What does it mean to leave and cleave in today's world? What happens when we don't? How can you make sure you have a well-spent summer? For today's episode, Stephanie has curated three of her most important not-so-secret secrets for a successful summer in particular, and a successful life in general: - Read your Bible to grow closer to the Lord and develop intimacy with Him; - Don't compare to others, but seek to serve them in humility; - Take time to rest, worship, and laugh. For each of these, Stephanie welcomes a dear friend to highlight each element today. So you're getting THREE conversations in this one episode! It is our special Summer gift to you, our beloved audience. First Stephanie welcomes Shadia Hrichi who shares with us her own journey towards deep intimacy with God. They discuss Hagar, a very special woman in the Bible who gets to give God one of His names - "the God who sees me." They also mostly focus on Tamar, whose powerful story of brokenness is redeemed by the only One who is able to deliver us from our bondage, fear, and trials. Do you need to be reminded that God is FOR you? You are not alone, and He is in every detail of your life. He is especially attentive when things are not going as you want them to - which is probably the case for most of us right now, in this season of the world when everything seems upside down and when it might feel that God is distant! He is closer than ever to the brokenhearted. Then Stephanie welcomes Shannon Popkin who reminds us that we are all attacked by the very real enemy of our soul who seeks to distract us from the Lord. Using the same old tricks that have worked for thousands of years, the devil seeks to entice us to compare to one another because that is exactly what he did with God - he wanted to be better than God Himself. We live in a culture that tells us that, unless we are number one, we are worthless. This is deeply damaging to the very fabric of our soul. With her book "Comparison Girl", Shannon reminds us that the cure towards wholesome healing is simple - yet not easy: we are never happier than when we take our eyes off of ourselves, and focus on another. Humility and other-centered service is the simple yet overlooked secret to a fulfilling life. Jesus role-modeled it for us, and invites us to step closer to His heart through selfless humility. How simple, yet how profound! Finally, Stephanie is thrilled to welcome Marci Seither who invites you to join her for a summer of pondering the goodness of God through rest, laughter and meditation. In her new devotional, Lakeside Retreat, Marci beckons us to experience God in the daily, to embrace Him in the simple, and to delight in Him in every moment. Her book is the perfect summer getaway to come back refreshed, renewed, and more in love with God than ever. MEET MARCI SEITHER Marci Seither's writing career began after her humor article was published in a small-town newspaper. Since then she has authored two books and hundreds of articles for local papers, as well as for Guideposts, Light & Life, and Focus on the Family. She is a creative storyteller who has shared her love of stories with hundreds of schoolchildren as well as those attending one of her workshops. Besides writing, she enjoys trying new recipes, food photography, and capturing drone footage. Her biggest joy, besides being married to John for more than three and a half decades and raising six kids, is being grandma to six of the cutest kiddos in this hemisphere. Marci makes her home in the Nashville, Tennessee, area with John and their very spoiled miniature schnauzer—Pepper. website: http://marciseither.com/ Social Media: https://www.facebook.com/marci.seither Instagram @marci_seither MEET SHANNON POPKIN Shannon Popkin is a writer, speaker, and Bible teacher who loves to blend her gifts for storytelling and humor with her passion for Jesus. Shannon regularly speaks at Christian women's events and retreats, inviting women to live like God's Word is true. Shannon is the author of Comparison Girl: Lessons from Jesus on MeFree Living in a Measure-Up World, Control Girl: Lessons on Surrendering Your Burden of Control from Seven Women in the Bible, and co-author of Influence (Building a Platform That Elevates Jesus (Not Me). On today's episode, Curtis talks to Dr. Leslie Heaphy, who teaches sports history at Kent State University and has contributed to several books, including The Encyclopedia of Women in Baseball. Their topic today is the history of women in baseball, specifically Black baseball. The conversation starts with a broad history of women in the game, as spectators, reporters, and players, before moving on to the Negro Leagues, where Dr. Heaphy talks about some of the women who played the game, owned the teams, and helped run the leagues. They touch on Effa Manley, who is currently the only woman in the Baseball Hall of Fame, and discuss the difficulties of researching this topic. You can read Dr. Heaphy's piece on women in Black baseball on Baseball Reference: https://www.baseball-reference.com/articles/women-in-the-negro-leagues-leslie-heaphy.shtml Also, congratulations to DOCTOR Curtis Harris on successfully defending his dissertation this week!

