True believers, once again, we're going back to the 70s and the Marvel Age of Comics with an Avengers saga that spans nine-issues (#89 - 97) with the epic "Kree-Skrull War."You'll get whiplash trying to read this saga, so fear not, because we did it for you. All the crazy plot twists, and stuff that could only have happened in a 70s Marvel comic (brainwashed cows are not a joke when it comes to Marvel) make this storyline fun, engaging and a must-read.However, we do hope that after listening to this episode, you'll seek out these issues and read it for yourself! As always, your hosts (the Siskel & Ebert of comic book podcasters) are Brad Page and Chris Karam.
Everybody knows Roy Thomas, right?! Staff writer for Marvel, working on titles like X-Men and The Avengers; launcher of Conan the Barbarian; co-creator of characters such as Man-Thing, Ultron, Carol Danvers, and more; the second editor-in-chief in Marvel's history (after Stan Lee); architect of the "Kree-Skrull War" and other major events; engineer of Marvel's Star Wars adaptation; and so much more! We get to as much of his career as we could, including the oft-debated subject of Wolverine's creation. Buckle up, folks: Roy has a lot to say!____________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you like this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. In 1977 Marvel attempted to answer the important questions with their What If…? line of comics. They Failed. Now in the year of 2023 the Plumbing Boys have picked up the slack and dared to ask once again: What if? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
STREEPS OF FIRE: THE RIVER WILD (1994) WITH BLOOD AND POPCORN'S ERIK! Following Streep's break from heavy roles after 1988's A CRY IN THE DARK, 4 out of 5 of Streep's next movies were sharp-ish turns to comedy (SHE-DEVIL, POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE, DEFENDING YOUR LIFE & DEATH BECOMES HER), with one prestige drama (THE HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS) before she decided it was time for becoming an... action hero? We are still in the midst of Streep's most fascinating period (she would next romance Clint Eastwood in the brilliant BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY). Curtis Hanson (director of LA CONFIDENTIAL) was a master of the mid-budget studio thriller at the time of The River Wild. Once Streep was on board with Hanson, a crack cast around her quickly followed (Kevin Bacon, John C. Reilly, David Strathairn, that one kid from Jurassic Park, a heroic dog, and Benjamin Bratt). It all makes for a relatively satisfying early 90s mid-budget studio thriller about a couple of convicts taking a river guide (Streep) and her family hostage on a river-bound getaway through some gnarly rapids she has a deadly history with. It IS a ridiculous premise but Hanson, to his credit, along with Streep giving more than a script like this deserves, make it work. The River Wild was filmed in a few different location but most of the sedate or passable rapid river scenes were shot in Southern Oregon on the wild and scenic portion of the Rogue River. Co-host Ken and special guest Erik (of the pod Blood and Popcorn) lived in the area at the time and discuss both the river and working at a movie theater when the film was being made AND having most of the stars come through at one point or another. It is always a peculiar thing when Hollywood invades a small town. There is also a quiz about the movie! Usually we do two movies in an episode but we didn't have any Streep-as-action-hero movies to pair this with. We all eagerly await Streep to show up as Commander Azmatron Eleven (first introduced in the classic Kree-Skrull War, Avengers Annual #6 to be exact) in the MCU so she can be in another action movie and we can have a Streep action figure!*THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.Email: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/TGTPTUInstagram: https://instagram.com/thegoodthepodandtheugly?igshid=um92md09kjg0Twitter: https://twitter.com/thegoodthepoda1YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6mI2plrgJu-TB95bbJCW-gBuzzsprout: https://thegoodthepodandtheugly.buzzsprout.com/Letterboxd (follow us!):Ken: Ken KoralJack: jackk1096*there is no such character and we all pray Streep never steps into a green closet to shoot a cameo in a shitty superhero movie, It would tarnish her crown

For an extra 45 minutes of this episode, including Bendis's behind-the-scenes commentary on how Marvel approaches producing comics events, how Secret Invasion came about, Roy Thomas's underrated contributions to the concept of a "shared universe," the fundamentals of good collaboration, the pros and cons of the Marvel Method, and NEAL FREAKIN' ADAMS' pitch for a Secret Invasion follow-up, in his OWN WORDS, subscribe at patreon.com/marvelbythemonth for just $4/month and get access to our bonus feed of more than 50 extended and exclusive bonus episodes, with more being added every week!As for our guest: we're pretty sure that the Venn diagram of "listeners of this podcast" is completely encircled by "people who know who Brian Michael Bendis is," but here's the TL;DR just in case — he's the second-most important writer in Marvel Comics history after Stan Lee.Here's the slightly longer version: Brian Michael Bendis is a five-time Eisner Award-winning comics creator who spent 18 years writing virtually every character in the Marvel Universe, with critically and commercially successful runs on Jessica Jones: Alias, Daredevil, Avengers (Dark, Mighty, New, and original flavor), Moon Knight, X-Men (Uncanny and All-New), Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man (Invincible, International, and Infamous), and Defenders. He was one of the chief architects of Marvel's Ultimate Universe, writing story arcs for Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four, Ultimate Power, Ultimate Origins, and every single issue of Ultimate Spider-Man. His 111-consecutive-issue run on Ultimate Spider-Man with Mark Bagley holds the record for longest continuous writer/artist partnership in Marvel Comics history.Bendis was also the driving creative force behind Marvel's biggest events of the 21st century, including House of M, Civil War, Secret Invasion, Dark Reign, Siege, Avengers