After an exhausting year of politics and the re-election of Donald Trump, what is a faithful way for Christians to navigate the next four years? Should we continue to immerse ourselves in political news, or is it better to disconnect from the media? And should Christians join the political fights online, or unplug to better serve our local communities? The Holy Post crew responds to articles by a number of Christians leaders addressing these questions. Then, New Testament scholar, N.T. Wright, is back to discuss the book of Acts. Wright says an understanding of ancient temples is the key to the message of Acts. Also this week—the origin of F-words.   Holy Post Plus Bonus Interview with N. T. The hosts also recommend installing a birdhouse tailored to a favorite bird species and gradually expanding these efforts over time.   Listeners are encouraged to get their yards certified as wildlife habitats and to use tools like binoculars, bird feeder cameras, and bird identification apps to increase engagement. The hosts highlight the importance of patience and persistence, noting that these strategies can be applied in various settings, including homes, communities, HOAs, retirement homes, and nursing facilities.   Tune in to discover how to make nature a part of everyday life and celebrate special occasions with nature-related gifts to enhance the shared environment.   If you have ideas for topics that you'd like us to pursue, send us a message either on our Facebook page or our website. First, Jed speaks with Diana Renn about her "Backyard Rangers" eco-mystery series, which follows a group of young wildlife detectives investigating environmental crimes in their community. She offers tips for parents on helping urban kids connect with the outdoors, even in small ways. Later, Jed welcomes author Kevin M Hall, whose new book "Signs" explores paranormal and unexplained phenomena. He also interviews people who have had their own supernatural encounters, including a movie star who had a miraculous experience piloting a plane. Whether discussing children's literature or the paranormal, both guests share a passion for uncovering the extraordinary within the ordinary. Which would you choose, Courage or Caution for your tea?  Magnolia Street resides at the intersection of science, history, magic, and folklore. In today's episode, we're going to dive into the world of tea and Tasseomancy, the art of reading tea leaves. This was our Patreon Pick and the Stinas underestimated the size of the rabbit hole they were about to venture down! Tea has a long and fascinating history, dating back thousands of years to ancient China. We'll explore the science behind tea's health benefits and delve into this beloved beverage's cultural significance. But tea is not just a drink – it's also a powerful tool for divination. Tasseomancy, or the art of reading tea leaves, has been practiced for centuries in many cultures around the world. We also have some anecdotes from Rev. Judith Laxer, a modern-day mystic, keynote speaker, teacher of the magickal arts and mysteries, and author of "Along the Wheel of Time: Sacred Stories for Nature Lovers". Judith takes us step by step through the mystical process of Tasseomancy and lends us her own personal key of symbols she uses when interpreting tea leaves for herself and others. Finally, Justina and Kristina will be brewing up a cuppa, and try their hand at reading tea leaves for each other while chatting about some of their favorite Tea Leaf Reading movie scenes in pop culture! What do YOU see? A Giraffe? or a Black Spectral DOG!?!? Pour yourself a cup and try some Tasseomancy right along with us! Before arriving in Greenland on February of 2023, I had no idea that I would be interviewing Aka Hansen. I was fortunate to meet her while she was doing a photo shoot with a mutual friend in a location where I happen to also be creating content. When I heard about the activism work that she does in Greenland, I instantly knew that I wanted to interview her on the podcast. Her warm energy, beautiful traditional tattoos, and passion for her work helped me to gain insight into Greenlandic society.During our more than one-hour-long chat, she shares how detrimental Danish colonization has been on Greenlandic society. Along with others, she is working to reclaim the Inuit culture in Greenland that had been banned and/or heavily discouraged for 300 hundred years. I have a special series of episodes that I'll be sharing this week about Greenland! In fact, I am calling it Greenland week because, inclusive of this episode, I have two other episodes that I'll post. You might be wondering why I am sharing about Greenland when I normally talk about Iceland and the answer is simple. Both countries have amazing nature, and you can get directly to Greenland from Iceland in a short period of time. So, if you have ever wanted to visit Greenland or you are intrigued about the idea of going there, you are in for a treat this week. I visited Nuuk, Greenland, which is the capital of the country, in mid-February of this year and had an amazing time. I visited East Greenland, specifically Kulusuk, Tasiilaq, and the interior of the country back in 2018 for 9-days.That was an incredible experience that made me curious about Nuuk because East Greenland is like stepping back in time. I consider it a time capsule that gives you a glimpse into a much simpler