Rachel began to do the work on my mind, body and soul. Writing her book was her way of sharing my message to women that you are not alone! Now using her book Rachel wants to help people who have had or a still experiencing negative body image. By using what she now refers to as my three pillars of fitness; Nourishment for both the mind and body, Movement & Rest. “My mission is to create a safe space for all women to feel whole in their own body” – Rachel Lavin What We Discuss In This Episode: Rachel shares her personal story of what she went through for the first half of her life with not only just the way she felt about herself, but the way she felt about her body, When she turned 40, she decided she wanted to be happy - just living her life to the fullest. Rachel took some time, for a lot of self-reflection and dealing with her past. Rachel shares how ditching that “diet mentality” is something we all need to do. Many of us have forgotten how to trust our body. What does that mean? It's really reintroducing that relationship to your body, knowing your hunger signals are real. Think of it like this, you don't have to tell your body when it's tired. It goes to sleep. You don't have to tell your body when to go to the bathroom. If you go to the bathroom, you have signals that tell you what your body needs. And your hunger is no different. Our stomach growls for a reason. It's trying to let you know it needs some nutritional foods. Rachel shares her belief that often we're forcing ourselves to eat goods we don't enjoy. She encourages women to broaden their horizons when it comes to food. She shares how to take note of how we feel when we eat certain foods. Did it disrupt your digestion? Did it make you feel bloated? Did it make me have a stomachache or headaches or other things you experienced? Once you figure it out, you just don't have to think about it anymore. Lynne and Rachell tackle the huge issue that we have about how we love ourselves. Maybe you've got a bulging belly because that often comes in midlife or maybe you've got a lot of birth scars. Often, we look at our body and don't like what stares back at us in the mirror. So how do we learn to love ourselves and love our bodies just as they are? Rachel shares how important it is to start understanding your body is a gift, but you've thought this way for so long that you need to change the narrative. Rachel shares the steps she took to begin to see her body this way and to love her body again. Rachel then shares some easy ways to add movement into our life so that we increase our health and wellbeing. Rachel encourages us to just take a simple, simple step. Find yourself any color post that you want, something bright and cheery, your favorite color, and just write something about yourself, something that you know that you don't believe. And say it out loud to yourself for a week and see how you feel. According to Rachel, you'll see and feel a difference. If I asked you “Do you love your body?” would your answer be dependent on how well your next diet works or whether you reach your goal weight or if you had more time at the gym? Could you say you love your body right now? I know I've struggled with saying that as so many of us have, especially women. My guest, author of “The Doughnut Diaries” and certified health coach Rachel Lavin, is on a mission to teach body love and help people heal from negative body image. Rachel has experienced not loving her body at every size from 12 to 0 so she knows that self acceptance is not in weight loss but in mindset. Rachel reached a point where, as she put it, “I got sick and tired of being sick and tired”. She reached a point of just being tired of feeling bad about herself. She worked to shift her mindset from feeling ugly and betrayed by her body to being able to wake up and tell herself she's beautiful and mean it. She established three pillars of fitness - nourishment for body and mind, movement, and rest - to encourage women to find the same body love. Rachel and I talk about her book, researching body positivity, how our messaging about our bodies affects our children, and why physicians need to abandon reliance on the BMI and focus on actual health. The messages in this episode are so personal and valuable, I hope you find them as helpful as I do. About Rachel Lavin:Rachel Lavin is a Published author of “The Doughnut Diaries”, Professional Speaker, Body Love Coach, Certified Health Coach, Certified Personal Trainer. She grew up in Northern California and has lived in Hawaii, Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon and New York City. She currently lives in Greenville, South Carolina with her partner. In 2000 Rachel began her career as an ACE certified group fitness instructor teaching a plethora of classes such as Aqua Aerobics, Bootcamp, Jazzercise, Dance Aerobics, Stretch and Chair classes. In 2007 she was certified as an ACE Personal Trainer working at big box gyms in NYC and becoming an independent trainer in 2012. Rachel wanted to take her passion for helping people to the next level and became an ACE certified Health Coach in 2018.In 2020 Rachel wrote her first book "The Doughnut Diaries" about her own struggles with her weight and restrictive diets which lasted for over thirty years. As Rachel turned forty the expression “I got sick and tired of being sick and tired” hit home and she made a decision to take her power back and heal from decades of negative thinking and self sabotage. Rachel began to do the work on her mind, body and soul. Writing her book was her way of sharing her message to women that they are not alone! Now using her book Rachel wants to help people who have had or are still experiencing negative body image. By using what she now refers to as her three pillars of fitness; Nourishment for both the mind and body, Movement & Rest.“My mission is to create a safe space for all women to feel whole in their own body.” – Rachel LavinContact Rachel LavinBody Love Educator, Speaker, AuthorWebsite | Facebook | Instagram | LinkedIn Resources discussed in this episode:“The Doughnut Diaries” by Rachel LavinObesity Medicine 2023 Conference—Learn more about Dr Michelle Tubman and Wayza Health:Website: www.wayzahealth.comDownload my free Food Freedom Roadmap hereFollow me on Facebook and Instagram