vs. X-Men, Age of Ultron, X-Men: Battle of the Atom, and Civil War II. With his artistic collaborators, he's responsible for co-creating some of Marvel's most significant new characters of the last two decades, including Miles Morales, Jessica Jones, Maria Hill, Ronin, Riri "Ironheart" Williams, and Daisy "Quake" Johnson. That doesn't even include his creator-owned work, currently being published by Dark Horse Comics, which includes Joy Operations, Pearl, United States vs. Murder, Inc., Scarlet, Cover, Powers, and the Jinxworld line of crime comics (Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, and Torso). He's also writing some "detective comics" about a league of justice or superhero legion or something, but we weren't able to find any information about that. Sony's continued attempts to turn Spider-Man villains into solo movies led us to give a chance to El Muerto in a two-part Spider-Man story called “Masks”! Space Base where Nick Fury gives them a ship to intercept the Skrull Armada Tony tries to gossip about Vision and Wanda but nobody has time for that The Avengers use a trick where their ship visually looks like a whole armada but it ends up only showing as a single ship on radar, so a single Skrull ship investigates Iron Man thirst poses aggressively at the Skrull Thor, Vision, and Iron Man take on the lone ship Meanwhile, Captain Marvel has agreed to work on the Omni-Wave Projector for the King Dorrek VII in order to save Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch Mar is tricksy and instead made a holographic projector, and ambushes the guards. Dorrek panics and orders “Execute Plan Delta” Vision has a TNG: Data moment and nearly beats a guard to death, but Iron Man and Thor pull him off Leather Daddy Clint is the sole Avenger left in a fightercraft so he boards the ship, but runs out of ideas Ronan villain monologues to Rick Jones but Rick is teleported to the Supreme Intelligence Supreme Intelligence explains that it’s been behind everything the whole time… Supreme Intelligence then shunts Rick back to the Negative Zone Avengers 97: “Godhood’s End!” Rick ponders life in the Negative Zone, visually excellent Annihilus attacks Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch buy Captain Marvel time to use the Omni-Wave Anelle tries to convince Dorrek to chill, but he’s never been chill about anything Mar destroys the Omni-Wave Rick escapes the Negative Zone through a portal, the Supreme Intelligence informs that it’s now time for Rick to glow up Ronan, Public Accuser tries to murder Rick and the Supreme Intelligence but Rick summons a ton of old Marvel heroes to fight for him Rick then deus ex machina’s all Kree and Skrull by freezing them all in place G.W. Craddock was a skrull all along and when that is revealed the crowd vents their rage, tearing him limb from limb Supreme Intelligence tells Rick that Rick isn’t important, any ol’ human would have done Captain Marvel thinks about Anelle. This brief moment is the entire basis for Empyre… one sentence… that’s it Supreme Intelligence teleports everyone home, real Craddock clears the Avengers of all charges and… that’s it Creators of these issues: Roy Thomas, Neal Adams, John Buscema, Tom Palmer, Sam Rosen, Alan Weiss, Gil Kane, Bill Everett, Stan Lee Find us on Twitter @ArtifactsOfI and ArtifactsOfInfinity.com
David Wright joins Van to dig into the epic "Kree-Skrull War" from Avengers 89-97 in the early 1970s, by Roy Thomas, Neal Adams and Sal Buscema, with tons of guest stars including Captain Mar-Vell, the Inhumans, the Fantastic Four, and more. It's a classic bit of Marvel history, but does it hold up as a good Avengers story? We discuss!
Presented by The CSPN… This week, Agent_70 and Roddykat reach back into the annals of comic history to talk about a classic event in the history of the Marvel Universe. My recording sounds like it's in a tincan and we couldn't get it fixed in time to release. Sorry about that. -JonathanEpisode 11: Skrulled into a False Sense Today we’ll be covering Avengers 92-94, the confrontation of the Kree-Skrull WarDramatis Personae: PROTAGONISTS Anelle Captain Marvel - Mar-Vell Carol Danvers Rick Jones Avengers Captain America - Steve Rogers Goliath - Clint Barton Iron Man - Tony Stark Jarvis Quicksilver - Pietro Maximoff Scarlet Witch - Wanda Maximoff Thor - Thor Odinson Vision Wasp - Janet Van Dyne Yellowjacket/Ant-Man - Hank Pym S.H.I.E.L.D. Warren Craddock Mandroids Skrull Empire Emperor Dorrek VII Super-Skrull - Kl’rt Skrull Posing as a Cow & Human Torch Skrull Posing as a Cow & Mr. Fantastic Skrull Posing as a Cow & The Thing Kree Empire Ronan the Accuser Sentry 459 Preface: We’ve been covering this story in three parts, this is part two If you’re new, we recommend starting with the prior episode Empyre is coming up and all of that drama starts with the Kree-Skrull War Avengers 92: “All Things Must End!” Wanda flirts with Vision by dressing like him Normal life at Avengers Mansion is interrupted when Jarvis bursts into the room. He announces that someone leaked the Kree plot to turn back Earth’s evolution (see last episode) Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are definitely Mutants Goliath and his fabulous outfit come in and they are a whole lot. He thought everyone had agreed to keep those events a secret. The Avengers turn on the TV and see that H. Warren Craddock has been appointed head of the Alien Activities Commission, a comic counterpart to Joseph McCarthy’s House Committee on Internal Security. Also, with modern history for context it’s even more uncomfortable Mar-Vell and Rick Jones walk in and Mar offers to give himself over to the authorities. No one agrees except CLINT FREAKING BARTON… freaking guy… Vision, however, is having none of it and rightly points out how wrongly detaining anyone injured everyone A helicopter flies in piloted by Carol Danvers, as she crashes first Captain Marvel then Vision breaks her fall. Basically this scene is a mess. Captain Marvel’s powers are wildly inconsistent. A lot is happening and none of it really works Carol is saved but Wanda is concerned about her boy-toy Vis. Vision, however, as after pausing for dramatic timing, he re-emerges unscathed. SHIELD planes buzz Avengers Mansion searching for Mar-Vell. Carol and Mar slip out and head to Upstate