Jarvis Davis and Tenitra Batiste talked about which one was under the most pressure to perform. We hope you enjoyed National Doughnut Day on June 3rd because after you watch this movie/listen to our recap, you'll probably never want to eat another doughnut again. While we did find this movie to be a fun and creative concept, we were definitely caught off guard by the gratuitous farting and graphic deaths that resulted from said farting. However, we were NOT surprised by the mediocre acting, incredibly thin plot, and completely bizarre character choices that make this movie both a disaster and a delight. Check this one out!    My friend for more than 30 years, Todd Leabo, broke the golden rule of Kansas City sports media Thursday when he asked Andy Reid a real question about Tyreek Hill.  Andy called Leabo a name and ridiculed him in front of everyone and owes an apology.  Since the day they drafted him, the Chiefs have not handled questions about Tyreek Hill very well and now Hill is suggesting the Chiefs are the bad guys.  You have to hear this.    The Royals rebuild is in year 5 and it's a sinking ship.  Salvy can try to take the blame but this effort by the front office is ridiculous.    While DC is trying to write new laws and challenge the Second Amendment, it's obvious we have a huge problem right now post covid. Crazy, copy cat shooters are popping up everywhere... we've lost our way.     What would you do to save your dog?  We've seen guys go after gators... now we have a man that went after a cougar to save his beloved pup.    And it's National Doughnut Day... we'll give your the brief story of the sailor from Maine that invented the tasty treat 175 years ago today.

Welcome to June 3rd, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate life “on repeat” and our favorite comfort food.   Everyone has found themselves in a conversation with someone who talks too much. According to Greek mythology, it even happened to the goddess Hera. A nymph named Echo started talking to Hera and just. wouldn't. stop. The goddess became so annoyed that she put a curse on Echo—from that day on, the nymph could only repeat the last word that someone else said. Over the years, it got worse and worse until Echo simply faded away into just a sound. And if you've ever been near a canyon, you've heard her. It's National Repeat Day, and you can repeat fun things like snacking over and over. Or you can repeat what your friends say. But be careful who you do that to. Some people really don't like it. Doughnuts are so delicious that most people like to celebrate them every day. But the very first Doughnut Day was created by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served this comfort food to soldiers during World War I. They were known as the Salvation Army Lassies, and they bravely went to the front lines to deliver this treat and other morale boosters. Doughnuts were so prized that soldiers even used their metal helmets to heat the oil used to fry them up. This is why American Infantrymen were often called doughboys. On National Doughnut Day, celebrate the sweet treat that still serves up that comfortable feeling of home.  I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day. Welcome to June 4th, 2021 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate small carbs with a big impact and the world's rarest cheese.  You think you like doughnuts? Probably not as much as Jamie McDonald, a guy who would make Homer Simpson jealous. In 2012, Jamie ate 5 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts in 9 minutes, 17.28 seconds. But if eating fast isn't your thing, how about a piece of the biggest doughnut in history? That record belongs to a bakery in Utica, New York that created a jelly doughnut with a 16 foot diameter that weighed nearly 2 tons. On National Doughnut Day we celebrate the Salvation Army's first fundraiser honoring the Salvation Army Lassies.  These gals served doughnuts to soldiers on the front lines during World War I.  And while they weren't fancy or record breaking, we know they had an impact on the guys who missed home!  Today we celebrate another favorite comfort food - ooey, gooey cheese! This all time favorite can be found in every corner of the world, though it's made from a variety of ingredients.  One of the rarest of these is the cheese that's made from moose milk. At the Elk House farm in Sweden, three moose produce milk at the rate of 5 liters a day and only between May and September.  But the price tag makes it all worthwhile at $500 per pound for the finished cheese.  Kinda makes good old cheddar seem like a bargain.  If you're up for adventure visit the Swedish farm on National Cheese Day.  Or grab a slab of something a little closer to home. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson.  Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.

On today’s show, we’re going to talk about donuts. What does National Doughnut Day have to do with being married forever while you parent together? National donut day is on June 5th or the first Friday of June every year. Interestingly enough it comes out of the Salvation Army sending donuts throughout the camp during WWI, and the troops would enjoy a taste of home that brought encouragement and emotional support and joy. Now you’re probably wondering, what does this have to do with our joy of eating donuts in our everyday life? We’re going to look at the connections of our everyday life as spouses and parents and how they might feel like their own battlefield.

