Since discovering homeopathy in 2010, Pat has become a leading figure in Ireland's homeopathic farming community. His journey began when his herd suffered a major outbreak of mastitis, which led him to explore unconventional methods. Impressed by the reduction in antibiotic use and the improvement in his herd's health, Pat began relying more on homeopathy, eventually winning milk quality awards for supplying top-quality milk to Dairygold Co-op. In 2019, after another mastitis outbreak, Pat successfully managed the situation without antibiotics, using homeopathy, apple cider vinegar, probiotics, and careful management. This experience deepened his knowledge of homeopathy and its application in farming. As a National Co-ordinator for farm homeopathy courses in Ireland, Pat has trained 25 Irish farmers and vets in the practice, creating a supportive WhatsApp community for knowledge-sharing. Pat regularly shares his farming experiences on his Homeopathy Dairy Farm Facebook page, advocating for a reduction in the use of conventional inputs and promoting alternative approaches to livestock health. The Business of Meetings – Episode 193- Five Steps to Define Your Business Vision with Eric Rozenberg Today, Eric shares a game-changing tool he uses for helping and advising people and coaching business owners. He used the same exercise to help him visualize and map out the future course of his current business. Prepare to be amazed by the incredible results and clarity of direction this process brings you when you put it into practice!  From Shock to a Life-Changing Vision In March 2020, during an annual retreat with his EO group, Eric recalls sitting around a campfire and experiencing the initial shock of sports cancellations due to the onset of COVID-19. Interestingly, the theme of the retreat was envisioning your life in 2030. Eric joined the retreat without any expectations and was pleasantly surprised by the life-changing nature of the process he learned there. Since then, he has often returned to the exercise and reflected on what he wrote during the retreat. A Comprehensive Approach to Shaping the Future of Your Business This exercise is a comprehensive yet straightforward approach to envisioning and shaping the future of your life and business. To make the process more practical, we have broken it down into five manageable steps and aimed it toward 2030: Start by identifying and categorizing the different areas of your life into seven different categories, like health, work, finances, fun, family, and personal development. Once you have defined those areas, rate your current standing within each area in terms of where you are today compared with where you would like to be in 2030, and then set goals for 2030. Create a visual representation, like a chart or graph, to further clarify your goals. Dedicate time to outlining three concrete actions you will take for each area within the next 12 months to propel yourself toward your 2030 goals. It could involve anything from lifestyle changes to professional development initiatives.  Make a list of questions based on how you want your life to be in 2030. Start by thinking about every area of your life, and then list a conclusive series of questions about all of those areas. The questions should cover where you want to live, your relationship aspirations, career achievements, legacy goals, and anything else you hope for. Take all the time you need to answer these questions. Choose a specific day or date in 2030 and describe it as a day in your life. Take all the time you need to vividly depict that day, incorporating all the details you gathered while answering the previous question. This part of the exercise may only take a few hours, or you may need multiple sessions to complete it. By approaching these five steps systematically, you can transform this seemingly overwhelming exercise into a practical and transformative tool for long-term planning. Remember, the key is to let the process unfold gradually. You may need to revisit the process from time to time, to refine your vision.  If you have any questions or need guidance, reach out to Eric. He will provide all the support you need.  If you embark on this journey enthusiastically, you will be astounded by all the remarkable results and newfound clarity it brings into your life and business. Every day, hundreds of thousands of veterans (and likely a lot more) retreat to the fringes of society.  They flinch at every unexpected sound. My guest this episode is Dr. Janine Sagert and she has an unconventional answer: plant medicine. She was the content producer of the documentary, From Shock to Awe, which follows the transformational journey of veterans with PTSD who open themselves up to the healing potential of these miracle plant medicines.Listen now to hear about how this documentary came to be and how vets can *finally* get some reprieve from the waking nightmare many find themselves in.Coming from a military family and her own personal experiences with psychedelics, Dr. Janine Sagert received her doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley with a sub-speciality in altered states of consciousness. She has gone on to coach high-level executives and seminars with meditation. Award-winning filmmaker, multimedia artist and media activist Maxi Cohen tells her story of how questioning authority and pursuing the unknown led her to communicate in new ways, pushing form and creating positive social change in the process. Her groundbreaking work is at once