Rose puts aside her Nicolas Cage ick once more for this 2004 National Treasure, starring Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger and Justin Bartha. This deep dive really shows how much people grow and change. 2004 us: Ben MUST protect the Declaration of Independence from Ian, because 'Merica. 2025 us: I mean, Ian was just gonna borrow it, its not that big of a deal. Also, Ben seasoned it up with a hair dryer and lemon juice....so... does he really care THAT much?
An absolute treasure trove of an episode this week featuring Ethan & Jace as special guests.
Part 3 continues the “priced out” conversation with Jeremy and Mike Zier, joined midway by Karvin Cheung (creator of Exquisite, The Cup, National Treasures, and more) and later Chris McGill of Card Ladder. What starts as a collector's reality check on wax prices evolves into a roundtable on distribution, licensing, breakers, and the overall state of the hobby. From $12.9M grails to $800 wax boxes, this discussion spans both ends of the spectrum, and asks whether regular collectors can still find their lane. Highlights Collector angst: returns shrinking while wax prices soar Breaking then vs. breaking now, does it still offer value? Carvin on licensing, distribution, and why the ecosystem fuels high prices Chris McGill connects rising wax costs to broader inflation and everyday life Is “don't open it” the only way to push wax prices down? The tension between million-dollar grails and collectors just wanting affordable packs Discipline, budgets, and staying grounded in today's market If you want straight talk on wax costs, the breaking economy, and the state of the hobby from both collectors and industry insiders, this episode is for you. Send Kevin a Text MessageIn this episode of Don't Kill the Messenger, host Kevin Goetz sits down with Dick Cook, the former Chairman of Walt Disney Studios known as "the filmmaker's Chairman." From his humble start as a Disneyland train operator to running one of Hollywood's most successful studios, Dick shares how his Bakersfield roots and team-oriented leadership helped deliver some of Disney's most loved and profitable films, including Finding Nemo, The Lion King, National Treasure, and Pirates of the Caribbean. From Bakersfield to Disneyland (01:42) Dick shares how a 17-year-old with railroad experience landed a job operating Disney's steam train and monorail, setting the stage for an extraordinary career journey.Small-Town Values in Hollywood (06:10) Growing up in Oildale, California, Dick explains how losing his father at 12 and his mother's dedication to baseball helped shape his character. The Disruption Era (12:38) Dick discusses joining Disney during the home video and pay television revolution, when many thought it would kill the theatrical business.Learning from Legends (17:25) Dick shares insights from working with Disney visionaries like Jeffrey Katzenberg, Michael Eisner, and Card Walker.Convincing Eisner on Pirates (20:43) The inside story of how Dick had to sell Michael Eisner on Pirates of the Caribbean, an expensive pirate movie with an arthouse actor that became a massive franchise. The Team Philosophy (32:33) Dick emphasizes how success came from building loyal teams and treating the movie business as "a game" - serious work that he genuinely loved doing with people he cared about.Green-Lighting Lessons (35:54) Dick walks through his decision-making process for approving films, from budget considerations to the ancillary market.Remembering The Alamo (37:37) A candid discussion about one of his biggest missteps, how killing the protagonist at the end of the second act doomed The Alamo, and why pre-green-light audience testing might have caught the flaw.Friday Night Phone Calls (40:44) Dick recalls the excitement of Splash's surprising opening weekend success, when hand-calculated box office numbers seemed too good to believe.Dick demonstrates how humility, small-town decency, and collaborative leadership can drive Hollywood success while maintaining his integrity. If you enjoyed this episode, please leave us a review and share it with others. If you're reading this, you've been conned. That's because we watched Matchstick Men (2003) and were conned into talking about it on this podcast. Okay, okay... it was the next movie on the list. We dissect this Ridley Scott crime/thriller in which Jolly St. Nic plays a con artist named Roy Waller whose teenage daughter conveniently pops back into his life right when he and his buddy are about to pull off the biggest con since Deadfall! (No face frying in this one.) Of course, we've also got Nic Cage news, The Nic List, a discussion of 90s heist movies, and our final ratings. Check it out! Our next Nic Cage film review will be the always meme-able National Treasure (2004). In this episode, the Munsons take flight with one of Hollywood's most iconic stars—Harrison Ford, and hope he doesn't take the plane down with us. With two animal species named after him and a box office career that towers over our box office snapshot spreadsheet, we dig into every angle of Ford's legendary run. How much does Case really hate him, and how will that play into his final score? We weigh the burden of carrying roles like Han Solo, Indiana Jones, Rick Deckard, and Jack Ryan, and debate whether being born during World War II influenced his knack for fighting Nazis on screen. We look at his real-life, death-defying stunts as a pilot, the impact of Han Solo as the first in a line of action-hero archetypes, and whether Indiana Jones paved the way for the Gates family in National Treasure. The crew dissects his comparison to Jake Gyllenhaal in Presumed Innocent, relives The Fugitive (and our collective hatred of PlutoTV), and questions why Ford took a voice role in The Secret Life of Pets—and if there's more animated work in his future. Plus, we talk about his long-overdue Razzie nom in 2020. How does he rank on the Munson Meter? Listen to find out.
