I've talked about the different parts of my vision story many times over the last 10 years. In hundreds of videos, presentations, and podcast interviews, I've slowly pieced together the different parts of my story. However, this was the first time that I laid it all out in one single video. In this episode of the blind life podcast, I share the audio from that video. If you would like to watch the full video, click here,https://youtu.be/4wPVxv2ZVJo

In this seventh episode, host James Ingram talks to Irini Papadimitriou, creative director of Future Everything. In designing and building better cities, shouldn’t we involve the most important stakeholder—the people who live in them? Manchester is becoming a city that values the opinions of its citizens to co-design a smarter and better-connected city. From businesses and jobs to better healthcare and transport, the CityVerve project in Manchester aims to engage and empower citizens and eventually create a blueprint for smart cities worldwide. As one of the main drivers of CityVerve, FutureEverything leads three areas of the project: human-centred design, citizen engagement, and culture and public realm. Starting out as an internationally acclaimed festival that began in Manchester in 1995, FutureEverything has become so much more than a conference about technology over the past 22 years—it's a cultural facilitator at the intersection of art, design, science and digital. In this episode of HealthRedesigned, we speak to Mahnaz Yusaf, a Service Designer and Feimatta Conteh, a Program Manager from FutureEverything about the health innovation projects that they’ve been driving recently through the CityVerve project. Listen to this episode on Hanno's website Connect with FutureEverything: FutureEverything's website Twitter Facebook Instagram
This talk will outline the recent work of BAFTA-winning artist Dan Hett around encryption issues and technologies, including a detailed examination of his recent ODI commission: two large, vibrant paintings that each contain a securely encrypted (but boldly painted) transmission, created for the ODI's upcoming LMAO exhibition and marking the beginning of a new arc of work. The key to unlocking the encrypted messages is stored on an RFID chip, which was implanted directly into the artist's hand earlier this year, making the content stored within these works accessible only to him. The talk will look at the on-site production of the works at the ODI, and will discuss the issues and ethics around current government policy around encryption technology, which gained particular significance for the artist when he became directly involved in the Manchester terror attack in May 2017. Although the themes and issues discussed are rooted in technology, this talk will be completely suitable for everyone. Please note: Dan will discuss potentially distressing themes around the Manchester attack, and the talk will also contain a few images of an implant being put into skin. you can watch the lecture here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8KgiJM_348 About the speaker Dan Hett is a BAFTA-winning artist and creative technologist from Manchester, currently working as a selected artist on FutureEverything's cutting-edge FAULT LINES program.
It’s hard to believe that we’ve already hit double figures with CityCast (well, this episode is technically our eleventh, when you count the roundtable special from earlier in the year). We’ve covered everything from connected buildings, to poems, singing tram stops and street furniture. This month, Anne Dornan took the reins and was joined by three people who are putting citizens at the heart of the city. Minnie Yusaf is a self-described storyteller and design thinker, and currently works at FutureEverthing – Manchester’s cultural innovation lab, and a key CityVerve partner on the Culture & Public Realm theme. Kevin Moss is a technical project manager at Sparta Digital, and has been a hands-on player in the development of the Buzzin app that’s currently guiding people around the city’s Christmas Markets. And Reina Yaidoo works at a social enterprise called Bassajamba that specialises in the science, health and tech needs of disadvantaged and marginalised communities. She’s also one of our citizen journalists. Tackling the tricky topic of how to design smart solutions that can serve the needs of a diverse population, as well as how to make technology accessible to all, the discussion ranged from Human Centred Design to Star Trek and everything in between. Meanwhile, Adrian Slatcher went up against the clock for Meet The Partners – speaking about the work that Manchester City Council is contributing to the project.

For this month’s episode, Rowena Burns was joined by two creative luminaries, Naho Matsuda and Natalie Kane, who are currently tasked with bringing the CityVerve project to life. Naho is a member of FutureEverthing’s FAULT LINES cohort, and responsible for a new artwork commissioned by CityVerve and titled ‘every thing every time’. Natalie, meanwhile, works at FutureEverything as an editor and curator, and the pair spoke with Rowena about what FutureEverything is doing to blur the boundaries between art and technology. They also discussed the importance of involving local people in the development of these ideas and solutions, and how we can look at city technology in new, more human-centric ways. Elsewhere, Tim Streather of SPICA Technologies was in the hot seat for our regular ‘Meet the Partners’ segment, and we heard from Cisco’s Nick Chrissos and Pete Rai down at IoT World Forum too.
Much like smartphones and tablets, wearables and the IoT are the next hot technology expected to take over
Natalie Kane, C&P officer at FutureEverything and researcher at Changeist, co-founder of Haunted Machines, a project which reflects on narratives of magic pervading technology. In this second talk of the session Making Sense of Technology at Lift16, Natalie Kane looks into the ghosts that live at the intersection between the digital and physical worlds and how technology can haunt us when sufficiently badly designed.Dive into the ethereal world of technology!Recorded on February 12, 2016, in Geneva. Paul Wolinski and Joe Shrewsbury are one half of 65daysofstatic, an instrumental band from Sheffield, as comfortable crashing samplers to mine glitches as they are putting guitars through too much distortion. Influenced by a technologically dystopian present and an apocalyptically likely future, they tend to be found filling venues, galleries or headphones with different kinds of noise in their ongoing efforts to find the limits of what ‘being a band’ can mean. The Space Lady is a street-performing singer based in Colorado, USA. Originally beginning on the streets of Boston in the late 70s, she has recently begun playing again. Often seen performing in 1980’s Boston, and then a decade later in San Francisco’s Castro community – where she would play and sing for hours on end for the gay scene, and got her apt moniker – The Space Lady’s winged helmet and setup of a Casio battery-powered keyboard, vocal mic and echo & phaser controls became a small but striking phenomenon. Her sound is a blend of synth-laden... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
