- The biggest news this month was the opening of the Donkey Kong Country expansion of Super Nintendo World and Universal Studios Japan. This long awaited expansion opened on December 10th, and has had rave reviews from visitors. While POVs of the Mine Cart Madness coaster, look fun, but not super thrilling, the feedback on the ride has been very positive. Similar to the Mario Kart ride that anchors Super Nintendo World. This is not a thrill attraction, it is a family attraction. The best thing from what I can see from this expansion, is just adding space to Super Nintendo World. - Here in Australia we have had two massive openings in the last month, with both Movie World and Dreamworld adding their new lands, the Wizard of Oz Precicnt and Rivertown. - Starting with Movie World's new precinct dedicated to the Wizard of Oz, it opened on the 20th of December, without a soft opening period, with it's two new coasters: - Kansas Twister: A Vekoma Family Boomerang Racer, twin tracks with a top speed of 58km/h and a 95 cm (37-inch) height requirement - Flight of the Wicked Witch: A Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster, with a top speed of nearly 67km/h and 105 cm (41-inch) height requirement I've seen really mixed reviews of the lands so far. People have been damning for the lack of shade in the outside portion of the land, which is a danger for any Summer opening of a Theme Park land in Australia. They have routinely praised the indoor queue elements of the two rides. The rides themselves haven't been big hits, but I'm going to hold my judgement on them for now. - Over at Dreamworld, we have seen on the 23rd the opening of Rivertown. This new land takes the place of ABC Kids World, that kind of half merged into Kenny and Belinda's Dreamland when Dreamworks IP licencing deal was finished. Amusing that are of the park was originally known as Rivertown, so it's kind of return. Not really though. I'll get to that in a second. The new land brings one new, and one completely refurbished attraction. The new attraction Jungle Rush Vekoma switchback coaster with a low 95 cm (37-inch) height requirement, and high top speed of 80 Kmph. This is the first of it's kind of coaster in the world. The second attraction Murrissippi Motors, is a significant revamping of the Vintage Cars, that were previously on the other side of the park. - Elsewhere in theme Parks, Disney has announced that beloved Australian cartoon dog Bluey is coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World, as well as being added as a meet and greet to the Australian sailings of the Disney Cruise Line from next month. This comes on the back of Bluey's World, opening here in Brisbane at the start of November. Exactly what is going to happen at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, remains to be seen. I would expect to see meet and greets happening fairly quickly. - Universal Orlando has filed permits for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit to be removed, and replaced with a proposed new attraction. They have stated the existing ride will close in September 2025. The submitted plans, showed that the entire ride footprint plus some backstage area's near the New York area of the park, have been marked for the removal and replacement permit. The plans are obviously silent on what will replace the ride, but it is possible that this new area, might mean that the ride replacing it could be entered to from the New York area, rather than the current entrance near Minions Land at the front of the park. The wild speculation at this point, is that it could be a long awaited Ghostbusters attraction, running out of the New York section. - Disneyland have opened a new Haunted Mansion themed gift show, Madame Leota's Somewhere Beyond, which went in the space of the former Splash Mountain Fastpass distribution area. - Six Flags has submitted plans this week to "ALTER" rather than "Demolish" their "KINGDA KA/ ZUMANJARO" rides, which have been announced as being removed.
605. Part 2. Derby Gisclair returns to discuss the history of baseball in New Orleans. Derby is an expert on the topic, having written the following books: Early Baseball in New Orleans: A History of 19th Century Play. The 1910 New Orleans Pelicans: A Moment in Minor League History: Shoeless Joe Jackson and the New Orleans Pelicans Championship. The Dixie Series: 1920 - 1958. In July of 1859, seventy-five young New Orleanians came together to form the seven teams that comprised the Louisiana Base Ball Club. They played their games in the fields of the de la Chaise estate on the outskirts of New Orleans near present-day Louisiana Avenue. As America's population grew through immigration, so did the popularity of what the largest newspaper in New Orleans, the Daily Picayune, called in November of 1860 "the National Game." Baseball quickly replaced cricket as the city's most popular participant sport. In 1887, local businessmen and promoters secured a minor league franchise for the city of New Orleans in the newly formed Southern League, beginning the city's 73-year love affair with the New Orleans Pelicans. From Shoeless Joe Jackson, to Hall of Famers Dazzy Vance, Joe Sewell, Bob Lemon, and Earl Weaver, to today's stars such as Jeff Cirillo and Lance Berkman, the road to the majors brought many notable players through New Orleans. From these early beginnings to the present-day New Orleans Zephyrs of the AAA Pacific Coast League, local fans have continued the tradition of baseball in New Orleans.A lifelong resident of New Orleans, S. Derby Gisclair is a member of the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) and its 19th Century, Minor Leagues, Deadball Era, Oral History, and Pictorial History Committees. Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia. Today is Saturday, May 11, 2024 Discover the beauty of Almost Heaven on horseback. Giddy up! … Consistency in coating is key for Mister Bee's four new tasty flavors … and now you can get Appalachian art from a vending machine -- that's right, your own mini masterpiece …on today's daily304. #1 – From WTRF-TV Wheeling – There are many ways to explore the beauty of West Virginia, but there is one you may have overlooked…on horseback. Horseback riding is available at many West Virginia state parks and resorts, according to the state's tourism website. Whether you are an expert rider or novice, the state's equine outfitters can plan a memorable adventure for you or your family. Even children ages 2 and up are welcome at some locations. Close behind are recirculation, reliability, accuracy, and sanitation, say manufacturers and producers. Consistency of coating is a key consideration for Mister Bee, which has recently come up with four new potato chip flavors: the 304 (named for West Virginia's area code), which combines salt, vinegar, and barbecue; pepperoni roll, with pepperoni, cheese, and bread flavors; the original chip, a rerun of the chip the company's maiden product, fried with lard; and sausage biscuits and gravy, made in partnership with local restaurant chain Tudor's Biscuit World. Read more: https://digitaledition.snackandbakery.com/april-2024/processing/ #3 – From POCAHONTAS TIMES – We all know those vending machines at the entrance to the grocery stores. For a couple of quarters you can buy a sticker, a spider ring or bouncy ball. It was so much fun to put your money into the machine and have your prize pop out, ready to be enjoyed. Taking that same concept – and machine – in mind, printmaker Caroline Hertko decided to make art accessible and fun by filling a vending machine with business card sized Appalachian themes prints. Hertko received a grant from the West Virginia Department of Culture, Arts and History to purchase three vending machines. One is located in the Rivertown building in Marlinton and another is located at the Wild Bean in Lewisburg. Hertko is keeping the third to have with her at fairs and festivals. The print designs include mountain laurel, ramps, a banjo, black bear, trout, Mothman, radio telescope and more. There's nothing like a good encore! Today we're bringing back the hits - episodes 11 and 12, in particular - to take you back on a memorable trip to Two Brooks Rice Farm with three of EATYALL's favorite chefs and farmer Mike Wagner. Sitting with Andy are chefs Milton Joachim of Charred Steak and Oyster Bar in Ocean Springs, MS, Ryan Cassell of Fenian's Pub in Jackson, MS, and John Cartwright of Rivertown Coffee in Florence, AL. Each of them chat about their visits to EATYALL Chef Camp and Two Brooks Farm, while Andy's time with Mike Wagner reveals rice growing methods that improve local ecology and farming practices. Tune in for two of our most popular episodes rolled into one - packed with farms, fixings, and flavor! Farming And Rice And Everything Nice The Rice Growing Process. Hear Milton, Ryan, and John describe the rice processing steps they saw at Two Brooks, from the field to the combine to a rice color sorting machine that's much cooler than the loose change sorter at Sharper Image. Best of all, the tech and technique are all driven by hands that care for the products that you eat. Home Grown Quality Assurance. Chef Ryan Cassell said that, as a chef, you're always putting your heart and soul on the plate. Learn why it's reassuring for him - and for you - that Two Brooks and other farms put that same effort into producing rice and other fresh, healthy ingredients. Live Healthily. Eat Dirt. Mike Wagner tells a story about a French wine merchant who tasted his vineyard's soil to help determine the quality of his grapes - and Mike does the same for his rice products. Why? Listen in for the answer and more about how nutrient-rich ingredients always make better foods. Our guest chefs' visit to Two Brooks Farm - all while braving muddy roads and thirsty mosquitoes to tell the tale during EATYALL Chef Camp - is a testament to Mike Wagner's work to not just sustain, but build a healthy environment by growing food the right way. Settle in for this best-of episode - and enjoy more greatest hits in the coming weeks from your friends at EATYALL. Today's Guests Chef Milton Joachim - www.charredos.com The Executive Chef at Charred: A Steak & Oyster Bar, Milton Joachim grew up cooking at his father's seafood shop in New Orleans, before serving at some of the city's premier restaurants. Relocating to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and opening Charred in 2016, Milton infuses a southern, Creole flavor into the menu of Charred - voted Best Steakhouse at WLOX's 2021 Gulf Coast Weekend online competition. Chef Ryan Cassell - www.fenianspub.com Since 2015, Ryan Cassell has served as General Manager and Executive Chef of Fenian's Pub in Jackson, Mississippi, where he revamped the menu to feature meals made with fresh local ingredients. An alum of the University of Southern Mississippi, Ryan has built relationships with neighboring food producers to provide local flavor to Irish favorites like shepherd's pie or fish and chips. Chef John Cartwright - www.rivertowncoffee.co A native of Corinth, Mississippi, John Cartwright opened Rivertown Coffee in Florence, Alabama, in 2004 - and quickly realized the value of serving food along with coffee. Teaching himself how to cook on-the-fly with the help of a few family recipes, Ryan now spends much more time in the kitchen than at the espresso machine, as he and Rivertown have helped create a close-knit restaurant community in Florence. Farmer Mike Wagner - www.twobrooksfarm.com Representing the 10th generation of his family's farming legacy, Mike Wagner established Two Brooks Farm in Sumner, Mississippi, in 1992. While producing soy beans and rice on the farm, Mike developed health-conscious food products using eco-friendly farming management - processed, milled, and marketed with the help of his son and daughter. "Then Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. So Moses said to Joshua, "Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand." So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill." Exodus 17:8-13 ESVFor though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ," 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 ESV"Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses' hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him. and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun." Exodus 17:8-13"And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword." Exodus 17:8-13

