Bill Protzmann was born into a Military family. His dad served in the Army Reserves, his uncle served in the Air Force, and his Aunt served as a Brigadier General in the Air National Guard. Although he was a highly sensitive child, emotions were not welcomed in the Protzmann household. He was expected to stand tall with his chest out and go through life with a stiff upper lip. Those character traits did help him find success in his life through playing classical piano but the mental health issues developed from an emotionally neglectful childhood would play an even bigger role later on. His mother was a piano teacher and thus, he took up playing the piano -- admittedly, it took him 9 years of playing before he actually liked it. He learned coming into adulthood that playing the piano was a way for him to express the emotions he was taught to repress within him. He attributes this fact to being about the only reason he didn't go completely crazy. He used the piano to work through negative emotions like fear, anger, sadness which he says are the main animators of music, upwards of 75% of the time. He received a Magna Cum Laude Degree from the University of California at Irvine for Piano Performance in 1999. He recorded two albums; one with a Master Tibetan Bowl Player and another with a Virtuoso Flute player. His performance of Amazing Grace earned a place in the Library of Congress for his 2000 rendition of it. Although piano and music itself were important to him, he fell in love with the relief it brought to his life in the form of sound therapy. After a long bout with depression and even some consideration of "checking out," He realized that something needed to die but it wasn't him, himself. He began studying energy and vibrations and how they affect human beings. He began to understand how important vibrations are to us with the Earth even having its own vibration of 7.83Hz (Shuuman Resonance) that reflects the vibration of Human Alpha Brain Waves. He began coming closer to God throughout his healing journey. This experience became the basis for his belief that music has been around as long as humans have and that it is a direct link to the Divine: “I think we need music as much as we need food. We need sound and rhythm as much as we need to eat. Because sound and rhythm feed us in a way that we can control. Music is something that puts us in sync with the wider Universal Energy, whether someone calls that ‘source energy,' or ‘God,' but whatever that is -- sound and rhythm is that gateway. We better feed our bodies but we also better feed our mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies too because that's all a part of it.” Bill Protzmann is a fellow "spiritnaut" that has found the importance of music and healing the overall human being. He is at the forefront of this massive awakening that the world is going through. He believes that humans need to do many things to find peace in their lives, to include making healthier choices, going through our trauma to grow and evolve, as well as doing the things necessary for every aspect of our being. Above all else, Bill says that humans need to learn to have fun again. Not drug-induced fun that we have become addicted to in this culture but the fun music, community, togetherness, and love can bring into the lives of people who are open to it. Bill Protzmann is an incredible human being with an amazing story of being saved and turning around to help save others. We are grateful at Task Force Zen for the time he gave, to teach us an entirely different aspect to something almost every human enjoys: music. Heather Hackett's childhood was lonely and depressing. She attributes the issues she had with her weight as the biggest contributing factor. Her lack of confidence played a role in every facet of her life and by college, she had let herself go completely. After her wake up call, Heather made huge changes to her life. She began eating healthier and routinely exercising. She eventually started a company called, “I Train Your Kids,” in Sarasota, FL. where she teaches kids, in after-school programs, how to eat healthy with moderation, as well as how to stay physically fit and healthy. Heather took the negatives of her childhood and turned them into catalysts for improving the lives of thousands of children. Her books, “The Pretty in Me,” and “Shaken by the Silence,” both tell stories that speak directly to children. The aim is to connect with them at their level and show them how they are the ones who are in control of themselves. Dr. Joe Tafur graduated from the University of California - San Diego Medical School before beginning his career as both a Physician and Professor. He has taught at prestigious institutions such as The University of Arizona - Integrative Medicine, Yale, USC, and The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Being that his family is from South America, Dr. Joe was introduced to the idea of plant medicine very young as a known cultural tradition of the tribes of his ancestors. So when he faced a devastating string of depressions in Medical School, he looked towards healing his entire being more than just his mind. In his home state of Arizona was a church that had religious exemption for peyote ceremonies caught Joe's intrigue. The profound experience and positive affect overnight awestruck him. He couldn't believe the stigma that surrounded something so powerful and truly capable of healing human beings. In 2007, Dr. Tafur went down to Peru for the first time to do an Ayahuasca ceremony. By 2009, he became so close with the Shamans of the Shipibo Culture that Joe and Maestro Ricardo, one of the most knowledgeable Shamans in the