Reid Carter presents Part 1 of a two-part series on John Wayne Gacy, timed with Peacock's new series "Devil in Disguise." Gacy was a successful Chicago contractor, Democratic precinct captain, and community pillar who dressed as Pogo the Clown for children's parties. He was also one of America's most prolific serial killers. Between 1972-1978, he murdered at least 33 teenage boys and young men, burying 29 in the crawl space under his suburban home. December 1978: 15-year-old Robert Piest disappeared after meeting Gacy about a job. That investigation finally exposed the horror beneath Gacy's house.Unlock an ad-free podcast experience with Caloroga Shark Media! Get all our shows on any player you love, hassle free! Dan, Manny, & Billy put New Found Glory's Self-Titled pop-punk-emo “classic” to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “New Found Glory shoots their load on the first five songs of this album.” -Billy WARNING! Nostalgia definitely doesn't mean that things are good, and the guys get into that as well, and is emo-pop-punk a whole genre of dudes who were friend zoned, maybe. There are some movies that stay with you. Gremlins is a huge part of our childhood. And though some of our memories may be muddled, we look back on it fondly. A more recent favorite is The Mummy, which has some of the best on-screen chemistry we have ever seen. We discuss our excitement for the upcoming sequels. Welcome to Derry has been a hit for HBO. The premiere was the third most watched in the history of the streaming service. There are some major caveats, but it is an accomplishment. Along those same lines is how the second episode was better than the first. It is noteworthy, but how much does it actually say about the show?Spoiler alert: nothing good. The debut was such a mess that if it did not improve in even the smallest way, Welcome to Derry would be a leading candidate for Worst Show of the Year. (As it is, it is still in the running.) Episode two has given us a clear road map of what is to come. We will be getting too much of everything. If you like over the top nonsensical storytelling, then this should be right up your alley. There is nothing wrong with putting your own spin on the Dracula mythos. Over the century plus since the seminal book was first published, many authors, actors, and filmmakers have put their own spin on Bram Stoker's tale. But one thing you should probably never try to do is completely re-write what happened.Yet, that is exactly what Joe Hill does with Abraham's Boys. Not a retelling from a different point of view or through a modern lens. A sequel that decides to make wild changes to the original. There is some promise with the general idea, but it is executed in a poor manner that ends up being the worst thing possible: boring. Send Kris and Rob a Text Message!May 26, 1990, Wellington, Florida. A doorbell rings, and wife and mother opens the front door to find a clown with an orange wig, white face, red nose and gloves, holding flowers and balloons. But why murder this woman who seemed to have no enemies? Rumors of affairs swirled, and while her husband had an alibi, his mistress bided her time before becoming his second wife and living happily ever after. This murder would sit cold for 27 years, but makeup washes off. Secrets don't stay buried forever. And advances in DNA can bring a killer to justice. This week on The Commentary Booth, Jamie Apps and Corrina Mabey dig up the past to unmask one of America's most terrifying killers — John Wayne Gacy. The duo dive into Devil In Disguise: John Wayne Gacy, the chilling true-crime drama that pulls audiences deep into the grim 1970s Chicago underworld where the “Killer Clown” hid in plain sight.Across eight tense episodes, the Peacock miniseries traces Gacy's horrifying double life as a local contractor by day and serial murderer by night. Jamie and Corrina unpack everything from Michael Chernus' unsettling portrayal of Gacy to the show's raw, gritty style that captures the era's claustrophobic fear. They also discuss how the series resists glamorising violence, instead focusing on the victims and exposing the failures of a homophobic justice system that allowed Gacy's crimes to continue for so long. The hosts debate the show's time jumps, reflect on the haunting realism of its cinematography, and explore why this series feels more Mindhunter and Dahmer than Ed Gein.Highlights Breakdown: - A Victim-Centric Masterpiece: Discover why this series stands head and shoulders above other serial killer dramatisations (looking at you, Monster: The Ed Gein Story!) by placing the victims, their families, and the lasting trauma at the forefront. - The Performance of a Monster: Our take on Michael Chernus's terrifyingly accurate portrayal of Gacy, capturing his chilling instant switch from charismatic public figure to menacing killer. - Gritty 70s Authenticity: How the show's raw, unglamorous style and clever editing choices create a gripping and respectful tone, reminiscent of fan-favourites like Mindhunter and Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. - Societal Failures Exposed: A deep dive into the homophobia and systemic police failures that allowed Gacy to prey on marginalised young men for far too long. - The Final Verdict: Is the series flawless? We discuss the pros and cons, including some divisive time-jumping narrative choices in the later episodes.Whether you're fascinated by true crime or drawn to stories that confront the darkest corners of humanity, this episode delivers a gripping, reflective discussion about this heavy but essential watch for true crime aficionados. How does a person live two completely different lives—one as a smiling