My friends Neal and Rhonda Harrington join me on the podcast today to share the story of their 19-year-old son Adam, who was killed by a lightning strike in August of 2006. Adam was jogging at the high school track with his granddaddy when the incident happened, and in that split second of time, the Harringtons' lives were forever changed. In today's episode, they share who Adam was, the story of what happened and its immediate aftermath, the sovereignty of God in a situation like this, and some of what they've learned over the past 17 years since Adam's homegoing. They have a lot of wisdom to share about how we can "live forward" after child loss, and I believe you'll be encouraged by our conversation. Then be sure and come back next week as we extend our discussion to include some very practical insight into living life as a bereaved parent. You can follow Rhonda's blog by clicking HERE. Eight-year-old Gretchen Harrington leaves home, walking to vacation bible school at a church just a half mile from her home. Usually, Gretchen is accompanied by her two sisters, but this day, she walks alone. The older girls stay home. It was just after 9 a.m. when Pastor Harold Harrington waved goodbye. Two hours passed before he found out Gretchen never made it to VBS. Hundreds of people took part in the search for the little girl. A police helicopter continuously flew overhead. Teams of searchers combed the hillside of the community. Friends and family hand out fliers with Gretchen's picture on it. Some witnesses said they had seen Gretchen outside a car, talking to someone, but nothing came of the lead. Two months later, a jogger found the skeletonized human remains of a little girl. The Harringtons confirmed the clothing found with the body as Gretchen's. It was only 20 minutes from her home. Gretchen's manner of death is ruled a homicide. The girl's skull has been fractured by multiple vicious blows. An autopsy does not reveal sex assault, but police believe that was the motive. Now, years later, a new book leads to the capture of a murderer. The Harringtons, a typical all-American dysfunctional family, are on their way to a Christmas get-together when they are beset by a barrage of strange occurrences. A ghostly woman in white appears seemingly out of nowhere, they find themselves followed by a hearse, and worst of all, the long stretch of road they're on leads to nowhere. 2003's DEAD END is often called a feature-length episode of “The Twilight Zone” and it's easy to see where those conclusions are drawn. It's a strange little movie filled with strange characters and strange circumstances. Though it has become something of a cult classic, I find it a little tedious, despite its short running time. For me, the movie's saving grace is the performance by veteran character actress Lin Shaye, who is always fun to watch, no matter how good or bad the movie is. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/blindragepod/message

From CarPlay to coaches, this week's Car-Chum podcast has it all. How about robotised manual gearboxes from Saab (the Sensonic, remember them?), a daily driving Model T and a Golf GTI chase with a 1950s Bristol? Yep. All of that, too. Ferraris, fat Lexuses and Dacias all duke it out for a coveted page on this year's Car-Chum Calendar.
On this week's edition of the podcast we round up another busy shift for the Irish around the tours with Stephanie Meadow's latest LPGA Tour survival act receiving top billing. The Jordanstown pro left it late to sneak back inside the top-100 on the Race to CME Globe on the number at 100, thus ensuring her full LPGA Tour card for next year. Where Meadow revelled in the finish, Leona Maguire was left to rue a closing 76 having bolted to the first round lead. It was also a case of what might've been for Padraig Harrington who narrowly missed out on this week's DP World Tour Championship. Remarkably, world number one Jon Rahm is among those opting out of the Dubai curtain closer. We discuss where that leaves the European Tour in the pecking order of the game's elite. There was also the small matter of Bernard Langer defying his age and the odds to claim another Champions Tour Order of Merit title. As ever, we hope you enjoy the listen. Don't forget to subscribe and let us know what you think.

It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. TESLA ENDS REFERRAL PROGRAM "Tesla has officially ended its Referral Program, which provides owners with Supercharging miles and the opportunity to earn other rewards." "The referral program applied to any vehicle and solar panel purchases and would provide both the customer and Tesla with advantages. Owners were able to work their way up to cool prizes like a next-gen Tesla Roadster, drives in the Tesla Semi, and of course, 1,000 free Supercharging miles when a vehicle was purchased using their referral code" "On the company's website, Tesla said: “As of September 18, 2021, vehicle products, and solar panels are no longer eligible for Referral awards.” Tesla owners who still have Supercharging miles will be able to use them. Unfortunately, due to the termination of the program, no more miles will be earned through referrals." "Tesla's demand has skyrocketed to the point that some vehicles are sold out for the rest of the year. While it is advantageous for customers to earn rewards for helping Tesla sell cars and other products, there comes a point where it becomes a financial liability, and perhaps it has reached that point" Mashable says: "Tesla's referral program has changed over the years and was completely decimated in 2019. When it returned, it was a shadow of its former self with pared-back rewards. The company used to throw in extra gifts like toy Teslas for kids and Elon Musk-signed wall connectors." Source: https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-referral-program-cancelled/ Source: https://mashable.com/article/tesla-referral-program-ends TESLA FSD BETA BUTTON TO RELEASE SEPT. 24—BUT ONLY TO GOOD DRIVERS "Tesla owners in the United States will only have to wait for another week to get the Tesla FSD button." "The Tesla boss went on to tweet that the request button for the Tesla FSD is rolling out next Friday, or on Sept. 24 to be exact. It is worth noting that Musk often announces that the FSD button