Igralka in pisateljica Maja Gal Štromar, Koprčanka v Ljubljani, in Danijel Malalan, igralec in direktor Slovenskega stalnega gledališča v Trstu. Jeannette talks to renowned theatre director, Luke Kernaghan, on the ways in which he has harnessed the power of his creativity to unlock success, the value of connections and how networking has accelerated his journey of growth, and why following your passions is the key to lifelong happiness when it comes to your career choice. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is no substitute for authenticity, and you cannot truly be yourself until you've asked the internal questions required. Sometimes the forces that drive us are difficult to identify, and manifest themselves through instinct. We should always listen to our inner voice. If we are able to identify our passions, and forge a career in that sector, then working becomes a privilege, and fulfilment is far easier to achieve. Theatre in particular, thrives upon community. Those who are in the field, raise each other up and encourage support from all sides. BEST MOMENTS 'Your energy is incredible. You clearly love what you do' 'My journey was not linear' 'You don't go into theatre to make money!' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. How can we align to our most authentic selves? Embrace our uniqueness and gifts and share them loudly and unapologetically with the world? Who better to ask than Charlotte Fox AKA @thepyschedelicfox - actor, comedian, yoga teacher and HIGH VIBES extraordinaire. I attended one of Charlotte's stand-up comedy gigs in Brighton last summer and then met her again by chance at a day-retreat. I was drawn to her magnetic energy, radiance and reflections on creativity and inspiration and knew I had to co-create an episode with her to put out into the universe. For me, Charlotte embodies so much of that va-va-voom we all aspire to have in our lives. Sometimes we can be so afraid - consciously or subconsciously - of truly being ourselves, of going against the grain, not following the trodden path, speaking our truth, being perceived as “too much.” Described as “affirming, ludicrous, surreal and raw” by Tung Magazine, Charlotte in her own words kicks us out of our own comfort zones, lovingly and compassionately and gives us permission to BE MORE of ourselves. About Charlotte: Charlotte Fox is an alumni of Soho Theatre's galaxy of rising stars, actor, comedian, writer, yogi. Charlotte studied acting at Jacques Lecoq in Paris and she gigs regularly as a comedian in the UK. She sold out her shows at the Warren at Brighton fringe and played the spiegeltent in 2022. She hosted the atrium stage at Wilderness this year and has worked across UK festivals. She teaches yoga and meditation internationally and hosts successful yoga retreats in Ibiza, Bali and Mexico. She has been described as “affirming, ludicrous, surreal and raw” by Tung Magazine. In this episode: - Embracing our individuality even if it means deviating off the trodden path - Not being afraid to fail and seeing failure as an inevitable part of growth and living courageously and part of the road to success - Forgiving ourselves for our failings or wrong-doings - Taking risk and finding the joy in play, being ‘bad' and rebellious - Trusting the niggles and getting in tune with our hearts and bodies to receive intuitive guidance, inspiration and creative ideas - Taking full responsibility and agency within our own lives - Balancing our ‘doing' and ‘being' in the pursuit of our goals and dreams To stay updated with Charlotte's upcoming gigs, events and retreats you can find her at @thepsychedelicfox or www.thepsychedelicfox.com

Sabina "Sabs" Netherclift is a teaching fellow at GSA with over 20 years of movement experience. She has worked with many companies including the Young Vic, Central and the English National Opera. Her primary teaching point at GSA is the work of movement director Jacque Lecoq, having trained with the man himself in Paris. She schools me on his foundations, the way he worked with his students, and how you can create anything with movement! Lecoq was devoted to observing the natural world, its elements and movements. He also used masks to stimulate movement development and create characters. Great talk and learning experience for me, hope you enjoy! Dominique Serrand is Co-Artistic Director for The Moving Company, a traveling theatre company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Born and raised in Paris, Dominique came of age during the protests of 1968, when young people took to the streets to protest capitalism and patriarchy and brought the French government to a standstill. He saw both sides of that struggle, first on assignment with the French Navy in Somalia, and later as a student at the famous Jacques Lecoq School for international theatre. While studying at Jacques Lecoq, Dominique forged a special bond with classmates from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Together they founded Theatre de la Jeune Lune, or Theatre of the Young Moon. The young drama company moved its base of operations to Minneapolis in 1981 and built a reputation for innovation and excellence over the next three decades, winning a Tony Award for Best Regional Theatre in 2005. During this period, Dominique won many other awards, such as Best Production for The Miser, fellowships with the USA Artist Ford Foundation and the Bush Foundation, and knighthood by the French government with the Order of Arts and Letters. Theatre de la Jeune Lune closed in 2008. Later that year, Dominique and a few of his partners from Jeune Lune formed The Moving Company, which continues to produce new work in the Twin Cities. See excerpts of Refugia and Speechless. Listen here to a 1992 interview with Dominique Serrand for Minnesota Portraits, a series produced by Twin Cities PBS. Maria Wodzinska (“she/her”) Maria began her training at Humber College working with physical theatre practices from the Barba, Grotowski and Lecoq tradition. Later inspired by mask and movement workshops in London at LAMDA with Mark Bell, she continued physical theatre studies and graduated from L’ecole Jacques Lecoq in 2015. Concurrently she studied under Pascale Lecoq in the Laboratory of Movement (LEM). LEM focusses on the language of movement of scenic objects, masks, and object