Amazon, started a retreat facility called Nihue Rao. Although Dr. Tafur bowed out of ownership in 2017 and gave it over completely to Ricardo, he still frequently brings groups down there to heal. His mission is to teach the world that spiritual practice is spiritual healing, and that spiritual healing is spiritual practice. He believes that Trauma accumulates within society and that the only way one can heal and spiritually grow is if they face their trauma head on and resolve it. Through the years as a Medical Doctor, Joe has seen the long-term effects unresolved trauma has on the mind and body, especially in America and Europeans. He wanted to find tangible evidence demonstrating why people were coming all the way down into the jungle to get a type of healing that wasn't being offered in Western Medicine. His current project is called Modern Spirit where he is attempting to integrate Modern Medicine with ancient ancestral traditions. He is currently Crowdfunding $250,000 for his Modern Spirit Epigenetics project which aims to study the effects that these sacred plant ceremonies physically have on people. Dr. Joe's theory is that by healing the trauma, we are healing the DNA, and he wants to validate the medicinal effects these ancient traditions have on the health and the overall well-being of any and all humans. We may be closer to becoming SuperHuman than ever before, but we're going to have to heal our way through to Human first. Chi Psilocybin grew up in the United States. Raised by a Japanese Mother and Chinese Father, times were often heated due to cultural differences. Chi was a straight A student throughout school but often found himself in miserable depressions. After spending 16 months in meditation retreats, yet still felt like something was missing. The first time Chi tried psychedelics, he dropped 5 tabs of acid. He said it really opened his mind and heart like it had never been before. As he continued to explore Psychedelics, Chi found and simultaneously fell in love with Psilocybin "Magic Mushrooms," the World began to make more sense. His experiences with magic mushrooms allowed for Chi to completely heal his depression, as well as find a fulfilling life studying and advocating for the legalization of the plant medicine. He believes that every human should have access to magic mushrooms to help them expunge all the sadness and pain that often builds within us, without us knowing. Watching his Father and Grandfather cry while transforming before his eyes made him understand how powerful of a medicine magic mushrooms can be. Since that time, Chi has moved to Amsterdam to create programs for Psilocybin use. His company Tripsitters puts on 5-day retreats where people can come to explore themselves with the aid of the truffles. He's also started a foundation called the Psilocybin foundation where he continues to advocate for magic fungai. He believes that his fate is that of truth, no matter the costs. Chi states that people have tried to stop him and his partners from the very beginning. But the fact that he has died and been reborn many times on magic mushrooms leaves him with little fear of death. To him, life is all a choice, and Chi chooses truth through love. Chi "Psilocybin" is a SpiritNaught looking to bring light and understanding to the world. His well-read, well-spoken, and highly empathetic aura can be felt through his carefully chosen words. From a spiritual perspective, for more than 35 years, I have been asking God the question “What is the unique gift that you have placed in me that you want to share with the world”? It wasn't until I turned 50 and was blessed with a beautiful baby boy that God provided the answer. My son taught me my most valuable lesson, to be the best man, father, husband and community leader that I can be and to leave him a legacy that he can be proud of when I am gone. In the beginning Ollie lost his father, a traumatic time led to extensive emotional eating making the weight shoot up to 250lbs and more, it was then where Ollie was working in a corporate job and when being a ‘successful guy' was mentioned this was the furthest anyone could possibly be – low confidence, high body fat, no sales skills, no morale. When having sex and not wanting to take his top off it finally hit him, he needed to do something about it and got a membership at the gym, invested in his own personal trainer (who coincidently Ollie now mentors himself), this was the start of a massive chapter. Ollie left the corporate world to add fitness as his job and swiftly dropped nearly 100lbs in 12 months to step onto a bodybuilding stage, it was here that learning about nutrition became vital, everything that could be taken on board was taken on board, every hack, every secret, every method was tried to find out what was best to drop weight and put on muscle. This had a dramatic impact on Ollie's life after 4 years doing this full time he was offered a position back in his previous job and how times had changed. Within 6 months of accepting the job Ollie was the top sales guy in the company, this self-confident, powerful and driven individual could not be recognised when compared to his former self, fitness had literally laid the path to be the successful guy everyone was talking about within the company, this was great and it led to Ollie becoming a manager leading over 30 people at any one time. This wasn't enough, Ollie had found his passion with his time in the fitness industry and this made him hungry, he was Revitalized and had unfinished business after helping multiple people online he decided to take the leap and go back full time with this new attitude. Ollie has now worked with people all