Oh, how the sets of ten keep on rolling by. With no surprise travel happening this time, we recorded this one on a normal timeframe and hasn't (knock on wood) missed any stories about XBoxes suddenly costing 20% more or some nonsense. Rather, we're looking back at the wow factor that shifting generations can bring. Or, at least, used to bring. It doesn't happen a whole lot these days. But just think about how closely Unreal followed Quake 2, or how big the jump from MGS to MGS2 was (and, again, how swift it was besides). With Hewso in charge, we also talk some games, too. Mecha, generic fantasy names, and very French-Otaku RPGs, specifically. Proof, perhaps, that as cool as next level whizz-bang is, it isn't really everything. Although it would be nice if Expedition 33 would support HDR... or at least load up properly without it. Bienvenue dans Hall of Game.Retrouvez tous les Hall of Game sur Youtube ou sur JV ! Hébergé par Audion. Our journey through the literary world of MGS continues with Raymond Benson's MGS2 novelization! Unlike MGS1, this book is much more of a straight forward retelling of the game, but that doesn't stop us from going long discussing all our favorite parts of MGS2, and planning out our vision of a potential MGS2 remake. Konami, if you're reading this, we're available, hire us! Episode 52: Cuck-sultant

Boy am I glad that I disregarded all of the "Metal Gear Solid 2 is the worst one, just skip it" chatter out there. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, by Hideo Kojima and Konami, is a step up in almost every way from the first Metal Gear Solid game, and does a ton of interesting things in the process. Its biggest issue is that it takes a long time setting up, and then the payoff hits you with too much all at once. But once I've had time to sit and process everything it's doing, I gain more and more appreciation for it. Joining me for this discussion is Kade Call of Gaming Memories! We've made it to the end of Metal Gear Solid 2, and you know what that means: time for another fight between two men supposedly free of politics and ideology, but this time they both have high energy swords...and one of them also has cyber tentacles. It also turns out there actually is lot of politics and ideology to talk through as we close the book on MGS2. Episode 13: ASMR: Snake Affirms Your Gender Identity
Things are getting WILD as we make our way towards the end of MGS2. A MSG1 style torture sequence (but this time with more nudity), 4th wall breaking Colonel (who's not really the Colonel), AI!, a Snake and Raiden tag-team (non-sexual), more Ocelot shenanigans, more Liquid shenanigans!, and a fight with multiple metal gears? Things are popping off and we're still not even done with the game yet. Episode 12: Heere at the Wall

Sometimes we seek out games. Other times they seek out us. It's another brilliant VG247 podcast. Hello again I won't lie. As I attempt to write some general blurb about this podcast for the fifth time and not make it the dullest thing imaginable, I'm struggling. But hey, ho, the VG247 The Best Games Ever Podcast returns, with episode 5. This week I worried we'd end up talking about how Steve from over the road lent a copy of Advance Wars on the GBA, but instead we soon became a blip on the radar of the local constabulary. That's right, it's time for the Best game you got for an odd reason. Not the best title, I admit, but stick with it. “What is VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast?” you ask, presumably because you read the words I'd written and not because you really wanted to ask. It's really quite simple, so listen up and please don't ask again: Each week three of us must present our choice for the best game ever that fits the title of the show (this week it must be a game that we reckon is great but came into our possession through odd means). Then our host/judge, Jim Trinca, will use his complete lack of objectivity to declare a winner and annoy at least one of us – most likely me. Each episode of the Best Games Ever Podcast skirts around the 30-minute mark. We've got a small number of things to talk about, and we don't go on random tangents about the latest video game news (unless it's somehow relevant to the games and stories being discussed). We feel 30 minutes is the perfect length. If we were doing this live and asked you to pay for a ticket, of course we'd make it longer, but we'd likely take the easy option and deviously put multiple Best Games into one show. Smart. Hopefully you can find room in your podcast-listening schedule for 30 minutes. If not, just cut one of the dull ones. Do you really need 12 shows about decluttering, or that one about talking to the artists that paint all the knock-off art onto funfair rides? Fair enough, that one sounds great. But you can get rid of one of the others. If this is your first time listening, do go back to listen to the previous episodes. They're not topical in the least, so go wild. We've got some details on the show's content below (if you want to get a refresher before heading to the comments to make a wonderful, considered post), so if you want to avoid spoilers, don't scroll past this warning. W A R N I N G Best game you got for an odd reason – Crimestoppers Edition This is the topic of Episode five of VG247's Best Games Ever Podcast. Here's a rundown of who picked what. Tom – Sam and Max Hit the Road (1993) The Point and Clink adventure game was all the rage back in the early ‘90s. LucasArts was at the very top of its craft, knocking out classic after classic, and this wacky adventure featuring the “Freelance Police” duo was another slam dunk. As not only one of the best games of its genre, but also with a strong case for being one of the best games