NY to hide out. Mar is concerned that running will only confirm his guilt but Vision points out that he’s already been found guilty in the court of public opinion SHIELD tries to pursue but the Quinjet is too fast. Craddock yells at Fury for letting them escape in a prescient call-out of President Bush Sr. after his appointment to UN Ambassador in 1971 Fury chastises Craddock in the most important exchange in this issue Rick Jones has feelings about the complication of modern heroes. I find this really interesting having been through the 90’s emergence of Image comics and how the lack of this greyness was a large argument for the creation of Image. Clint sees a fight break out outside the mansion and heads out to break it up but it was staged to be able to serve a court summons. The Avengers head to court where Craddock is the worst… The testimony of Craddock’s witnesses is… slanted… to say the least. Reed Richards gives some good advise but BEN FREAKING GRIMM slags the Avengers hard Vision tries to testify but Craddock dismisses him out of hand for just being a robot… what a jerk Rick Jones gets a telepathic whammy from Mar-Vell, he’s under attack and Rick races off to help When they arrive at Avengers Mansion they find Jarvis distraught and the mansion trashed Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor show up and declare the current Avengers unfit, and disband them. Avengers 93: “This Beachhead Earth” Vision staggers into the Mansion and collapses, begging for help before shutting off Ant-Man shows up and explains that Vision isn’t dead, just needing some help There is a great bit where Ant-Man faces off against Vision’s immune system, Adams is an artistic LEGEND for a reason! As Vision wakes up he chastises the founders for breaking up the team but they have no memory of doing that. A mystery is afoot Team Drama because Vision/Wanda/Pietro each being too dramatic Remember the cows from Episode 1? The Skrull Cows we swore would never show up again? THEY SHOW UP AGAIN! WE ARE LIARS YA’LL! Skrull-McDoubles pose as the F4 and attack Captain Marvel and Carol Danvers have been captured by some Skrull Mar tries to escape. He recognizes that even though he’s been banished he’s still got to report whats going on with the Skrull on Earth. Our heros demolish the Cow-Skrull like some Double Doubles and then fail to stop the Skrull ship from escaping as it flees the farmhouse. Avengers 94: “More than Inhuman!” Super-Skrull nukes the Inhuman’s home but a forcefield protects it. He’s ticked Kl’rt decides to trade Mar-Vell for an end to his banishment Emperor Dorrek is afraid that Kl’rt is trying to usurp the throne… Anelle continues to be our favorite Emperor Dork tortures Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver to get Captain Marvel to fold which works, he’ll help build the Skrull a powerful weapon with Kree tech H. Warren Craddock is also the worst He unveils the Mandroids, basically people piloting armor suits to fight the Avengers. Iron Man uses his superior Roller-Derby tactics to demolish the Mandroids though, fear not. As all of this is going on, Triton climbs out of a manhole seeking help! Episode 10: How do you Solve a Problem like Muh-Kree-A Today we’ll be covering Avengers 89-91, the opening act of the Kree-Skrull WarDramatis Personae: Captain Marvel - Mar-Vell Rick Jones Dr. Donaldson Mordecai P. Boggs Annihilus The Kree Supreme Intelligence Ronan the Accuser Sentry 459 Super-Skrull - Kl’rt (Flashback) Medic Una (Flashback) Avengers Quicksilver - Pietro Maximoff Vision Scarlet Witch - Wanda Maximoff Captain America - Steve Rogers Thor - Thor Odinson Iron Man - Tony Stark Goliath - Clint Barton Jarvis Wasp - Janet Van Dyne Yellowjacket - Hank Pym Fantastic Four Mr. Fantastic - Reed Richards Human Torch - Johnny Storm Invisible Woman - Susan Richards The Thing - Ben Grimm Inhumans Randac (Flashback) Preface: - We’ll be covering this story in three parts. - Everett is really good a planning this stuff out, our prior episodes lead perfectly to this - We’re heading into Empyre this spring and this is where it all startsAvengers 89: Chapter One - The Only Good Alien… This issue is potentially confusing as it contains a flashback but doesn’t let on right away. The issue opens in-medias-res, which means we’re in the middle of the story. Captain Marvel skulks through the Florida night. Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Vision of The Avengers catch up with him and try to convince him to come with them but he won’t Mar fights them off but refuses to hit Scarlet Witch because of his acquired Earth prejudice of not hitting women. Rick Jones kill steals from the Avengers, blasting Mar with a ray gun. The Avengers & Rick bring Mar to the Quinjet where Wanda and Vision have a discussion on how Mutants and Aliens are both unwelcome on Earth which bums Vision out They land at Cape Kennedy Hospital where the Avengers rush Mar to see Dr. Donaldson. Mar is strapped into the chair. Rick feels responsible for the situation and as the machine crackles to life, BEGINNING THE FLASHBACK. While Captain Marvel was trapped in the Negative Zone he witnessed Reed Richards escape back to our world. These events are from Fantastic Four 109. Mar convinced Rick to go to the Baxter Building. Rick and the Captain swap bodies and Captain Marvel breaks into the Baxter Building because the Fantastic Four aren’t home (they are off fighting Psyklop) but the break-in summons the Avengers. Mar manages to activate the portal to the Negative Zone and frees Rick Jones so they are both back Earthside. While the portal is open, Annihilus escapes into our world but he’s quickly tricked back through the portal. While that was going on, Captain Marvel escaped in the Quinjet and headed to Miami. Quicksilver notices a radiation sensor that Captain Marvel was standing near is reading through the roof. It seems Captain Marvel has absorbed a huge amount of Negative Radiation. He’ll die, or worse, blow up the world, if he doesn’t get treatment soon! They only have three hours to resolve this before catastrophe. END OF FLASHBACK They made it in time. They fire up the machine but it doesn’t have the power to decontaminate Mar, so Vision straps into it to boost its power with his Solar Energy. It works but both Vision and Mar-Vell are