In the second part of this mini-series, Kelly and Ben talk about a trio of Nicholas Cage movies.
Hello to you listening in Seattle, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more to visit history) for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Recently I read a comment on Substack about the changes being wrought by 47 and his criminal cabal to erase - as much as obscenely possible - evidence of slavery in America thereby making history disappear. Yes, many have tried to make history disappear but the stories, the oral histories, the voices, the art, books and photographs remain. Not all - but enough to stand witness. One such book, The Ghosts of Segregation, was authored by our very own Whidbey Island writer and photographer, Richard Frishman who saw what 45's administration was doing and had to do something to defy it. Unexpectedly, while researching the Ghosts of Segregation, I found my way to the Panama Hotel in Seattle which some of you may remember as the hotel featured in the novel, The Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford. The Panama Hotel remains the repository of personal belongings stored there by some of the 8,000 people of Japanese ancestry who were forced from Seattle and into internment camps (known as War Relocation Centers) set up in Midwestern states as a result of Executive Order 9066. They had one week's warning.Eventually, over 120,000 men, women and children of Japanese ancestry were forced from their homes, businesses and farms on the Pacific Coast in a systematic, government sponsored exile of innocent people. Most of them were United States citizens. The incarceration turned US citizens into refugees in their own country. But the story is still alive staving off erasure. A grant from the National Park Service helped researchers document, catalogue and map the contents of suitcases, trunks, and boxes, over 8500 items left in the hotel basement. Because of the historical value of the Panama Hotel, it was designated as a National Treasure in 2015. Today the Panama Hotel serves as a living time capsule, a shrine to a community, and the site of the Japanese American Museum of Seattle. Story Prompt: How might we change the future with understanding and compassion so as to defy fear and hatred of The Other? Write that story and tell it out loud! Forrest Fenn hid a treasure chest full of gold and diamonds somewhere out in the Rocky Mountains because he wanted kids to go outside and smell the sunshine, inspiring hosts of naturalists to hide their own treasures and, more importantly, enjoy the treasures that are U.S. public lands. But these treasured lands and parks have suffered abuse, neglect and the constant threat of being sold off by zealous policymakers looking to open up millions of acres of protected space for development or resource mining, an act some experts akin to political suicide. Join us for the ninth episode of Sidebar this season as we poke around vast swaths of beaches, mountains, canyons and river beds in pursuit of what treasures these U.S. public lands hold. Send us a textJoin Cheryl Lee - That Radio Chick on STILL ROCKIN' IT for news, reviews, music and interviews with some of our favourite Australian musiciansFew voices have captured the essence of Australia quite like John Williamson. With his distinctive sound and storytelling prowess, he's spent 55 years painting musical portraits of our sunburnt country. Now, as he approaches his 80th birthday, the man behind "True Blue" and "Old Man Emu" is making one final journey across the nation."Everything I'm doing from now on is the last time I'm going to be there," Williamson confides with characteristic frankness. Though careful not to use the word "retirement" (joking that he "can't do a Farnham and keep coming back"), his current "My Travellin' Days Are Done" tour marks the end of an extraordinary touring chapter that began in 1969 when a young farmer won a talent quest with a quirky song about emus. Our conversation weaves through the rich tapestry of his life – from growing up as one of five sons in Victoria's Mallee district where his father played banjo in the local band, to his seven years working the land before music became his full-time passion. "The farm was plan A. The music was plan B," he reveals with a chuckle. This agricultural background infuses authenticity into every song, creating an unbreakable bond with audiences who've purchased over five million of his albums.Despite amassing 28 Golden Guitar trophies and three ARIA awards, Williamson remains refreshingly humble, finding more satisfaction in "the sale of CDs and streaming... because