++++++++++Song-Tipps zur Folge++++++++++ "Ladytron", "Virginia Plain", "2HB", "Do The Strand", "In Every Dream Home a Heartache", "Grey Lagoons", "Editions of You", "Street Life", "Psalm", "The Thrill of It All", "Out of the Blue", "Prairie Rose", "Love Is The Drug", "End of the Line", "Dance Away", "Oh Yeah", "Same Old Scene" "Flesh And Blood" "Eight Miles High" "Jealous Guy (Maxi-Version), "More Than This" "Avalon" "Take A Chance With Me" "To Turn You On"

THE TROUBADOUR PODCAST - The Premier Red Dirt, Texas Country and Independent Music Podcast

Mike and the Moonpies front man, Mike Harmeier was singing in bars by his early teens.  Don’t take my word for it though.  Just check out their song, “Steak Night at the Prairie Rose” and that should give you a pretty good idea of just who Mike Harmeier is. Mike and the Moonpies were once known as Austin’s premier dancehall band with several residencies around town before more recently taking their show from coast to coast. One of the things that sticks out to me about the Moonpies is their use of “twinning” on steel and lead guitar on several of their songs.  If you don’t know what twinning is, never fear.  We discuss it a little further in depth in the episode. Their latest record, recorded at world famous, Abbey Road studios in London entitled Cheap Silver and Solid Country Gold is chock full of great songs and if you haven’t downloaded it yet, I highly encourage it. So here we go with episode #73 of The Troubadour featuring our interview with Mike Harmeier, frontman of Mike and the Moonpies. Welcome to season three! Shaughn and Ellen decide that if their spin-off podcast (#sola) was on season three they should be too! They kick off the pod with a Grape of Thrones, which they need a new name for. Grape of the Week? This week it's Semillon!Their guest this week is Prairie Rosé, author/host of the Bit by a Fox blog and podcast! They crack open a Mondeuse by Domaine d'Idylle, a chillable red from Savoie.Prairie specializes in cocktails but she actually got her start in the wine world—she's a trained sommelier. She loves nerding out on it all! They get into the ins and outs of studying it, and wonder why everyone is so intimidated by it. Prairie talks about the components of a cocktail—a base, an acid and a sweet are the elements of a perfect cocktail. And garnishes are important! They also play What's in the Glass? but get distracted by discussing the stress of wine press trips, Cyndi Lauper drama, the meaning of Prairie's blog, and making plans for visiting Temecula. And plans for Prairie and Ellen to intimidate an enemy customer of Shaughn—watch out world! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Tin Star (Roaring Brook Press) Skylight Books' very own Cecil Castellucci returns to launch her newest YA novel, a sci-fi adventure for the ages.  Cecil will follow a reading from her novel with a Q&A with JPL scientist Steve Collins! On their way to start a new life, Tula and her family travel on the "Prairie Rose," a colony ship headed to a planet in the outer reaches of the galaxy. All is going well until the ship makes a stop at a remote space station, the Yertina Feray, and the colonist's leader, Brother Blue, beats Tula within an inch of her life. An alien, Heckleck, saves her and teaches her the ways of life on the space station. When three humans crash land onto the station, Tula's desire for escape becomes irresistible, and her desire for companionship becomes unavoidable. But just as Tula begins to concoct a plan to get off the space station and kill Brother Blue, everything goes awry, and suddenly romance is the farthest thing from her mind.Cecil Castellucci is a two-time MacDowell Colony fellow, an award-winning author of five books for young adults, and the YA and children's book editor of the Los Angeles Review of Books. Born in New York City, Cecil lives in Los Angeles. For the research of Tin Star, Cecil attended LaunchPad, a NASA funded workshop intended to teach writers of science fiction about the most up-to-date and correct space science. Steve Collins is an Attitude Control engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.  Most recently Cruise ACS System Engineer for the Mars Curiosity Rover, Steve has worked on numerous NASA/JPL missions including Epoxi, Dawn, Deep Impact, MER, Deep Space One, Galileo and Mars Observer.  In flight, Steve's job includes keeping the spacecraft pointed in the right direction, performing trajectory corrections and figuring out "what the heck just happened??"  When he's not flying a robotic spacecraft around the solar system, Steve can be found playing soccer, racing his Miata, jamming on the Theremin with the band Artichoke, or acting on-stage with TACIT, Caltech's resident theater company.