is coming in two weeks, but it gets moved to another date. However, things must have changed by this time as the EV giant exec now boasted a one-week waiting time" "Musk further said that the software for the button is supposed to be out by now to a wider range of users. However, Tesla is still fixing some final touches to avoid bugs from ruining the rollout of the FSD Beta." "Musk further explained on Twitter that the upcoming FSD button will only request permission to access the driving behavior of the user in the next seven days via the insurance calculator of the EV giant. Such a process is in place to ensure that only the drivers with good behavior will get to use the wider release of the FSD feature." https://www.techtimes.com/articles/265500/20210917/elon-musk-tesla-fsd-beta-button-to-release-sept-24%E2%80%94but-only-to-good-drivers.htm BYD PLUG-IN CAR SALES SURGE TO OVER 60,000 IN AUGUST 2021 "In August, BYD set its third consecutive monthly passenger plug-in car sales record in China, reaching an amazing level of 60,508 units (up 332% year-over-year). That's over 10,000 more than in July and over 20,000 more than in June." "According to the data of EV Sales, in July 2021, BYD returned to the top of the global NEV sales in a single month after 26 months, surpassing Volkswagen to claim third place in terms of cumulative sales from January to July." "So far in 2021, the company sold in China over 260,000 plugs-in (up 206% year-over-year), which means that it already is the best year in the company's history." JAY LENO SAYS, ‘THE ELECTRIC CAR IS HERE TO STAY' "Jay Leno gave CNBC's “The News with Shepard Smith” an optimistic outlook when it comes to the future of electric cars, despite the latest warning from General Motors to owners of some Chevy Bolts, advising them not to park within 50 feet of other cars. GM's latest warning follows the Detroit automaker recalling more than 140,000 of the EVs produced since 2016 due to the risk of batteries spontaneously catching fire from “two rare manufacturing defects.”" “The last days of old technology are always better than the first days of new technology, but we're beyond the first days of new technology,” said Leno, the host of CNBC's “Jay Leno's Garage.” “I mean, the electric car is here to stay. I predict a child born today will probably drive in a gasoline powered car about as often as you would drive in a car with a stick shift now.”" https://www.cnbc.com/2021/09/16/jay-leno-says-electric-car-is-here-to-stay-despite-chevy-bolt-recalls.html DRIVERS FACE YEAR'S WAIT FOR ELECTRIC CARS AHEAD OF ULEZ EXPANSION "Drivers hoping to go electric before the ultra low emission zone expansion next month face waiting lists of up to a year for new vehicles. Demand for battery electric vehicles has increased by more than 30 per cent in the past year but a global shortage of semiconductors has meant manufacturers are struggling to meet demand." "Most petrol cars made since 2005 and diesel cars since September 2015 will have engines that comply with the ULEZ, and Mr Khan has advised Londoners to switch to a compliant second-hand vehicle. But used car dealerships are also reporting a “massive” increase in demand for Ulez-compliant cars, with prices soaring and stock issues at some dealers." "On the rush for compliant cars, Rupert Moylett, director of Harringtons of Fulham, said: “We've had one of our best past three months in quite a long time, as everyone is trying to get rid of their diesels." Source: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/cop26-electric-cars-ulez-expansion-drivers-b955933.html SINCLAIR C5: THE HISTORY OF SIR CLIVE SINCLAIR'S ELECTRIC CAR "The Sinclair C5 arrived in 1985 with a level of accompanying hype that would surely have impressed a then fourteen-year-old Elon Musk, but this brainchild of one of Britain's most famous tech entrepreneurs crashed spectacularly soon after launch." "Sir Clive, whose death at the age of 81 was announced on 16 Sept 2021, was lauded in the 1980s as the inventor of the first pocket calculator and the ground-breaking ZX81 and ZX Spectrum home computers. The tech tycoon had a deep interest in electric transport and founded Sinclair Vehicles in 1983 on the back of his earlier commercial successes." "The company's first and only production vehicle was the Sinclair C5, an innovative three-wheeler with a polypropylene body designed by Lotus, manufactured at the Hoover washing machine factory in Merthyr Tidfil. The C5 was launched with great fanfare in January 1985 in London - and the project went downhill from there.". Anna Jones explores the challenges facing family farms in the American Midwest and the outback of Australia, and discovers how Millennial farmers are embracing change to ensure their survival. In Iowa, Anna meets two young corn and soybean growers - Brandon Pickard, 28, and Wade Dooley, 35. Both are struggling to make a living from poor grain prices but coming up with very different ways of earning extra income. Pork or popcorn anyone? In North West Queensland, Anna heads to a remote cattle station to meet a family that believes digital technology is the key to their future. The Harringtons run 2,000 cattle on 44,000 acres but it is not big enough to support two families. William Harrington, the fourth generation, had to try something new in order stay in the family business, so he invented a surveillance camera that monitors water troughs – saving farmers huge amounts of time and money. William's electronics are now more profitable than the cattle. But some things on a cattle station never change – it's mustering season and Anna finds herself in the thick of the action. This week we caught up with the founder of Cryermalt, David Cryer, as he celebrates 25 years of malt trading. As our first time chatting with David on Radio Brews News, he shares with us his history and experiences, and reflects on his 25 years with Cryer Malt while giving us an exciting look forward with things to come. David Cryer formed Cryermalt in the very early days of the craft beer scene in New Zealand, when microbreweries such as Emerson's and Harringtons were just starting out. Recognising the limited selection of malts available in NZ at the time, David endeavoured to supply new breweries with a range of high quality specialty malts.
