Mark Newton, Global Head of Technical Strategy at Fundstrat Global Advisors, expects the market to go through a brief correction after the election, but to have turned that into a buying opportunity by the time December rolls around, bringing with it a Santa Claus rally to end the year. Newton says that for all of the worries investors have about the market, the numbers remain solid and while it may not support continued gains like we have seen in the last two years, it should keep the market from a major, protracted downturn. John Cole Scott, President of Closed-End Fund Advisors digs into his firm's data to break down a stellar third quarter for closed-end funds, which saw a significant narrowing of discounts but where he still sees buying opportunities now. James Abate, Chief Investment Officer at Centre Funds — manager of the Centre Global Infrastructure Fund, the top-performing fund in its peer group year-to-date — talks infrastructure investing in The Market Call, and Chuck talks about how the trick-or-treaters at his house on Halloween took to deciding between cash or candy in his annual trade-or-treat challenge.

Bill Adams, chief economist at Comerica Bank says that the economy is not headed toward a significant downturn felt across many sectors of the economy, showing up in declining incomes and employment and it lasts for several quarters. While he sees slow growth and a few other issues, Adams believes the Federal Reserve has done enough to avoid a recession, and expects the central bank to wait at least one more meeting before having a rate hike in November to help play out the policies it has been pursuing to reduce inflation. Mark Newton, global head of technical strategy at Fundstrat Global Advisors also sees the market and economy riding out a few years down the road before there is any recession; Newton expects investors to be able to make money this year and next before he sees a bear market ending the rally. In the latest installment of 'Find Me The Money,' forensic accountant Tracy Coenen discusses how earnings discrepancies and career moves make it imperative for women to get their share of a couple's retirement savings -- even if it means giving up the house -- to avoid becoming a statistic about poor lifetime savings. Thomas Lee is Managing Partner and Head of Research at Fundstrat Global Advisors. In this interview, the well-known Wall Street bull shares the three reasons why he's even MORE bullish on the S&P 500 now than he was before. He also explains what fueled his recent “tactical buy” call, a call the likes of which he hasn't issued in more than 10 years. As for the fundamentals, Tom says the expectation that S&P 500 earnings will drop 7%-plus in Q2 is both overly pessimistic and skewed by one factor. He notes that the current rally will be longer than the preceding decline if it continues through July 26, making the “bear market rally” moniker invalid. And he shares why he still likes Big Tech, what three catalysts should power industrials, and why one lagging sector should finally find its footing.

Larry Adam, chief investment officer at Raymond James, says the economy is going through a series of rotating, mini-recessions affecting certain industries, which will lead to a modest recession in the middle of the year, but once but that happens he expects interest rates to start falling, inflation to keep slowing and the Federal Reserve ending its tightening cycle, he expects price/earnings multiples to expand which should help markets go higher. Mark Newton, global head of technical strategy at Fundstrat Global Advisors, is equally optimistic in the Talking Technicals segment, saying he expects the Standard and Poor's 500 Index to end the year up more than 15 percent near 4,500, with technical indicators suggesting to him that the worst is over and that the market bottomed out in October of 2022. In The Market Call, Tom Graff, head of investments at Facet Wealth, discusses altering ETF portfolios to reflect coming changes in inflation, interest rates and more.
Raging inflation, spiking interest rates & geopolitical disruption made 2022 a bruising year for stocks & bonds. All three of those issues remain factors here at the start of 2023 Which is why perhaps it's little surprise many of the recent experts appearing on this program have urged caution for investors looking at the year ahead. But a growing number of Wealthion's viewers are saying: "OK, we understand the reasons for pessimism. But what do the bulls think? Is there an optimistic argument to be made?" The answer is "yes" and today's guest expert gives us the opportunity to hear that side of the story. Tom Lee, Managing Partner and Head of Research at Fundstrat Global Advisors, is often referred to as "the biggest bull on Wall Street". He forecasts the S&P is poised to rise 20% in 2023. ************************************************* At Wealthion, we show you how to protect and build your wealth by learning from the world's top experts on finance and money. Mark Newton, global head of technical strategy, Fundstrat Global Advisors, says that a healthy consumer and a market that has solid economic footing should lead to "a recession with a small R and not a capital R." Newtons says his models show a market bottoming out in July before turning significantly higher in September, thanks largely to higher interest rates already being baked into the market's expectations. Newton says that the bear market has been in process for months, even if it was only just recognized by the media; the result is that a lot of damage was done before the headlines were made, increasing the likelihood that we are closer to the bottom than the start of trouble. Also on the show, Peter Crane of Crane Data -- publisher of Money Fund Intelligence -- talks about how rising interest rates have made money-market funds more attractive than they have been in over a decade, despite yields in the 1 percent range, Catherine Collinson discusses the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies 2022 Retirement Study released today showing Americans' changing attitudes about the working conditions they want and more, and Marten Carlson, lead reviewer at Mattress Clarity, talks about sleeping for a month on the "cheapest mattress" sold on Amazon in answer to a popular consumer search, and what buyers should know to ensure they get a good deal and a good night's rest.

The FOMC minutes sent stocks lower and major averages posted 2-day losing streaks. Josh Brown from Ritholtz Wealth Management and Tom Lee from Fundstrat Global Advisors discuss how investors should navigate the Fed's next moves. Also on the show, Chuck talks about setting goals -- and how New Year's target setting for 2022 should be more short-term focused than it has been over the last few years -- and we revisit a recent chat with Liz Ann Sonders, chief investment strategist at Charles Schwab & Co..

When the stock market was in free fall back in March, Fundstrat Global Advisors founder Tom Lee made the bold call of a 25% rally by April. He was right. After that, he predicted a 50% recovery of the losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic would signal an “all-clear” that would accelerate gains to push the S&P 500 back near all-time highs. So far, he’s been right again and Friday’s surprisingly strong job report that showed U.S. payrolls unexpectedly added 2.

In a new interview with Nasdaq, Lee says he stands by his view that the BTC price will hit $40,000 before the Dow Jones hits 40,000. When asked if Bitcoin will hit $500,000, Lee says he believes a 4,900% increase is possible based on the number of users that ultimately join the network. “I think in the long term it’s possible because today Bitcoin’s transaction activity is twice that of PayPal, 7x the Discover network. It’s the second-largest transaction network after Visa, and there’s four billion Visa card holders. So if you get to five million Bitcoin users, it’s almost 100x increase in price.”

Robert Sluymer has been a Technical Analyst for close to 3 decades. I really enjoy his intermarket, global macro perspective and the way he brings it all together in a similar way to what we do at our shop. It was hard for me to really disagree with anything Rob said during this podcast episode. It seems to me like him and I are on the same page on many levels. I didn't make it easy on him, but he certainly brought the goods. I really enjoyed this episode from someone who brings 27 years of institutional experience at RBC and is now at an independent shop at Fundstrat. We discussed Bitcoin, the S&P500, Sector Rotation, Bonds and Precious Metals. This was a good one! Give it a listen Click here return to the episode page

Tom Lee is one of the great luminaries of crypto and finance Twitter. The former chief equity analyst at JP Morgan made headlines during the bitcoin boom of 2017 with his calls that the cryptocurrency would soar to it's price target of $25,000. Fast forward to today; Lee isn't making anymore price targets on bitcoin but he still makes calls on the market -- leading Fundstrat, a market research shop covering both equities and crypto. On this episode of The Scoop, Lee shared his thoughts on how the research business has evolved over the last 2 decades, why he doesn't think bitcoin is a macro-hedge and the largest roadblocks keeping big investors out of the market. We hope you enjoy the episode.
