In this week's episode of HoopPlex, the guys discussed their NBA Awards predictions (00:30), Dr. J's All-Time teams (14:09), the Pistons and Wizards (19:42), who we want to see as future champions in AEW (37:48), what makes Monday Night Raw such a bad show (52:58), our WNBA Finals predictions (1:19:37), and the careers of the Gonzalez twins (1:28:40) and Julian Newman (1:36:33).
Before Julian Newman would be considered the best 11-year-old basketball player in the world. Before he would play varsity basketball when he was in the fifth grade. Before he leads the entire State of Florida in assists and became the youngest player ever to reach 1,000 varsity points.
It's March and you know WTF THAT MEANS!?!?! It's time for the NCAA tournament! Thankfully, Jordan still made the time to crank out an episode and talk about what it's REALLY like traveling during the Pandemic. After talking tourney, Jordan flashed back to his high school days when he ALMOST GOT ARRESTED Don't worry, Jordan isn't the only player we called out for their high school days. We talked about the WEAK COMPETITION Zion Williamson and Julian Newman played against in their high school days! Then dun dun dun…. We talked about Lamelo… He's really been going off lately. Is it too soon to say he has HALL OF FAME potential?!?! Also, have you ever wondered what other players think of him? What's the perception of Lamelo Ball around the league? Is it respect? Is it love? Is it hate? Then we switched gears by talking NBA Dunk Contest. Crazy that 2 of the contestants have been on our show before! Cassius Stanley got cheated tbh, but happy for our guy Anfernee taking home the hardware!! We couldn't go the full podcast without talking about the tournament. Jordan kept his mouth shut during this, but Tom and Spence were hyping up Jalen Suggs and Cade Cunningham. Both these guys are freaking legit and could make serious runs in March Madness Ok last thing. If you could go pro in any sport other than basketball, what would you choose. Tom is going to the MLB, Spencer is playing poker and Jordan is hopping on the PGA Tour. All right. That's a wrap. Much love fam. Go WVU in the tourney! But really hook em baby - Spencer, Jordan and Tom
It's Wednesday and you already know WTF that means. Tom and Jordan are back with another episode of Subject 2 Change. Today we had two of our favorites hop on: Cassius Stanley and Jalen Lecque! Our guys have rocked with OT for a minute. They've both done the OT Challenge so the know what Overtime is all about. We talked about the old times and the new times. We kicked things off by asking what it's been like BEING TEAMMATES for the Indiana Pacers. They both are loving life in Indianapolis, but currently are balling down in Orlando's G League Bubble. Then we started talking about life off the court. Apparently my guy Cassius is all about Gossip Girl (LMAO), while Jalen be on that Anime. It didn't take long for us to get to the good stuff however. We just straight up asked them WHO HAS MORE BOUNCE? I'm not gonna tell you what the answer was, but lets just say we can expect to see them both in the 2022 NBA Dunk Contest… There's always a point where Tom has to talk about Lamelo Ball, so you know that happened. This convo was good though cause, Cassius is actually his boy, and called us out for posting Lamelo way too much….He ain't lying. We couldn't' have these guys on the pod and not talk about the glory days, AKA High School…Cassius talked about all the famous people who would go to his games and the time when Drake, YES THAT DRAKE pulled up, but there wasn't a spot for his Rolls Royce. SMDH Jalen had a different experience in NYC and South Carolina but played against some CRAZY competition like ZION, Coby White and Tom's favorite, Devon Dotson. Oh yeah, we also talked about boxing. Cassius isn't afraid of Ryan Garci and Jalen really thinks he could have a career in fighting after basketball! Most importantly: Jordan vs Julian Newman can we get a fight date?

Take a walk down memory lane with your friends Ben & Jason and listen in to clips from our favorite episodes of 2020. Can't wait to be back with you again in 2021 with all new episodes! Highlighted in this episode: 1. Natalie Wanner shares about her experience with open marriage 2. Babita Spinelli talks about narcissism and helps Jason identify whether or not he is a narcissist 3. Julian Newman gets real about doubt, faith, and mental health 4. Friends Megan & Brandi give their response to the statement "a woman's place is in the home" 5. Ben's then college classmate and now pastor Mike VanDrie claims Ben was popular in college! Mike also talks to us about skepticism and how to handle big doubts. New episodes start January 8! We are so excited!!