exhausted from the ordeal. As this is going on, in the hall of the Kree Supreme Intelligence Ronan the Accuser overthrows the Kree, becoming the Emperor. He’s extremely Pro-Kree Ethno-Fascist. This is very bad you guys. He activates Sentry 459 to try to kill Captain Marvel again… It’s really hard being Sentry 459 and we feel bad for it, but 459 can’t resist orders and thus begins trashing Cape Kennedy. Avengers 90: Chapter 2 - Judgement Day! Shout Out to one of the best Title Pages we’ve covered yet, Sentry 459 breaks through the Bleed and into the panel as we see the hospital room where Captain Marvel remains unconscious. Negative space draws your eye in immediately and highlights the title. GREAT! Sentry 459 is hesitant to attack, it doesn’t know what the Avengers are all about so Scarlet Witch capitalizes by blasting the ceiling. As it collapses on 459 Quicksilver assaults it but gets caught with a backhand Android battles Android as Vision begins battling. They crush through the floor but Sentry 459 flies up through the hole and scoops up Captain Marvel as they then teleport away declaring that it is activating Plan Atavus! Carol Danvers shows up asking the avengers to sign paperwork. It’s an excuse to recap what’s happened before. If you’re curious, listen episodes 1-9, lol Vision comforts Rick saying that superheroes are often misfits: Captain America is an Anachronism, Thor is a Space-God, Iron Man hides his true identity The Avengers head home long enough to receive a message from Goliath, he got a call from Hank and Janet Pym about trouble in Alaska. The Avengers spring into action, running over Jarvis on the way out In Alaska, Goliath finds Jan, who is besides herself explaining that while they were investigating the effects of oil-drilling on Alaskan Wildlife (hint: it’s bad) FLASHBACK BEGINS A foot long dragonfly buzzed by and Hank took control of it. He and Jan discover a large structure in the middle of a section of tropical jungle. They reach the outskirts of the jungle but Hank says that he’s figured out what’s going on and HE KNOCKS JAN OUT WITH A BACKHAND, STRAPS HER TO THE DRAGONFLY, AND SENDS HER BACK TO CAMP!!! DARNIT HANK!!! FLASHBACK ENDS Clint then condescends to Jan who claps back that the dragonfly, who perished in the attempt to save her, isn’t a bad dream. Go Janet Van Dyne! Goliath heads to the jungle and is attacked by a large monster. He knocks the beast out but gets shot in the back by Ronan’s Universal Weapon! OH SNAP! The Avengers arrive with Janet and get surprised by an attack by Sentry 459. Goliath has been brainwashed off-panel and they attack the Avengers. Wasp gets knocked out again, man, she’s going to need a ton of brain-scans. Ronan monologues to Captain Marvel who he has in the structure, and explains that his plan is to wind the clock back on humanity by returning them to caveman status Avengers 91: Chapter 3 - Take One Giant Step Backward! A savage Hank Pym, under effect of the devolution beams, clubs Jan… I can’t even with this nonsense… he declares Janet pretty and drags her off Ronan believes that Cave-Hank want to mate, Captain Marvel chides Ronan into further monologues covering stuff we’ve covered before Meanwhile, Rick throws a rock at Sentry 459 which Wanda turns magnetic, confusing the Sentry and giving everyone time to take out Goliath, despite Quicksilver being terrible at fighting Sentry 459 recovers and takes out Vision and Scarlet Witch forcing Quicksilver and Rick to flee Sentry 459 gets some pathos recounting how he doesn’t hate the Avengers and he isn’t proud but he has to obey. Ronan binds Vision and Wanda in power nullifying energy shackles. They start to kiss but Vision is way too emo for that Ronan ships WandaVision We’re returned to Cave-Hank and Jan. A bunch of other cavemen want to steal Jan and Cave-Hank fends them off Ronan reveals that he actually plans on turning everyone back to amoebas. Quicksilver escapes and Ronan tortures Wanda to punish Vision… should I get a refrigerator yet? As the climax builds and the Ronan, Avengers, Captain Marvel confrontation builds to a head, they are interrupted by a message to Ronan. The Kree Galaxy is under attack by the Skrull Galaxy. Sentry 459 is left behind here while everyone else returns home. Hank is shaken by everything and quits the Avengers, Janet follows suit, and they depart. Captain Marvel Movie Review Amy Dallen and Perri Nemiroff bring you a non-spoiler review of the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel. Brie Larson leads the film as Carol Danvers, a fighter pilot who finds herself in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. At the start of the film, she’s a Kree warrior fighting with a Special Forces-like group known as Star Force in the Kree-Skrull War. She doesn’t remember her human past but ultimately, winds up crash landing back on Earth and that’s where she runs into MCU mainstay Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and also starts to tap back into her former life as an Air Force pilot. Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and also stars Lashana Lynch, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Gemma Chan, and Clark Gregg. The movie is set to hit theaters on March 8th. We’ve been talking about a lot of “Event” comics recently, and this week we’re going back to what could arguable be called the first big Marvel event, the Kree-Skrull War from Avengers 89-97. We’re splitting it up into two parts, reading issues 89-93 this time, plus the continuation of our Secret Wars read with issue 8. Two different Marvel events in one episode? They said it couldn't be done. Next Time: Kree-Skrull War Conclusion! (Avengers 94-97)

