When Leah and her husband decided to start a family, she found herself facing a daunting question: could she balance the career she'd worked so hard to build with the life she dreamed of creating at home? Would becoming a parent mean sacrificing her professional goals, or could she find a way to thrive in both worlds? In this special episode of Everyday Better, Leah brings her most pressing questions about balancing kids and career to three of her LinkedIn colleagues and fellow mothers: Jessi Hempel, host of the Hello Monday podcast, Courtney Coupe, Head of Original Programming and Alyssa Merwin, Vice President of Global Sales Solutions. In their conversation, the women get honest about the joys and challenges of being a working mother. They each share how becoming a parent changed their relationship to and definition of ambition, as well as reflect on how companies can better support working parents. This episode is for anyone who has both caretaking and career ambitions, anyone who feels curious about the existential questions embedded in the choice to become a parent and everyone who wants to show up as a more empathetic and supportive colleague to the working parents in their life.

Almost Live!: Still Alive

Even though some members of Almost Live! were pretty good at playing the parts of dumb people - none of them actually were stupid. Well, there was that one guy. Oh man, was he an idiot. He thought the Gates Foundation is a type of girdle. He thought the Kentucky Derby is a hat. He once tripped on a cordless phone. Yea, everybody remembers that guy. But one of the show's pioneering members wasn't just smart. He was sharp. In fact, it's his name: Jim Sharp. It was Sharp in 1984 - along with show host Ross Shafer - that together birthed Almost Live!, even though neither of them is a trained OB-GYN. And for four years, through growing pains, struggles to find an audience - and a paltry budget - they nonetheless created a show that won almost 40 Northwest Emmys. Some people are just plain funny. They think funny, they talk funny. But Jim Sharp knows funny. And that talent has informed his career from Almost Live! on. Through the years, he went from producing The Late Show on Fox, to moving on as an independent writer and producer of numerous TV programs and projects - always in the comedy realm. By the time he crossed the finish line to retirement a couple of years ago, Jim had risen to become Comedy Central's West Coast Executive Vice-President of Original Programming and Development. That's a really long title. It's also a pretty big deal. And the capper to a remarkable career. These days, Jim and his wife divide their time between homes in the Seattle area - and San Diego. Here now is Jim Sharp... in a sharp conversation... with a not so-sharp interviewer.

The special serves as a funeral for the year 2020 where our comedians deliver eulogies about what we’ve lost this year including casual sex, TV Cops, wearing pants and everything in between. Previously, Paige was the Manager of Scripted Television and Production at Will Packer Media. While there, she worked on AMBITIONS for OWN and BIGGER for BET+, along with numerous other development projects. She also previously worked at Showtime Networks in Original Programming on The Affair, Billions, SMILF, Black Monday, Masters of Sex, and Dice. Before that, she worked for Viola Davis in many different facets. Paige graduated from Spelman College, majoring in Biology but found her true passion in storytelling while interning at BET with Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd and Michelle Adams in casting. During her internship, she assisted in casting Fruitvale Station, Being Mary Jane, and The Start-Up. Paige’s enthusiasm and love for this industry is palpable. I love that we seem to be cut from the same cloth; both having to blaze our own paths. I laughed. I cried (during editing). It was refreshing to commiserate and celebrate the ups and downs of the hustle. About ShoteLock: ShoreLocks mandate is to protect and restore critically eroding coastlines through sustainable, proactive coastal maintenance around the globe. When sand looses its ability to bind with other sand particles, the result is increased erosion. Thus, hydrophobic sand that cannot bind with water is more easily washed away. ShoreLock promotes that relationship by the retention of interstitial water, facilitating the accretion of sand along the beach. By promoting hydrogen bonding, a liquid bridge is formed between grains of sand. This liquid bridge increases surface tension and allows natural accretion to occur through tidal wave action. ShoreLock also promotes dewatering below the surface level of the beach to help reduce escarpment. About Blayne Ross: Blayne is a creative entrepreneur, experience designer and producer known for award winning experiences, environments and content that sparks meaningful connections. He began his career in the entertainment industry in 2001 and quickly found a home working on the Emmy nominated HBO series Six Feet Under at the Greenblatt Janollari Studio. With a passion for complex stories that influence culture, Blayne became a Creative Executive in Original Programming for the Showtime Network, where he supervised "hit" series such as The L Word and Queer As Folk. He also helped develop the critically acclaimed, Peabody award winning political drama Brotherhood. Embracing his love of design and inspired physical environments, Blayne left Los Angeles for New York City to found a Design-Build shop, The Argyle Group. There, Blayne provided an end-to-end solution including architecture, interior design and construction services for clientele ranging from the Hamptons to Hawaii. Currently, he runs KAID a interior design and development company that has remodeled some of Manhattan's largest residential buildings in addition to developing furnished, single family, luxury, lifestyle properties. A triathlete, Blayne currently resides in New York City with a B.A in Advertising from the University of Florida and a Business Administration Concentration.