neighbor, volunteer, and businessman, and the other as one of the most prolific serial killers in American history? In this special episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, we go beyond the crimes of John Wayne Gacy and into the psychology that made his double life possible. Gacy wasn't just a murderer—he was a master manipulator who weaponized charm, denial, and narcissism to create a version of himself the world would trust. We break down how Gacy's brain allowed him to compartmentalize—keeping the “good guy” identity separate from the predator underneath. Through psychological insight and documented facts, Tony explores how cognitive dissonance, moral disengagement, and grandiose narcissism all collided to form the mask that fooled Chicago for years. You'll hear how his early childhood trauma shaped a lifelong need for control, why he sought validation through community status, and how that craving for power morphed into something monstrous. This isn't a story about body counts or brutality—it's a psychological autopsy of deceit, denial, and domination. From his carefully crafted public persona to the chilling calm he maintained during his arrest, this episode dissects what happens when self-deception becomes a survival mechanism—and how even the most convincing façade eventually cracks. If you've ever wondered how someone like John Wayne Gacy could laugh with cops at a barbecue one day and bury a victim beneath his house the next—this is the story that finally explains it. Listen, reflect, and remember: evil doesn't always look like a monster. Sometimes, it looks like your neighbor in a clown suit. #JohnWayneGacy #HiddenKillers #TrueCrimePodcast #PsychologyOfEvil #SerialKillerMind #CriminalPsychology #Narcissism #TrueCrimeAnalysis #TonyBrueski #RealCrimeStories Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Highlander is a weird franchise. It seemed like a big deal in the 80s. Big enough to warrant a couple of sequels and a TV series that lasted a few seasons. It also has one of the most quotable lines in cinema history. Yet, it is also incredibly underrated. Which makes some sense considering all that came out of that decade. We also talk about directors who have their heads up their asses.Arnold Schwarzenegger – whose credits include Junior and The Expendables 3 – has called Red Sonja the worst film he has ever made. That is a matter of personal opinion, but there is no denying the Brigette Nielsen vehicle is pretty bad. Add in the fact that this adaptation has been languishing in developmental hell for over a decade, and it seems like a huge risk. The 2025 version of Red Sonja manages to work because it knows its audience. It is a straightforward sword and sorcery flick that is sexy enough to play to that audience, but modern enough to not exploit Matilda Lutz. The performances are fantastic and the production looks great. There are some missteps along the way, but it is a very good Red Sonja adaptation. How do you make a re-imagining for The Toxic Avenger? The original idea was to go the family friendly route? But is that what fans really want to see? You also don't want to go the make jokes out of sexually assaulting a blind woman direction either since nobody wants to see that. Is there a middle ground when it comes to Troma?Thankfully, the 2025 version of The Toxic Avenger manages to figure it out. It is crude and disgusting fun that manages to offend without taking thinks too far. Sure, there is a lot of violence, and it definitely will not be for everyone, but fans of the source material will love what they did with the latest installment. Day 2 of Sinister Creature Con was just as busy as the first. A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth, pick up free posters and flyers, and signed up for our bi-annual newsletter.First up is the venerable scream queen Danielle Harris. A veteran of both Halloween franchises Danielle Harris has starred in a dizzying array of popular horror films including Hatchet, Shiver, ChromeSkull, and Night of the Living Dead: Darkest Dawn, to name a few. We touch on a few films including her upcoming flick Last Chance Motel, also starring Scout Taylor-Compton. (interview starts at around 00:00:52)Dave Barclay joins us next. Covered in memorable Yoda photos, Dave's table was a hotbed of activity and for good reason. He helped bring one of the most cherished characters in film to life. His puppeteer work with Yoda is just scratching the surface. Dave chronicled his life's work in his book "My Life With Animatronics. Movies, Puppets and Beyond" now available at https://coolwatersprods.com/ . (interview starts at around 00:14:04) Mitch Eason, writer of Chainsaw Angels, talks about his debut comic book which is proving to be an excellent read. Chainsaw Angels follows a popular trend of using the term zombie to categorize his antagonists while twisting the enemy into his own vision, much the same way Danny Boyle did in 28 Days Later. Zombies, but different.Mitch has more planned for the series, so we suggest jumping into this one now. (interview starts at around 00:24:40) Our final interview of the Con is with Mike Hernandez of Killer Clowns from Outer Space fame. Mike Hernandez has made a career of stunt car driving and speaks on his work in various films. Mike's work as a stuntman is one of the more critical roles a film crew member is tasked with, and like Dave Barclay they bring movies to life. (interview starts at around 00:36:18) .The Grim and Bloody Podcast will be back at Sinister Creature Con (with an even bigger presence!) October 18th and 19th at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. Visit https://www.facebook.com/sinistercreaturecon/ for more.

