there is a gap in how you want to be seen and how others see you, then you aren't all the way there. You can't be everything to everyone. Decide what you want to do well and then learn it – be the best there is at it. Don't settle for simply being a high performer. Be the person who lifts others to that level as well. Rise. Shine. Impact. Your yes has power. In the last episode of The Jody Maberry Show, Dr. Mike Goldsby joined me to talk about entrepreneurship the Disney Way. Dr. Goldsby returns to ask me three follow up questions to our conversation. In response, we are discussing three entrepreneurs who have influenced/impacted me over the years. Second, we take a look at my time as a park ranger. How did my experience and the skillset I learned prepare me for what I am doing now? Lastly, we are examining the areas of challenge and the opportunities for innovation in education as we move forward. These three topics share the bottom line that leaders learn from the inputs around them – whether observation, experience, or the chance for innovation. Leaders keep moving.
Today, Dr. Mike Goldsby, Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship at Ball State University and author of Entrepreneurship the Disney Way is with me. Dr. Goldsby has been teaching for 20 years and is sharing some valuable lessons about entrepreneurship, especially as seen in the life and career of Walt Disney. Entrepreneurship is about being creative and it is all about opportunity. Walt Disney balanced creativity and business. He was a dreamer who knew how to be open to his circumstance and how to capitalize on his unique situation. As entrepreneurs, we can learn a couple of lessons from him in this area. First, be willing to take time and shape your ideas – learn and take input. Second, as a dreamer/visionary, surround yourself with implementors. Understand yourself and what you stand for. Know yourself well enough to know when an opportunity isn't for you. When you know what gives you energy and what takes it away, you can be patient enough to wait and find the opportunities that are good for you and those connected to you. “A visionary needs an implementor”

Global Product Management Talk is pleased to bring you the next episode of... The Everyday Innovator with host Chad McAllister, PhD. The podcast is all about helping people involved in innovation and managing products become more successful, grow their careers, and STANDOUT from their peers. About the Episode: Last year I was at a product management conference in Orlando and the keynote speaker discussed leadership at Disney. It got me interested in how Disney innovates. A few months later I found out about Duncan Wardle, who was the Head of Innovation and Creativity at Disney for many years. He led the team that helped Imagineering, Lucasfilm, Marvel, Pixar and Disney Parks to innovate, creating magical new storylines and experiences for consumers around the globe. Now he is a keynote speaker and also deliverers workshops and ideation forums to companies around the globe. We discuss a lot of topics about creating an innovation capability in a company and creating products customers love. I most enjoyed the customer research examples he shared for getting insights that lead to more valuable products.
