There are days in media that call upon the entire newsroom to fuel up on caffeine and join in camaraderie to produce timely, round-the-clock coverage. Then there are days that leave a producer waiting lonesomely for a Ruminant recording until 11p –– while the interns are out drinking, the staff long asleep, and the research assistant returned to the locked basement under the trapdoor where she dreams about her vanishing youth and Il Duce's future show notes. But come rain or come shine, this Ruminant will be out, speedrunning through topics including the balmy days of Georgia, the furies of President Biden, and the dehumanizing language of Mr. Goldberg. WHO WANTS TO LISTEN TO A 3-MINUTE VOICEMAIL?What sellers get completely wrong about voicemail is they treat it as a selling channel and spend too much talking time trying to offer something. In this episode, Walker talks about the importance of keeping voicemails short and making sure that you only aim for only one thing, get a callback. Learn the perfect combination needed to make more effective voicemails in this latest episode of No BS Sales School. NON-BS WORDS TO THE WISEGET A CALLBACK, NOTHING ELSE“The thing that people are screwing up is voicemail. Yes, voicemail. Alright, for those of you in the room, what's the only reason to leave a voice message? The only reason? Get a callback, that's it. You're not selling on voicemail, you're not doing proposals on voicemail, all you want to do with a voicemail is get a callback.”KEEP IT SHORT, SIMPLE, AND ACTIONABLE“Your job with leaving a voice message is to get a callback and leave a short compelling message. Nothing is perfect. Nothing works all the time, but I promise short compelling messages are better than long, three-minute, two-minute one-minute, 30 seconds to somebody is not going to listen and they'll just push you down the list. The Work in Sports Podcast - Insider Advice for Sports Careers
Your resume is a living document that provides potential employers with a snapshot of what you bring to the table. It needs to be constantly tweaked to reflect your most up-to-date skills and experience, tailored to the job you are applying for, and demonstrate the impact you have made at each organization you have been with. So how long should it be, and how do you choose what stays and what goes? That's what Hannah from the University of Missouri-St. Louis wants to know from the WorkInSports Podcast:“Hey Brian – I have a 4-page resume. How do I get it down to a more reasonable range?”How Do I Shorten My Resume? While keeping your resume to one page is a good rule of thumb, your resume length can vary depending on your experience and how relevant the information you put in the document is to the job you are applying for. That said, if you are looking to condense your resume, here are 10 things worth dropping entirely for length or other considerations:1. Objective Statements and IntroductionsAn objective statement is a waste of space. If you are applying for a job, it's assumed that you want it. Replace this with a summary paragraph that explains the skills and qualities you bring to the table.2. Older Jobs With no RelevanceEmployers want to see what you have been doing recently and how that ties into your desired job with them. Therefore, if there is a relevant accomplishment from a long ago position, you may leave it in (or weave it into your summary paragraph). This can also protect you from age bias.3. Graduation YearThis won't save you a ton of space, but it's another way to avoid age discrimination if you obtained your degree more than 5-10 years ago.4. Unprofessional Email AddressAgain, not a space saver, but a consideration. A provocative or unprofessional email address allows employers to eliminate your resume from the pile quickly.5. Multiple Phone NumbersThis may be less of an issue as personal home landlines are nearly extinct, but if you have multiple phones for whatever reason, pick one number and stick to it so you don't confuse employers.6. Irrelevant Personal InformationYour resume should only include information that tells employers how to contact you and why you are fit for the job. While volunteer information may have a place in your document, hobbies and personal interests don't.7. HeadshotIncluding a headshot within your resume can be hard to read for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and open you up to possible discrimination. Employers will get a look at you if they are interested in interviewing. You don't

INSTAGRAM RECOMMENDATIONS There are five things right now that you can do to level up your Instagram and be an engagement-worthy account for your ideal customers. Key points covered in this episode: ✔️ First, don't violate IG's guidelines because that won't get you anywhere. Trust me on that. ✔️ Post original content. Are you fun and witty? Show it. Are you professional and passionate about what you do? Show it. If you have something you want to try, do it. You won't know unless you try it and see how it turns out. ✔️ Post Reels. Images do not work right now, as reels are being promoted repeatedly. Currently, that is all that is being recommended. Double down on the creation of your Reels. ✔️ Are you grasping what to write and say in your videos and photos for Instagram?
The theme this week on the Retirement Quick Tips Podcast is: Nowhere to Hide. It's been a rough year, with threats of a deepening recession and continued, sticky inflation dominating the minds of most investors. So this week, I'm talking about how you can navigate an economic and investing climate where it seems like there's nowhere to hide. Today, I'm talking about keeping your bond portfolio short-term. This is definitely an area I would pay attention to. If you still have long-term bonds, bond funds, or bond index funds in your portfolio, those have been absolutely hammered this year - many down 10-15% or more. As rates continue moving higher, bond prices for longer-dated bonds will continue their downward spiral, so it's important to shorten maturities on your bond portfolio. Most of my clients have no more than 3-4 years average maturity in their bond portfolios right now. The upshot of rising rates is that short term interest rates are the best I've seen in my 15 year career as a financial advisor…as I record this podcast, here are some of the short-term rates that are currently out there: SWVXX – 2.65% 9-month CD – 4% 2-year CD – 4.25% So if you're going to make a move, I would move down into shorter rates, where your bond portfolio will be more stable in a rising rate environment, and you'll be rewarded with higher rates on the short end. That's it for today. Thanks for listening! Hello fellow fools! We had little time for this episode and Galo was feeling ill, however we are still pushing through! We say R.I.P fro a comedian we truly love, have a deep inspiration for, and respect, Trevor Moore. Ivan bags on Galo for always reverse parking, then talks a bit about Jordan Peterson(again). We make Indubitably a thing, and talk about recent events. Galo discusses his daughters Birthday party at Knott's Berry Farm. Ivan talks about how Chris Jericho's band had to ride a roller coaster a lot for a music video. We tell some sleep paralysis stories, wallets, and plenty about Boruto. Enjoy!

Today on the show, BPF trainer and writer John Phythyon and copywriting guru Abigail Dunard tackle an author-submitted blurb to dissect it and understand how to write killer sales copy. To watch video of this episode, view it on Facebook at Best Page Forward. Here are this episode's read-along selections: Blurb: Mortal Encounter by Luna Breid A couple holds their human attacker by the neck; a predator once, now a tasty prey. From the street to a plate, is it hunger or lethal justice? Clara and Thomas long a tasty piece of meat. When a human stabs Clara on their way home, they can't believe their luck. Now they need to take him home for a well-deserved dinner without raising suspicions from the passersby. Otherwise, they risk the peace treaty between species, endangering their children and their kin. How can they take their unexpected prey breaking no rules? This is the first book of the Numbered Stories series and can be read on its own. Click on Look Inside or download the sample to see if you would enjoy this book. Caution: This book is not recommended for young readers. Targeted Takeaway: In the short-attention-span world of the Twenty-first Century, you only have a precious few seconds to capture a reader's interest. So you need to grab them right away. Both your hook and your opening sentence need to be brief. At Best Page Forward, we keep our hooks to a mere 150 characters or less. That way, they stay punchy and grabby, and they can be used as Amazon Ad copy. Our opening lines are even shorter. We restrict them to six to ten words and don't allow any plot. Emotion only! This way, they land with the force of a devastating right hook, and that gets a reader's attention. When you're crafting your blurbs, keep that first sentence super-short. Open a short, impactful sentence of just 6-10 words that lasers in on the protag's initial emotional state. Hit your reader hard to get their attention, and then you can give them more detail. That's a surefire way to deliver a sales knockout.
