Witness Wednesday #141 Healing of FibromyalgiaToday's witness is from the internet. This morning in a prayer group, the leader talked about how her sister-in-law struggled with Fibromyalgia and suffered from migraines and the treatment wasn't working. I felt the Holy Spirit wanted me to do a witness on a healing of Fibromyalgia so that her sister in law could believe that if God did it for his person, He will do it for her too. Hope is such an important part of faith and it can also be so easy to lose it when you are in chronic pain for so long. Here is the miraculous story of Teresa's healing of Fibromyalgia. Remember, God is the same yesterday, today and always. If He has done it before, He will do it again. We believe Lord, help our unbelief. In the fall of 2002, my wife Teresa started experiencing some pain symptoms in her back that we could not find an explanation for. Over the next few years, it spread over her whole body.  After going to many different doctors, she was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.  The diagnosis was confirmed by more than one doctor.Fibromyalgia has different levels of severity in different people.  My wife's condition was particularly severe, and her health deteriorated to the point where she was only able to walk about 50 feet or so, and she could only be on her feet for about 90 seconds.  The pain was getting worse and worse.Three years later, in December of 2005, she was struck with another condition in her arms that was eventually diagnosed as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (also known as RSD).  Because of the intense pain, she lost use of both arms and hands, and was no longer able to care for herself at all.  Her arms hurt so badly that it was painful even for air to blow on her skin sometimes.  Over time, not using her arms, and not being able to walk very well, she became weaker and weaker, and her hands actually started to close up into a fist.It was a very bad situation, and that is putting it lightly.  And, it was getting worse day by day, month by month. The next year, in August of 2006, I found out about a prayer email list at the company I work for.  I joined the list, and sent out this email:—–Original Message—–From: NealSent: Friday, August 18, 2006 11:07 AMTo: *****Subject: Prayer Request Hi everyone.  I have a prayer request.Over the past four years, my wife Teresa has developed some chronic pain conditions that have baffled many doctors.  The pain has become increasingly debilitating, and has left her very limited in what she is able to do physically.God has faithfully brought us through it this far, and sent many people to help us along the way.  He has blessed us in many ways, and we are very thankful.  He has also led us to some good physicians, and we hope and pray that she is on the road to recovery.I would like to ask you all to pray for her complete healing, and that God would use our testimony to bless others.Thank youNeal—————————————————————Someone replied to that email inviting me to a lunchtime study in one of the conference rooms at work.  It was a study on divine healing.  It was being led by a man named Bill Alsop.  I came to the study.  After it was over, I spoke to Bill briefly.  He didn't know me, but I asked him about praying for my wife.  He invited me to his home that Friday night, August 25.So, that Friday after work I picked up Teresa and we drove to his home.  On the way there I remember that I was somewhat excited, and I was expecting that we would receive encouragement and strength to go on.  There had been many people praying for us over the years.  We had a few times where people came by to pray with us, and there were other times when we had gone to different places for prayer.  I know there were lots more praying for us that we were not always aware of.  It always helped us to keep going, and that was pretty much what I was expecting. When we arrived, we talked with Bill and his wife Cathy for a short while, and then we started praying.  Teresa was actually lying down on the floor at this point, and we were all praying in the name of the Lord Jesus.  Some of the time they were praying in tongues, some of the time they were praying in English. After a few minutes, he told my wife to stand up.  He took her to the front door, and he told her to walk to the end of his street, turn the corner, walk up the hill to the mailboxes, touch one of them, then walk back.  He told her to talk to God while she walked.  (Bill later shared with us that the Holy Spirit had instructed him to do all of that in a vision he received while they were praying). In my mind, I was thinking “What? She can't even make it to the end of the driveway”…but before I could say anything, she took off walking out the door and down the street.  I knew that unless something supernatural happened, she would collapse within two minutes of walking out the door. However, before I had time to object, Bill turned to me and said this: “You have been praying to receive the Baptism with the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues.”  That shocked me because I had not mentioned anything about that, even though it was absolutely true.  