With a near constant flow of new executive orders and policy decisions, it’s challenging for investors to keep up with what US President Donald Trump’s administration is doing. In this episode of ESG Currents, Bloomberg Intelligence senior ESG analysts Gail Glazerman, Rob Du Boff and Andrew Stevenson are joined by colleagues Nathan Dean and Andrew Silverman to dissect the most significant changes that could impact E, S and G, including the fate of the Inflation Reduction Act and the consequences of intense DEI scrutiny.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The US Treasury has once again started to use “extraordinary measures” to honor its debt service obligations and avoid breaching the debt ceiling. With these measures expected to run out sometime this summer, any efforts to increase or suspend the debt ceiling will run concurrently with Republican priorities to renew tax cuts and cut government spending. President Trump has voiced support in eliminating the debt ceiling altogether, creating the possibility of a bipartisan agreement that would remove this frequent source of anxiety for financial markets. In this episode, we talk with Nathan Dean, Senior Policy Analyst with Bloomberg Intelligence, about the limits the debt ceiling imposes on fiscal policy, its impact on financial markets, and how policymakers are approaching it in the year ahead.
As expected, the Federal Reserve cut 25 bps in this election week, not a surprise, but Jerome Powell wasn't as hawkish as might have been expected. Bloomberg Intelligence Chief US Interest-Rate Strategist Ira Jersey is joined by Senior Government Analyst Nathan Dean to discuss the implications of the recent election cycle for the US economy and Treasury markets. They discuss the current state of executive policy uncertainty, and potential outcomes of various campaign promises, though Dean doesn't think the debt ceiling is going to be an issue for the next four years. They also touch on potential changes in tax policies, fiscal budgets, and financial regulations. The Macro Matters podcast is part of BI's FICC Focus series.
The US presidential race is between Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Donald Trump and the couch, according to Bloomberg Intelligence senior policy analyst Nathan Dean. In this episode of the Choppin' It Up podcast, Dean sits down with BI's senior restaurant and foodservice analyst Michael Halen to discuss why strong voter turnout may help Harris. He also comments on how turnout could decide which party controls the US House of Representatives, why Republicans have an inside track at a Senate majority, tariffs, M&A, price gouging, consumer-facing company regulation, tax reform and why he doesn't think tips will be made nondeductible.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
With US presidential election campaigns in full swing, we thought it prudent to revisit what this year could mean for the municipal bond market in terms of heightened risks -- and even some scenarios where it would benefit. Though past election years have returned more wins than losses for munis, macroeconomic issues accompanying the election will remain a hurdle. To discuss possible threats and the latest federal income-tax developments, hosts Eric Kazatsky and Karen Altamirano are joined by Andrew Silverman and Nathan Dean from Bloomberg Intelligence.
French and UK politics generated most headlines in recent weeks -- and France's political conundrum has yet to be solved -- but US politics are likely to take center stage and dictate the dollar's fortunes in the run-up to the Nov. 5 elections. Audrey Childe-Freeman, Bloomberg Intelligence's chief G-10 FX strategist, talks to BI's senior government analyst Nathan Dean about the near-term political agenda and what considerations may dominate when it comes to finalizing the Democrats' candidate. Nathan and Audrey also investigate how a second Trump administration may affect the dollar cyclically-- bullish via trade plus fiscal and monetary policy -- and structurally -- any tilt toward isolationism would be negative for the dollar in the longer term.

Not all of us will be church planters, but we all need to shift our mindset to thinking like church planters. In the post-Christian west, fewer and fewer people have a context for Christian terms and meaning. My guest, Nathan Dean planted and served a church in downtown Atlanta for 12 years. He and his wife were very successful in explaining the Christian life in ways that were not just clear, but appealing. They're now planting Blue Mountain Church in Blairsville, GA. He's also written "The Song: The Story of Our Hope and Rescue," a picture book, to explain the biblical story to beginning readers. Bonus: I want to connect with you! Nathan Dean is a great dude. He's got a huge heart, and it is clear to everyone, including me, that he has kind intentions just pouring out of him. It was a pleasure to sit down with Nate and have a far-ranging discussion over various topics. There's some about money, and family and Twitter and quite a bit more. By now you know that I like to take these discussions off the beaten trail from time to time, and this episode is no different. What you'll find is a man who's good intentions are backed up with a willingness to serve and an orientation of action all the way down. There's plenty here to pick up on, and so I hope you'll pay attention. If not, then here's to learning by osmosis. Want more from mi amigo Nate?
