Der Dickdarm ist maßgeblich an der Resorption von Wasser und Elektrolyten beteiligt. In diesem Abschnitt des Darms wird der Großteil des Wassers aus dem Darminhalt wieder in den Körper aufgenommen, wodurch der Stuhl eingedickt wird. Chemisch gesehen ist Salz etwas sehr einfaches, weil es nur aus zwei Elementen besteht: Natrium und Chlor. Dennoch ist es etwas Besonderes, wie mir scheint: zum einen kann es aus dem Boden gewonnen werden und zum anderen findet es sich in den grossen Gewässern der Erde, also in Meeren und Ozeanen. Es dient dem Menschen als Geschmacksverstärker bei der Nahrungszubereitung und als Konservierungsstoff. Es ist in den meisten Fällen unsichtbar, wo es sich in einem Umfeld befindet, also nicht in reiner Form vorliegt. Zuviel davon ist ungesund und gerade das Zuviel hat aber auch diese erwähnte bewahrende, konservierende Wirkung. Das scheint irgendwie widersprüchlich. Aber so ist es. Was am einen Ort durchaus positiv und mit Absicht eingesetzt wird, kann in einem anderen Kontext schaden. Das gilt auch für unser Verhalten, unsere Worte. Und dafür sind wir verantwortlich. Einmal mehr: der Kontext ist entscheidend. Die Beurteilung darüber fällt auch in unsere Verantwortung. Entre el último trimestre de 2018 y el mismo periodo de 2023, los asalariados de las autonomías han aumentado un 16,7%, hasta los 2,13 millones de trabajadores. La Administración local también ha seguido esta tendencia y ha elevado el número de funcionarios un 6,8% hasta superar los 700.000 empleados públicos. La Administración central, ha recortado en ese mismo periodo un 3,1% los empleos públicos, hasta los 527.000. En total, el empleo público se ha elevado un 11,9% entre el cuarto trimestre de 2018 y el mismo periodo de 2023, hasta los 3,6 millones de efectivos y las comunidades autónomas acaparan ya seis de cada diez empleos públicos en España. TerraPower, una empresa fundada por Bill Gates, solicita comenzar a construir un reactor refrigerado por sodio cerca de una planta de carbón en Wyoming en junio. Los reactores de la marca Natrium de la compañía podrían construirse por aproximadamente la mitad del coste de los reactores estándar refrigerados por agua. TerraPower, que ha recaudado 100.000 millones de dólares en financiación privada, firmó un acuerdo con Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation en diciembre para explorar el uso de reactores de Natrium para generar electricidad y producir hidrógeno en los Emiratos Árabes Unidos. La compañía ha conseguido el compromiso del gobierno de EEUU de proporcionar hasta 2.000 millones de dólares para completar el trabajo en la primera planta de TerraPower en Kemmerer, Wyoming.

