I first fell in love with long distance hiking in about 2014 and surprisingly it had nothing to do with the movie ‘Wild' that was released in the same year. The more I investigated the concept of long-distance hiking, the more I liked the idea of doing one of the well-known USA Triple Crown trails. The US Triple Crown is a goal that many long distance hikers set themselves and consists of the Appalachian Trail Continental Divide Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail You may be surprised to know that Australia has its own Triple Crown trails, even if they aren't as well known, or for that matter an official thing. In this podcast episode we talk with hiker Kevin Moss to find out all about his experience in completing the Australian Alps walking Track, the Bibbulmun Track, and the Heyson Trail  in a single Calendar year. www.australianhiker.com.au Australian Hiker can also be found on our various social media platforms Australian Hiker Facebook Australian Hiker Instagram Australian Hiker Twitter Australian Hiker Threads Australian Hiker Youtube

It rates about 160 health insurance plans available to Federal employees and retirees, including about 20 national plans, and about 140 health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and other local plan options, including two dozen Consumer-Driven and High Deductible plan options. The Guide rates not only regular insurance plans open to both employees and annuitants, but also about 40 plans open only to annuitants on Medicare that provide special Medicare benefits, pay most or all of the Part B premium, or both. Its ratings of plan costs take into account premiums, catastrophic limits, and estimates of likely out-of-pocket costs for medical expenses of every kind. The Guide compares plans for insurance value in dealing with unforeseen medical expenses, not just for the routine costs you can predict. It rates dental and vision plans as well. It provides dollar estimates of likely dental costs, taking into account both premiums and out-of-pocket expenses. It compares dental coverage in all plans, not just stand-alone plans. S2E2 Psychedelic Kaiju w/ War of the Gargantuas (1966) & Matango (1963) Kevin Moss from the Junk Food Dinner podcast joins Cory and Bob for the most wigged-out Japanese monster movies ever to come out of Toho Studios. First, it's the good Brown Gargantua vs. the evil Green Gargantua in a battle of land and sea elemental forces in the appropriately titled WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS (1966), an epic that rattled the minds of everyone from Guillermo del Toro to Tim Burton to friggin' Brad Pitt (who gushed about it once during The Oscars). It's also a favorite of Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO, who used to close out their set with "The Words Get Stuck in My Throat," the baffling-yet-catchy pop song that's ruined by Green Gargantua in the middle of the movie. Watch for it. The Gargantuas are about half the size of Godzilla or Rodan, and they don't have tails, so they move fast and hurl tanks like they're baseballs. Starring a decidedly unimpressed Russ Tamblyn from the original WEST SIDE STORY and the lovely Kumi Mizuno. Things get even weirder with our second feature, MATANGO (1963) aka ATTACK OF THE MUSHROOM PEOPLE. Seven stranded castaways (or maybe a few more) are shipwrecked on an island where the only thing to eat are mutated mushrooms with the power to transform you into creepy toadstool creatures. It's kaiju meets full-on body horror. Kumi Mizuno is back for this one along with Yoshio Tsuchiya and Akira Kubo. Both of our films also feature the artistry of Gojira director Ishiro Honda and special effects wizard Eiji Tsuburaya, which makes Honda the most featured director on OLD MOVIES FOR YOUNG STONERS of all time, since we profiled his ALL MONSTERS ATTACK (1969) in Season One, Episode Six. We haven't even done Orson Welles or Fritz Lang movies yet, but we've featured three Ishiro Honda movies. Priorities! Big thanks to Kevin Moss for joining us. His indispensable JUNK FOOD DINNER podcast is streaming on Apple Podcasts and your favorite podcast app. You can learn more about it at junkfooddinner.com. All of Bob's Ishiro Honda knowledge in this ep comes from the excellent book, "Ishiro Honda: A Life in Film from Godzilla to Kurosawa" by Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski. Bob purchased the book from MZS.press, the bookstore run by movie and TV critic Matt Zoller Seitz out of his home. Highly recommended. Federal workers and retirees have little time to miss another deadline and lose, as in overpay up to $2,000, on next year's health premiums. All they have to do to ensure loser status for insurance premiums is nothing. Ignore open season (which runs through Dec. 13). Stay in the same health plan you've belonged to since the Carter administration. Don't even consider leaving the high or standard option of your favorite plan since Friends or the Fresh Prince of Belair topped the TV charts. Most private sector companies offer minimum choices, minimum premium sharing and zero help to workers during their open seasons. Not Uncle Sam. When it comes to a helping health plan hand, the federal government can't be beat. The Office of Personnel Management offers an excellent website which helps workers navigate the various plans, options and premiums. Most agencies now offer (free to employees) the Consumer Checkbook guide to federal health plans. Its long-time editor Walton Francis sorts out the best deal for workers, retirees or survivor annuitants. You can check to see if your doctor is in network and find out other things that should be a factor in deciding on your 2022 health plan. To kick off open season, Walt Francis will be my guest today on Your Turn. He'll answer questions and give you a checklist of what to do during this open season. That will include things like health plans that offer HSAs (health savings accounts) for employees. Some of them who have been in HSA plan for years now have accounts of $50.000.

