This episode is dedicated to my wonderful friend James Rocchi, who recently passed away at the age of 51. Today (12/29) was his birthday. It's mine as well. This was one of James' favorite "popcorn movies," so I sat down with TV writer Shawna Benson (@shawnabenson), who also loved James deeply, to discuss the over-the-top lunacy of Battleship. A few days before the WGA made its historic deal with the AMPTP, Jose and Javi made one last trip to the line, this time at Universal Studios, to interview our sisters, brothers, and others in the guild who bravely walked the lines to the triumphant end. Featuring interviews with established writers like Marc Bernardin, Julie and Shawna Benson, as well as our union representatives (who dropped amazing information on the organization of the strike... down to the black SUVs and secret WGA phones!) this is an amazing snapshot of the last days of a labor action that resulted in amazing gains for writers everywhere! Everywhere we look in education, we see the term "curriculum" - especially "the general curriculum" as it relates to students with disabilities. It even features prominently in IDEA. But what exactly do we mean by curriculum? Not everyone uses this word the same way. What if we thought differently about exactly what we're giving access to - and how we go about doing it? In this episode, we welcome special guest Shawna Benson. Shawna is the Program Director for the Center for Teaching Diverse Learners at OCALI. Shawna will talk with SST8's Dee Dee Howes about how we can reset our understanding of curriculum, to transform teaching and learning for students with disabilities. Co-Host: Dee Dee Howes, SST8 Educational Consultant About Our Guest: Shawna Benson is the Program Director at the Center for Teaching Diverse Learners at OCALI (Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence.) She has held this position for 13 years and before that, Ms. Benson served as an Associate Professor and Program Director of the Disability Center at Urbana University. Batgirl and the Birds of Prey, written by Julie Benson and Shawna Benson, are embarking on perhaps the last story arc by these two writers. Mark, Sarah, and Ashford discuss this intense story arc opener. Batgirl has hacked into the Calculator's computer system, extracting his database to prevent crimes before they happen. Although Barbara is trying to do the greater good, perhaps she is placing her loved ones in harms way.
Our second of three episodes from the 1st DC in D.C. event features roundtable interviews with Candice Patton, Caity Lotz, Danielle Panabaker, Mariko Tamaki, Shea Fontana, Agnes Garbowska, Julie Benson, and Shawna Benson. This episode focuses on the panel Wonder Women.
Lots of fun catching up with the Benson sisters (Batgirl and The Birds Of Prey) and Tom King (Batman -Mister Miracle) after the big event DC Comics held last weekend in the nation's capital. You'll hear about their panels and red carpet encounters, plus Tom gives more background about Sanctuary, his concept to explore Heroes suffering from PTSD after their near death experiences .Then we all settle in for some classic movie talk while we play a round of Old Movie Trivia. How well will you do compared to us? Play along.

Julie and Shawna Benson are back with the finale of this 3-Part Story Arc with Roge Antonio on pencils. The Daughters of Gotham are not playing around with the males in Batgirl's city. As convincing as the D.O.G. are with their sales pitch, Batgirl and the Extended Birds of Prey are not buying. What do you think about the finale and the story arc as a whole? This is the last story of the year. Did it end the year with a bang? Ashford believes that this is one of the most interesting villains in Gotham that needed some more story. For all intense and purposes, the Daughters of Gotham achieved their goal. Too bad the best heroes in Gotham happen to be featured in this title. Bam!!
Black Canary, Batgirl, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and The Huntress are all in this action packed story by Julie and Shawna Benson. There is a lot of buzz going around about corporate greed, and Poison Ivy is seeing green with anger. Can the Birds talk her out of making an irreversible decision? Will Gus be able to break free from Calculator's blackmail?
Batgirl and the Birds of Prey 11 by Julie and Shawna Benson answer a lot of questions. Will these answers tear the Birds apart? Listen to his podcast to hear our candid answers about the issues broached in this excellent comic.