God was getting my attention…to help me believe.  He succeeded.  I stood up, Bill put his hand on my chest, and I began speaking in tongues for the first time…just like they did in the Bible.  I received the Baptism with the Holy Spirit right there in his living room, while at the same time my wife was walking down the street receiving a miraculous healing from God.For a few minutes as I was speaking, I was somewhat overwhelmed in a flood of God's presence, and I forgot that Teresa had gone out walking without me and without her wheelchair.  Before long, I looked towards the door and she was standing there talking to Bill. She made it!  She walked all the way to the mailboxes and back.  That is about four blocks.  She was healed as she walked, and it was a miracle!Bill told us to go buy her some walking shoes, and to go walking every day.  We talked a little while longer, and then drove home.  On the way home, I remember feeling like I just came out of a whirlwind, and wondering to myself “what just happened to us…”  The pain was gone from Teresa's body.  She made the comment in the car that she was able to “feel her skin again.”We got home and went for our first walk together in years.  We walked halfway to the end of our street and back, and she made it with no pain.  The next day we walked farther and still no pain.  No more need for the prescription pain medications for Fibromyalgia…and she has not taken one of those since then.We continued walking farther and farther each day, and she was regaining her strength now that all of the terrible pain and fatigue were gone.  After about a week, she was able to walk for a mile.  Not long after that, it became two miles.  We donated her wheelchair to charity.  She was able to use her arms again, and feed herself and dress herself and everything else you do with your arms and hands. She had a previously scheduled appointment coming up with the main Fibromyalgia doctor, and we decided to keep the appointment and tell him the good news.  After that appointment, I sent this message to the prayer email list:—————————————————————From: NealSent: Wednesday, November 29, 2006 3:06 PMTo: *******Subject: Testimony UpdateHi everyone.I am the person who sent out the testimony back in August about Christ healing my wife Teresa from Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (FM/CFS).I just wanted to send out a little story that I hope will build your faith. This is a story about what it is like to tell a doctor that Jesus healed you.Last Wednesday, I took Teresa back the specialist she has been seeing for FM/CFS. His name is Dr. Charles Lapp, and he's in Charlotte, NC. He is one of the top experts on for that condition in America, and he is absolutely the finest medical professional I have ever dealt with.Teresa hasn't been back to seen him since God healed her on August 25, so we were very excited to tell him what happened. The last time he saw her she was in constant severe pain. She was only able to stand up for about two minutes before feeling like she was going to collapse, and even sitting up was difficult. This time was a completely different story, because now she walks about a mile or two for exercise every day, and all the pain and suffering is goneHere's how the appointment started:Dr. Lapp: “You look great! How are you doing?”Teresa: “Have you ever heard of someone getting healed from Fibromyalgia?”Dr. Lapp: “No I haven't. (he looked surprised and excited).”Teresa: “Well, I have a story to tell you. On August 25, God healed me…”Then she told him the story of what happened. He looked to be both amazed and excited at the same time.He did all of his tests on her, and he just kept laughing because everything was negative. He said he had never seen anything like this before. We said “we haven't either, but it sure is awesome!”Then, he gave her a hug, told her how happy he was for her, and wrote up his report. Here's what he wrote at the end of the report…and I quote:“Assessment: CFS/FM – miraculously resolved!”There's nobody like Jesus.I hope this will help you to believe that God is still doing miracles, and healing people.—————————————————————And now, years later, Teresa is an athlete.  She is at the gym every day doing some extreme workouts that would would put most men in the world to shame.  She is one of the most physically fit people that I know, and that is not an exaggeration. The experience we had the night she was healed started us on a journey.  We began learning more about the Holy Spirit and how He wants to work through natural people to do supernatural things…and set people free from whatever conditions are holding them back. The rest of the writings on this blog are mostly a collection of things that we have learned over the last few years as we began stepping out in faith and ministering to others.  I hope this blesses you and brings encouragement.  