manipulation. Additionally, she has worked with Raymond Bobgan of the Cleveland Public Theatre on physical theatre training from the Grotowski tradition. Her current interest is to develop a blended pedagogy from these two traditions, Lecoq and Growoski, and evaluate their possibilities for applied theatre contexts. This is the focus of her Major Research Project for her MA Studies at York University, funded through SSHRC research fellowship.www.mariawodzinska.com Twitter: @Maria_Wodzy Instagram: mariawodzinskaOliver Jane (“they/them”) Oliver is a Toronto based multi-disciplinary artist, devised theatre director, and theatre producer. Camille Thornton-Alson is a classically trained actress, coach, and teacher. A longtime friend of Lauren’s, the two met while studying abroad in London – right before Camille began a stint in Paris at L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq. Following her stay in France, Camille returned home to the Bay Area and was immediately stricken with a mysterious illness…one that took her almost a decade to break through. Mistakenly diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, for years she struggled to find her footing while maintaining an active career in the arts (and graduating with a MFA from the University of Washington). Eventually, she was diagnosed with lead and mercury poisoning…and after years of inner remediation (think major detoxing and every change in diet – and in mindset – that you can imagine), she now lives a full and functional life, mindful of her sensitivities. She teaches acting at Santa Barbara City College and USC, among others, and is the co-founder of Speak LA, an organization founded to help actors find their way in Hollywood. In this episode, she sat down with Lauren to share her journey – long and winding, but with a happy ending indeed. Tune in as Camille shares… - that she first got sick at 19 years old – and got progressively worse over several years with various infections - that she finally decided to do something about her illness after collapsing in a dance class - her symptoms: inexplicable chronic pain, fatigue, infections, brain fog, an inability to digest food, and muscle weakness - that she advocated for herself early on: sitting her doctors down at that young age to give full health histories - that her doctors told her she had CFS, and that she’d have to learn to live her life that way - that it took 7-8 years for her to get the diagnosis of lead and mercury poisoning - the fine line she walked between giving up and striving through her illness - that she lost a lot of friends during the period of her illness - that the only people she could keep up with were seniors in a Tai Chi class – but it was very nourishing to move and commune with others - that she would spend the week before and during her period almost unable to open her eyes from her crippling fatigue - that she saw her life passing her by, and struggled to find beauty in who she was and in her experience - that she came down with EBV while in grad school - that early integrative testing indicated a thyroid problem – but her integrative doctor had a feeling that the thyroid problem was tied to something deeper, so she kept digging…and found lead and mercury poisoning that were off the charts - that she made a decision very early on that she would not die - that the illness bred an underlying fear in her: would she make it through today, or survive tomorrow? - how she gave in to healing protocols and moved forward despite her fears - that she went through a grieving process once she was better, because she’d fought so hard for years and realized her survival, fully acknowledging her past - what she learned from her illness – that the gift of chronic, life-threatening conditions is that you learn to take care of yourself - that she felt resentment through her healing, feeling she was denying pleasures to herself – but so appreciates the importance of her protocols in her current, full health - that the biggest change in her life was in changing the way she ate - that it wasn’t only diet that allowed her to detox: she also used in-office IV chelation for a full year, during her final year of grad school - that none of her chelation treatments were covered by insurance – but they saved her life - that surviving chronic illness gives you a deeper understanding of humanity – and deeper empathy - that self-advocacy and survival can be a lonely road - why she believes that there is always a diagnosis – an underlying cause - that she was additionally diagnosed with fibromyalgia – which was actually a symptom of her lead poisoning - that your body loves you and is on your side – but it’s trying to tell you what’s wrong - that getting sick forced her to check her ego - how gratitude has transformed her mindset - that she continues to choose – on a daily basis – to make her wellness a priority

BODY STORIES Everybody tells stories. This episode focuses on the stories your body tells, often without your conscious knowledge. Are you ready to explore your body stories? It’s important to become aware of the messages your body transmits to the world because those messages are more powerful than your words. You can be a good speaker with unconscious body language that contradicts your words. People will respond to and believe the body language because it speaks directly to their unconscious minds. These are some of the dangerous signals that your body may transmit that can undermine even a well prepared presentation: Arrogance Distant and cold Angry Afraid You will learn to identify common body gestures that can stand between you and your audience: Arms folded on chest Holding fingers of one hand with your other hand Hands in pockets You will discover three powerful resources to help you strengthen your communication by raising your awareness of your body stories. They are: Neutral Masks – created by Jacques Lecoq, a famous mime and acting teacher who used masks to reveal the messages behind physical gestures Unique Forms of Continuity in Space – a bronze sculpture that captures the power and dynamic forces of the human body; it was created by Umberto Boccioni Moment Before Exercise to give your presentations a powerful opening Listen to this episode repeatedly and practice the techniques I offer you quickly become a more compelling communicator.