Hey there! Remember that time we all ran away to the big city to play golf and exorcize teenagers? Neither do we, but it sounds like a sweet dream. Find out what sorta BMX tricks we'd have pulled together in this hypothetical scenario when you donloyd and listen now! Up first! It's 1980's Times Square! The third film in Kevin Moss's continuing series exploring the runaway teenagers of the 1980s, this one's got marquees-a-plenty and a supporting turn by Tim Curry portraying none other than Johnny LaGuardia, famed fictional NYC radio DJ. The soundtrack's chock full of bangers from top to bottom, but does the movie thrill us? !Next up! There's very little exorcism and absolutely no teenagers in 1991's Teenage Exorcist, but that can't stop us from reviewing it. It's a Fred Olen Ray production, after-all, and Parker Bowman's got priorities when it comes to enjoying every instance of a leather bikini-clad Brinke Stevens whipping Eddie Deezen in a demonic basement scenario. Finally! Of course, it's 2004's 3-Iron (aka Bin Jip). It's the Korean romance film that you just KNEW we'd review some day - and the day is here. Is it a Sean pick, though, or does it not feature any baffling stretches of surreal silence? Is it even about golf? All this plus the trouble with cicadas, a cricket's jihad, Kevin wants his classic Jughead doll, a weirder looking dude than Paul Giamatti, being unfair to Jim Van Bebber, casting out demons on Skype, Siskel v Ebert: a heavyweight title match, extended musical interludes, nerd news and even more! With everything going downright batshit insane this year, we need Halloween now more than ever. Thankfully, we've all (mostly) survived long enough to enjoy at least one more round of dumb movies about Halloween parties, yeti wolfsmen, and pot-smoking goblins, and nothing is gonna stop us from doing just that. So, mash along with us and the monsters this week, if you please. It's the only podcast guaranteed to taste exactly like pumpkin pie, with half the calories! Up first! Y'all remember that Trick or Treats (1982) movie? No, not the one with that cute little burlap-sack-faced guy Sam. Not, not the one with that cute little burlap-sack-faced guy Ozzy. This is the one with that Rock and Roll Vampire in it! (no, not Ozzy). Anyhow, I guess you probably don't remember it. We didn't either. But it's got Peter Jason in drag doing battle with a proto-HomeAlone-style prankster child and his babysitter on Halloween night. And a bevy of character actors you'll love! So hear us chat about it. Next up! If you're an old, and you loved Halloween so much in 1985 that you tuned into ABC on November 1st hoping for the spookytime parties to continue, you must've been thrilled to see The Midnight Hour airing for your own, personal enjoyment. And if not, you'll love hearing us chat about this bizarre little movie (from Jack "Child's Play 3" Bender) in which all of the ghouls/goblins/yetismens of the afterlife invade the nowlife in a smalltown. With The Smiths on the soundtrack?!?!Finally! It's a third movie! With goblins, a weed wolf, and semi-famous partygoer cameos! Of course, we're talking about the Goblin-themed Full Moon Halloween classic Weedjies: Halloweed Night (2019). It's a movie where some goblins or something fuck up a party, with marijuana. Eagle-eared and sharp-minded podcast listeners might recall a legendary gaffe made in the earliest days of this historic podcast, in which intrepid purveyor of film criticism Parker Bowman accidentally watched the wrong movie named Things, back on episode #87 (LISTEN HERE). So, this week Kevin and Sean will be reviewing Things from 1993, and Parker will finally get to share his musings on the 1989 Barry Gillis classic. Thanks Evan G for the suggestion! Finally! It's a third film: Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009), which is one of those flesh-eating-bacteria-in-bottled-water-slowly-melts-the-occupants-of-a-highschool films. You know the type. The real goopy ones. And check out that soundtrack! Directed by Ti West, who tried (and failed) to Alan Smithee this joint. Kudos to Justin for sending it our way! All this plus more Dave Chappelle chat, alley-way film screenings, righting all the wrongs, revelations about Kevin Moss's text-messaging proficiency, fact-checking Dolemite biopic location accuracy, racist cat