This week on America's Podcast, the gang is back with Guest Travis Perrotta to take a deep dive into the slippery world of Saigon Kick's iconic album The Lizard. Was Matt Kramer the best vocalist for them? Or was he just the lizard king who could do anything? These burning questions are tackled with the kind of wit and wisdom you'd expect from a group who likely argued over the pronunciation of "Saigon" for at least ten minutes before recording. Tracks of the Week brought the heat: Marc shook things up with Shake the Tree by INXS, proving that even Aussie pop-rock can branch out. Mooger got introspective with Rain Will Fall by I Mother Earth—because what's a podcast without at least one guy going existential? Travis lit it up with Burning Like a Flame—clearly a man who's ready to burn his way into the power ballad hall of fame. And Jerry blacked out entirely, choosing Black Out In The Red Room by Love/Hate, a song so wild it should come with a warning label. As always, they sign off with a classic gem of wisdom: "Play in the sun like a lizard!" Because if The Lizard taught us anything, it's that rock 'n' roll is best served sunbaked, slightly sweaty, and maybe a little weird. See you next week, podcast pals!

Today's guest makes me feel heavy. If you're a fan of I Mother Earth, that'll make sense to you. My guest is Edwin, I Mother Earth's lead singer. This was such a great discussion, a long time in the making. Edwin talks about growing up in a pretty strict household where his first musical instrument was…the accordion. After ditching that, he started singing in cover bands, playing classic rock like Kansas & Journey. I don't know about you but I'd love to hear the Edwin rendition of Don't Stop Believin'! He met Jag Tanna from IME after moving back to Toronto from LA. Edwin talks about the really early days of IME when the initials didn't stand for I Mother Earth yet. Their early shows were more like events, built to keep people coming back. It worked and he reveals some wild facts about their first demos.  Edwin is incredibly candid about why he left the band and how it affected him. He talks about what got him writing music again and how he started his solo career. We discuss all the ups and downs of his work post I Mother Earth, including how the supergroup Crash Karma came about, after a bit of sleight of hand by one of the members. Edwin tells me exactly how the reunion with I Mother Earth came about, the one-off show that kind of became the reformation of the band, including some strange shows with both IME singers. And Edwin breaks a bit of news about going into the studio with I Mother Earth to write new music this month. Follow Edwin on Facebook at Edwin Edwin and on Instagram @edwin99999. I Mother Earth's account is @imotherearth. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on socials. Grab merch at performanceanx.threadless.com. Send coffee money at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Prior to 2021, former members of Canadian rock band The Mailman's Children joined forces with other artists to record 23 original songs. At the top of 2021, the newly formed Pop Rock band surfaced as Hello Fiasco.Hello Fiasco is considered Canadian-American because its frontman Eric LaBossiere (born Canadian) lives in Helena, Montana (USA). The rest of the band lives in Winnipeg, including Joel Couture (bass), Joel Perreault (lead guitars/backing vocals), Ivan Burke (drums), and Guy Abraham (keys/Ableton/backing vocals). Since its official release this summer, the band's debut album "Find The Shoreline" has earned 3,000,000 streams, and been placed on over 6,000 Spotify playlists. The album's first single, “Hold Me Close” has earned 700,000 streams, and 190,000 views on the official YouTube video, and the song is currently receiving XM, terrestrial, internet, Cable and TV radio airplay in over 25 countries. The album itself was co-produced by both LaBossiere and award-winning producer John Paul Peters (Propagandhi, Comeback Kid, Faouzia, Cancer Bats, Begonia). Notably, the album was mastered by American Grammy-winning engineer Randy Merrill of Sterling Sound (Imagine Dragons, Cage The Elephant, Muse, Bieber, Adele, Lady Gaga). Because the band prides itself on coming from the side of Pop Rock where the quality of lyrics, music and originality still stands for something, HF has been compared to Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and David Bowie. HF's first performances include a sold-out headlining show at Canada's renowned Festival du Voyageur, as well as an opening slot for The Watchmen, I Mother Earth and Bif Naked at Winnipeg's Burt Block Party. The band is currently in the process of scheduling its first North American tour dates for 2023. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Our guest this week is Toronto-based Juno-winning vocalist, songwriter, director, music marketing specialist and Syrian-Canadian - SALLY SHAAR! Sally studied with Canadian vocal legends Christine Duncan, Lorraine Lawson, Falconer Abraham, and Micah Barnes.  She has such an amazing voice and she's constantly pushing the boundaries of her voice both on stage and in the studio. Through her studies at Humber College's music program and an unfortunate bout of tonsillitis, Sally has become a veritable expert on vocal health and recovery.  Sally is a founding member of the alternative rock band MONOWHALES.  They recently won a 2022 Juno for Breakthrough Group of the Year!  Sally has been the creative force behind numerous music videos, photos, and online marketing campaigns for the band.  That's right, Sally's ingenuity and forward-thinking approach to music marketing has helped MONOWHALES establish themselves as one of the most exciting new bands in Canada and the WORLD!  MONOWHALES' 2019 single RWLYD (Really Wanna Let You Down) broke the record for the highest-charting single by an unsigned Canadian band when it hit number two on the Mediabase Canada Alternative Rock Chart. They released their latest album DAYTONA BLEACH in early 2021 which included RWLYD along with Top 10 singles ALL OR NOTHING and OUT WITH THE OLD.  By the way, OUT WITH THE OLD has over 1 million streams on Spotify! Sally is no stranger to the stage, she has toured extensively with MONOWHALES.  Performances include Reeperbahn in Hamburg, Germany, Canadian Music Week in Toronto, Canada, Festival d'ete in Quebec City, Canada and Yellowknife PRIDE.  MONOWHALES has played in support of artists including K Flay, Our Lady Peace, Death From Above 1979, Marianas Trench, Sloan, I Mother Earth and many more. MONOWHALES were just on a cross-Canada tour with indie-rock band Mother Mother and they have a new album slated for release Fall of 2022. 25 years ago our hosts Chris Machete and Brenton on Tour released an album with our band Mr. Machete called "Stuff." This week our former bandmate and co-founder DENT joins to reflect on the making of the album and all the fun leading into that amazing time in our lives. Plus, we are joined by some guests including Mike Bryant (Shadwell's Jacket/Nanochrist) who produced our first demo, Christen Latham our first superfan and avid supporter, Dale Harrison ( Former drummer of Headstones) who played on a few tracks and shared the stage when we opened for Headstones on many occasions and Marc Garniss (I Hate Sally/KPP Productions) who reflects on all the shows we played together. Our band Mr.Machete shared the stage with Sum 41, Protest the Hero, I Mother Earth, Matthew Good, Headstones and more throughout our career. Our live shows and punk/metal mix influence had a small but mighty influence on the local Durham Region music scene of the mid 90's. Please enjoy this fun trip down memory lane with us and maybe just maybe we will have chance to release more new music down the road!