over the world and having been brought up in a family full of endurance athletes actually became ‘that guy' for nutrition in endurance working with Olympic athletes, world champion triathletes and even Tour De France riders whilst training personally in both strength and endurance himself knowing the importance of constant self development in all areas. It was when looking back on the story of his father passing away before his time that he realized his calling. You see, his father was only trying to provide for his family, working his ass off and financial he was definitely providing but what was missing was the focus on his health, at 47 years old Trevor Matthews passed away suffering a stroke which, with a little more focus on both stress management and health from the inside out could potentially have been prevented. Not focusing on health stopped Ollie's father from seeing massive events in his life – both Ollie and his sister's wedding days, granddaughter being born, graduations and even just literally going for a drive on a Sunday afternoon to watch the game. The Revitalization Blueprint is who Ollie is, it is who Ollie's clients are and the development of The Revitalized Blueprint: Intensive has literally changed the game, there is nothing else more important than yourself, this is why, as mentioned at the start, Ollie is the guy who practices what he preaches. Dr. Rick Strassman is a Medical Research Doctor from Los Angeles. He's best known for his book DMT: The Spirit Molecule. With degrees from Stanford and Albert Einstein School of Medicine -- Yeshiva University, he's been able to publish 30 peer reviewed papers as well as complete a 10-year stint as a tenured professor at the University of New Mexico. During his time at UNM, Dr. Strassman performed clinical research that investigated the Pineal Gland hormone melatonin before earning the first government grant given out in over 20 years for the research of psychedelics where he conducted a DMT study between 1995-2008. He's been a consultant to the US Food and Drug Administration as well as doing work with the Veterans Affairs and Social Security departments. His DMT research lasted 13 years before he retired from clinical research in 2008. He always took a scientific Buddhist point of view although he kept religion and spirituality out of his work. Rick wanted to focus on the biological and psychological effects of DMT on those who suffer from schizophrenia, drug abuse, and unbalanced brain chemistry. Becoming one of the most renowned research scientists to study psychedelics, Dr. Strassman went on to write four books about his research and experiences in life; 3 non-fiction and 1 fiction book that came out in 2019. His book, DMT: The Spirit Molecule has become an authority in the field of plant medicine, as well as his other books DMT and the Soul Prophecy and Inner Paths to Outer Space. After going through medical complications that almost took his life starting in 2015, he went on to write a fiction book entitled; Joseph Levy Escapes Death, where he uses an alter-ego to tell the story of his struggles. Dr. Rick Strassman would like to get back into Psychedelic Research but does not want to do clinical research under a University again. His dream is to pull together independent donors to fund a “University of Consciousness,” where he can do this research while educating the future generations of research scientists interested in alternative medicine and alternate states of consciousness. "Kundalini" Karisa Johnston was born with a brilliant mind aided with a photographic memory. Although she excelled in math and science, her dyslexia, in the 80s, became all the adults paid attention to. Throughout school she found herself in special needs classes. Dyslexia wasn't a "run-of-the-mill" shortcoming as is seen in the 21st century. Scared to fall behind to the other kids in her class, Karisa would often times memorize entire chapters of text books the night before with her mother, so she could recite them by heart the next day, if and when she was called upon to participate. Being a fully aware and already enlightened being, Karisa saw first-hand why people with disabilities were called "special" and it wasn't what the adults were talking about. She saw fully-capable minded humans, trapped in bodies that didn't quite work as expected and being treated as if they were broken or less-than. This experience as a young girl would become the motivation for her Elevation Toolbox Method, which she travels around the world teaching. Karisa didn't always have it all figured out. After she sold her dog grooming business and watched her 10-year marriage fall a part before her eyes, she became determined to understand what the heck had happened in her life. Not too long after, during a conversation with a friend, she heard the word "kundalini" for the first time. It resonated with her so much that after further research, she decided to travel the world studying the 5000 year old ancient science of mantras, mudras, and breath work. She started in Canada and went as far as India, while pursuing her M.A. in psychology. Her goal was to understand the science behind this ancient practice that uses vibrations and touch points to activate the 27 different glands within the human body that maintain our hormones and in-turn, emotions. She wanted to create a practice so simple that somebody with limited range of motion could do it sitting, standing, or lying down. --- "The tongue is triggered to touch reflex points to send vibrations up through the meridian points, or energy lines into the brain, particularly, the pituitary gland, which is the master gland of the brain. When it's