names, taking out the 'u', the tricky politics of modern film distribution, our weekly news plus Blu-ray Picks and even more! This week, we return to the deep and largely untapped well of short films for an easy-breezy summertime celebration of friendship, podcasting, and weird videos! It's the perfect antidote to your July 4th hangover (combined with fluids, rest, and federally-regulated painkillers).Up first! It's the surprisingly violent first installment of the 1944 serialized drama version of Captain America, in which the Captain is for some reason a District Attorney in search of a vibrator. It's old-timey and weird and full of surprises that we chat all about. Next up! We check in with our old friend Saul Bass (director of Phase IV) and see what all the late sixties Oscar buzz was about in regards to his award-winning 1968 short documentary Why Man Creates. It's a somewhat ramshackle, fairly charming, and wholly unique little collection of brief segments loosely structured around creativity. Plus it's got that signature George Lucas visual style! Finally! It's a third short: Styx: Killroy Was Here, (aka Styx: Caught in the Act) the 1983 concept-concert-film that nearly killed the treasured rock & roll outfit Styx. Famed musical lunatic Dennis Deyoung masterminded this semi-racist Blade Runner-esque futuretale of the death of rock music, featuring the talents of the director of Poltergeist II and the director of the Making of Thriller, and some kind of allegory about domestic automobile manufacturing. How ridiculous is it? Very. All this plus a sweaty-journalism fuck-style theorem, an on-scene report from the filming locations of Jack Frost, a surprising return for Face to Face chat, Kevin Moss is Mister Roboto (he's skype-y this week), a look at major league pitching deficiencies in London, more or less Morlocks, partially drunken musings on the current state of affairs in the Blaxploitation world, Parker references Marvel movies, a Pupstar update, throwing shade at Babar the Elephant, shout out to Bosco sticks, our weekly news plus Blu-ray Picks and even more! This week, we kick off the Summer of Sam (Raimi, that is)! So pack up the Oldsmobile and groove along with us to some classic jams from the slapstick indie genre darling of our youths!Up first! It's the semi-forgotten feature that Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell put together shortly after The Evil Dead and before its first sequel. Not a horror film, but more of a slapstick comedy slash film noir parody slash Looney Tunes live-action tribute slash murder mystery slash action movie, or something. Of course, we're talking about 1985's Crimewave, which by the way features a meaty role for character acting legend Brion James. Next up! It's Old Sam's take on Universal Monsters and Golden Age Superheroes, with a dash of Mission Impossible thrown in for fun. We're chatting of course about 1990's Darkman, the one about the guy with the burned face and the masks. Finally! It's a third movie: Army of Darkness, the 1992 feature that you might have heard a thing or two about. It's the final Evil Dead movie ever made or associated with that franchise, and once again stars Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams. But does it feature any deadites? All this plus for the love of old men, a Dave Chappelle update, a Bushwick Bill in memoriam, Kevin Moss reveals some Halloween staples in his house, no steamed hams (this time), a Ghoul Summer update in the form of an unsettling health update, a semi-ardent Švankmajer supporter, a steamin' heap of junkmail, Swamp Thing was a thing?, Parker claims there are too many DC Superhero movies being released, Parker Bowman tells us how he really feels about Steven Spielberg, we're sorry to Massacre Video for goofing on a movie they're releasing, the kinds of crime that Parker's into, our weekly news plus Blu-ray Picks! What happens when three dishelved, irritated podcasters are trapped in a never-ending episode of Junk Food Dinner filled with trap-like technical issues, without even the calming professionalism of Kevin Moss (out on vacation, presumably in Boston)? Well, the results are here and they're not pretty. At least we've got the talents of professional podcaster Mike Dikk (of Cigarette News, Retro Food Ghoul, VRTL Pros, Kissing Contest, and Border Boss fame) to