Sean answers your Marvel questions!0:52 Jim ScroggsSince Peter has officially met Nick Fury in the FFH trailer, do you think that at some point we'll see Peters Parents as SHIELD agents in a flashback or to make it even more comic book-y, they were never dead to begin with3:19 Jessica LoutfiHi Sean. Hope all is well with yourself and the patrons. It has been fun to be a part of the discord community. I am wondering if you had ever given any thought to the origins of the Marvel comics in regards to their mythological equals. For example, Thor and the Norse Myths. I wonder if you have a take on the Greek mythological figure Thanatos, whom has many similarities to Thanos and how myths play into the stories we enjoy. Thanks for everything you do!6:28 Brian WhiteHi Sean. I'm about a week behind on podcasts so this might have been answered by the time I catch up but I'm curious and confused about all the fan theories assuming Secret Invasion is an obvious next step. As you've commented, that kind of story requires years of setup. It was much more intuitive to me to assume that the next Avengers movie or Captain Marvel 2 would be Kree/Skrull War. Surely, Carol is not going to wrap that whole thing up in the first Captain Marvel movie. She's going to need her new Avengers team mates to help her no matter how powerful she is. This event could accomplish again what Infinity War did, bringing the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America together in the backdrop of a space adventure. What do you think? Thanks!10:45 Woo S! KimIf I am just a casual cinema goer and I just heard from friends the storylines of the comics: “House of M” “Avengers v. X-Men” and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” don't all those storylines sound about the same, myself being a geek, I know they are different. Do you think it would be the correct move since cinema goers and hardcore geeks have seen one live action version of The Dark Phoenix that did not go over so well and one that hasn't even debuted in cinemas that is all ready getting artistic mud thrown at it, wouldn't it make sense when Feige has creative control over the X-Men to do a “House of M” film first since a lot of people have gotten to know Scarlet Witch and perhaps will have more emotional investment because of her Disney Plus series storyline and then in let's say for argument sake five years just lump “The Dark Phoenix” and “Avengers v. X-Men” storylines together adapt both stories into an “Avengers v. X-Men” film, what say you, Sean? 15:23 Woo S! KimYou Sean are one of the few people I have heard give Nicole Pearlman credit for what she contributed to the first “Guardians of The Galaxy” film now this could be a non-issue especially if Marvel Studios and or whomever directs the third Guardians of The Galaxy film decides to use James Gunn script and makes miniscule changes to it. For argument sake, let's say Marvel Studios doesn't like James Gunn's script for whatever reason, would Nicole Pearlman in your point of view be a good person to bring into write a new draft of “Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3” because of her work on the first film or would it be too much of a challenge because her initial interpretation of the Guardians is perhaps too far and away from what James Gunn has established?17:35 Woo S! KimThis is just speculation on my part, but I have seen on a lot of Marvel Comics social media, a lot of advertising with the Fantastic Four. My question is with the Disney/FOX deal potentially closing very soon, is this just Marvel Comics slowly reintroducing Marvel's first family and X-Men characters into the comics because they just want to be in the words of Lion King's Scar to be prepared when Fantastic Four and X-Men come back into the fold or could there be something more there we fans aren't seeing, to be fair and no pun intended with the not seeing when Daredevil's rights came back to Marvel in 2012, Marvel slowly starting reintroducing him to the comics proper, same with Ghost Rider, what are your thoughts, Sean?19:40 brentacPrimeDo you think any characters that were snapped will come back only to die again in Endgame? If so, any guesses?22:07 Tom DeMicheleDo you think the next person to play Matt Murdock should be a blind actor? I think casting actors with disabilities is the next step in representation, and discussion on this topic is ongoing. Actors like Bryan Cranston and Tessa Thompson have been met with criticism for portraying characters with disabilities. Perhaps for logistical and safety reasons, a non-blind stunt person can do the more complicated action scenes, with a blind actor portraying Matt for everything else. Your thoughts, Sean?24:17 Hector Giovanni NavarreteHey Sean! Hope everyone is having a good weekend!Have you seen every MCU film's special features? And if so (or from the ones you have seen) which film's special features are your personal favorite(s) and why?27:01 AlexSean with “Glass” already have come out I thought I should ask you a question regarding the director dubbed the King of The Twist(for better or worse) and was once dubbed(prematurely) as “the next Spielberg” himself M. Night Shyamalan(forgive me if I misspelled his name) M. Night Shyamalan is one of the most polarizing directors working today but I still like most of Shymalan's films(yes even The Village) and Unbreakable I think is masterpiece and kind of shows he has in him for a superhero flick. So first of all, what do you think of him as a filmmaker and what Marvel property do you think he'd be the best fit for?28:39 AlexIf ‘Into The Spiderverse' was a live-action film do you think Tobey McGuire would be able to pull off an older, jaded, scluby Peter mentoring Miles Morales or do you think they'd be better off going with someone else or just casting Jake Johnson(the voice actor who played Peter in the movie)? Personally I'd be curious to see Tobey McGuire play a Peter Parker who's at a different stage of his life than the one he played Peter in the Riami trilogy. It'd almost be like asking Micheal Keaton(Keaton's is a much better actor than McGuire IMO) to come back to play the older version of Bruce Wayne mentoring Terry McGinnis.29:57 AlexI recently happened upon an interview with Dan Slott with SY FY Wire in which he blatantly confirms what we all suspected - The Disney/Fox deal is the primary reason Marvel revived the FF comics. Granted we all knew months before the Disney/Fox deal that FF was cancelled because of the film rights situation because Jonathan Hickman basically confirmed that the comics were canceled over the film rights still being at Fox(they canceled the comic the same year Fan4stic was released), and not because of the Marvel PR story about the comic having “low sales” but it just irks me that Marvel can be so petty but how do you feel about it? Do you think Marvel was in the right to cancel the comic because they don't