The Lion King is a 1994 American animated musical drama film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The 32nd Disney animated feature film and the fifth produced during the Disney Renaissance, it is inspired by William Shakespeare's Hamlet with elements from the Biblical stories of Joseph and Moses and Disney's 1942 film Bambi. The film was directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff (in their feature directorial debuts) and produced by Don Hahn, from a screenplay written by Irene Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts, and Linda Woolverton. The film features an ensemble voice cast that includes Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella, Rowan Atkinson, and Robert Guillaume. Its original songs were written by composer Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice, with a score by Hans Zimmer. The film has led to many derived works, such as a Broadway adaptation in 1997; two direct-to-video follow-ups—the sequel, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998), and the prequel/parallel, The Lion King 1½ (2004); two television series, Timon and Pumbaa and The Lion Guard; and a photorealistic remake in 2019, which also became the highest-grossing animated film at the time of its release. In 2016, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The Lion King is the first Disney film to have been dubbed in Zulu, the only African language aside from Arabic to have been used for a feature-length Disney dub. The Lion King is a 2019 American musical drama film directed and co-produced by Jon Favreau, written by Jeff Nathanson, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Fairview Entertainment. It is a photorealistic computer-animated remake of Disney's traditionally animated 1994 film of the same name. The film stars the voices of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Kani, John Oliver, Florence Kasumba, Eric André, Keegan-Michael Key, JD McCrary, Shahadi Wright Joseph, with Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, and James Earl Jones reprising his role from the original film. Plans for a remake of 1994's The Lion King were confirmed in September 2016 with Favreau attached to directed following box office successes for Disney remakes such as The Jungle Book (2016), which was also directed by Favreau. Disney hired Nathanson to write the screenplay in October 2016. Favreau was inspired by certain roles of characters in the Broadway adaptation and developed upon elements of the original film's story. Much of the main cast signed in early 2017, and principal photography began in mid-2017 on a blue screen stage in Los Angeles. The "virtual-reality tools" utilized in The Jungle Book's cinematography were used to a greater degree during filming of The Lion King. Composers Hans Zimmer, Elton John, and lyricist Tim Rice, all of whom worked on the original's soundtrack, returned to compose the score alongside Knowles-Carter, who assisted John in the reworking of the soundtrack and wrote a new song for the film, titled "Spirit", which she also performed. The film serves as the final credit for editor Mark Livolsi, and it is dedicated to his memory. With an estimated budget of around $260 million, The Lion King is one of the most expensive films ever made.

A Macskafogó (1986) Magyarország kedvenc animációs filmje, Ternovszky Béla rendezése, Nepp József forgatókönyve generációk számára teremtett felejthetetlen emlékeket. Beszélünk a film elkészültéről, a főszereplőkről, a szinkronhang és a karakterábrázolás egységéről. András mesél a saját Ternovszky-interjújáról is. Based upon Winsor McKay's pioneering comic strip and animated short, Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland was a joint production between Japanese and American animation studios that went through almost fifteen years of development hell before it was released to dismissive reviews and indifferent ticket sales in 1989. The roll call of those who worked on the film in some capacity can feel like a list of people who guided children's film for the next thirty years; notable names include Brad Bird, Jerry W. Rees, Brian Froud, Chris Columbus, Osamu Dezaki, Hayao Miyazaki, Andy Gaskill, Roger Allers, Isao Takahata, and many others. While the movie was a flop, it did attract a modest cult audience on home video (a decent pair of video games for the arcade and the NES console didn't hurt either). Ryan is joined by Cheryl for a breakdown of this interesting crossroad in the history of animated film. Discussion topics include the incomplete characterization of the main character, how the visual splendor of McKay's art nouveau-inflected style was translated to the screen, and the general grumpiness of Mickey Rooney. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ryan-valentine3/support