Many of you will be raising your hands, nodding your head, or clapping to this topic and the things we talk about in today's Fit Girl Magic podcast. You are going to feel heard in this! This is all about SELF-LOVE or overcoming self-hatred. How many of us have looked in the mirror and pointed to a body part and said, “Oh, I wish this was a perfect way.”? Well, guess what... I have someone who has overcome that, and I know many of you are struggling to overcome this. We feel like we take a few steps forward, but something always drags us back into that self-hatred, self-loathing part of us. So, I want you to really listen to this podcast. Because there is a way out and through this, my recent guest, Rachel Lavin will help you start the ball rolling! For decades the fitness industry has focused on narrative largely based around body composition. Simply put, the message has been; you exercise to get your “beach bod.” No matter how you look at it, this narrative has proliferated through much of the industry's marketing. Large organizations and individual professionals alike have been very body composition-centric in their approach to messaging fitness and exercise, and in doing so alienated a large portion of consumers that might otherwise engage with the industry. Our guest in episode 93, Rachel Lavin, is on a crusade to change that. Rachel is a Published author of The Doughnut Diaries, Professional Speaker, Body Love Coach, Certified Health Coach, Certified Personal Trainer. Her mission is to create a safe space for all women to feel whole in their own body.In this conversation will discuss what organizations and individual fitness professionals can do to cultivate a body neutral approach to fitness and exercise. Not only will we discuss the actionable steps necessary to make this a reality, but we will also talk through the important business and public health implications of doing so. This is a crucial topic, coming at a very important time for industry and our nation, and Rachel has a lot to teach us!Show Notes Page: https://www.wellnessparadoxpod.com/podcast/episode/93 Our Guest: Rachel LavinRachel is a Published author of The Doughnut Diaries, Professional Speaker and Body Love Educator, Certified Personal Trainer and a Certified Health Coach. Episode Summary:People often think that the number on the scale or your BMI determine your ideal weight and whether or not you're healthy. The truth is, these are not accurate measurements of overall health.Or we go by what society tells us we should look like. Always striving for that “ideal,” which is impossible to achieve, and always leaves us feeling like we failed. We compare ourselves to celebrities, people we know, and people we see on Instagram. On today's episode, I'll show you how to find that “sweet spot” in determining what is healthy for you, why “skinny” does not equal happy or healthy, and how to enjoy life NOW instead of waiting till you're a certain size. “It's not about the number on the scale. Your ideal weight is not one-size-fits-all. It's personal to you. It's about being healthy, happy, and comfortable in your own body.”- Sarah HaasHighlights00:56 What Your Ideal Weight Really Should Be VS. She realized that stress, lack of self-care, and not listening to her body's messages was literally making her sick.Throughout her cancer treatments, she focused on her own self-care. Episode Summary:My topic today is midlife weight gain. Why it happens. What we can do about it. Did you know the average woman gains 1 - 2 pounds per year between ages 40 - 59? That creeps up to a total of about 20-40 pounds in midlife. Ugh!!!So many life changes are happening around this time: pregnancy weight gain, higher stress levels, sedentary jobs, low energy, and more. PLUS all kinds of hormonal changes are taking place in your body. Starting in your 30s, estrogen levels begin to drop and you start losing muscle mass, which causes extra weight to settle around the midsection. Although this all sounds inevitable, there are many ways that you can reverse this trend. Stay tuned and I'll give you all the goods!“I don't want you to lose hope because there are a lot of things you can do to reverse this and stop that slow weight gain over the years.”- Sarah HaasHighlights01:45 Weight Gain in Women in their 40s and 50s02:59 Why It Happens Around Midlife03:53 Hormonal Changes05:42 Stress Eating11:49 Importance of Staying HydratedEpisodes mentioned:Episode #18 – Dear Sugar We Have to Break Up, Part IEpisode #19 – Dear Sugar We Have to Break Up, Part IIHost Bio:Sarah Haas is a Women's Weight Release Expert and Body Love Coach. How much do you love your body? In today’s world driven by filters, Photoshop, Facetune, and obsession over our popularity on social media, it’s easy to slip into a self-critical, insecure, and anxious mindset. Now more than ever before, as a culture we are becoming obsessed with ways to change our appearance to feel better about ourselves. This week, host Sarah Anne Stewart sits down with Holly Fuchtman, a past client of hers and now a life coach who helps women create sustainable change, so they too can love their bodies for life. On this episode, Holly shares her own powerful story—from being a competitive bikini model to becoming a body love coach—and how she broke through the endless search for external validation. So often we think body love is healing our relationship with our bodies, but what you will find from listening to the wisdom shared in this podcast, is that it is most often not about our bodies but our experiences that define our self-worth.

I’m chatting with Victoria Welsby, Confidence and Body Love Coach from BAM POW LIFE, about why we are so scared of fat, what you can do to change your internal bias and what to do if you’re afraid your partner will leave you if you gain weight. We talk about: - Victoria’s story of being homeless, experiencing abuse and low self-esteem and how her adversity made her more resilient and helped her become an awesome fat activist, - We explore why society is so afraid of fat and what Victoria learned when she did a social experiment asking people their thoughts on fat bodies, - What the good fatty/bad fatty dichotomy is and why our culture is so obsessed with health, - How to challenge and change the internalized fatphobia and help others to see their biases, - What Victoria did when her partner told her that he would find her more attractive if she was thinner, - What to do if you’re in a relationship where you are afraid your partner will leave you if you gain weight, - Whether it’s possible to change your partner’s point of view and help them challenge their social conditioning, And so much more!