Ok so what do you all want first, the good news or the bad news? I'll start with the good news cause there's A LOT of it. College hoops are ROLLING and West Virginia is 6-1 and now the #8 TEAM IN THE COUNTRY. The NBA Preseason is underway too which means LAMELO FREAKING BALL! He had 10 rebounds in his pre-season debut and followed that game up with 12 points in case you were wondering….ROTY? Tom thinks so… Also, Jake Paul somehow is like the most famous athlete in the world right now. After beating Nate Robinson, he's COMING FOR EVERYBODY and his big Bro Logan just got finalized a fight card against FLOYD MAYWEATHER?!?!? WTF???? All the juicy fight talk got us wondering what would happen if we got in the ring? Who would WIN IN A FIGHT between Jordan McCabe and Overtime Tom? SPOILER ALERT: Osh thinks it would be a pretty close fight and Jordan IS NOT HAPPY about it… That gets Tom going (which is never a good thing), and he just challenges Julian Newman to a boxing match out of nowhere, but then says he should just Fight Faze Rug instead… Then, per usual, we go off the rails… Are there aliens on earth right now? Is BILL WALTON an ALIEN? What would you do if an alien pulled up on you? Honestly, all some pretty good questions. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you the bad news didn't I? Well, no guest this week but this episode is still as vicious as Jake Paul's right hook so go listen to it and DM me if you have famous friends who wanna kick it with the Subject 2 Change Boys… PEACE Tom, Jordan and Osh

In this edition, Julian Newman, EIA's Campaigns Director, talks with Press & Communications Officer Paul Newman about how it's possible to track down the financial flows and how tackling money laundering can be a vital weapon in the fight against illegal wildlife trade by hitting major wildlife criminals where it hurts most – in their pockets. Today, we have a bonus episode for you! This is a conversation that happened in between recording our two part series on Ahmaud Arbery. Our Mocha Mamas guest, Julian Newman, shares about the third place where two truths exist, the suffering and the hope of working together in unity to create something beautiful. It is a beautiful and powerful message. We hope you enjoy!
The world was recently taken by storm when a video leaked of 25 year old Ahmaud Arbery being chased down and killed by two men (a third was filming). There was a collective outrage that this could even happen in the United States of America and that this took place over two months ago, with no arrests at the time. Mocha Mamas host, Inez, has a conversation with guest host, Julian Newman, to discuss the differences between how people have responded to this particular story vs. how they respond to the countless times we have seen similar stories before. We discuss the gut-wrenching video by This is Us actor Sterling K. Brown and how there is a third place - a necessary perspective for attaining healing and reaching racial unity. Julian shares his perspective as a Black man and Inez shares hers as a mom of a "future Black man". Join the conversation!
This episode is a quarantine check in with repeat featured guest Julian Newman! He was our featured guest for the 4 part mini-series "Dear White People". He is also the founder and CEO of Culture Creative. A consultancy company for diversity and inclusion training! We talk about what he's been up to and what he is doing during the "stay at home order" in place in Michigan these days. Not only does he tell us what he's been up to but he gives some GREAT advice on what we all can be doing to improve during this time. From reading 1 book a week, scheduling time to rest and reflect, but he also talks about the changes happening in his professional public speaking career. We talk about a few of the books he's reading and how our internal dialogue really shapes the reality in which we exist, what are you telling yourself right now? What is your personal narrative? Are you taking advantage of the dip? Absence makes the heart grow fonder. With all the things that are absent in your life right now, what are you going to appreciate more when life "returns to normal"? Tom Heap talks through the environmental issues emerging during the coronavirus pandemic and asks what the legacy might be. He's joined by climate change expert Dr Tamsin Edwards from King's College, London to examine the effect of the lockdown. With millions of people now working from home, planes being grounded and fewer cars on the roads, what level of environmental improvement has there been, and will that be reversed once our lives return to normal? With the help of experts from the fields of climate change, remote working, ecology and environmental standards, we track the changes in air pollution and global temperature. What will the return to ‘normal' look like? With the UK aiming to be carbon neutral by 2050, Tom asks whether the pandemic can be seen as a trial run for a zero-carbon world. And, with the international climate meeting COP26 postponed, Tamsin considers how international climate targets might be affected. With contributions from Christiana Figueres - architect of the Paris climate agreement, environmental psychologist Lorraine Whitmarsh, air quality expert David Carslaw, Gina McCarthy of the Natural Resources Defense Council, business communications specialist Jon Sidwick and Julian Newman from the Environmental Investigation Agency. Producer: Melvin Rickarby