Hosts Dave Bossert and Aljon Go chat with Roger Allers, film director, screenwriter, storyboard artist, animator, and playwright. Allers is best known for co-directing the highest-grossing traditionally animated film of all time, Disney's The Lion King, and for writing the Broadway adaptation of the same name. He also directed Sony Pictures Animation's first feature-length animated film, Open Season. Allers worked as an animator for Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and worked as part of the storyboard team for Tron, which was the first theatrical feature film he worked on. He served as a storyboard artist on The Little Mermaid, The Prince and the Pauper, and The Rescuers Down Under before he was appointed as Head of Story on Beauty and the Beast and assisted as a storyboard artist during the re-writing phase of Aladdin. In October 1991, Allers signed on to co-direct The Lion King with Rob Minkoff. Following the release of The Lion King, Allers and writer Matthew Jacobs conceived the idea of Kingdom of the Sun, which was reworked into The Emperor's New Groove. Allers began work on Lilo & Stitch as an additional story supervisor and was approached by Don Hahn to direct the short film, The Little Matchgirl.* The duo also discuss the latest Disney film and park news including Marvel's Black Widow, and Doogie Houser's reboot on Disney+, and Disney's Galactic Starcruiser hotel in Walt Disney World. Roger Allers & Rob Minkoff's seminal animated film, "The Lion King," represented the pinnacle of success for traditional Disney animation...and the beginning of its downfall. Twenty-five years and numerous regime turnovers later, the Disney corporation has remade "The Lion King" under the direction of "Iron Man's" Jon Favreau. Marketed strangely as a "live action" remake, it is a scene-by-scene (and almost shot-by-shot) rehash animated with photorealistic CGI animals and environments. Can the new version hold a candle to the old? How did the original "Lion King" manage to both break box office records and plant the seeds for the death of American traditional (hand-drawn) animation? In this episode, the SSN Crew and special guest Stephanie of the Mocha Minutes Podcast answer these questions and more, including a revisiting of the short-lived feature animation studios that sprang up in "Lion King's" wake, how both versions of the film deal with their celebrity voice castings, and what the future of the Disney "live action" remakes could look like, for better or worse. With the new photo-realistic computer-animated remake of the horizon, it is time… to look at the original Disney animated classic that also celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary – The Lion King. Directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, The Lion King is the thirty-second Disney Animated feature film, which takes us to an African kingdom of lions and follows Simba (Jonathan Taylor Thomas), a young lion who is to succeed his father, Mufasa (James Earl Jones), as King of the Pride Lands. After Simba’s paternal uncle Scar (Jeremy Irons) murders Mufasa, Simba is manipulated into thinking he was responsible and flees into exile. Upon growing up unconventionally with a meerkat and warthog duo – Timon (Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella), Simba (Matthew Broderick) is given some valuable perspective from his childhood friend, Nala (Moira Kelly), and the wise Rafiki (Robert Guilaume), before returning to challenge Scar to end his tyranny and take his place as the rightful King in the great Circle of Life. Rewind to celebrate the vibrant colours of the animation sequences, a larger than life combination of characters and voice work, original songs written and produced by composer Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice and a score by Hans Zimmer – but it wasn’t without several controversies.
Hosted by Andrew Quinn and Darren Mooney, and this week with special guests Phil Bagnall and Graham Day, The 250 is a (mostly) weekly trip through some of the best (and worst) movies ever made, as voted for by Internet Movie Database Users. New episodes are released every Saturday at 6pm GMT. This time, Rob Minkoff and Roger Allers's The Lion King. The Pridelands have enjoyed a period of sustained peace under the stewardship of the proud king Mustafa. However, Mustafa's young son Simba finds himself embarking upon a journey of self-discovery and adventure as he learns just how fragile happiness can be and just how heavy responsibilities can weigh upon a king. At time of recording, it was ranked 45th on the Internet Movie Database's list of the best movies of all-time.

Concluding our coverage of Walt Disney's "the Lion King", we go even further behind the scenes, to that shadowy place the light never touches. These never-before-heard roundtable interviews offer more to see than can ever be seen, with people who had more to do than could ever be done: * Mike Surrey (lead animator of Timon) * Tony Bancroft (lead animator of Pumbaa) * Don Hahn (producer) * Tim Rice (lyricist) * Roger Allers (co-director) * Rob Minkoff (co-director) This junket took place on May 20, 1994

Brenda grew up as the youngest of 5 children. Her mother helped foster her genuine interest in art and eventually Brenda attended CalArts where she eventually met her husband, fellow filmmaker, Kevin Lima. Once she graduated, Brenda landed a position with Disney where she was a story trainee on the Disney animated film The Little Mermaid. She was one of several key story artists on Disney's Beauty and the Beast, where she worked closely with future Disney director Roger Allers to define many of the key sequences and motifs used in the film. She later served as head of story, the first woman to do so in an animated feature film, for Disney's animated classic The Lion King. Brenda also worked in story and development for other Disney animated films such as The Rescuers Down Under, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Fantasia 2000. She joined DreamWorks Animation at its inception in the fall of 1994. She co-directed the Disney·Pixar film Brave, becoming the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. A fun-filled and interesting show this week as we take a look into the future with the new sci-fi indie from Kryzz Gautier, KEEP, LEAVE. Our tour guide for KEEP, LEAVE is one of the film's stars, our good friend Kendra Montagna, who joins us live in studio, as we also welcome producer Hectorlyne Wuor Jarmon to talk about KEEP, LEAVE, its all female crew and the ongoing Kickstarter campaign. Then get ready for some "madness" when director Jeremy Royce joins us to talk about his debut documentary and Slamdance Jury Documentary Honorable Mention winner, 20 YEARS OF MADNESS. As the cast and crew of 90's cable access show "30 Minutes of Madness" reunite 20 years later for a "re-boot" of their youth, Royce is there to capture it all and as we hear from Royce, madness, mayhem and fun ensue. We also shed some sweet light on a powerful – and entertaining – documentary, THAT SUGAR FILM, and you'll hear excerpts of my exclusive interview with writer/director Damon Gameau. Closing out our show we start to touch on the ethereal beauty of new entry into the animation spectrum this year – KAHLIL GIBRAN'S THE PROPHET. Produced by Salma Hayek and directed by Roger Allers, you can hear Hayek's inspiration and passion for the project. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
