This week I've gone crackers. I've wondered for awhile why it's biscuits everywhere else - but sometimes ... it's crackers. I mean, the most British of British claymation - Wallace and Grommit, when they go to the moon to get cheese, even they bring crackers.... not biscuits. That, and a few other things had me wondering if crackers and biscuts DIDN'T come from the same source? Rather did the two just meet in America. Turns out - that's what it was.It was Douglas Mack of The Snack Shack that got me stared with this post on biscuit and cracker mysteries of the past: The Snack That's a Secret IngredientAnd here are the llinks to @oliviacooks excellent cracker recipes made with sourdough discard:Love & Olive Oil - Sourdough CrackersSiicilian Parchment Sourdough Crackers (pane carasau)both include a non-sourdough version.Find out how it was New Sweden all along. Or maybe not that... but they were involved. Anyway, be glad your crackers have fat and leavening in them. The whole Junk Food Dinner crew is back this month, with two roller flicks and one rock 'n roller flick.Up first, Roger Corman. AIP and the guy that directed Fade to Black team up to get in on the popular roller derby trend of the 1970's with Unholy Rollers from 1972 about a woman trying to become a star in the roller world while navigating creepy promoters and jealous teammates. Next, the BBC and director Alan Clarke give British youths a glimpse into their dystopian future with Stars of the Roller State Disco from 1984, a made-for-TV movie about a group of young people who are forced to hang out in a roller rink/arcade, while they wait for shitty jobs to become available. And finally, a mysterious punk rocker on the run from the law teams up with an awkward young woman to find love and rebellion in 2020's Dinner in America from the director of Snack Shack and The Bunny Game. All this plus discussion of Yorgos Lanthimos' Kinds of Kindness, In a Violent Nature, and Parker watching Lord of the Rings and NOT falling asleep. Plus sports gambling chat, Severin releasing an obscure 60's mummy movie, the sequel to Nobody, and Three Stooges and Nico Mastorakis blu-ray box sets coming soon.LISTEN NOW!MP3 Direct DonloydAlso, if you like the show, please take a minute and subscribe and/or comment on us on iTunes, Stitcher, Blubrry or Podfeed.net. Smelly Cabins, Snack Shack, Silly Skits, Scary Bus Rides, Smooching Kids – nothing says summer like Summer Camp!Even after our many years of experience and all the various programs we've led, we still believe in Summer Camp. It's one of the foundations of our ministries. Summer Camp provides the chance to get away, break rhythm, avoid distractions, build relationships, and have significant, life-changing moments with God. There's no substitute.Despite its long-standing history and value, we've also seen an increasing reluctance on the part of parents to send their kids to camp. Mix that in with travel sports and the financial costs, and it's not an easy thing to get kids to go!But we still love it, still sold on it, and are still taking our kids this summer. Hear our reasons, and do likewise!
This week: Kevin Moss and Parker Bowman regale us with tales of the legendary Ohio-based JFD meetup that just recently transpired! And we review three movies! Did we even mention it's our 14th Anniversary? Don't worry if you forgot to get us a gift - your listenership is gift enough. Up first! We're confronted yet again with another one of Sean's fancy musical fantasias, with 1971's The Boy Friend, starring Twiggy. But could the fact that it's directed by Ken Russell save it from the realms of boredom? Next up! We return to the world of technical muppetry with the grandaddy of all Muppet features, 1979's The Muppet Movie. But will we reveal on air whom our favorite muppets are? Finally! Of course, it's 1987's Extreme Prejudice, because y'all asked for it. All this plus our loving tribute to the great state of Ohio, greek kids swimming through rivers of chili, the surprising non-Italian origin of pizzas in Boston, gettin' spicy in the suites (w/ gummy bears), the surprisingly slimy texture of expansive novelty lobsters and dinosaurs and yetis, Starburst: Full Log Edition, taking girls to scary concerts: karaoke edition, vintage ice cream bars, Snack Shack versus Spookies, the candy version of smelling salts, Natasha Henstridge's got y'all getting Species and even more! Recorded live-to-tape on National Don't Walk Your Dog Day, 2024!! Direct Donloyd Here Got a movie suggestion for the show, or better yet an opinion on next week's movies?