God loves you!NealCLICK HERE for Neal & Teresa's BlogI am so grateful to Neal & Teresa for sharing their story so that it can build the faith of so many others. God was so good to them and will be so good to you, too. Keep asking for healing, whether it is for you or a loved one. God hears your prayers. On Monday, Nov. 25 Long Beach State President Jane Close Conoley released a video announcing her retirement at the end of the 2024-2025 academic school year. Conoley became president of CSULB in 2014 and was the first woman to be formally appointed in the school's 75-year history. Beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3 Beach Pride Events will be hosting TV Trivia Night in the University Student Union Ballrooms. They will provide free snacks and refreshments and the top three teams will receive prizes. On Wednesday, Dec. 4 Beach Pride Events is putting on Noontime Concerts with Triptides on the Southwest Terrace of the University Student Union from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This event is free for students and refreshments will be provided while supplies last. The city of Long Beach is facing major financial consequences due to two large settlements made regarding potholes. Noel Laupua fractured her ankle from stepping into a 10-inch wide and 3-inch deep pothole in March 2021 that had been unrepaired since 2015. Long Beach City Council approved a $500,000 settlement for Laupua. The second settlement was made with Eva Vallin who fractured her ankle in multiple potholes outside of a supermarket. This fracture caused Vallin to develop the neurological condition Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. The jury awarded her a settlement of $17.5 million. On Wednesday, Nov. 27 at around 7 p.m. a woman was struck and killed by a Long Beach transit bus. The accident happened on Shoreline Drive where the road merges into the 710 freeway. The woman passed away on the scene and the police have ruled out speed, distracted driving and impaired driving as potential causes of the accident.  This Thanksgiving, a multitude of Democrat and Republican politicians were targeted with bomb threats and swatting attacks. Five of Trump's cabinet appointees as well as five congressmen from the state of Connecticut all received bomb threats at their family residences. Thankfully, everyone was unharmed and no explosives were detonated or found in any of the homes. The famous Parisian Notre Dame Cathedral was destroyed in a fire five years ago in 2019. On Friday, Nov. 29 after years of cleaning, rebuilding and restoration, French President Emmanuel Macron gave the public the first look inside the partially restored building. The British parliament has voted to legalize assisted dying, making the United Kingdom one of the few nations to do so. The passing of this law allows adults with terminal conditions and less than six months to live the choice to take a substance that ends their lives. The patient must be able to make the decision themselves and two doctors and a judge must sign off on the paperwork. Our guest this week is Christine James.  Christine is a mother to two daughters, 19 and 23, a nurse of 8 ½ years and now a chronic pain patient.  She was happy to take the time to speak with us in order to bring awareness to a rare and largely unknown disease: CRPS or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. As a nurse she worked in the fields of home health, acute medical, psych, long term care, dialysis; and has floated to many other units within hospitals. She has worked at the bedside and have also held supervisory positions. Passionate about her career as a nurse, she hopes to get well enough to work again. In her 20's she was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and osteoarthritis of the spine. Over the course of many years she went through many procedures and treatments due to lumbar disc herniations to include six back surgeries- one of which resulted in permanent damage to her L-5/S-1 nerve root resulting in permanent right foot drop, and one of which was a fusion of L-5/S-1 using four screws and two rods. After walking 10 years with foot drop and working as a nurse the instability and condition in her right ankle caused constant swelling and pain which led her to seek further treatment. It was found that her joint was arthritic and the bones were collapsing out of position. Her Achilles tendon was also found to be too tight. On March 11, 2024 she underwent a right Achilles tendon release, tendon transfer to improve foot drop.  Three weeks later the symptoms of CRPS were recognized by her surgeon and she was diagnosed on April 8, 2024. Due to her foundation of knowledge as a nurse and due to her drive to get better, she joined multiple social media platforms in search of how to find the treatment she needed and through that process she also began helping others learn about this disease. When she is feeling healthy, she enjoys many creative hobbies, gardening, and is an avid concertgoer. She has two cats, & lives with her boyfriend in Michigan.  They are currently struggling to make it through this difficult time with her health. Financial issues have become bad enough that she sold personal items, used food pantries, and started a gofundme. She is currently active in Facebook groups and has a TikTok account that she uses to network with others that have CRPS, chronic pain, and chronic illness. She is grateful to participate in the online community in any way to bring awareness and understanding to CRPS sufferers.

