Joe and Danny are currently on tour together, with their respective band's Cold War Kids and Husbands. Danny shares his first memories of hearing music with his dad on long drives and how his older brother informed his musical tastes as a youngster.  He tells us how 9-5 work life has motivated the trajectory of Husbands; how celebrating life is key to the culture of Husbands and why the synchronicity of the current lineup is influencing their songwriting. We learn how the Metallica movie Some Kind Of Monster inspired Joe's favorite Husbands song, why Danny is dedicated to landing a kick-flip before he dies and we hear a couple tunes. Metallica, the greatest and most influential metal band of the 20th century, owns the most stacked discography in the genre. Each member of Horns Up is a lifelong fan of Metallica, and each of us have grown up listening the thrashers from LA. Formed in 1981 by guitarist and front man James Hetfield and Drummer Lars Ulrich, the young alcoholics set off to reform the metal genre. The aged rockers are fresh off Boston Calling 2022 and featured in the new season of Stranger Things. They've proven relevant over four decades after four decades and over a dozen full length albums. Although, many thought they were finished in the early 2000's with the release of Some Kind Of Monster. They emerged years later with Death Magnetic, proving they still had what it takes. Little did their fanbase know, they were far from finished. The boys in Horns Up discuss and listen to their favorite Metallica tracks of all time. The songs that influenced their listening tastes and their musicianship. Jay from How To Kill A Sacred Cow went on to form George Orwell The Musical. Jeff Frenandez writes bangers to this day. And Shane of course writes all of the original music heard on this very show. It was very difficult coming up with a top ten list of Metallica songs. There was a ranking system agreed upon that quickly fell apart. And they bickered over solos and beats. Also, the best bassist, and best covers. However, they all agreed upon one thing. Lars is Fake! Some Kind of Monster is a documentary film directed by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky about the making of Metallica's 8th studio album, St. Anger. The sessions began in the Presidio military bunkers after the sudden departure of long time bass player Jason Newsted and would soon come to a halt due to James Hetfield's stint in rehab for alcohol and other addictions. The documentary captures all of this in brutal honesty as the band struggles to regain their footing as one of the most powerful bands in rock and roll history. In part 1, we sit down to watch the documentary together for this first time in MUYP history. Another strange tale from the world of music here as Cian and Donal delve into Metallica’s infamously difficult phase during the recording of their much-maligned St Anger album. Metallica stand head and shoulders above most other groups in the metal world, and at the time they were making this record their star was still shooting up. But personal problems left them wracked with insecurity and an identity crisis that played out onscreen in the documentary Some Kind Of Monster. The film is full of unintentionally hilarious moments as these monster egos tiptoe around one another on eggshells, using nonsense therapy-language, and making ludicrous musical decisions. It was an incredibly strange time for one of the biggest bands on Earth, and the guys have a lot to say about it. So grab yourself a coffee, get FRANTIC, and fall madly in anger with IT NEVER GETS RESPECT: METALLICA AND THE MAKING OF ST ANGER. This week we chat about why the Rev is not with us (Spoiler Alert:  he makes it back before the cast is over), we review the 14 year old Metallica documentary "Some Kind Of Monster", and Thee Ted Smith joins us for a serious moment (yet we still find a way to laugh through it).  Finally, Thrill jumps in on the show  and introduces us to "Apartheid Sausage"...OK, it's not really called that, but Brian from Uli's Sausage joins us to talk about some of their delicious meat!

It's Metallica's masterpiece film. Upon first viewing you're thinking..."what happened to my band?!" Over the years of us watching 'Some Kind Of Monster,' we realized that this was an era of the band that needed to happen and we're thankful that they let the cameras in on it. It's the lowest point in their career but it's what ultimately led them to get healthier, make great records and still reign as the greatest heavy band in the world. Neste episódio: Anthrax, Dio, Van Halen, Blackning, Iron Maiden e Metallica.

Pablo
