My first love is music, but I don't have enough skill at it to get by. The intro song, is my old band Exploded Toad, but honestly, all I did there was surround myself with incredibly talented people like Rob Bentley, Eric Walters, and Jeff Finazzo so they could carry my dead weight. My guest this week is an insanely talented musician who fairly recently began conquering improv comedy too. He's Matt Wixson. I first met him at a storytelling show, and told him afterwards that I wanted to be friends. He's just instantly likable. I was curious if maybe musicals had an impact on him growing up, which led to his talents and artistic endeavors. Matt also has a lot of music available online. It probably isn't all kid appropriate, but it's incredibly catchy! https://mattwixson.bandcamp.com/ (https://mattwixson.bandcamp.com/) If you'd like to hear more of my stuff, my simultaneously juvenile, but super adult conspiracy parody podcast The Truthcast is available wherever you found this podcast! They talk about the premise of reading aloud and how it is generally something teachers associate with primary students. Pav talks about the book she is currently reading with her class and the dynamics, and how sometimes within middle school - reading aloud sometimes loses its value and place among students. Chey discusses extension to technology and shared experiences with his classroom in regards to reading novels out loud. Pav finds that reading aloud in the class creates a real community building activity. Both Pav and Chey both recognize the positive reactions and positive experiences, filled with enjoyment and connectivity that reading aloud brings to the classroom. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some of the books that Chey & Pav talk about in the episode: "Rebound" - by Eric Walters - http://www.ericwalters.net/novels/rebound/ Twitter: @EricRWalters "The Cheat" - by Amy Goldman Koss - https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/288437/the-cheat-by-amy-goldman-koss/ "The Book Thief" - by Markus Zusak - https://www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/196153/the-book-thief-anniversary-edition-by-markus-zusak/9781101934180 "The Giver" - by Lois Lowry - http://www.loislowry.com/index.php?option=com_djcatalog2&view=item&id=17:the-giver&cid=4:the-quartet&Itemid=185 Twitter: @LoisLowryWriter ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stay in touch with Chey and Pav with Email and Social Media Email: thestaffroompodcast@gmail.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/staffroompodcast/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_staff_room_podcast/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/StaffPodcast Pav Twitter: @MrsWander Chey Twitter: @Mrccheney --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Episode 84 of #theSKYLERIRVINEshow with Podcast Celebrity Eric Walters of Tap That AZ Podcast. Eric moved to Arizona over 10 years ago and hasn’t felt the need the beat the heat since! His passion for podcasting started as a long-distance relationship with his friend back home in the form of a music podcast. Within the show was a segment titled, “What the f*ck are you drinking?” which triggered him to begin a podcast about the exploding craft beer scene in Arizona. Today, Eric travels to breweries, distilleries, and more to hear inspiring stories from entrepreneurs who want to make it happen in the craft beer scene.

Tap That AZ - Arizona Craft Beer Podcast

Show notes by the infamous Classy Alcoholic: So many of the microbreweries in Tucson have made significant contributions to the hype and fame that’s defined the Arizona craft beer scene for the last half-decade. 1912 Brewing Co is a place that has been producing quality beer for a couple of years but has somehow managed to fly under the radar thus far. The locals love them and they’ve been on the lips (both figuratively and literally) of the few Phoenix beer enthusiasts who have made the trek down south to the Old Pueblo. But they aren’t flying under the radar anymore. Because just a few weeks before this episode was recorded, 1912 Brewing was signed by an AZ distributor that is expanding their reach into every part of Arizona.  The owner and head brewer of 1912, Alan Conger, is the guest on today’s episode. And instead if listening to the sweet, smooth voice of your regular host Eric Walters, this ep has been hijacked by Arizona’s #1 craft beer blogger: The Classy Alcoholic.  Mr. Classy is the guest host today and his slurring, drunken fat voice will guide you through Alan’s story as he shares some experiences from his time in the Marine Corps, his struggles transitioning from a homebrewer to one of Arizona’s most prominent craft beer creators and his plans for the future of his business.  Just a few days before this episode aired 1912 Brewing Company successfully canned three of their best beers and they’re currently available now wherever fine AZ beer is sold.  So listen in and make sure to send us some good feedback on how well The Classy Alcoholic did hosting this episode. Seriously, he needs the self-esteem boost. His parents never told him they were proud. He’s sad. He’s so, so sad.  The Classy Alcoholic Arizona’s #1 beer and wine blogger. theclassyalcoholic.net Social media: Facebook.com/theclassyalcoholic Instagram.com/theclassyalcoholic Twitter.com/brownanddrunk Sent from my iPhone while drunk.

Some say Monarchs, considered the “king” of the butterflies, are the most beautiful of all butterflies. But the Monarchs could soon end up on the endangered species list. Tatyana Lobova (Old Dominion University) is part of a national effort to provide sites for milkweed plants, which the butterflies need to survive. Plus: It’s hard to have a conversation in a noisy room, so how do birds get their messages across in highly urbanized areas? David Luther (George Mason University) says not only are song stylings changing, but the beaks of some birds are actually growing longer. And: For a full month, students enrolled in the Wilderness Institute eat, breathe, and sleep their course. The ultimate test of their leadership and wilderness skills comes when their professor Anja Whittington (Radford University) leaves the students to experience the final expedition on their own. Later in the show: It’s a mystery to scientists why there is a string of relatively young volcanoes along the eastern side of North America. Elizabeth Johnson (James Madison University) examines rocks from the depths of extinct volcanoes to unearth what really caused these baffling eruptions. Also: Saxis, a tiny fishing community off the east coast, has lost so much shoreline it’s almost an island now. Russell Burke (Christopher Newport University) is using oysters as part of what he calls “living reefs” as a buffer against the encroaching waters. Plus: Researchers are experimenting with radar as a means of tracking the migration patterns of flocks of songbirds. Eric Walters and Andrew Arnold (Old Dominion University) have teamed up with NASA and environmental groups to study one of the major flyways in the United States.