activated at its highest frequency or 'best self,' then it is able to manage all the other glands in the brain and in the body." Along with the 84,000 reflex points in the roof of the mouth providing meridian lines to stimulate glands throughout the body, "mulas" or certain arm, hand, and finger positions also activate meridian points. They send messages to the glandular system to release cortisol and adrenaline which are caused by stress, which is caused from feeling overwhelmed because we are literally holding our breath with anxiety. Kundalini Karisa's Elevation Toolbox uses specific mantras, mulas, and breathing techniques to put you back into your original state of being. By touching your thumb to each of your pointer, middle, ring, and pinky fingers, one by one, while reciting "sock, tah, nah, mah" -- you can take yourself out of a heightened emotional state in less than 1-3 minutes to create more space and peace from within, giving you more control from without. Munira Zahabi was born in Kenya, Africa. She found her love of learning through her mother, who was stricken with asthma during childhood, and never received an education past the second grade. Growing up, her mother would study her text books and learn beside her -- oftentimes leaving Munira with thoughts of what her mother could have been, if life hadn't dealt her the hand, that it had dealt. Asthma was an unknown condition back in that time -- the doctor's in Kenya thought people could be contagious so they banned those children with it from attending school. Munira lost her mother very young. By the time her father remarried, the stepmother determined that it was time that Munira got married off to a 33 year-old suitor from Tanzania. She was only 15 at that time. Just like that, her life changed forever and by the time she was 24 -- she had four kids. Munira has always felt that her youth was stolen from her -- something that fuels her to this day. Having to throw away her scholarship to Cambridge University in London, Munira stayed determined to learn as much as she could - always reminding herself that learning was a gift as well as helping others. Two qualities her mother instilled in her before her early departure. She took to the local library and consumed as much knowledge as she could. But the roles mounted quickly -- wife, sister-in-law, mother, and citizen of a new country. She found solace in observing her grandmother. Although the woman lost her husband early-on and struggled with it, she never cursed her journey because she had unwavering faith in God. She chose to be happy in spite of it all. To Munira, those lessons shown to her by her grandmother became the foundation of the woman she has become. In 1995, Bill Clinton had opened an initiative to allow immigrants from third world countries to come to the United States to live and work. While working as a school teacher in Tanzania, Munira learned of this opportunity from a co-worker. Taking it to her husband, he told her that he would help but had no intention of going. After filling out all 17 different applications -- low and behold, Murina was accepted to come to the United States. Her husband kept his promise and didn't want to go but didn't try to stop her from going either. Even her aunt offered to give Munira her entire inheritance if she were to stay. But it was not enough for her. Her youth had already been stolen years ago, now it was time to build a better life for her and her kids. Munira ended up arriving in Bakersfield, California on June 28th, 1995. The rest has been history. Now a John C. Maxwell certified coach, she helps other coaches find their niches to make them riches. As the niche navigator, her goal is to help 5000 more people find success through her self-developed, 3-step toolkit, within the next 5 years. - Step 1: Is what you're doing right now bringing you happiness? - Step 2: If not, then figure out what you'd like to do that would bring you happiness. - Step 3: Then ask yourself, can you do it everyday? Munira is an incredible human being who has overcome so much adversity to love the woman she is today. It was an incredible honor having her on this episode of Task Force Zen. Henry Quick Bear Sr. was born to the Lakota Native American Tribe on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation. As a one year old, he became very ill, and his great grandfather learned the way of the Medicine Man in order to treat, heal, and save Henry's life. He took him to a Lakota ceremonial rite that led him through the sickness and back into sound health again. His fate would be sealed from that day forward. Six years ago, Henry was participating in the Sundance Rite, one of the seven rites of the Lakota people that is performed every year in the summer. During it, he experienced a truly spiritual moment up by a sacred tree where the rite was performed. During the dance he kept feeling these things hitting him in the back, he assumed it as hail, but when he looked up -- there wasn't a cloud in the sky. He was baffled and a bit confused. A year later, Henry went on his vision quest, another rite of the Lakota tribe. During this vision quest, he was able to make the connection to what had happened by the special tree that day. He had never felt more connected to the Earth than that Sundance Rite and now a year later, he knew exactly what he was fated to do. That's when he began his journey towards becoming a healer within his Lakota Tribe. He knew it was time for him to follow in his grandfather's footsteps to fulfill his destiny of healing the sick and caring for the weak. - - - “I've been given a great gift by my grandfather and his helpers -- to try and heal