Welcome back, dear listeners. On this episode, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Harry Macansh, a speaker and wellness coach who recovered from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) after initially being told that this condition was incurable. He now helps others to recover as well.    Over more than half a decade, Harry has spent upwards of a quarter of a million dollars in the US & Australia acquiring an arsenal of knowledge and modalities that he now affordably delivers to others, both from stage through 1-to-1 coaching.   When Harry reached out to me, I immediately jumped at the chance to connect and chat, because it just so happens that I was preparing to speak onstage about my own chronic pain recovery for the first time, and I'm fascinated by the connection between recovery and the pull to break through that nearly universal human fear of public speaking to share our stories out loud. Harry and I had a brain tingling conversation about this and I'm excited to share it with you. Here we go.   You can find Harry at: https://www.instagram.com/harrymacansh/   And you can find me at: Instagram: @anna_holtzman Email: anna@annaholtzman.com Website: www.annaholtzman.com --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/from-chronic-pain-to-pass/support

Finding God in Our Pain
Unrelenting Pain Known as the Suicide Disease, CRPS with Darci Steiner

Finding God in Our Pain

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 20, 2023 70:51

If you're dealing with overwhelming pain my guest Darci Steiner has a testimony of amazing resilience as she lives out the debilitating affects of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome or CRPS. In her book, Beauty Beyond the Thorns, Darci reveals how God cares for us in the darkest valleys in life. What she shares can benefit anyone who is dealing with pain that makes it seem like there's no way out. While we didn't discuss in detail the medical side of self-care I wanted to mention it now. If you're experiencing a crisis of mental health, emotional health of physical health, consider medical professionals and/or medication (per your doctor) in addition to your faith journey. Unrelenting pain can be a very lonely journey so Darci points us to the One who will never leave nor forsake us. God is always present, always listening and ready to tend to you. CRPS is called the suicide disease because when ranked on a pain scale, CRPS is found to be the highest pain one can feel hence the suicide disease label. People who know this level of unrelenting pain want to escape, permanently. Especially because they're told there is no cure. But God, right? Twenty years ago a fall down the steps ignited Darci's first experience with CRPS. The pain was so great that she did not have an appetite and became malnourished and was dying. Darci shares a little bit about her story of being bedridden for 2 years and the healing journey she experienced. What gripped my heart is that 5 years ago on a very special day for her family, the simple need of having to go back into the venue to grab something that she forgot and a chair topples from a stack and strikes her in the ankle. Immediately the pain seared from the injury and Darci knew she was headed back into CRPS. So at the time of this recording she is living with CRPS once again. She talked about the difference in how she engages God's heart this time. Because of her vulnerability, we get a glimpse of a maturing faith forged in deep pain that produces an intimacy with God that cannot be developed in any other context. One of the ways that Darci's faith matured is that while in God's word she received revelation on the distinction between being and doing. Darci's pain severely limited her ability to engage in some of the most simple things in life…at one point of being bedridden for 2 years, as Darci lay in bed she asked her husband to create a tent over her with the bed sheet because when it touched her skin it caused excruciating pain. As she lay in bed day in and day out she began to question the purpose of living. She couldn't do anything, she wasn't of any help, she couldn't enjoy her young daughters. Life was happening around her but without her. Even today she can only watch her grandchildren with assistance and short intervals. It's in this quiet place of simply being with God that she discovers a whole new level of intimacy with Him. The revelation that His only request for her, for any of us is to be with Him. A weight was lifted and she began to see the beauty of Christ's extravagant love for her in the humble posture of being. One last thing and we'll jump into the conversation with Darci.  