way of living. Plus, the towns are quite small. For example, around 200 people live in Kulusuk. On the other hand, Nuuk is a modern city that kind of made me feel like I was back in Iceland. How this Episode about Greenland is Set Up The way I have set this episode up is that I will share some insight about Iceland vs Greenland. Not in a competitive way but more so about each destination and their unique aspects. You'll find that they have some things in common. After that, I will share my experience in Nuuk and the things I was so fortunate to do. This can give you an idea of things to enjoy if you decide to travel there. What is Greenland Week? The two other episodes about Greenland are interviews I did with two awesome women. One is Aká, a Greenlandic activist working to reclaim the cultural in Greenland after the country had been colonized by the Danish for hundreds of years. She is also a strong advocate of Greenland becoming an independent country. Currently, it is considered a district of Denmark. The other interview is with Josepha, she is a Greenlander that grew up in Nuuk, and has lived in Denmark and Iceland. She's multi-talented and has guided all over Greenland. She shares her insight about fun things to do there, mask dancing (a tradition) that Greenlandic people have been reincorporating back into their culture, and more. Before jumping into differences & similarities of Iceland and Greenland, I would like to thank the sponsors of this episode, which are Visit Greenland and Visit Nuuk.A special shout out to Josepha, who coordinated this whole trip for me. I highly recommend following her on Instagram, where she is child_of_the_arctic Follow Visit Greenland Instagram Facebook Youtube Follow Visit Nuuk Facebook Instagram Iceland vs Greenland Land Mass of Each Country Iceland – 103,000 square kilometers (39,768.5 square miles)Greenland – 2.16 million square kilometers (836,330 miles)Both are islands but Greenland is considered the largest island in the world. The first page is often the most rewritten page of any book because it has to work so hard to do so much—hook the reader. We interview master storytellers on the struggles and stories behind the first page of their books.About the guest author:Dr. Catherine Raven is a former national park ranger at Glacier, Mount Rainier, North Cascades, Voyageurs, and Yellowstone national parks. She earned a PhD in biology from Montana State University, holds degrees in zoology and botany from the University of Montana, and is a member of American Mensa and Sigma Xi (which I had to look up and discovered translates to Companions in Zealous Research.) Her natural history essays have appeared in American Scientist, Journal of American Mensa, and Montana Magazine. About the host:Holly Lynn Payne is an award-winning novelist and writing coach, and the former CEO and founder of Booxby, a startup built to help authors succeed. She is the author of four historical fiction novels, and her debut novel, The Virgin's Knot, was a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers book. Her books have been published in eleven countries and translated into nine languages. She recently finished her first YA crossover novel inspired by her nephew with Down syndrome and her love of Shel Silverstein's poetry. She lives in Marin County with her daughter and enjoys mountain biking, surfing and hiking with her dog. So I thought to ask your favorite master storytellers how they do their magic to hook YOU. After the first few episodes, it occurred to me that maybe someone listening might be curious how their first page sits with an audience, so I'm opening up Page One to any writer who wants to submit the first page of a book they're currently writing. If your page is chosen, you'll be invited onto the show to read it and get live feedback from one of Page One's master storytellers. Reagan is a mom and owner of multiple small businesses here in the Greater Cincinnati area. She grew up in the church. She and her family frequented the same homeschool circles as my family. Her people played on the same homeschool sports teams as my people. Her sister actually dated one of my favorite human's brother. We knew, and -- still know—a lot of the same people.I'm not sure how or when I was first introduced to Reagan's Instagram page. I don't think I realized at the time that she was someone from our homeschool past, I was just attracted to the passion and pizzazz she oozed.  I loved what she was saying about preserving the magic of childhood and getting kids out in to nature. She inspired me. Reagan was raising her kid the way I wished I would have raised my kids. She was teaching me things. One day last fall I put two and two together and realized our families used to do life in the same Cincinnati homeschool circles. And I wanted to know more. So -- I reached out and asked Reagan if she'd be interested in sharing her journey -- from evangelical homeschool kiddo to earth loving, tree hugging inspirational homeschool mama and entrepreneur. To worship the creature more than the Creator is to worship the creation, or as most people perceive it - "nature." To look for God in nature is not the right thing to do. Nature has been corrupted by man's sin and is not as God created it in the beginning. We must look for God and truth in the only reliable place it can be found and that is the written Word of God.