fearless, intimate and always relevant: from the vulnerable and authentic storytelling in Joe and Maxi about her relationship with her father after her mother died of cancer, to South Central Los Angeles - a documentary about the deadly and divisive riots in Los Angeles in 1992 . This was the first film made about racism that included diverse factions and was the first made by real people. Maxi shares her recent projects such as Art2Heart in Soho, New York - bringing together artists during the boarded up summer of 2020 to paint messages of prayer and protest, and A Movement In Water currently in development. This regenerative project bridges art, science and spirituality through an immersive, multimedia, mobile museum of water that instills a greater reverence for what we are made of. “Optimal hydration is an altered state.” says Maxi's co-producer Gina Bria. Her latest work exploring Ayahuasca extends the theme of positive social change to global cultural transformation, by delving into how this ancient sacred plant medicine not only heals trauma and addiction, but also raises consciousness in humanity. About Maxi: Maxi Cohen is an award-winning artist and filmmaker based in New York City. Her films, photographs and multimedia installations have been exhibited internationally and are in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Whitney Museum for American Art, New York, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, and the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa. Her films have played in movie theaters, film festivals and television around the world. In New York City, she became the director of the first public access facility in the country, as part of the Alternate Media Center. At the same time, she set up the distribution system of Electronic Arts Intermix, now the largest distributor of video art in the world. She co-founded the Independent Feature Project, representing feature filmmakers nationally, and First Run Features, the first company devoted to distributing American independent films. Cohen most recently executive produced From Shock to Awe, the story of suicidal veterans who recover from PTSD with ayahuasca and MDMA to be theatrically released in 2018. Cohen's television work includes short films produced for Saturday Night Live, the Comedy Channel, MTV Networks, PBS, Children's Television Workshop, and Fox Broadcasting, ARTE, in addition to developing series for the BBC, CPB, HBO and Turner. Dr. Joe Tafur graduated from the University of California - San Diego Medical School before beginning his career as both a Physician and Professor. He has taught at prestigious institutions such as The University of Arizona - Integrative Medicine, Yale, USC, and The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Being that his family is from South America, Dr. Joe was introduced to the idea of plant medicine very young as a known cultural tradition of the tribes of his ancestors. So when he faced a devastating string of depressions in Medical School, he looked towards healing his entire being more than just his mind. In his home state of Arizona was a church that had religious exemption for peyote ceremonies caught Joe's intrigue. The profound experience and positive affect overnight awestruck him. He couldn't believe the stigma that surrounded something so powerful and truly capable of healing human beings. In 2007, Dr. Tafur went down to Peru for the first time to do an Ayahuasca ceremony. By 2009, he became so close with the Shamans of the Shipibo Culture that Joe and Maestro Ricardo, one of the most knowledgeable Shamans in the Amazon, started a retreat facility called Nihue Rao. Although Dr. Tafur bowed out of ownership in 2017 and gave it over completely to Ricardo, he still frequently brings groups down there to heal. His mission is to teach the world that spiritual practice is spiritual healing, and that spiritual healing is spiritual practice. He believes that Trauma accumulates within society and that the only way one can heal and spiritually grow is if they face their trauma head on and resolve it. Through the years as a Medical Doctor, Joe has seen the long-term effects unresolved trauma has on the mind and body, especially in America and Europeans. He wanted to find tangible evidence demonstrating why people were coming all the way down into the jungle to get a type of healing that wasn't being offered in Western Medicine. His current project is called Modern Spirit where he is attempting to integrate Modern Medicine with ancient ancestral traditions. He is currently Crowdfunding $250,000 for his Modern Spirit Epigenetics project which aims to study the effects that these sacred plant ceremonies physically have on people. Dr. Joe's theory is that by healing the trauma, we are healing the DNA, and he wants to validate the medicinal effects these ancient traditions have on the health and the overall well-being of any and all humans. We may be closer to becoming SuperHuman than ever before, but we're going to have to heal our way through to Human first. Rob is also part of Chacruna’s Council for the Protection of Sacred Plants.  