it means the general public are approving of my songs" than industry accolades. Even more meaningful? "People crying in the front row of the show."Though his touring days may soon conclude, Williamson's creative spirit remains vibrant. His newest single "Born with a Ukulele in My Hand" was inspired by annual trips to Fiji, and he has collaborated with his daughter Ami on beautiful duets. He hints at continuing his annual "Shed Show" at his Queensland property and possibly recording new music, ensuring this national treasure's voice won't fall silent.Don't miss your final opportunity to experience John Williamson live as he completes his farewell tour through February 2026, including appearances at the Deni Ute Muster and Tamworth Country Music Festival. After 55 remarkable years, these performances promise to be profoundly special celebrations of Australian music's true blue legend. What has John Williamson been up to lately? We also learn that the P in Rosco P Coltraine stands for Pervis. This episode starts with an upside down smashed GL….and just gets better. Rosco p Coltrane gets the CEO Treatment by a well built mail order bride, and it's the oldest trick in the book: young woman with a husband and crony convince a Sheriff to get him out of the way so Boss Hogg can be conveniently robbed while everyone is attending a wedding. In the midst we see the General get totalled, untotalled, retotalled, untotaled, and then retotaled again (only to then be replaced by a horse). The sloppiness of automotive continuity in this episode is awful, and that's what makes it so right - plus the stunts are off the chart. Oh, and the saying The Lord Helps Those That Help Themselves…..that's not actually in the Bible. Might be in the US Constitution though. Or possibly National Treasure. Just when I think i'm away from Disney, Anita done pulled me back in! Yes, this is yet another Disney flick that I've never seen but I was slightly hopeful because I've always heard that this is "Baby's first Indiana Jones." From what I can tell, this is looking more like the PBS version but i'm a fan of PBS, so I can give it a shot. Anita was so hype about it and it got a sequel, book series and TV series so it must be good! Right? In this episode of The Adam Carolla Show, Adam kicks things off by reflecting on who's really keeping cities like Los Angeles running—and how traffic patterns seem to be changing in surprising ways. He shares a bizarre memory of acting in Frank McKlusky, C.I., a film that tried (and failed) to ride the coattails of Ace Ventura. Plus, Adam recaps his recent tour of the Pacific Palisades and gives an update on the progress (or lack thereof) in rebuilding. In the news, Jason “Mayhem” Miller joins to break down some wild headlines: A disturbing attempted kidnapping caught on camera in Coney Island, Mayor Karen Bass's furious response to an ICE raid in a gang-heavy LA neighborhood, and new drama surrounding Gary Coleman's death as his ex-wife flunks a televised lie detector test.Later, actor Justin Bartha calls in to discuss his new movie Nuked, and chats with Adam about his career highlights—including National Treasure and The Hangover. Adam asks the question on everyone's mind: Will there ever be a National Treasure 3? Justin also opens up about the reality of making good comedy films, his recent experience at a mental health retreat, and how he stays grounded amidst the chaos of Hollywood life.Get it on.FOR MORE WITH JUSTIN BARTHA:MOVIE: NUKED - hits theaters and digital / on-demand July 11INSTAGRAM: @barthabarthabarthaFOR MORE WITH JASON “MAYHEM” MILLER: INSTAGRAM & TWITTER: @mayhemmillerWEBSITE: www.mayhemnow.com Thank you for supporting our sponsors:BetOnline120Life.com - use code ADAMtry.drinkbrez.com/CAROLLA/ and use code CAROLLA for a $5 credit and free shipping on your first orderHomes.comForThePeople.com/ADAMoreillyauto.com/ADAMPluto.tvLIVE SHOWS: July 10 - Irvine, CA (Live Podcast)July 11-12 - Covina, CA (4 shows)July 16 - Rosemont, ILJuly 17 - Plymouth, WISee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The Church History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints just dropped a revelatory bomb on the Mormon history community and we're gunna talk about it. John Taylor (prophet 1880-1887) wrote a revelation saying that the new and everlasting covenant is actually “everlasting” and cannot be revoked or abrogated. However, the prophet after Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, wrote the First Manifesto bringing the church into compliance with the law of the land. However, plural marriages continued to be performed. The