Welcome to a bonus Friday edition of your Daily Detroit. Today, we discuss the sad news that Axle Brewing will shutter its Livernois Taproom June 30th, barely two years after it first opened. Dave Phillips, one-half of Podcast Detroit and the IT in the D podcast, and himself a former partner in a failed craft brewery, joins us to discuss how difficult it is to succeed in an uber-competitive sector, where even established brands have to fight for shelf space, and drinkers like me fret about overabundance. Axle President Dan Riley told the Freep the brand doesn’t have the scale or cost structure to see a “clear path” to turning a profit. Elsewhere: Detroit may be dealing with a serial killer after three women believed to be prostitutes were found dead in abandoned homes on the city’s east side. Tipsters are asked to call (313) 596-2260. [Detroit News] There’s an update on Dan Gilbert, nearly two weeks after the billionaire real estate developer suffered a stroke. Detroit’s Public Lighting Authority is starting to replace those malfunctioned LED streetlights while a lawsuit against the company that made them proceeds. Hatch Detroit has doubled its prize to $100,000 for aspiring business startups looking to open brick-and-mortar storefronts in the city. Fresh Wagon, a bus service connecting Detroit neighborhoods to Eastern Market, has shut down. Grosse Pointe Park is getting a new pizza joint called The Bricks. And happy National Doughnut Day! Forty years ago, after huge success with Star Wars, Mark Hamill showed up in a down-to-earth comedy about a boy and his car in Corvette Summer.  Join shazbazzar and JediShua as they get revved up in high speed at 77 minutes per episode on this Memorial Day TechnoRetro Dads.   In the NEWS Thundercats return to the small screen, but they don’t appear to be like the classic ‘80s cartoon. A She-Ra reboot looks like it will be more faithful to the original.  Kitsis and Horowitz line up to run the Amazing Stories reboot overseen by Steven Spielberg.  Galaxy’s Edge gets a release date…sort of.  And in sadder news, legendary movie poster artist Bill Gold and Lois Lane Margot Kidder both leave this life.   We Love Our Cereal… …and other sweet, sugary, and colorful breakfast foods.  This coming Friday is National Doughnut Day…again!  It seems like it comes twice a year, doesn’t it?  PLUS: Cereal Feedback from Jonathan, Adam, and Shane.    Corvette Summer Mark Hamill and Annie Potts make an unlikely couple in 1978’s Corvette Summer, a RomCom featuring a boy’s automotive dreams, a girl’s effort to make it in the world, and the love they find along the way.  Although JediShua saw this one in theaters in 1978, shazbazzar didn’t see it until a week ago.  But in the end, the ‘Dads both love this movie!  Check it out when you can.  It’s a fun flick with lots of surprises and flashbacks to ‘70s culture for GenXers.    TechnoRetro Arcade Drop a quarter in the slot and take off with a shot in some great driving games we played in arcades and at home.  From the confusing axonometric driving in Super Off Road to the “behind the car” perspective of Pole Position, driving games have always been popular in the arcade.  We remember Rally X, Spy Hunter, futuristic F-Zero, and (of course) Super Mario Kart as we put one foot on the brake and one on the gas at the TechnoRetro Arcade.   Feedback Mike MacDonald agrees that Twiki and Dr. Theopolis are similar to Bollux and Blue Max from the Brian Daley Han Solo novels, but Mac admits he hasn’t seen Willow, yet.  Shane in GR recalls the blue Hot Wheels carrying cases he used to have as a kid and wonders if they’re still in his parents’ house.  Jimmy in GA submits some sketches of Tony the Tiger and Buzz from Honey Nut Cheerios.  John Schepler helps shazbazzar out with the identity of Chris Claremont.   Thanks for tuning in to TechnoRetro Dads, EarBuds!  Don’t forget to rate and review TechnoRetro Dads on iTunes, share us and with us on social media, and join discussions about toys, cereal, games, movies and/or shows from the ‘70s and ‘80s by giving the ‘Dads your feedback via voice mail at (209) 878-7323 or sending us a message or mp3 via electronic-M to podcast@TechnoRetroDads.com.   Share and enjoy.

Yes, we know you haven't been paying that much attention. National Doughnut Day was last week. But you? You're eating one today, aren't you? In sum: There's a million things you haven't done – but just you wait! Just you wait!  It's time for Infomagical BOOTCAMP. Earlier this year, 30,000 of you participated in our Infomagical project, five days of challenges designed to fight information overload – that buzzy, anxious feeling of, there's way too much out there to consume, I am not getting anything done all the way through, and I still have no idea what people are talking about. This week, we've made an extra special, super-charged challenge that only lasts one day. A very, very, very productive day. Perhaps you participated in the first round, you've been very focused ever since and now you want to get something 100 percent DONE before you leave for a well-deserved summer vacation. Perhaps you participated, and you've fallen off the wagon. Perhaps you did not participate because you were overwhelmed by the idea of a week-long commitment. Perhaps you did not participate because you did not know about it. This is your chance. ATTENTION!  Listen to this week's Note to Self wherever you listen to your podcasts for your challenge and instructions.