I especially loved how Darci shares that in the dark valleys of life God is there. I know we've heard that a thousand times but it's a great reminder that we don't have to go looking for Him. We don't have to pray for Him to find us. We don't have to check off the good Christian checklist for Him to show Himself. He's already there. We simply need to engage Him in the being. If you've been struggling with the thought that a good God would not have you suffer like this I challenge you to reframe that. God is good because despite the reality of the pain in this life, He doesn't abandon or reject us nor does He leave us to figure it out on our own. He enters into our pain with us, comforts us, leads us into healing, and untangles our fears. In short, He gives us His very presence. Darci was the absolute sweetest because despite her pain and my probing questions she has such a deep desire in her heart to share an encouraging message with others who are experiencing unrelenting pain whether it's in their mind/mental health, body/physical health, heart/emotional health. Listen in because Darci does a beautiful job of revealing the heart of God in the context of pain and suffering. Maya Kowalski was ten years old when her father brought her to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in October of 2016. The previous year, Maya had been diagnosed with a rare neurological condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome which caused her excruciating pain. Consistent therapy and ketamine treatments had gotten Maya's condition under control, but she would have flare ups from time to time, and one of these flare ups brought her to the emergency room at All Children's Hospital, complaining of pain in her stomach. Maya would remain at the hospital for the next several months, against the wishes of herself and her parents, lawyers would later say. Her mother Beata Kowalski was accused of neglect and medical abuse, and by the time Maya was finally allowed to go home, her mother was dead, having taken her own life after being forbidden from seeing her sick daughter for 87 days. Maya's family would go on to sue Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, claiming it's actions led to Beata Kowalski taking her own life, devastated that she could not see her daughter and that she was being accused of abusing Maya. The Kowalski family also alleged that Maya was medically kidnapped, battered and abused while in the hospital's care. This episode is an emotional conversation about how hard overcoming physical scars can be. [7:21] - All of us can relate, no matter how big or small the scar or pain is. [9:48] - The journey to acceptance was incredibly challenging. [10:59] - Amberly didn't want anyone to know how much pain she was in and she didn't want anyone to see her scars. [12:43] - She was determined but realized that pushing through the pain was not going to get her anywhere. [17:58] - Amberly's scars remind her of her strength. [19:52] - God doesn't waste pain. [21:49] - We can turn something terrible into something beautiful. [22:54] - Healing comes from sharing from a scar and not from an open wound. [24:09] - Resilience will ensure you rise up, but bad days will still happen. Even now, Amberly continues therapy and community groups. [26:02] - If Amberly had begun posting and sharing content before she had done the healing work, the comments and negativity would have harmed her. [28:03] - There will always be times when confidence can be knocked down. But the healing work is necessary to “snap out of it”. It's okay. We're human. [30:59] - Amberly initially felt a lot of shame about alcoholism, but since she opened up, she has impacted others. [32:18] - Amberly shares the experiences that made it impossible for her to cry. [34:30] - We heal what we reveal. [35:21] - If you think the price of winning is too high, just wait till you get the bill for regret. [36:19] - Fear will always pop up. Sometimes you have to do things scared. [38:21] - Think about the things you have already overcome that were so hard. Thinking back to those experiences will put your current fears into perspective. Laura and Jim interview Andrea Dunlop host of "Nobody Should Believe Me" a podcast about Munchausen by Proxy (also now referred to as Factitious Disorder.) In the UK this is known as Fabricated or Induced illness (FII). Andrea is a member of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children's Munchausen by Proxy committee and the co-founder of Munchausen Support, a resource site for victims. Andrea has been outspoken in her criticism of Beate Kowalski, the mom at the heart of the documentary "Take Care of Maya" who fought so hard to find a treatment for her 9 year old daughter Maya's rare condition of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Laura and Jim discuss the evidence Andrea claims to support her position that Beate abused Maya. Many experts in CRPS treated Maya and confirmed her diagnosis time and time again, as did her own pediatrician Dr. John Wassenaar who submitted a detailed affidavit and who observed Maya before, during and after her release from Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. What if that was only the beginning of a nightmare for your family, as the hospital took custody of your child and held her there against your will for three months, denying you contact? That is what happened to Beate and Jack Kowalski when they took their 10 year old daughter Maya to Johns Hopkins All Children's hospital. Maya had been recovering from an illness called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, when she suddenly relapsed and was forced to seek care