own the film rights and they don't want to support a potentially bad movie like Fan4stic(which actually did turn out bad by the way) by not giving it any promotion whatsoever? Why didn't they cancel the X-Men comic over the same thing since back then those rights were also at Fox?36:37 Paul ShearmanHey Sean and patrons, hope everyone has had a great week so far. Having now seen the international trailer for Spider-Man Far From Home, we know that Peter has his original Homecoming costume with him when he's is Europe. And we have also now seen the red and black costume being worn in Europe- which from the early set photos last year made it look like he was just wearing it in New York (to me at least). So I'm curious who he gets this suit from, as I expect Nick Fury will provide the stealth suit he gets - but the red and black costume looks absolutely like a Tony Stark design. We know Happy Hogan is in the movie and we also see Happy talking to Peter in what looks - possibly- like the cabin of a private jet (when he says to Peter ‘you're alone').So, could Happy provide Peter with the red and black costume, and would that therefore indicate Tony created it, and was still alive after Endgame (although I guess he could just as easily have made it prior to any possible death in Endgame). As always, would welcome your thoughts on this Sean, and hope you and all the patrons enjoy the rest of your weekend.39:39 Hector Giovanni NavarreteOk, so the topic and question I'm about to bring up is in no way meant to be insensitive or to cause any sort of controversy, at all. It's more to just get a different perspective on the matter as well as to share a little bit of my own opinion. What is your opinion of the recent Hollywood trend to link directors to movies with the same race/sex as the leads in those films? Mostly it's become/becoming a trend in the superhero genre. Examples: Black Panther, Wonder Woman, and others that haven't been released or announced yet like Black Widow and Shang Chi.Now, I am not saying it's a bad trend, in fact I have enjoyed immensely the diversity in front of and behind the cameras for these films recently.I guess I also feel, though, that just like for years movies in general, as well as superhero ones, have been helmed by Caucasian males; is it not seen as “right” in today's society for films with a Caucasian lead to be directed by a director of different race/sex? For example can't there be like a Captain America or Iron Man movie directed by say a Ryan Coogler? And just like for many years women led films have also been helmed by male directors. How about a woman directing a male led film? I loved the idea that was thrown around a while ago for Patty Jenkins to direct a Superman movie. Those are just some superficial examples. I hope I made sense and didn't cause a stir. I honestly would just like to talk about this topic in a respectful and sensitive way. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Sean answers your Marvel questions!01:32 Woo S! KimAfter seeing what has happened on Marvel Television series' this past year and I didn't believe you fully for years, Sean. Whether it be on Superhero News, on this podcast when it was called “Making Mine Marvel” or when you rebranded the podcast to its current name that the Marvel TV universe wasn't fully connected with the MCU proper universe, I concede your point, you were correct and I was incorrect perhaps this may change after the Disney/FOX perhaps it will, possibly it may not. My question is there are so many names for humans with powers in Marvel right now and there will be a famous name that Disney will be able to use in the very near future, I am currently starting Season Two of “The Runawayz” what would you call the characters that have powers on that series? Going back to my earlier statement could one call them Mutants because my geek mind is remembering that there are some Mutants that get their powers not through natural genetic mutation, would you be alright with Marvel TV using the name Mutants, even though certain characters will never reference the or team up with the X-Men? Or would you prefer Marvel TV using the term that Captain Rogers used in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” “Enhanced.” Me personally there are so many different types of humans with powers in Marvel, and there is going to be even more in two years in the MCU, unless they are identified as an Inhuman etc. I just call a human with powers, a “Hybrid Human.” I may have gotten that name from a Marvel comic, I can't recall. What are your thoughts, Sean?5:38 Woo S! KimI remember before “Avengers Infinity War” you did not like the idea of the Iron Spider armour from the source material being brought over into the MCU reason being because you said the color scheme from the comics Iron Spider looked too similar from Iron Man's Red and Gold armour, being that Feige and his team differentiated the MCU version from the comics, do you like the Iron Spider Armor in “Avengers: Infinity War?” Also, do you think the Iron Spider armor is a nanotech attachment I just say that because of how the armor connected with Spidey above Earth's atmosphere and how Spidey's armor looks almost exactly like Iron Man's Nanotech Armor, especially how their helmets come on and off in “Avengers: Infinity War” Lastly, I would prefer in future Avengers films, if Tom Holland's Spidey is going to stick around for the long haul, that he use some version of The Iron Spider armor, what say you, Sean?08:28 Woo S! KimSelfishly after seeing the “Captain Marvel” Special Look on January 7th, after seeing Captain Danvers in the tavern with Nick Fury, I want Thor to survive the Battle with Thanos so we can see a drinking contest between Captain Danvers v. Thor in a future Avengers film, I think Captain Danvers has a good chance of out drinking Thor, what are your thoughts Sean?09:22 Paul ShearmanHey Sean and patrons hope you're all well this week. So, Spider-Man Far From Home trailer - wow! I won't post spoilers in case people haven't seen it yet, but I loved it. The stand out question for me, of course, is - pre or post snap?Im sure you'll be covering the whole trailer (this would be very weird if you didn't!) and I'm looking forward to catching your video reaction later on (one bit in particular at the end I'm sure will be really fun to watch your reaction!).Thanks for your time Sean, and enjoy the rest of your week everyone!13:43 Zachary KleinsasserHey Sean and fellow patrons! Hope everyone is having a great week. I had a thought during your Spider-Man rant on the January 11th Daily Bugle. If Marvel is in talks to purchase Spider-Man and bring him back home, what happens to the ‘Into the Spiderverse' Franchise. I loved that movie and it propelled Miles's and Peter's Spidermen to the top of my favorite lists. I would hate to see the potential for what that universe could be go away. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks for all that you do!17:22 Alex WardHi Sean and patrons! Great talking with many of you in Discord yet again this week! I was wondering, do you think Marvel Studios will treat X-Men like the Guardians in terms of having their own team-movie series from the get-go, or will they more likely set them up as their own sub-franchise like the Avengers, where we see separate movies first (maybe, in this case, Wolverine, Storm, Brotherhood of Mutants, etc.) come together for an event "X-Men" movie? Or are the characters too interdependent on each other to standalone, at least through Marvel Studios' perspective? I can't help but think Marvel Studios has bigger plans for X-Men than many of us expect!21:11 Spencer ToycenHey there, Sean! Just a quick question regarding the Kree-Skrull War and possible MCU storylines. Is there any room for Rick Jones in the MCU? He's been a sidekick to everyone, most notably sharing atoms with Mar-Vell, but there's zero chance he'll show up in couple months. Thanks for the podcast and all the hard work!23:42 Alex WardWhat do you think is implied by the construction scene in the Far From Home trailer, and what do you hope it means? https://twitter.com/CharlesMurphTHS/status/1085244708094382084?s=1927:46 AlexSo Sean, it just dawned on me that there could be some problems with bringing the X-Men and Fantastic Four instead the same world. Particularly since the X-Men are traditionally hated and disliked while the FF are traditionally beloved. I get that there is difference between being a mutant like Charles Xavier and a mutate like Reed Richards but would people in real life really even care to make that distinction? Why would the public fear and detest Mutants like Scott Summers and Jean Grey while at the same time revere Mutates who are arguably freakier than a lot of Mutants like Mr. Fantastic — who can stretch? And especially The Thing who's literally the most freakish of them all? Why are the FF not even commonly mistaken for Mutants when there's already an overlap between them and the Mutants? These are serious logic questions that Feige and his team have to address in order to make the integration of these characters they're getting from Fox believable. 32:40 Alexif Peyton Reed were to be offered a choice between directing the first ever MCU Fantastic Four or directing the third installment of Ant-Man which do you imagine he'd choose over the other? I'm sure you know as well I do that Peyton has always expressed interest in directing FF and he was even tapped to direct the movie as far as the earl 2000's before he left over creative differences. Reed in a recent Colider Q&A for Ant-Man & The Wasp pointed out that Feige was there as an assistant developing the movie so Feige is aware of Reed's interest in the property therefore making him a very strong candidate to direct FF. It would be interesting for things to come full circle and he ends up directing the film but my problem is I'm no fan of Reed(the director, not the stretchy guy) and would much rather have an independent new director who brings something new to the table like Ryan Coogler, Jon Watts, Chloé Zhao and Cate Shortland. Sure the Russo's started out making Captain America films before helming two big Avengers films but that should be the exception to the rule and I'd still much prefer a different director take over director duties for the FF.37:42 David RosenHey Sean and Friends! Another week, another MCU trailer. It looks like Sony/Marvel tried to do their best in terms of not giving away when this movie takes place, including photo-shopping Peter's passport to remove all the years, including when it was issued as it seems Peter is picking up it up from a Passport office and that would give it away (although I wonder if he didn't need one to go Germany in Civil War). However, I was wondering if Nick Fury's clothes might also give away something, as he's back in his black outfit, which we haven't seen him wear since CA: Winter Soldier. Since he was still wearing street clothes in the Infinity Way post-credits scene, is the fact that he's back in black a clue that this takes place after Avengers, End Game?40:47 Alex WardOne major Avenger we haven't seen onscreen yet is She-Hulk, but I suspect this partially has to do with the Universal deal, and partially to do with her somewhat-sexist superhero name. Do you think it's possible that if Bruce dies in Endgame or gets "cured," that the next Hulk will be Jennifer Walters (perhaps dropping the "She-")?42:07 Brett HeierHey Sean! I just watched the Spiderman Far From Home trailer, I thought it looked amazing. In one scene Nick Fury and someone else are shooting at the Earth elemental. The other person looked similar to Maria Hill. Do you agree or think that is someone else. Another thing, when Mysterio shows up his powers seem very real, I know he's a special effects master but his powers looked similar to Dr. Strange's. Also, do you think maybe the elementals are just projections by Mysterio so he can look like a hero? Finally, there has been a lot of talk about there being a Sif show. Personally, I would love to see that. I know you would rather have her in a Valkerye show, but what are your thoughts about sif's possible show and her absence from Thor Ragnarok. As always, thanks for having an awesome podcast!47:24 Michael Louis WeaselboyHey Sean I how is your week going?? I hope it is well. So I just watched the Spiderman Far From Home Trailer I loved seeing Mysterio for that brief second and the action looks cool as well. One think I am wondering about tho is what is Vultures role in it?? We know Michael Keaton is in the movie but do you