Der Volks-Ferrari Eigentlich ging es beim Fiat Dino anfangs lediglich darum, einen neuen Ferrari V6-Motor für die Formel 2 gemäß den Regeln für die Homologation mindestens 500 Mal herzustellen. Für eine solch hohe Stückzahl war Ferrari damals nicht gerüstet, also half Fiat aus und entwarf ein Cabrio und ein Coupé für den Ferrari-V6. Der Dino, benannt nach Enzo Ferraris früh verstorbenem Sohn Alfredo („Dino“) Ferrari wurde 1966, zunächst als von Pininfarina entworfener Spider, vorgestellt. 1967 kam das von Bertone entworfene Coupé hinzu. Beide sind so hübsch, dass es schwer fällt, sich zu entscheiden. Ron tendiert zum Spider, Frederic eher zum Coupé. Einig sind sich beide, die technisch verbesserten Baujahre ab 1969 vorzuziehen. Nach Produktionsende 1972 lebte der V6 mit dem ungewöhnlichen Winkel von 65 Grad im Ferrari Dino 246 GT und im Rallye-Boliden Lancia Stratos weiter. #5 SHORTCAST: Wie ist das eigentlich mit den Mikronährstoffen, Robin?Mikronährstoffe sind lebensnotwendige Nährstoffe, die der Körper in vergleichsweise kleinen Mengen benötigt, um normale Wachstums-, Entwicklungs- und Stoffwechselprozesse aufrechtzuerhalten. Im Gegensatz zu Makronährstoffen wie Kohlenhydraten, Proteinen und Fetten, die in größeren Mengen benötigt werden, sind Mikronährstoffe Vitamine und Mineralstoffe, die in kleineren Mengen benötigt werden, aber dennoch von entscheidender Bedeutung für die Gesundheit sind. Hier sind einige der wichtigsten Mikronährstoffe:Vitamine: Vitamine sind organische Verbindungen, die eine Vielzahl von Funktionen im Körper unterstützen. Es gibt fettlösliche Vitamine (wie Vitamin A, D, E und K) und wasserlösliche Vitamine (wie Vitamin C und die B-Vitamine). Jedes Vitamin erfüllt spezifische Aufgaben, wie die Unterstützung des Immunsystems (Vitamin C), die Förderung gesunder Haut (Vitamin A) oder die Regulierung des Calciumstoffwechsels (Vitamin D).Mineralstoffe: Mineralstoffe sind anorganische Nährstoffe, die eine breite Palette von Aufgaben im Körper erfüllen. Zu den wichtigsten Mineralstoffen gehören Kalzium, Magnesium, Eisen, Zink, Kalium und Natrium. Cal is the co-founder and CTO of an energy and governance company, Signal Power and Light, with coal mining operations in Northern Alabama and a special governmental zone, ZEDE, in Honduras, ZEDE Orquídea. Cal's work in governance and energy as a means of addressing global poverty stemmed from his early economic work connecting statistical physics to economics, which has been completed with The Quantum Foundations of Utility and Value. Cal is an accidental engineer, choosing nuclear engineering on a whim because it was hard and seemed interesting. He served 10-years in the nuclear Navy driving submarines, finishing his last tour as the Engineer Officer on the USS Florida (SSGN-728).   Before leaving the Navy, Cal became interested in climate change after watching An Inconvenient Truth. Confused as to why nuclear was not featured prominently, he modeled a nuclear buildout using Small Modular Reactors to repower existing coal stations and then using the nuclear heat to drive Coal to Liquid synthetic fuels. He presented this to the American Nuclear Society in 2010, The Impact of Small Modular Reactors in a Carbon Constrained Economy, and attempted to patent the technology, but later found that there were already many similar patents from the 1970's. He even tried to pitch the idea to the coal industry in 2012, but it fell on deaf ears.   Thinking that he was on to something and seeing policy as a major hurdle in preventing a nuclear buildout, he went to Georgia Tech to learn more about public policy and to see if he could find a solution, which he managed to do. His doctoral work created the conceptual design of a sodium fast reactor with thermal energy storage replacing the intermediate loop. He showed that by marrying the two technologies, we separate the kinetics of the energy demand from the reactor kinetics (reactor safety) and can confine the regulator's warrant to just the nuclear island. 7-months after defending his dissertation, TerraPower took the concept and in October 2018 began detailed engineering of what was to become Natrium. While at Georgia Tech, and in response to Fukushima, Cal suggested to the world that we use concrete pump trucks to refill the spent fuel pools instead of helicopters.   