from doctors not familiar with her condition, nor its unconventional treatment. Join us as we discuss this important case within the framework of the Netflix documentary “Take Care of Maya” which chronicles the horrific story of a medical system gone out of control and the trauma it inflicted on one family. #MayaKowalski #BeateKowalski #JackKowalski #KyleKowalski #netflix #documentary #ChildAbusePediatrician #AbuseofPower #ComplexRegionalPainSyndrome #ChildhoodIllness Follow us and continue the conversationOn Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/realcrimeprofile/?hl=enOn Twitterhttps://twitter.com/realcrimeprofilOn Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/realcrimeprofile/SUICIDE PREVENTION LIFELINE - CALL 988If you're thinking about suicide, are worried about a friend or loved one, or would like emotional support, the Lifeline network is available 24/7 across the United States.988 is now active across the United States. Amanda Evergreen--also known as the One-Footed Phoenix--joined me to share her story of hope and healing after having her leg amputated below the knee after getting hit by a car on her mission. Amanda walks me through her struggles with mental illness on her mission before getting hit by the car, the negative response she received while on her mission when she couldn't continue to work, and then a 3.5 year struggle with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome before the decision to amputate was made. Amanda spent some time very, very angry with God for letting this happen and wondering why He had allowed this to happen. However, as she's healed, she has been able to see blessings come into her life as a result of being an amputee. She now has a platform where she can regularly help other disabled individuals and share her faith and testimony. While she still has hard days, she sees the Lord's hand in her life still and is grateful that she is still able to reach out and help others and bring them to Christ.Amanda's InformationYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1qNp7VyV-hJ5E4iNUVZ4WgInstagram: @one_footed_phoenixFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/p/One-Footed-Phoenix-100075115887812/

On this week's episode of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, we're joined by Nancy Becher, founder of Invisible Warriors - an organization dedicated to supporting those living with chronic illness, autoimmune issues, and invisible disabilities.  Nancy's own journey with invisible illness began in 2014, when her life took a drastic turn after she was hit by a car. While picking up her parents from a senior center potluck, she was struck by another attendee's car, which caused her to be thrown into a drainage ditch, resulting in twisted tendons, ligaments, and broken bones. The path to diagnosis was a long and arduous one for Nancy, involving visits to multiple doctors and enduring months of physical pain. Eventually, she was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a debilitating condition that causes severe nerve damage. Nancy underwent numerous surgeries, received two spinal stimulators, and encountered countless medical professionals in her quest for relief from the relentless pain. Drawing on her background with a Master's in Counseling and a Ph.D. in sociology, Nancy decided to utilize her knowledge and personal experiences to create Invisible Warriors, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people living with chronic illness, autoimmune issues, and invisible disabilities. The mission of Invisible Warriors is not only to provide assistance and resources to these individuals but also to initiate dialogue with medical professionals and advocate for changes in the insurance, pharmaceutical, and travel industries. Through Invisible Warriors, Nancy aims to create a community where those living with hidden chronic and autoimmune disorders can find solace, support, and a sense of belonging. By sharing her own journey and advocating for systemic changes, Nancy is determined to make a positive impact on the lives of others who are going through similar mental and physical anguish. Nancy is an advocate, who is working towards greater awareness, understanding, and resources for individuals with invisible illnesses. Nancy Becher's resilience and determination to create a supportive community for individuals with chronic illness, autoimmune issues, and invisible disabilities are truly commendable. Through her personal experiences, academic background, and unwavering passion, she has taken on the mission of empowering others and working towards a more inclusive and compassionate society. In this episode, you'll hear: Nancy's inspiring life story; The story of the accident that led to her health issues and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS); How she decided to start Invisible Warriors and why their work is so important; About the people that Nancy and Invisible Warriors are helping; How you can get involved in their work if you're living with an invisible disability or illness;  About the Silent No More Benefit Concert and how you can attend and support the event; And so much more.