The Council for the Protection of Sacred plants is "an initiative of the Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicines that endeavors to advocate for the legality of sacred plant medicines among indigenous peoples and non-indigenous communities, encourage legal harm reduction practices that protect those who use them, educate about conservation of plant species, document relevant legal and social issues, and consult on legal cases including possible litigation. "  3 Key Points: The Psychedelic Liberty Summit is a gathering on legal, cultural, and political issues around the emerging psychedelic renaissance. Accessibility is not just about whether or not people can afford psychedelic therapy, people cant even afford regular therapy, the whole healthcare model is an issue. A lot of churches get a bad name, but really most churches are built around community. Psychedelics can help revitalize churches. Navigating Psychedelics Show Notes   About Rob Rob is a member of the Chacruna Council for protection of sacred plants He is an integrative sound and music practitioner He is involved in the Santo Daime He has been drinking Ayahuasca for over 20 years He began to ponder and ask a lot of questions about involvement with medicine communities Psychedelic Liberty Summit Rob will be hosting a talk on religious exemptions and more There will be speakers of all different initiatives, from decriminalization to indigenous relations There are a lot of investors interested in the psilocybin market The issue is complex because there is this ongoing cultural history of the US and other countries exploiting those cultures and removing resources (oil, medicines, etc) Ayahuasca The first time Rob drank Ayahuasca was back in 2000, where there weren't Ayahuasca retreats going on then People who lived in the area were not familiar with Ayahuasca use People started coming from around the world to use Ayahuasca There are feedback loops between the cities and the forests People typically think integration is what happens afterwards, but really it is also the sacrifice from the start, the preparation, such as a dieta We need to honor what we have learned from the indigenous, and give back Traditional dietas don't involve actually drinking the Ayahuasca, the culture has come a long way Accessibility While these medicines are relatively safe, you can get in trouble using these substances recreationally, there is a role for the therapeutic support It's not just about whether or not people can afford psychedelic therapy, people cant even afford regular therapy, the whole healthcare model is an issue Santo Daime It was founded in the 1930’s in Brazil The reason that the Santo Daime looks more white in the USA is due to the segregation There are all sorts of ways that the Santo Daime may look When Rob first got involved in drinking Ayahuasca, he wasn't sure that he wanted to get involved in the Santo Daime, but he said the container was so strong There are hymns sung, and it's very structured It allows you to really go deep Sometimes it can look like drumming, dancing, and fire, but there is also a style of sitting in silence There is a profound ethical foundation which is really important All of the elements make for a really important container In the traditional form, you do not touch anyone, unless there is a certain circumstance, and a prior consensual agreement, and waivers signed, etc There have been issues of sexual abuse in the psychedelic realm, the Santo Daime takes many precautions against this Churches There are legal churches in the US through the Daime and the UDV (União do Vegetal) The Daime has 5 churches that are explicitly legal The government has decided not to pursue or prosecute Ayahuasca for those other churches From Shock to Awe Someone tragically died at the Soul Quest Church, but it wasn't related to ayahuasca There are a lot of people that claim to be a part of a Native American church that are not A lot of people reach out to Chacruna on how to become a part of the Native American Church to hold ceremonies, and it's not easy, you almost have to already be a part of it, instead of just joining Some people don't like the word church, but it originates from the words ‘congregation’ and ‘assembly’ “The problem is the controlled substances act, that these things are illegal in the first place” - Rob "The experience in all those settings is about community. The goal isn't to have spiritual experiences, its to have a spiritual life” - Rob Psychedelics and entheogens could be central to creating a new hub It is possible to create psychedelic churches outside of the Santo Daime The Ayahuasca tradition really uses the potential of group process “How individual is the psychedelic experience, where you need some one-on-one work?” - Kyle Psychedelic Liberty Summit April 25-26 in San Francisco Discount Code: PsychedelicsToday for 10% off at checkout Links Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicine Psychedelic Liberty Summit    About Rob Heffernan Rob Heffernan has been involved in the Peruvian curandero tradition and the Santo Daime for the last 16 years. “I was on this rocket ship out of my body and into the universe and I found myself amongst the stars.” This week we're going far out, guys. As you probably know by now, I did a podcast episode at the end of last year about the 21 Things I Learned This Year. This year, we are dedicating one entire episode to each point on that list and this week, we're on number three: the healing power of psychedelics. A few years ago I went through a dark time. During that time I lost so much drive and I was searching for meaning in my life, so I began my first foray into the mystical world of psychedelic drugs and plant medicines. The first one I tried was DMT and since then I've also had experiences with ayahuasca and psilocybin mushrooms. You might recall that I talked about All Things Mushrooms & Creativity with Tero Isokauppila, the founder of Four Sigmatic, a food and beverage company that specializes in mushroom-based drinks. I also spent an episode with Gerry Powell discussing How Plant Medicine Can Change Your Life and interviewed Dr. Jeff McNairy on How Plant Medicine Works In Your Brain. Listen in to today's episode to find out which psychedelic drugs are being used to heal, how plant medicines work in your brain, and how Nick used psychedelics to help him through a difficult time. You can Subscribe and Listen to the Podcast on Apple Podcasts. What is the root of your deepest trauma? What blockages are you holding physically and mentally that are preventing you from stepping into the next happiest, healthiest version of yourself? What kind of pains, experiences, and memories are you ready to let go of?    