A SAFE CHURCH. STRIVES TO KEEP THE MEMBERS HAPPY. AVOIDS CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES. REMAINS CAUTIOUS.Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit...' With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.' Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 2:38-41RiverTown Church is a safe place with a dangerous mission.RiverTown's Mission: To transform lives into the likeness of Jesus Christ.RiverTown's Life Transformation strategy-path-journey: God Matters… when my schedule and lifestyle reflect that God is my top priority. People Matter… when I admit that I need regular fellowship to grow spiritually. You Matter… when I volunteer to show and share God's message of love. What Makes A Church Dangerous?1) AN UNCIVILIZED APPROACH.In those days John the Baptist came, preaching… ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near…' John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. People went out to him…Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. Matthew 3:1-6Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and… said to them, 'My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it a den of robbers.' Matthew 21:12-13When was the last time you had an uncivilized experience with God?2) A DIVINE BOLDNESS.Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus. Acts 4:29-30After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. Acts 4:31-35When was the last time you took a bold stand for Christ?3) A RISK-TAKING FAITHAnd without faith it is impossible to please God… Hebrews 11:6For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. Matthew 16:25 When was the last time you took a faith-risk?RiverTown's End-Vision of Community Transformation:Revealing God's love and transforming power to the whole metro region.Inviting our friends, neighbors and families to experience real faith for real life.Valuing the contribution of every person.Engaging the needs of others while expecting nothing in return.Reproducing disciples through an intentional life transformation process.Together, building a base of ministry with the needs of the community in mind.Overcoming obstacles to reveal the powerful potential God has placed in our lives. Winning the battle for our nation's cities by sending out trained church planting missionaries. Never missing an opportunity to become more like Jesus Christ. So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul - men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 15:25-27

NOT AFRAID 1. We live by faith, not by fear. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” John 14:1 NIV “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 NIV “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 NLT For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT For we live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV 2. We are sacrificial, not selfish. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. Philippians 2:3- 4 NLT All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Acts 2:44-45 NIV Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts ... Acts 2:46 NIV Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47 NIV 3. We shine the light, we do not hide it. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 NIV But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all- surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:7-9 NIV TALK IT OVER Are you dealing with any fears or anxieties right now? What are they? Would you describe your faith as more of a weekly faith or a daily faith? What are some ways you could live out your faith more during the week? How can you put others first and bring hope to those who need it this week?

On today’s show, we have some fun discussing the return of the WLLZ call letters to Detroit’s FM airwaves, and by listener request we talk about the elephant in the room, the so-called District Detroit, in the wake of the big story that ran over the weekend in Crain’s. First up is a new Patronicity campaign to help restore Hamtramck Stadium, which hosted Detroit’s various Negro Leagues baseball teams during the 1930s. Hometown rock star Jack White ponied up $10,000 to jump-start the campaign, which seeks to raise $50,000 to restore the playing field and install signage. Elsewhere: Former Detroit Red Wing and NHL Hall-of-Famer Ted Lindsay has died. In addition to winning four Stanley Cups with Detroit, he played a big role in helping players to form a labor union. Detroit’s Wheels is back after IHeartMedia converted 106.7 over to the revered call letters WLLZ, giving it a classic rock format that frankly sounds different than the old classic-rock format of old. The Detroit Economic Development Corp. is looking for a developer for three buildings in the old Rivertown District. And we unleash many months worth of thoughts and observations about the District Detroit, the Ilitch family’s planned mixed-use, walkable and vibrant urban neighborhood surrounding the Little Caesars Arena. Do yourselves a favor and read the Crain’s package, which does a great job shedding light on a project that has so far delivered little other than a new arena and ample, overpriced parking. As always, thanks for listening to Daily Detroit. If you wanna do us a favor, tell a friend about us, leave us a review on Apple Podcasts, or support us via Patreon to help keep the shows coming.