Reed Smoot hearings turned the eyes of the nation to the kingdom of god in Deseret and every clandestine plural marriage put a lie to the Manifesto. Church leaders are excommunicated and it leads to the formation of the Fundamentalist Latter-day Saints. The church has suppressed this revelation in its vaults for nearly a century while openly denying that it even existed. After that we chat about more secrets hiding in plain sight with the movie National Treasure. We wrap with happy news about diabetes therapy and a gaggle of listener mail. We kick things off with our go-to July 4th movie traditions—from The Sandlot and National Treasure to Rocky IV and Hamilton. Then, it's on to The Running Man remake starring Glen Powell and directed by Edgar Wright. We break down the wild premise, how it compares to the original, and whether this version will be more faithful to Stephen King's source material. The focus for JJ, Alec and Mattson for this podcast episode revolves around the cinematic exploration of the film "National Treasure," a narrative that intertwines adventure with historical intrigue. We engage in a profound analysis of the film's themes, particularly its depiction of patriotic fervor and the allure of hidden treasures rooted in American history. Throughout the discourse, we reflect upon the film's characters, notably the charismatic portrayal by Nicolas Cage, and the dynamic interplay between humor and tension that enriches the viewing experience. As we delve deeper, we also scrutinize the plausibility of the film's plot devices, acknowledging the necessity of suspension of disbelief within such an adventurous context. Ultimately, our conversation encapsulates a shared appreciation for the film's ability to entertain while simultaneously provoking thoughtful engagement with history and conspiracy theories.Support us:https://www.patreon.com/whatsourverdictEmail us: hosts@whatsourverdict.comFollow us:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/whatsourverdictTwitter: @whatsourverdictInstagram: @whatsourverdictYouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UC-K_E-ofs3b85BnoU4R6liAVisit us:www.whatsourverdict.com
TALK TO ME, TEXT ITEver wonder what stories slip through the cracks of mainstream media coverage? From unexpected revelations in high-profile cases to bizarre medical procedures gone wrong, today's episode dives into the news you won't hear elsewhere. The Department of Justice and FBI have officially closed their investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, concluding he did not maintain a client list and confirming his death as suicide. After years of speculation and conspiracy theories, these findings directly contradict popular narratives about the case. Even more surprisingly, the Trump administration plans to release video evidence supporting these conclusions. Whether this will satisfy public curiosity or simply fuel further questions remains to be seen.We also explore the dangerous world of cosmetic surgery, specifically the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure, which carries not only risks of death and infection but also the unexpected and unpleasant side effect of odor from tissue death. Two disturbing missing persons cases receive updates: Travis Decker, the fugitive father accused of murdering his three young daughters, may have been spotted in Idaho's vast Sawtooth National Forest, while authorities in Turks and Caicos have launched a murder investigation after discovering a decomposed body believed to be missing Manhattan resident Brian Terrence, who mysteriously disappeared during a romantic getaway. What national treasure would you most like to visit? When you picture the Declaration of Independence, what comes to mind? Most people envision a single, iconic document–parchment, signatures, maybe even a scene from National Treasure. But what if I told you, the Declaration of Independence isn't just one document, but many documents? And that each version of the Declaration tells a different story–a story not just about American independence, but about the people who printed, read, preserved, and even re-wrote the Declaration? Emily Sneff is one of the leading experts on the Declaration of Independence. She has spent more than a decade researching the Declaration's origins, and its different copies. She's the former research manager of the Declaration Resources Project at Harvard, a consulting curator for Revolution 250 exhibits at the Museum of the American Revolution and the American Philosophical Society, and I'm proud to say, she's is one of our former interns here at Ben Franklin's World.