Horror is all about its franchises. Audiences love their old favorites so much that there is always a steady stream of news about the next possible legacy sequel. A Quiet Place is a new addition that has released two installments and a prequel. Each has done well but is a third one pushing their luck? There will never be a dearth of Stephen King adaptations to watch. He has an endless well of work for filmmakers to pull from. Even better, there is no need to make new movies when you can constantly remake the things that have already been done. Kind of like Netflix and Cujo.Over the years we have had the chance to cover some great stuff from SXSW. Just last year, Dead Mail ended up being one of our picks for our favorite movies of 2024. So it should come as no surprise that we were really looking forward to what the fest had to offer this year. And we got two good ones.Redux Redux is a revenge tale that takes place throughout the parallel universes. It sounds kinda goofy, but it works thanks to a grounded approach that avoids going too deep into the science fiction aspects. The character driven approach focuses pretty much exclusively on its two protagonists - for better and for worse. You never realize how poorly teenagers are written in movies until you see someone do a great job of it. Clown in the Cornfield has some of the best teenagers seen in movies in years. Thanks to a combination of great writing and strong performances, everything just seems natural. And even in the best movies surrounding younger characters, this is not always the case. The cast of Clown in the Cornfield stand out without overshadowing its story. But it is not the only thing the film has going for it. The plot is as wacky as the title suggests. There are over the top kills, lots of blood, and of course, a killer clown. Its predictability is part of its charm and it is an all around fun slasher. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Synopsis Terrifier 3 is a sweet hallmark-esk Christmas movie about a middle-class family working through the stress of the holiday season. Mom is bored with her suburban lifestyle and Dad is constantly tired at work because he keeps being woken up by sweet little Suzy who has crazy dreams when she has too much sugar before bed. Oh yeah, and a clown dressed as Santa possessed by the devil wielding an ax is there as well. In reality, terrifier 3 is the continuation of the Terrifier franchise featuring Art the Killer Clown. After resurrecting once again Art meets up with an old friend and begins a brand new killing spree. With Christmas just days away the hustle and bustle of holiday commercialism does a fantastic job of masking the fact that there is an eclectic killer dressed in bizarre mime clothes killing multiple people everywhere he goes in gruesome and disturbing ways. It's clear that Art is dead set on finding new and inventive ways to kill people and in this installment Art really goes for new territory. He's like the Luis and Clark of killing, he's just gotta map out that new lush land. Sienna from the last movie is back as well and trying to recover from her trauma but doesn't really have time to do that since she is about to experience trauma anew. Review Terrifier 3, terrifier 3. What more can be said about Terrifier 3 that has not yet been said. My utterance is yet a meager portion. For the true understanding lies in the viewing experience. I will never be able to explain this movie to you in a way that will give you the visceral experience I had in the theater watching flesh rip from bone. Maybe herein lies the perfect word to describe Terrifier 3. It separates. Skin from muscle. A lower jaw from the upper jaw. Left butt cheek from right butt cheek. Every way in which a body can be torn asunder, Terrifier 3 will separate. Separate the boys from the men. The weaklings from the strong. The feeble from the stable. And the queasy from the iron stomachs. I had a great time watching this disgusting movie. However, I won't pretend it was a perfect movie. It was pretty predictable. I knew Art would kill people and that Art killing people would take up a significant portion of the runtime, most of which doesn't add much to the actual plot. But hey, that's just terrifier baby. Score 8/10
How a killer dressed like a clown murdered a mom and almost got away with it. Peter Van Sant reports.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
On the morning of May 26, 1990, 40-year-old Marlene Warren answered the door of her upscale Wellington, Florida home to find a person dressed as a clown holding a flower arrangement and two balloons. As Marlene reached out for the gifts, the clown shot her in the face, leaving Marlene gasping for air on the floor as the clown calmly walked back to a white Chrysler LeBaron and drove away. While Marlene was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, a massive manhunt for the clown began. And as the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that Marlene had expressed fears that her husband, Michael Warren, was going to kill her. However, the police would soon find out Michael couldn't be the killer—he'd been with a friend when Marlene was shot. But, as the investigation continued, disturbing information about Michael's possible connections to the murder began to surface. Retired FBI agent and criminal profiler Candice DeLong breaks down the seminal case of John Wayne Gacy. This week, in Wellington, Florida, a happy, successful woman is met at her front door by a clown, with flowers, and balloons. The clown also had a gun, and uses it to murder this woman, in front of her family, before the clown slips off into the world. Despite a mountain of circumstantial evidence, and a very suspicious sounding husband, this case goes cold, for years? Did they ever find this killer clown?? Along the way, we find out that Palm Beach county is horse country, that it's hard to tell an identity through clown makeup, and that no one needs any more reasons to hate clowns!!Hosted by James Pietragallo and Jimmie WhismanNew episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports!