When the year started, I made it one of my 2020 resolutions to start reading again because up until then, the extent of it had become work emails and instagram captions. I was a huge English nerd so I always used to leave reading books and plays like The History Boys, anything by Arthur Miller, A Little Life, The Great Gatsby etc etc. One of the books I had the chance to read snippets of and have been extremely excited about it is Buy Yourself the F*cking Lillies. Take it from Chelsea Handler and Adam Grant, two of my favorite human beings on the planet, who called it “compelling, persuasive, and useful no matter where you are in your life,” and “a bracingly honest, funny read . . . like Wild meets You Are a Badass.” The book’s author Tara Schuster graces the podcast this week and I could not be more excited. After graduating from Brown University, she landed at Comedy Central where she’s had a storied career and now sits as the VP of Original Programming and Development. Some of the shows she’s been in charge of include Key and Peele and David Spade’s Lights Out - no big deal. In this episode, she talks about the lessons that Brown taught her, the evolution of her Comedy Central career and the inspiration for Buy Yourself the F*cking Lillies.

Rebecca Snow and Steve Gamester and Face2Face host David Peck talk about their new film Cheating Hitler: Surviving The Holocaust, survivors guilt, meaningful history and the power of memory, pivotal moments in personal stories and why we never should forget. Trailer You can watch the film here. Synopsis: Rose, Maxwell and Helen were 10, 9 and 7 years old when the Second World War began. Robbed of their childhood, they were old before they were young. They endured the terror of forced labour, killing squads and concentration camps. After the war, they discovered their families had been decimated, that their homes were reduced to rubble, and their possessions lost or stolen. Now, 75 years after the war ended, these three survivors are looking for answers to deeply personal questions they’ve carried with them their entire lives. Cheating Hitler is a modern-day investigation into lingering mysteries from the Holocaust. Three survivors and family members travel to Poland, Ukraine, and Lithuania exploring some of the hidden and rarely visited sites where the Holocaust occurred. They consult with historians, genealogists and forensic experts and uncover new life-changing information. Children have always been central to the story of the Holocaust. The most recognized victim, Anne Frank, was a child. And yet, for decades, the testimony of most child survivors was overlooked. Some felt overshadowed by the experiences of their elders, too traumatized to share their memories, or felt guilt for surviving and living long lives. This film focuses entirely on the unique experiences of children survivors, now in their final years, and often telling stories and revealing secrets on camera for the first time. Their testimony provides a powerful warning from history and a last chance to solve lingering mysteries. Cheating Hitler is about one of the darkest chapters of human history, but what shines through are stories of resilience, bravery and survival. About the Guests: Rebecca Snow is an award winning director, writer and producer specializing in history and social issue documentaries. Emilie Deutsch, Vice President, Original Programming and Features, CBS Sports spoke with me from New York about something that gets better every year. I am talking about NCAA March Madness Confidential, the great series of features that provides some of the best stories during the three week run to crown a national champion.Last year they gave America the story of Sister Jean the nun who was the good luck charm for Loyola Chicago. She became a pop icon and social media darling. So who will be that story we all fall in love with this year? This year they will feature Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Houston, Nevada, Marquette and Murray State each team will be the subject of a number of outstanding behind the scenes features. Those features not only can be seen not only during on-air CBS broadcasts but across multiple platforms on CBS Sports, Turner Sports, and the NCAA. Throughout the Tournament, features will run across multiple platforms – including studio coverage across TBS, CBS, TNT, and truTV – with online distribution via the official @MarchMadness Twitter and Facebook pages, @MarchMadnessTV, NCAA.com and CBS Sports and Turner Sports social media accounts.Promotional consideration for Stream On with Jim Williams comes from Boom Media. When the demands of her busy lifestyle took a toll on her health, the busy career maven found herself in the emergency room. Back and reproductive issues were revealed and the ensuing surgeries left her bedridden for weeks. Walker discovered that the surgery not only stripped her of her physical strength but also her sense of body confidence and power. Lea Walker at Aeriform Arts "My scars became a symbol of how my body had failed me. While stuck in bed I came to the conclusion that maybe I needed to finally slow down and just do something for me. My friend suggested a pole dance class. I figured it looked fun so what the heck," reveals Walker. Walker discovered that pole dance/fitness not only was great fun, but it restored her sense of 'self.' In addition, the exercise and movement led to her back pain subsiding and she was able to avoid additional operations. From pole dancing she moved on to aerial yoga. Aerial yoga makes use of hammocks, that provide aerial suspension for a total body workout incorporating the techniques of yoga, core conditioning, strength training, Pilates and more. Centered, confident and reconnected to her feminine side, Walker wanted to share her new found empowerment and Aeriform Arts was born !