MZD - Ep 76 Quantum Creating

Mountain Zen Den Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 4, 2019 14:28

Welcome to the Mountain! Have you ever heard the term Quantum Creating? It is what you and I are doing when we basically “visualize” something into existence. What is Quantum Creating?  Now don’t worry. We’re not jumping off the deep end here into Woo Woo Land. What I’m about to share here dates back to DeCartes, Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein and Steven Hawking. It is so exciting to learn about the recent studies of what science has been discovering regarding the nature of reality.  The evolution of the understanding of Quantum Creating has taken giant leaps within the last decade or so.  You see, there is a Universe of infinite possibilities whereby we can create the world of our dreams.  The concept is extremely deep, and yet quite simple.  When we begin using our (subjective) mind to have an affect on our (objective) world, we are “Quantum Creating”. Where it really starts to get good is when you learn to focus on what you want, instead of what you don’t want.  In his book “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” Dr. Joe Dispenza points out, “The observer effect in quantum physics states that where you direct your attention is where you place your energy.”  And that means basically that you get what you re looking for.  Do you see why just a little earlier I asked you to stop and focus your energy and attention on the natural world around you?  When we begin to understand the science behind quantum creation and apply its truths to every area of our everyday lives, we almost immediately begin to see change for the good. That is, if we set our focus and intentions on “the good”.   Let’s take this into the world at hand. For instance, say you want to learn how to play a new instrument, lose a little weight, gain a little muscle tone, or even learn to lower your heart and respiratory rates a bit. There are measurable, definable actions you can take to create the end result you are looking for.   For most of us, the problem isn’t the one-time change. The problem is maintaining the change that gave us the positive results.   Why is this?   Dr. Dispenza posits that we can use our minds to create our reality. He says,   “Over time, (this could even be decades for many of us), our “mind-bodies” have created a chemical cocktail that is set and maintained by a complex system of neural pathways that are wiring and firing, without us having to even think about it.   This chemical cocktail is our “mind-body’s” normal state of being and makes us feel comfortable and familiar – at home – so to speak, even if it is a negative setting or unhealthy state of being.   Unhealthy states of being such as guilt, anger, fear and helplessness are all habits we have learned, owned, cultivated, allowed and maintained as a way of “being” and even identifying ourselves by. The ego loves these mindsets and will go to great lengths to hold onto them. Even if it means our long-range demise.     In Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself Dr. Joe Dispenza, discusses how Quantum Physics works. In the chapter called “The Quantum You”, he shares how, if you want to change yourself, you have to overcome what he calls the “Big Three”: Your Environment Your Body, and Time  He reassures us that “with willful attention, sincere appreciation of new knowledge, and repeated daily efforts, you can use your mind, as the observer, to collapse quantum particles and organize a vast number of subatomic waves of probability into a desired physical event called an experience in your life.” Now that is a big mouthful, but it basically means that in doing so you can influence the appearance of any possibility, or desired outcome you desire in life.  Remember, these studies are backed by scientific facts and research that don’t have to be completely understood in order for them to work or be true, any more than you have to understand the law of gravity to keep from floating away. However, if you find this sort of information fascinating, or need a little more proof before being led down the garden path, I highly recommend you give it a read. When discussing the environment Dr. Dispenza says that in order to make material a reality of our own choosing, or to “enter the field”, we have to enter a similar state. As a nature lover what better state can you imagine being in than one that is wild and natural and beautiful? This is one of the main premises of Mountain Zen Den ~ Personal Development for Nature Lovers. If you can attract what you want when you are in a state greater than your environment, why not place yourself in the greatest environment you can possibly think of? Nature. Now I realize that most of us can’t just up and teleport to Glacier National Park, the Grand Canyon, the Redwood Forest, or a tropical coconut island filled with palm trees swaying in the gentle breeze framed by incredible sunny blue skies. That is where these meditations set to nature sounds come in. They are meant to help inspire and facilitate a relaxed, natural Theta and Delta state that will help create the desired changes in your brain that are necessary for you to slow down, destress, and visualize your ideal self and life. Join us for today's meditation.