ever made, surely this piece of video game history has got the competition sewn up? Alex – Perfect Dark (2000) It's hard to believe Perfect Dark released in 2000. By that time the Dreamcast was on its way to failure (sad eyes), and the PS2 was just around the corner. Nintendo was still happy to release Rare's classic sci-fi FPS on the N64, though, even with its own follow-up console, the GameCube due the following year. As the successor to the much-loved GoldenEye, Perfect Dark had a lot to live up to, and for the most part developer Rare absolutely smashed it. James – Metal Gear Solid 2 (2001) Who can forget that first look at Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty? It was a big moment for the PS2 and pretty much cemented Kojima as the top-tier creator he is known as today. The game itself held quite a few surprises, of course, some that didn't go down well with fans, but generally MGS2 is held in very high esteem as one of the greatest games of all time. Let us know what game you'd pick and if you agree that Jim has completely gone off the rails. Episode 256 of the Transatlantic Cable kicks off with discussions around NFTs, crypto currency and Bill Gates. From there the team talk about news coming out of the United Kingdom around cookies – it seems that the U.K government is keen to make some changes to current cookie legislation, but will this be a win for businesses or consumers? Following that there's discussion around ‘BidenCash' – an underground site making waves by trying to give away stolen credit card information. In addition to this, Dave recently sat down with Boris Larin, from Kaspersky's GReAT, to talk to him about his recent work modding Metal Gear Solid 2, allowing a true 3rd person perspective camera – something that wasn't possible in the original game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGGNfOq8u3o If you liked what you heard, please consider subscribing! Laugh and... go fast? A playable Fatman mod for MGS2, Hideo Kojima's new book, and the recent 'UnMetal Unleashed' event are the topics du jour as Plywood, administrator for the Metal Gear Speedrunners community, fills the guest spot this episode. Recorded on October 22, 2021.
Raiden something happened to me last Thursday when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go - I looked up and saw a glowing orange podcast in the sky, to the east! It was moving very irregularly... suddenly there was intense light all around me - and when I came to, I was home. What do you think happened to me? Welcome back to the podcast! Today, we're going to be talking about Metal Gear Solid 2, the sequel to Metal Gear Solid and arguably the game that cemented Kojima as a designer with an eye for details who was willing to do some of the strangest things in AAA games. And also made it clear that he really wanted to make movies. Regardless of how you feel about MGS2's plot, or many of Kojima's plots generally, the game tells its story through some of the most elaborate cutscenes and lengthiest dialogue ever seen to this point in the industry, and that was debatably among the things most discussed when the game came out. Beyond that though, this game is mechanically a step up from its predecessor as well, and does a lot more with its stealth action framework than people were used to, making use of the new first person aiming mechanics as well as a robust inventory of usable items to force its players to think outside the box (ha ha) to tackle its challenges. The game gained notoriety from the surprises it kept hidden in the lead-up to its release, and even afterward received praise for being inventive and focusing on things games usually didn't at that time. All that said, it's been twenty years since it first released, so we have to ask if it held up? Is it still a justifiable favorite MGS2 game even when stacked against its later sequels and prequels? Find out, as we talk about the bizarre twists and questionable plot decisions made in the game, the variety of ways you can deal with the games obstacles, and when the bird crap comes back. Thank you for joining us once again. The spoilers for this game are more or less a known quantity by anyone who plays games these days, but I still don't want to get too much into them here because they were the type of thing that really intrigued me when I played the game the first time. If you've played MGS2, what was your favorite weird thing that happened? Do you think it held up, or is it kind of a nightmare to play these days, or did you always find it kind of pretentious? Let us know in the comments or over on Discord! Next time, we're getting into Halloween, our favorite time of year, and we'll be talking about The Medium, so I hope you'll join us for that.
This week we dive into the weird world of video game twists, and spoiler alert: there WILL be spoilers. First Ash leads us in a discussion on the controversy of spoilers in the gaming world. Then, Nathan takes us through a speed run on the history of the MGS2 twist. And finally, Fahey quizzes us on the most memorable video game twists via bullet points.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This week Trees makes the most of the weekend while Fred...doesn't. After a brief discussion on Gamescom announcements things quickly move to the games they've played. Trees has his staples: Car Mechanic Simulator, Maneater, and AC Valhalla. He also got to experience the 4K upres version of Crimson Skies, gave an indie title Islanders shot, and wrapped up with Slime Rancher (Plortable Edition). Fred tries to figure out why he struggles with the PS2 era in particular after reflecting on his recent MGS2 playthrough. Then it's all new stuff with 12 Minutes, Psychonauts 2, and Demons Souls (PS5).