Cal's current work is revitalizing and adapting the Karrick Process to the swelling coals of the Eastern United States, his company has finished the conceptual design of the pilot facility and will start construction in the near future and hopes that one day he will be able to marry this technology with a nuclear reactor. He has also extended his theoretical economic work and shown the relationship of energy and value with Bitcoin (soon to be published) and for the entire US economy (unpublished). The nuclear renaissance is underway, but can technology deliver the efficiencies needed? Nuclear power is back in the spotlight. Energy security concerns coupled with economic uncertainty have influenced a shift in global attitudes to the energy source. Policy and investment in nuclear are accelerating as the existing fleet of reactors ages. By 2050, at least 10% of the current nuclear fleet will retire, prompting the need to look to new and innovative technologies to replace them. As ever, cost-efficiencies will drive adoption. The levelized cost of electricity for conventional nuclear is over three times the cost of wind and solar per MWh. New, advanced reactor technologies are needed to lower costs. Small Modular Reactors are one of these. As global innovation in nuclear evolves, these reactors could deliver energy at less than $80 a MWh. Investment in SMRs is focused on the US Canada and Europe. On the Interchange today, David Banmiller is joined by a panel of industry guests to identify the paths to safe, reliable nuclear power. Dr Kathryn Huff is Assistant Secretary at the Office of Nuclear Energy, at the US Department of Energy. She explains the decisions that have influenced the shift in government policy towards nuclear in recent months and outlines the plans for investment in new projects. The Natrium reactor, from TerraPower, is benefiting from a slice of the $2 billion in funding from the DOE. Jeff Navin is Director of External Affairs at TerraPower, and he also joins us on the show. Show Notes: The future of solid-state batteries could be 3D-printed | The Verge (01:11) Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere: in your phone, car, camera, and more. One major flaw: safety.  Lithium-ion batteries have a tendency to catch fire, especially when damaged or at high temperatures.  Solid-state batteries replace a flammable liquid electrolyte in lithium-ion batteries with a more stable solid one.  Potential solutions for many problems of liquid Li-ion batteries, such as flammability, limited voltage, unstable solid-electrolyte interphase formation, poor cycling performance and strength. Additionally providing more power, faster charging, and a longer lifespan. California-based startup Sakuú, and it's taking on an even bigger task: 3D-printing these next-gen batteries.  Claims that 3D printing allows it to fit more battery layers in the same amount of space, boosting the capacity of its batteries compared to those made by traditional manufacturing.  Dave Pederson, vice president of marketing and business development at battery technology company Sakuu, explains that has validated its 3D printing processes and materials, and is currently formatting them for a production environment.   “We've proven all of the steps in the lab, and now we're in the process of connecting them in an automated fashion,”  In theory, 3D printed batteries could take on more customized shapes, which could change how batteries are integrated into product design. Both organic and traditional metallic conductors share a common characteristic: They are made up of straight, closely packed rows of atoms or molecules.  Scientists thought a material had to have these straight, orderly rows in order to conduct electricity efficiently. With this new way to create the material, the scientists saw that the molecular structure of the material was disordered.  Anderson said it should not be a metal and there is not a theory to explain this After tests, simulations, and theoretical work, they think that the material forms layers, like sheets in a lasagna.  Even if the sheets rotate sideways, no longer forming a neat lasagna stack, electrons can still move horizontally or vertically—as long as the pieces touch. A move further cemented the relationship between TerraPower, a nuclear developer, and PacifiCorp The pair agreed last year to build a 345-megawatt Natrium nuclear reactor at the site of a retiring coal plant in western Wyoming. Signals a new energy transition strategy in the West The first reactor at the Naughton Power Plant in Kemmerer, Wyo., where the two companies hope to demonstrate that a coal-to-nuclear conversion is viable. Yet to have its design approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission  Is projected to cost $4 billion.  The plan to convert the Kemmerer plant into a sodium-cooled Natrium reactor has been embraced by Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon. A recent Department of Energy study found that siting advanced reactors at old coal sites can decrease costs by taking advantage of existing transmission and interconnection infrastructure.  Additionally, nuclear reactors have the added benefit of more jobs than other renewable energy plants. TerraPower estimates its facility will require a workforce of 250 people. Ryan McGraw, vice president of project development at Rocky Mountain Power, a PacifiCorp subsidiary talks on the challenges of this study: “While there are a number of hurdles to overcome prior to commercialization of any new technology, this joint study with TerraPower will help us to understand those challenges and frame a path forward with the best interest of our customers in mind.”