We all have our ups and downs, but how are YOU reacting to yours? What are they attached to? How are they affecting your relationships, your daily routines, and the passion within your pursuits?    For many years, I stuffed things away into the back of my mind hoping they would just disappear. On many different occasions, they boiled up into black-out rampages and deep pools of depression. I had no idea how to overcome these things that were crippling me. In reality, I didn’t even know what most of them were. We all experience suffering on a certain level, and no matter what level it is, it’s the hardest thing in the world for an individual when it hits.   My experiences with Ayahuasca and other types of Plant Medicine have been discussed before on this podcast. I am in awe with the love that these medicines represent as well as the deep healing wisdom of their teachings. When I was contacted by the crew behind the Documentary, From Shock to Awe, to potentially do a podcast, I was overcome with excitement and curiosity.    “There is really good news on this planet from the ground up, and not from the top down” - Dr. Janine Sagert   The general question being explored within From Shock to Awe is "How do we heal our deepest traumas and wounds?" Can this type of healing be facilitated through natural plant medicines and sacred journeys? Can these medicines help break up, re-pattern, and transform the deepest wounds that exist throughout this complex thing we call humanity?   PTSD, suicide, and chronic depression are some of the more notable issues that trauma can instigate. Within the film, these topics and questions are dissected throughout the exploratory and transformative journeys of a few deeply traumatized combat Veterans, as well as their loving and supportive, yet affected, families.    According to Wikipedia, the most recent report published by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in 2016 analyzed that an average of 20 veterans a day die from suicide. The current support system in place isn’t working, and changes must be made. Can plant medicines help save lives?    Executive Producer Dr. Janine Sagert joins me on this episode for a cosmic exploration into the powerful transformations of Veterans Matt Kahl, Aimee Kahl, and Mike Cooley. We are also joined by Olivia Broughton, a very special guest who has extensive experience with plant medicine ceremonies and authentic relating within the prison system to heal trauma.    On top of the film discussion, we break down the root causes behind our broken community support systems and open up the discussion for how a massive planetary shift has to start within each individual first.    To date, From Shock to Awe has won the “Mangurama Award for Conscious Documentary Storytelling” at the Illuminate Film Festival and “Best Documentary” at the Psychedelic Film and Music Festival. And it has received positive reviews from critics, experts, and audiences alike.    An Overview of the Veterans and Family Members Discussed in From Shock to Awe   Matt Kahl Matt Kahl served in the 101st Airborne Division from 2007-2011. When an ambush blew up one of the convoys he was traveling with, instantly killing the driver and seriously injuring the others passengers, Matt’s life changed. After struggling with severe post-traumatic stress, his mission since has been to get off prescription medications entirely, first with the help of cannabis and, eventually, ayahuasca. His healing through Ayahuasca was so profound that Matt went on to found Veterans for Natural Rights. VNR is a social welfare and political action organization with deep roots in the veteran population, specializing in helping those with PTSD and other Mental/Behavior health issues related to Trauma regain their lives, their purpose, and their sense of community.   Aimee Kahl In 2007, Matt and Aimee were married, and in 2008 he had deployed to Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division. In 2009, Aimee noticed Matt detaching and withdrawing. Matt chose his next step on his healing journey: ayahuasca. “I was scared and felt helpless, but at the same time determined not to stand in his way, noting that, “Everything he tried previously…all conventional meds, conventional therapy, made it worse.” More than anything, she was continually amazed at the bravery of he and his fellow vets. “They’re brave when they go to war and they’re brave now trying to get better. I admire it very much. “I want to get better with them because I realize through all of this, I’m not OK.”   