the sick  and help the weak while encouraging people to live by the Lakota virtues given to us.” Since that time, Henry has completed his training and serves as a Medicine Man for the Lakota people, healing the sick and caring for the weak. He's also on a mission to preserve the Lakota language and traditions that are quickly becoming lost in the ever-changing currents of life. As an active tribal council member and the lead cultural researcher for the Lakota Language Preservation Project -- Quick Bear Sr. has made it his mission to teach the Lakota language to anyone who is willing to learn while also advocating for the increased participation of tribal parents, to entice their children to learn the Lakota traditions and language, so that it will not be lost forever. - - - “[We need to] educate as many people as we can and teach the Lakota virtues too, so we can pass that onto our children. If we can all see each other's struggles and understand one another, maybe then they can pass that on in the best way they can, so they can educate and pass on knowledge to future generations -- so they can pass it on after [them].” Please like, share, and subscribe to Task Force Zen Radio Show Notes 02:20 -- Henry Quickbear's Childhood & Background 04:35 -- Medicine Man Lineage 06:23 -- Connected to Mother Earth 07:59 -- Importance of Traditions 10:00 -- Labels & Society 11:07 -- Diminishing Social Stigmas 12:22 -- 7 Sacred Rites of the Lakota Tribe 14:08 -- Learning to Live with the Planet 14:46 -- How can Business Help the World Heal 15:44 -- Making the World a Better Place 17:28 -- The Possibility of Ending Human Suffering 18:25 -- 5 Years 19:47 -- Reservation Conditions 20:27 -- Personal Mantra 21:43 -- Legacy 22:19 -- Final Thoughts on the State of Humanity 23:17 -- Information on Tribes in S. Bill's recording of Amazing Grace reached the top of the MP3.com charts as an EP in the mid-1990s and was subsequently selected for inclusion in the permanent archive of the Library of Congress. His first full-length solo album, consisting of improvised-in-the-moment single-take original piano solos, was released in 1999 and was followed in the late 2000s by a collaborative, improvised album of music for piano, Tibetan bowls, and wooden flutes. His "Performed for You" series on YouTube continues this tradition of innovative recordings. Bill's experiences playing for audiences in non-traditional settings combined with an insatiable curiosity about the effects of sound and rhythm on human beings culminated in the launch of a groundbreaking initiative he calls Music Care. The mission of Music Care is to remind people of their built-in ability to use emotions for good and offer proven, practical tools for our access to music as a behavioral, emotional, physical, and spiritual self-care modality. He supports this mission with individual or group education, coaching, and advising, extensive online content including a fully-mentored, gamified online course and public speaking as an advocate for evidence-based, holistic self-care. As a sideline, Bill collaborates with the San Diego Symphony to provide Veterans, Military, Guard, Reserves and their friends and families with more than 5000 no cost "honor tickets" to Symphony concerts. Bill is a living example of how music can be life-saving and life-affirming. He has run a Meetup group for people who, like himself, often think about suicide, and has taught the principles of music as self-care to people ranging from at-risk Veterans to corporate executives. I have always wanted to make a "soundtrack" of my life. I remember the first song I played on my little portable 45 record player. It was The Kingsman - Louie Louie. I was 5, so I'm guessing it was a record my mom gave me. I used to shake my head round and round and dance to that song. Fast forward to being 18 years old and in trouble. I was working at a retail clothing store and the Indigo Girls song, Closer to Fine was on repeat. That song - was hope in that time. I could go on and on....perhaps as you think back on your life, you could find your own soundtrack. What is your first music memory? Music is therapy. Be You Parenting with Mary Dravis-Parrish Self-harm, like cutting, drugs, and alcohol are on the rise with today's youth as they struggle to express emotional pain freely and in a way that isn't harmful. Some of these children have thoughts of ending their lives out of emotional hopelessness, and some tragically do. How do we as parents help our children find ways of expressing those painful emotions in a way that doesn't do them harm? Do we know what to look for? What do we need to know so that our kids have some guardrails as they experiment and explore their feelings as to what is meaningful for them? Parents often fear expressions of emotions based on their own experiences and out of wanting to keep their kids safe they don't allow their kids to freely express what's inside. But what if we could guide our kids into genuine experience of the "negative" emotions and teach them how to choose the expression of those emotions more wisely? In doing so, we learn what is in their hearts, so that they have a strong desire to live a life of meaning that is real and true for them. What a joy to have Bill Protzmann back with us to share his personal experience with finding his way through his own emotional pain. He will share ideas that will empower parents to have tools to be able to guide their children through their emotions.  The article mentioned in the show that Bill wrote can be found here. http://www.practicalheartskills.com/why-suicide/ Bill Protzmann is an entrepreneur, musician, husband, father, and proud member of the human race.