compensate for all of the computer-based failures this Escape-ril episode contains. Oh, and the movies? We kick off the first ever Escape-ril in the only ways that make any sense at all: with the first entries of the Cube, Saw, and Collector franchises! Help us break free by donloyding now!! Up first! A perhaps undersung gem of the torture-porn subgenre of horror flicks, or just some cheap Canadian sleaze? We take a look at CUBE from 1997! Next up! Somehow Kevin Moss has escaped our review of the much-discussed but never-reviewed SAW from 2004! Finally! Mike Dikk brings us THE COLLECTOR, a Saw-like film from 2009, for reasons he'll explain very clearly! All this plus another charmingly ramshackle introduction by amateur podcaster Parker Bowman, an immediate call-out of Kevin Moss and his sleepiness status, seasonal baseball chat from your favorite American podcasters, lots of theories and musings as to why Kevin is averse to Saw films, we read actual electronic mails with our eyeballs, Parker revealingly describes two boobs as "less than average", Sean's new catchphrase "that's not spaghetti!", unprecedented levels of technical difficulties, a modicum of wrestlechats (including requests for dead wrestlers), oh man this technology is getting difficult with us, Redbox reportage, Mike identifies his other podcasts by name and describes their content in general terms, Parker continues to avoid Ulthar's transnational touring company, god damnit this audio is broken, aliens versus cubes, the early strangulation death of John-o (is it Jon-oh?), Parker declares the reverse bear trap in Saw "the coolest fucking shit in the world", Sean literally curses this episode by complaining about the audio quality on Mike's own Saw podcast episode (or maybe it's Saw itself that is cursing us??), minor-key nose whistling, our weekly news plus Blu-ray Picks and a whole lot more! It’s hard to believe that we’ve already hit double figures with CityCast (well, this episode is technically our eleventh, when you count the roundtable special from earlier in the year). We’ve covered everything from connected buildings, to poems, singing tram stops and street furniture. This month, Anne Dornan took the reins and was joined by three people who are putting citizens at the heart of the city. Minnie Yusaf is a self-described storyteller and design thinker, and currently works at FutureEverthing – Manchester’s cultural innovation lab, and a key CityVerve partner on the Culture & Public Realm theme. Kevin Moss is a technical project manager at Sparta Digital, and has been a hands-on player in the development of the Buzzin app that’s currently guiding people around the city’s Christmas Markets. And Reina Yaidoo works at a social enterprise called Bassajamba that specialises in the science, health and tech needs of disadvantaged and marginalised communities. She’s also one of our citizen journalists. Tackling the tricky topic of how to design smart solutions that can serve the needs of a diverse population, as well as how to make technology accessible to all, the discussion ranged from Human Centred Design to Star Trek and everything in between. Meanwhile, Adrian Slatcher went up against the clock for Meet The Partners – speaking about the work that Manchester City Council is contributing to the project.

We had a unique opportunity to shoot, "The Ledge" experience on the Willis Tower Skydeck in Chicago (formerly Sears Tower). For those who are unfamiliar with The Ledge, it's basically a glass and steel platform that protrudes out of the tower for a unique 103 story view of the city below. Our mission was to shoot The Ledge from all sides including some reverse shots outside, a task not for the Acrophobic. Willing to do anything for the perfect shot, our fearless Director of Photography, Kevin Moss and his First A.C., Hunter Whalen strapped into the towers window washing scaffold armed with the Red Camera One to capture some of the more breathtaking views of The Ledge itself. This in itself provided most of our crew the opportunity to view the city of Chicago from the real Skydeck, the rooftop of the Willis Tower. This video is a short chronicle of our experience. Shot on the Panasonic GH1 / 1080 / 24 All hand-held (sorry for the shakes -- it takes some steady nerves to dangle your SLR off the edge of 109 stories)