Get ready to hear from one of the most inspiring and insightful beings I have even met! Stephanie Woollard began Seven Women at age 22 after meeting seven disabled women working in a tin shed in Kathmandu. These seven women were struggling to make a living in the face of harsh discrimination. 15 years on and over 5,500 women have been educated, trained and employed by Seven Women, providing the tools to lift themselves out of poverty. Stephanie has been internationally recognised with numerous global awards including the UN Rotary International Responsible Business Award and more recently the Order of Australia. Seven Women is dedicated to Empowering disabled and marginalised women in Nepal through drawing out their human potential. Steph shares insights on her belief that to making real and lasting change, is about drawing out the full potential in others; starting with oneself. It was a true honour and privilege to speak, connect and learn from this inspirational lady, who is no where near finished in providing help, support and value to the world. Delighted to catch up for a chat with Zara - having met her last year we've kept in touch and I've been in awe discovering just the range and breadth of this girls talent. A Glasgow girl who studied Business initially, Zara puts the "multi" into "multi-hyphen" and over the years has been a presenter at STV, a producer on Loose Women, been shortlisted as a New Voice Talent on BBC Radio London, produced and presented the podcast series Ask for More (where we first met) and has recently produced an incredible documentary Seven Women, highlighting the work they are doing to empower women in Nepal. We caught up over Zoom, and live-streamed the recording to the EGG Facebook group - me in North Berwick and Zara in Streatham! We discussed lots; the influence of our Dads on our early careers, the beauty of having a multi-hyphen career, as well as just a few of Zara's exciting new projects - she really is one to watch. @tvzaraj https://www.zarajanjua.com
Friend to Friend: Hope for your Heart and Help from His Word
Bonus Episode | Today, March the 8th, women across the world will recognize International Women’s Day. A day largely devoted to promoting women’s rights and equality. I am thankful for the right to vote, respect for women in the workplace and the ability to be heard. But I’m also careful to recognize that lies can be wrapped in truth and what some see as good intentions to bring about change can easily lead to great sin when not grounded in the truth of God’s Word. As a born-again Christian woman, I choose to celebrate today who I am in Christ: A daughter of the King, a City set on a hill, a Voice for My Savior, A Help-Meet, A Mother, Daughter, Sister and Friend. I am seen, known and loved by the One who most matters. In Today’s episode, “Yet Not I But Christ: The Phenomenal Stories of Fanny Crosby and the Little Servant Girl”, my guest, Wendy Burks, shares the stories of two women who’s lives said, “Not I, but Christ.” Two women who’s influence still reaches us today - the influence of the Gospel, and that, my friend, is a legacy of womanhood worth celebrating! Eric Metaxas fires on a lot of creative pistons. He writes like a dream, has a knack for distilling a thousand historical facts and personal details both in his fine books (see below) and on his popular nationally syndicated radio show The Eric Metaxas Show, and also has a rapier-like wit. He also spoke with amiable confidence about his now famous biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer at the National Prayer Breakfast a few steps away from President Obama. A strange but impressive mashup if there ever was one. I hate him. Okay, back to my show notes. I had interviewed Eric a few years back about his book Seven Women and the Secret of Their Greatness, and remembered vividly his considerable raconteur skills. Then he caught my attention again with an embarrassingly glowing tweet about my Really Controversial Interview with Milo Yiannopoulos the other week. That was it. With a weakness for public praise by intelligent people, I had to hear more. Within hours, the interview you are about to enjoy was set. We talked about the way his new book Donald Drains the Swamp fuses adult non-fiction with children’s fiction, and about the knack with which both Mr. Trump and Mr. Yiannopoulos force onlookers to drop their masks—fast. Pound for pound, I’d say this is the most eclectic of the 103 episodes of The Patrick Coffin Show so far. Per my other Really Controversial Interview with Jordan Peterson, I went Full Metal Catholic and asked the Greek Orthodox cum Evangelical Christian Eric to finish the sentence, “I’m not Catholic, because…” Let me guess. Other times, you hear a story of someone doing something good and you are torn between being amazed and feeling guilty for not having done more. Stephanie Woollard, a Rotarian from Melbourne Australia will receive the Rotary Responsible Business Award at the United Nations on Saturday, November 12, 2016. A Rotary statement says, “In the last 10 years, Seven Women has trained and employed more than 1,000 disadvantaged women in Kathmandu and remote villages of Nepal and impacted 5,000 women through outreach programs.” To better understand how this came about, I asked her how she got started. “As a young girl touring the world like many of us do, I was leading groups of architects to Nepal, through a tour company called Duke of Edinburgh, when I came across seven disabled women operating in a tin shed in the backstreets of Kathmandu. I saw these women were living in dirt, poverty stricken and unable to make an income. I heard their stories of social isolation and struggle because of reasons they could not change and I felt their pain and suffering.” You’re probably like me. After seeing this, I would have shaken my head and said, what a tragedy, before heading on my way. Stephanie did something else. --------------- Read the full Your Mark on the World article and watch the interview here: http://bit.ly/2fhLTp8. Need a corporate social responsibility speaker?
