I've decided to take a risk with this episode of Unbeatable. As any great warrior knows, sometimes the enemy is so overwhelming that you must lock arms with another battle buddy to survive. I have a passion for seeing people thrive in the face of difficulties. That's one reason why I created this podcast in the first place. From across America, 1,200 emerging leaders recently gathered in Washington, DC, to join in a live discussion at the Student Leadership University conference. In this episode of Unbeatable, I sit down with former guest Brent Crowe, and we have an honest conversation about life and leadership that we recorded while at SLU.Brent and I lock arms and answer some penetrating questions during the episode. We then turned our raw conversation into a joint episode of the Unbeatable and Chasing Elephants podcasts. In this episode, you'll hear us answer questions like:“How do you focus your life in the middle of overwhelming distractions?”“What are your honest thoughts about the current condition of the USA?”“How do I know what God wants me to do with my life?”“What is your greatest fear, and how do you overcome that fear?”“What is the source of your passion for serving God and others?”“How do I get through difficult seasons in life?”“What is the greatest obstacle to this generation's faithfulness?”“What is your top piece of advice every leader needs to follow?”Find out more about Student Leadership University hereSubscribe to the Chasing Elephants podcast hereI created a motivational video with the top lessons I learned in Ranger School. Fruit Filled Freedom Galatians 5:15-26What Paul teaches on Freedom: Walk by the Spirit. Our flesh tells us the opposite of the Spirit. You're either walking by the Spirit or the flesh. You can't be a part time spirit walkers and part time flesh walkers. We have to walk by the Spirit 24/7. Be led by the Spirit. Submit and subscribe to the wisdom and discernment of the Spirit. Leverage the fruit of the Spirit.Understand an upward relationship with God. Understand the outward responsibility with have with others.Understand the inward requirement of ourselves. Why do we call it Good Friday? Because Jesus is the greatest good God could have given to mankind. Luke 23:32-38 "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." know not what they do - these people did not understand that this very event was for them.forgive - comes from the same word as grace. It's basically grace in action.present tense - what if every time someone mocked Jesus, He said these words. What a message of hope. Good Friday makes Resurrection Sunday possible. Friday is still goodFriday is good because I once hid in the garden, and He came lookingIt's so good because I was the crazy one building a boat for a world without rain, then He sent the floodFriday is good because I was fatherless and nationless, and God said look upFriday is so good because I was infertile couldn't have a baby, then I gave birth to a nationFriday gives me hope because I was once cast in a dry well to die, but God had already sent a caravan to pick me upIt is miraculous because I was a prostitute that committed high treason to help God's people, and found out that my past doesn't predetermine my futureIt is good because I was thrown in the pit, but God already decided I wasn't the lions next mealFriday is good because God met me in self-exile, then used me to set His people freeIt is so good because I once murdered a man to have his wife, and God didn't allow my worst day to be the final wordIt is really good because I once sat in a desert abandoned but not alone, I knew my God was with meIt is good because I was a timid girl from an exiled people, and God decided to make me a queenFriday is good because even though I stared in the face of trouble day after day, I could still rejoice in the God of my salvationFriday is good because “He himself bore our sicknesses, and He carried our pains… He was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on Him, and we are healed by His wounds” (Isaiah 53:4a-5).Friday is good…and is still good, because you can't have resurrection Sunday without Good Friday. Brent walks through John 12:9-19The story builds and even includes Lazarus in John 12:9-11. There is a plot to destroy any evidence that Jesus was the Messiah. If power is your ultimate goal, it will ultimately be your downfall. A line blurred is always a line crossed. So you want to have an effective student ministry, but you want to stay small? Well you can! If you are willing to GO DEEP… WHAT!!! Many of us are afraid of the big fish that might challenge us in ways we just might not want to be challenged. Dr. Jay Strack (Founder of Student Leadership University), would say that we need to teach our students to be leaders and show them that they can learn to swim with the sharks. Students would have their first meeting in the underwater tunnel looking into the shark tank at Seaworld. Once you swim with sharks, your fear level shrinks, and everything else looks easy or at least easier. You realize that many things are possible that you never thought were possible before. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” - Matthew 4:19 NLT So keep diving deep to discover who God has designed to build a lasting student ministry in your church. The next generation is depending on you and God is waiting for you to take a swim in the deep end! On this episode of Melody and Friends, Melody sits down with Author and Founder of She Loves Out Loud, Diane Strack, to talk about walking by faith in the face of difficult days. Diane shares her story about her diagnosis of breast cancer and what it was like facing each day with cancer. She then shares advice for those suffering with acute and chronic illnesses about how to “Always Expect Amazing” regardless of your circumstances. Diane explains in the moments of hardship with her cancer, she discovered that God is always there with us. He is always there listening, comforting and taking us into what is next for our lives. She then talks about the creation of her ministry, She Loves Out Loud, which focuses on “gathering the women of the world” so that they may pray together. Diane shows how in her battle and in so many others, that having that group of women alongside her to say, “We are with you.” and sharing in the tragedy and triumph as they prayed together was transformational. Who is Diane Strack? Diane Strack has created, facilitated, and spoken at women's and youth ministries across the nation for more than three decades. As the founder of She Loves Out Loud, she urges women to engage their circles of influence to “gather the women to pray” and to share the Good News of God's love and healing. She and her husband Jay live in Central Florida and love spending time with their daughters Missy and Chris, son-in-law Brent, and six grandchildren. Things We Talk About In This Episode: How do we fight discouragement in the face of extremely difficult moments in our lives? How do we avoid falling into isolation after devastating news or events and why is having a gospel community especially important for women? Why is serving others a vital component to the process of healing ourselves? Why should we begin to recognize things like depression and despair as spiritual warfare and what can we do to combat that? It's pretty evident that our country has been going through some challenging times here recently. A lot of pain, heartbreak, and devastation to say the least. One thing that has been breaking my heart specifically is the effects that we are seeing within our youth, adolescents, and next generation. For countless reasons including the crumbling of the home, traumatic events, and so much more, kids are being predisposed to experiencing mental health struggles and challenges such as issues with self-esteem, anger, emotion regulation, fear of abandonment, and we're even seeing a staggering uptick in anxiety, depression, addiction, and suicidality as well. Thankfully, today's Built Different Guest is someone who has been on the frontlines for quite some time as he has a strong heart and passion to help impact and influence our next generation, Dr. Jay Strack. Dr. Strack is the President and Founder of Student Leadership University (SLU), and he has had the opportunity of speaking and sharing within countless high schools, colleges, universities, companies, organizations, and professional sports teams across the world. Having experienced an incredibly difficult upbringing himself filled with abuse, broken homes, juvenile detention centers, and more, Jay wants people to understand that they are capable, seen, and pursued by a God who still has a plan for their lives. Your past, mistakes, challenges, and adversity do not define you. God fully knows you and fully loves you. Just be sure that you're not wasting your sorrows!

We look /back/ to Scripture.Worshiping God is about trusting Him with everything about your today /and/ your tomorrow.Question # 1: Are you willing to listen to God?Experiencing God's love is possible because God took the initiative to speak to us.Question # 2: Are you willing to trust God with what you love and care about on this earth?Trusting God begins living from a place of openhandedness with what God has given us.If we live from a place of close-handedness with what God has given us, then we live with idols. You can't see what's possible when you are bowing before an idol.Question # 3: Are you willing to follow God and be obedient even when times are tough, and circumstances don't make sense?Even though Abraham didn't know the end of the story he trusted God enough to know he was in the midst of the story. If you're not able to trust God with what you love most in this world, you're not ready to follow Jesus. Acceptance and agreement are not the same things. I can and should lovingly accept someone without agreeing with their position on an issue. It is a sin to abstain from the fellow believers you disagree with.If we will remember, not how bad we are but how good God is in light of our rebellion and sinfulness, we're going to be really quick to accept our brothers and sisters we disagree with. When consumerism is your approach to church the Body of Christ is harmed.5. Discover points of agreement, and specify points of disagreement because clarity contributes to community, while ambiguity contributes to confusion.6. Adhere to the principles of critical thinking without lowering oneself to criticizing.I don't have to criticizes to think critically on issues. We cannot digest ideas at the same speed we are given them. We must think critically about the world around us.To think critically is to think deeply about the ideas around us.Thinking critically about ideas is one of the greatest compliments we can give to others.7. The end the goal of disagreement is to grow personally and together as followers of Jesus because the table of grace is big, and there is room for us all.Connect with SLU:InstagramRegister for SLULearn more about The LIFT TourLearn more about YPSConnect with our HostsBrent's InstagramBrent's TwitterJeff's InstagramJeff's Twitter