Mike Cooley Cooley was deployed three times — once to Afghanistan and twice to Iraq — but it wasn’t until he returned home in January of 2009 and found himself suddenly losing his temper with his young stepdaughter that he knew something was deeply wrong. “Ayahuasca is the doorway that’s open to me, and I can accept this doorway, and it can bring peace and healing.”   Brooke Cooley Brooke Cooley met her husband, Mike, in December of 2007 while working at the 148th MP detachment in HR. After seeing the positive changes that cannabis had on her husband, they embraced the use of cannabis as a medicine, as “an alternative to the pharmaceuticals we were being handed by the hundreds,” says Brooke. “It worked; it worked very well for both of us. This is a very special episode of Nod Squad in which Unc has special guest Matt Kahl on the podcast to talk about his participation & contribution to the award winning documentary film "From Shock to Awe." Matt served in the 101st Airborne Division from 2007-2011. During his time in the military & deployment to Afghanistan, Matt witnessed so much that it changed him in ways most of us could never possibly fathom. Upon his return home Matt was thrown into an extremely dangerous combination of prescription drugs which included opioid pain killers, benzodiazepines & SSRI's by his doctors in attempts to treat the physical, mental & emotional trauma's that deployment had left him. Desperately seeking for a way out Matt fortunately found a Spiritual Retreat Center that used Ayahuasca therapy. Over the coarse of a weekend Matt had undergone 4 ceremonies, taking the powerful psychedelic and experiencing such a powerful experience that after it was done he was left feeling relief from the anxiety, rage and agony that his experiences with deployment had left buried within himself. Matt's story is incredibly heartwarming & inspiring; one that we have all been touched by. "From Shock to Awe," is available to stream on through Amazon, iTunes, Google Play & Vimeo. Our guest today is Janine Sagert – intrepid consciousness explorer, film producer, a corporate consultant for some of the largest and most influential companies in America, and a life-long social justice and military veterans advocate. Our conversation today covers a wide spectrum of cutting edge, paradigm-shifting issues. We discuss her long history living and working with military veterans, the use of psychedelics to successfully treat mental illness and PTSD, the future of mental health in America, her early adoption of meditative practices and yogic techniques in the corporate consulting she pioneered in the mid-1970s, to her favorite ashram in India where she retreats every year. Her distinctive life has uniquely equipped her to tell the story of combat veterans suffering from suicidal PTSD and their transformative healing journeys with psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and medical marijuana. This is the story which is told in the highly acclaimed documentary film, From Shock to Awe which she co-produced with the award-winning cinematographer, Luc Cote, and Kevin Krause. Her remarkable life and cutting-edge achievements embody an uncommon blend of academic and professional education, research, training, and personal on the ground experience with deep spirituality — as well as a huge heart and indomitable spirit.Commenting on what prompted her to take on a project of this magnitude she said, "It broke my heart to learn that so many of our veterans are experiencing PTSD and that most of them are not getting relief from their suffering. Twenty-two veteran suicides a day! This is truly a national disgrace. I had to do something to help, especially knowing that in the course of my life I had accumulated the skills, experience, and knowledge to do so."Janine is a modern-day polymath and a polyglot who speaks five languages, (Spanish, Marathi, Hindi, German, and English) and world traveler, her own backstory provides many points of connection and empathy with military veterans. Janine is a self-described “army brat” who grew up on military bases around the world. She's a psychologist whose extensive academic career focused on clinical psychology and anthropology and how various elements of culture influence mental health. Her profoundly transformative experiences with psychedelics, lead her to a lifelong dedication to exploring and expanding her own consciousness through spiritual practices such as self-inquiry and meditation. Going where precious few Western women have gone, she traveled more times than she can remember to India and remote areas in the Himalayas to live and study with a variety of yogis and mystics, further deepening her direct experience of higher states of consciousness.Academically, Dr. Sagert earned a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley, in “Culture and Mental Health” with a specialty in Altered States of Consciousness and Psychological Resilience. She also spent two years as part of a Harvard University School of Public Health research team investigating stress factors around the world. Professionally, she founded Time Out, Inc. in 1976 and subsequently provided pioneering consulting and coaching services to a wide spectrum of organizations in the areas of stress management, leadership, and optimal performance. She conducted more than 1,000 seminars and coached more than 500 executives in companies throughout the U. S., Europe, and Asia. This is a remarkably candid conversation with an incredibly down-to-earth and compassionate person who has a life-long career of pioneering consciousness work that has changed the way we look at ourselves and how we live and work with each other in the world.
