THE RUBY FREEMAN - SHAY MOSS STORY and THREE OF THE GEORGIA 18. Of all of the Georgia 18 and all the charges, the three that hit me in the gut were the defendants charged with harassing election workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shay Moss. After all my years of working with election officials and covering election day stories, the Election Worker holds a special place in the democratic process and my heart. It's a thankless job, but thank goodness they do it. The horror stories Freeman and Moss told to the January 6 Committee were heartbreaking. The two Georgia Women were wrongly accused by Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani of stuffing ballot boxes and passing around illegal USB Drives.  Then the death threats followed. Giuliani has already admitted, under oath, that he has NO Evidence that they did anything wrong. Harrison Floyd, Trevian Kutti, and Stephen Lee are three people who attempted to confront the two election workers physically. The trio are accused of Racketeering, Conspiracy to Commit Solicitation of False Statements and Writings, and Influencing Witnesses. Lee is also accused of Criminal Attempt to Commit Influencing Witnesses and Criminal Attempt to Commit Influencing Witnesses. Of course, they are innocent until proven guilty. Please Subscribe.

When Editor Sue Collins, of several Lifestyle Publications, was first introduced to fly fishing, it was to gain knowledge before writing an article. That experience was so motivating that she picked up a fly rod and has not looked back since. Now Sue, a fellow member of Georgia Women’s Fly Fishers is out on the water as much as she can. Today we talk with Sue about what she has learned. Guest: Sue Collins Website: www.lifestylepubs.com Social Media: Instagram Bio: Sue Collins is an Atlanta-based magazine editor and travel writer. She hails from Michigan and graduated from University of Oregon, later around the world with her husband who was a sailmaker. Together, they have three grown children (and a beautiful 1-year old grandson) and have lived in for Atlanta 10 years. Sue studied marine biology, until she realized chemistry and numbers were not her strength. She’s always loved being on and under the water, sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkeling and swimming where ever her journey took her. Her first time with a fly rod was on the Provo River outside Park City, Utah. Since then, she’s fished north Georgia’s creeks and rivers and looks forward to fishing during the summer in northern Michigan where her family has spent summers for four generations. Sue joined Georgia Women Fly Fishers last year, got her first fly rod for Christmas and practices casting in the downtown Atlanta park near her house and tries to fish whenever she can.       This is Fly Girl Fish episode 046, first aired on 07/22/2020.

Katie Smithson picks her battles. Even well-meaning colleagues occasionally make insulting or offensive comments, and a professional woman has to decide what she can brush off and what she simply cannot accept. Though the lines can be blurry, nine years in the industry have taught Katie how to establish boundaries and present herself as a professional. Katie grew up in Franklin, Tennessee, and went to school at Tennessee Technological University. Discouraged by the boys’ club that was electrical engineering, she changed her plans and pursued a degree in marketing. Her first foray into sales and customer service was at a Sprint/Nextel store back in Franklin, where she saw the first MLS searches on a Blackberry. After a move to Knoxville, Katie worked in marketing for a local mortgage company that happened to use CRS Data for tax purposes. Tired of spending her days in a cubicle, she noticed an opening for a trainer at CRS. Katie won them over and secured her first job in real estate. After four years working with agents, realtors and MLS execs to implement the use of CRS products, Katie had a conversation with Greg in a lobby bar at CMLS Boston, and the rest is history. She has worked at W+R Studios for five years, serving as Director of MLS Services since 2016.  Today she shares the details of her activism through the Georgia Women’s Policy Institute, the challenges for women in the real estate industry, and her advice around establishing professional boundaries.  What’s Discussed:  Why Katie gave up on electrical engineering to pursue a marketing degree  Katie’s early sales and customer service experience at Sprint/Nextel How Katie got involved with the real estate industry Katie’s role as Director of MLS Services at W+R Studios The shift from training to sales Katie’s work with the Georgia Women’s Policy Institute - Issues affecting women, children - Get in front of legislators  The challenges for women in the real estate industry How Katie establishes boundaries as a professional woman The complications of alcohol as part of industry culture How Katie’s reputation in the industry has improved her experience with sexism Katie’s advice for women coming up in the industry - Keep your head on straight - Maintain professionalism  - Have a buddy The challenge of dressing appropriately for women in a business environment Katie’s recommendations around resources for sales executives Resources: CRS Data Arianna Huffington on Repeating Outfits ‘The Rock’ Test for Sexual Harassment  Inc. Jill Stuckey is the Director of the Georgia Center of Innovation for Energy, affiliated with the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority (GEFA), where she previously served as the state’s Director of Alternative Fuels. The Georgia Center of Innovation program is housed in the Georgia Department of Economic Development, to align the program’s unique resources and capabilities with growing the state’s strategic industries. The Center of Innovation for Energy was established by Governor Sonny Perdue in April 2008. The mission of the COI-Energy is to expand the production and use of renewable energy and alternative fuels in Georgia. Since Ms. Stuckey’s appointment to this position by the Governor, Georgia has announced billions of dollars and hundreds of newly created jobs in renewable energy and alternative fuel projects. Jill Stuckey started her career at Triangle, Inc., where she became part owner and built one of the largest fuel maintenance companies in the state. She traded private industry for state employment when she sold her company interest in 1992 and went to work for the Environmental Protection Division, Underground Storage Tank Program. During her tenure, Stuckey developed the concept of combining all state owned fuel tanks into one agency’s control – the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority. At GEFA, she was able to save the state more than $100 million dollars in environmental remediation and capital costs by implementing her ideas. Her focus then turned to alternative fuels, in which she worked to develop fueling infrastructure and guide business owners interested in locating or expanding alternative fuels companies in Georgia. Jill earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio University. In addition to her role at COI-Energy, Jill Stuckey sits as a board member on the following organizations: Plains Better Hometown Program, Friends of the Georgia Archives and the Georgia Women of Achievement.