We strive to instill future tense thinking; character-driven decision making; ownership of biblical values; and a commitment to influence through service.Show Notes:Uniformity is not the goal of the Kingdom. The goal is unity within diversity. To disagree well means to compassionately disagree in such a way that each party is adhering to the higher law of love, realizing at the end of the day, that God's desired will on any subject is ultimately what matters. The Foundation:Christians must be able to agree on primary issues before there can be healthydisagreement on secondary and tertiary issues. The greatest apologetic Christians have is our togetherness within our disagreement not our uniformity of belief.Disagreements falls into three categories:Primary issuesSecondary issuesTertiary issuesPrimary issues are covered in the Apostles Creed. The Apostles Creed affirms:Belief in God the Father as Creator of all things.Belief in Jesus as God's Son who died on the cross for humanity and bodily rose from the dead three days later.Belief in the Holy Spirit who ministers to those who have been redeemed and are part of the church universal.A few ideas that are secondary in Christian thought:• Methods of how God created the universe• Views on healing• Gifts of the Holy Spirit• Church government• Modes of baptism• Food and drinkThese issues do not strike at the big idea of Christianity but they can lead to different tribes, movements, and denominations.A few ideas that are tertiary in Christian thought:• Timing of the return of Christ• Styles of music• Methods of preaching• Church architecture• PoliticsThese issues should not keep Christians from fellowship and healthy community; i.e. tertiary issues are those we can disagree about and still be members of the same church worshipping side by side. For Deeper Insights into the topics from this episode check out some of these resources:The Moody Handbook of Theology - Paul EnnsThe Baker Compact Dictionary of Theological Terms - Gregg R. We strive to instill future tense thinking; character-driven decision making; ownership of biblical values; and a commitment to influence through service.Show Notes:The Philosophy of Advent"Advent" not only refers to the remembering of the first coming of Jesus but reminds us to be expectant toward the second coming of Jesus.Advent is a time to pause and reflect on what has come and to reflect on what is coming.Advent is God getting us out of our mess and bringing us home. The more we reflect the more we are convinced of the hope that we have.We can't focus on the problems, we need to focus on the promises of Jesus made real in Advent.Advent season prepares us for a lifetime of looking forward to restoration.Instead of being the end of the story, redemption is the beginning of a story that ends in the restoration of all things in the Heaven Country. We live between two promises. The Practice of AdventThere is no single "right way" to practice Advent. But Christians for millennia before us have handed down good practices to help us focus on remembering the Coming of Jesus.Light different candles.Praying for something specific.Fasting from food or Abstaining from something. If after Advent is done you desire the things of God and you long for Heaven more, you know you've done Advent right. The practice of Advent is important but not primary. What is primary is being in the presence of God.Connect with SLU:InstagramRegister for SLULearn more about The LIFT TourLearn more about YPSConnect with our HostsBrent's InstagramBrent's TwitterJeff's InstagramJeff's Twitter

On today's program, former President Trump reinvigorates his Faith Advisory Board, we discuss the importance of putting Youth Protection Policies in place, and there's been a shake up at GRACE, the group that investigates sexual abuse in Christian environments. We'll have details. We begin today with news of turmoil at Safe Families for Children, an organization that bills itself as a faith-based alternative to foster care that has helped more than 50,000 families in crisis by caring for their at-risk children. Each week, MinistryWatch brings you news about Christian ministries, as well as the latest in charity and philanthropy, news that we examine from a Christian worldview perspective. Our goal is to help us become better stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us. I want to tell everyone about a FREE webinar we have coming up soon. It's called “How To Find And Read A Form 990.” We did this webinar a couple of times in 2020, and it was well-received. We have grown a lot, and we now have a lot of people who weren't getting our daily emails or listening to our podcast when we offered it before. So we'll do it again on Sept. 23 at 2 pm ET via zoom. I know I mentioned that it's free, but you DO have to register if you want to get the Zoom link. So be on the look-out for that link in our daily emails. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Steve Gandy. We get database and other technical support from Cathy Goddard, Stephen DuBarry, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Rod Pitzer, Liz Rieth, Sarah Dreher, Jack Jenkins, Anne Stych, Kim Roberts, and Steve Rabey. Until next time, may God bless you.