think he has a brief cameo or maybe just a bit part? Thoughts??49:12 AlexWhat are the chances of Nick Fury actually be the Chameleon in disguise who's in cahoots with Mysterio?51:01 Xavier ArquerosHi Sean and fellow Patrons. So I'm going to L.A. in early May and I want to see Avengers Endgame in the best movie theatre possible. I would love a Dolby Cinema or a great IMAX screen. Thanks Sean, keep the good work.53:51 Hector Giovanni NavarreteHey Sean and fellow Patrons! So with Nick Fury appearing at the end of IW and potentially coming back in AE, starring in CM, as well as being in SM FFH, and that rumor that said he was either going to be in a D+ series or lead one; do you believe he is going to have an important role in the MCU moving forward past AE and into Phase 4 (if that's what it's called)? If so, how do you think he will be used? I'm glad that he is coming back after a long absence after AoU!55:58 Derek BeebeHi Sean, this is my first time Qing for your A, so I apologize if this has already been done. What do you think of the current Marvel cartoons? (Avengers, Spider-Man, GOTG) Are you watching them on the reg? I just read an article rumoring they're about to cancel all the series for the Disney Plus switch. Do you know anything about that?57:25 Derek BeebeWhat did you think of the last generation of Marvel cartoons? (Avengers EMH, Spectacular Spiderman, Wolverine and X-Men, Iron Man Armored Adventures) I was particularly enamored with AEMH and SSPM!57:29 Derek BeebeWhat's your opinion of the 90s Spider-Man and X-Men series? Those were my introduction to the comics and they hold a special place in my heart, though both had terrible final seasons.58:46 Derek BeebeWhy would Peter know who Nick Fury is in Far From Home? Isn't he a secret spy? (you answered this in Discord but I figure it makes for good radio)1:00:17 Derek BeebeWhat's your opinion on when Far From Home takes place?1:00:30 Derek BeebeIf Mysterio is an American character, what's his excuse for showing up when these monsters attack in Europe?1:00:57 AlexWhat do you think about my idea of when the MCU X-Men happens the they have the X-Men get in the colorful comic-accurate costumes and MCU Wolverine laments the fact that they wear such flashy costumes only for MCU Scott to respond with,"What would you prefer black1 leather spandex?" See what I did there?1:01:29 AlexHow would you handle the FF's celebrity status in the MCU if they might potentially will appearing in the MCU as modern day heroes after the Avengers and Spider-Man have shown to be big superhero celebrities already?1:03:25 AlexWhen discussing the prospect of ending the era of the MCU that started in 2008 with ''Iron Man" Feige cited The Star Trek Next Generation series finale ''All Good Things..'' as a reference for how to wrap up a series. Though obviously the MCU will continue past Endgame have you for curiosity's sake checked out that episode of Trek and I realize I'm asking you this question not knowing whether or not you're a Star Trek fan. When Feige mentioned that episode he pointed out that episode wasn't about death but about the finality it brought to the characters --namely Picard in which he pointed out that character started playing poker with the rest of crew which should've done earlier. While obviously that doesn't mean nobody will die since Fiege was merely using that as an example to illustrate his point but I gotta say it makes me wonder can Marvel get away with not really killing anybody in Endgame?1:10:16 Moonie HassanHey Sean, so I was having a discussion about what the FFH indicates to the end of Endgame, if what Feige said was true about FFH picking up minutes right after Endgame, then doesn't the tone from the FFH trailer seem a bit off? You would think it would be a bit more somber or down, unless the hero's that were dusted return without any memory of what happened in Infinity War, thoughts?1:15:11 Hector Giovanni NavarreteIn regards to the D+ series, would the actor reprising their roles to play these characters have had to have signed new deals/contracts in order to do so? I am assuming they did have to. If so, is that a good sign that these actors/actresses like playing these characters in the MCU? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Part Two of the Kree-Skrull War where we learn that the Skrulls are a bunch of shape-changing cows, Goliath is still an idiot, and everything we learned in the last three issues was garbage. Buckle up, True Believers!
It's the beginning of the Kree-Skrull War...well, more of a prelude actually. Captain Marvel is here, and Rick Jones, and Ronan the Accuser and...ugh...Wasp and Yellowjacket return. We also meet Annihilus, and Carol Danvers, and bunches of other new stuff too!

Expository Pyjamas Hello, and welcome to episode 133 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. Much like Breaking Bad, this episode of the Fantasticast is all about Crystal (I apologise for that terrible joke). Fantastic Four #117 starts the search for Johnny Storm's true love, with Archie Goodwin and John Buscema weaving a globe-trotting, Thing-scaring tale. We're also looking at Sub-Mariner #44, where an evil hippie-burning Johnny Storm helps Namor against Llyra and Tiger-Shark. Finally, we've a brief peek at a few panels of Avengers #94, a true turning point in the Kree-Skrull War. As well as all this goodness, we present The Adventures of the Cul-De-Sac Crew, the greatest unintended consequence of Secret Wars, and Bagpuss in cosplay. As for what happens when Rita Repulsa meets the Sub-Mariner... you won't believe what happens next! She Hid The Gun Where? Hello, and welcome to episode 127 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. This week, it's a bumper crop of comics for Steve and Andy to cast their Fantastic-eye over. The main feature is Fantastic Four #111, with a rampaging mad Ben Grimm tearing up a suprisingly small New York. We're also taking a look at the origins of the Kree-Skrull War with Avengers #89, and taking a brief peak at the erotic fantasies of Namor in Sub-Mariner #38. And, because I'm late heading out to the pub, that's where this episode's notes are going to end. It's one of the most famous Avengers stories. How does it live up to the hype? Skrulls are hot right now, what about in 1971? (1:25:31)
