What if everything you were taught about success and leadership was causing you to abandon your own needs? This conversation will completely change how you see work, identity, and what it means to truly win in life.In this episode of The Hard Skills, Dr. Mira Brancu sits down with Dr. CarolLaine M. Garcia, a Dominican-American I/O psychologist, decolonial researcher, and creator of Queen Mindset Leadership(R) who spent a decade consulting for Fortune 500 companies before walking away to rebuild leadership from lived experience.CarolLaine unpacks why self-abandonment has been typecast as leadership, and what it actually means to lead from wholeness rather than exhaustion. You'll learn about the four data centers of mind, heart, body, and spirit that most leaders leave completely offline, why burnout recovery starts with tuning into the intelligences you've been trained to ignore, and how personal development rooted in creativity and decolonial thinking can transform the way you lead yourself and others.Whether you're navigating burnout prevention, questioning traditional leadership development, or simply tired of performing a version of success that doesn't feel like yours, this conversation will give you both the language and the permission to lead differently.Subscribe for weekly conversations on leadership, mental health, and the hard skills nobody teaches you.Learn more about Dra. Leaders want high-trust teams, but their daily actions might be actively destroying them. Most leaders believe they're building trust and leading the right way, but their teams quietly experience the opposite. Are you experiencing an intention-action gap in creating the workplace culture you want?In this episode of The Hard Skills, Dr. Mira Brancu sits down with lawyer-turned-leadership expert Valerie Zolezzi-Wyndham, who breaks down one of the most overlooked problems in modern leadership: the intention–action gap, where leaders genuinely want to create inclusive, high-trust workplaces, but their actions fail to match those intentions. Drawing from her background in law, Valerie explains why relying on rules, compliance, or legal frameworks alone can actually damage workplace culture. She shares how leaders unknowingly break trust, why fast-paced environments amplify bias, and how companies often solve the wrong problems entirely. You'll also learn about her company's 8 Leadership Principles, why empathy and courage are often misunderstood, and how “hidden strengths” can reshape how leaders grow. If you're a manager, entrepreneur, or team leader trying to build trust and engagement in your organization, this episode gives you a practical, science-backed framework to close the gap between intention and impact.Learn more about Valerie Zolezzi-Wyndham at:https://www.linkedin.com/in/valeriezolezziwyndham https://promotinggoodllc.com/ IF YOU ENJOYED THIS EPISODE, CAN I ASK A FAVOR?We do not receive any funding or sponsorship for this podcast. Most people think being a "good follower" means staying silent and obeying. In reality, your silence might be the very thing destroying your organization from the inside out.In this episode of The Hard Skills, Dr. Mira Brancu speaks with leadership expert and author Ira Chaleff about the concept of courageous followership and why leadership success depends not only on strong leaders but also on followers who are willing to speak up. They explore how followers can influence leaders, the four styles of followership, and the balance between supporting leadership and constructively challenging decisions when necessary. Ira also explains the idea of intelligent disobedience and how individuals can develop the courage and critical thinking needed to question authority when actions conflict with shared values or organizational goals. This episode offers practical insights on navigating power dynamics at work, building healthier leader–follower relationships, and using your voice responsibly to strengthen teams and organizations. Whether you're navigating a corporate hierarchy or dealing with a toxic political environment, this conversation provides a roadmap for leveraging your influence, setting boundaries, and ensuring your voice is heard. Your team isn't resistant to change. They're grieving, and most leadership training never names it. That's why every "move on" conversation backfires and every engagement initiative fails. In this three-part compilation of The Hard Skills, Dr. Mira Brancu walks through what ambiguous workplace grief actually is, why restructures and layoffs create real loss that looks nothing like typical grief or depression, and how leaders keep mislabeling it as disengagement, low morale, or quiet quitting.Part one shows you how to spot the difference between grief, burnout, change resistance, and institutional betrayal. Part two breaks down the three well-meaning leader responses that make everything worse (the minimizer, the false optimist, and the conflict avoider) and why even great change management fails without a grief-informed leadership framework. Part three gives you the exact framework, including specific language you can use with your team after layoffs, a merger, or a reorg. If you lead people through organizational change, this is the episode that will change how you show up.Subscribe for weekly conversations on leadership, burnout, and mental health at work.IF YOU ENJOYED THIS EPISODE, CAN I ASK A FAVOR?We do not receive any funding or sponsorship for this podcast. Is workplace tension draining your team's energy? Discover how a well-timed humorous comment might resolve issues faster than another difficult conversation. And when it doesn't.In this powerful episode of The Hard Skills, Dr. Mira Brancu sits down with experiential consultant, psychologist, and self-proclaimed “comedic philosopher,” Dr. Daniel Cruz Lattimore to unpack a critical, overlooked leadership tool. Humor isn't just about getting laughs; it's a strategic driver of psychological safety and team resilience. You'll learn when humor is misused and acts as cloaked bullying and damages trust, how to properly read your organization's unwritten cultural rules before attempting a joke, and why the improv concept of "yes, and" builds unstoppable, supportive teams. Whether you are dealing with heavy change management or simply want a low-risk way to spark genuine connection in your daily huddles, this episode proves that sometimes the heaviest work requires a lighter touch.Subscribe to The Hard Skills podcast to master authentic leadership and transform your workplace culture today!Find Dr. Lattimore here:https://www.instagram.com/omiyoconsultingllc?igsh=MW9iMjN5c214ODItMQ== https://www.linkedin.com/in/daniellattimore/ IF YOU ENJOYED THIS EPISODE, CAN I ASK A FAVOR?We do not receive any funding or sponsorship for this podcast. What skills actually matter in technical careers now that the work is more digital, more automated, and more interconnected?Industrial employers are not asking schools to choose between hard skills and soft skills. They're asking for both, and they still need the hard skills to come first. At Bosch, Justin Allen sees that every day: teamwork, drive, and professionalism matter, but technical problems don't get solved unless people understand the systems, tools, and engineering underneath them.In this episode:The hard skills vs. soft skills debate: soft skills matter, but technical work can't get done without hard skillsAre digital skills now a soft skill? What employers really mean when they say they want drive, work ethic, and teamworkHow MAGMA has figured out how to successfully re-skill the current workforceHow technical careers are shifting from narrow expertise to systems thinking3 Big Takeaways from this Episode:1. Industrial employers still expect hard skills for all technical positions, not just "soft" or "employability" skills. Justin says it directly: while companies like Bosch value teamwork, drive, and professionalism, technical problems don't get solved unless people understand the systems, tools, and engineering behind the work. It's an important distinction for schools that hear employers talk about soft skills and assume the technical bar has somehow been lowered.2. Digital fluency is moving from specialized skill to baseline expectation. Justin argues that younger workers are already showing up comfortable with digital tools, automation, scripts, and AI, while many employers are still adjusting to how fast that shift is happening. In technical roles, that means software awareness and digitalization are becoming part of the expected skill stack.3. Schools and workforce programs need tighter alignment with industry's talent and skill needs. Justin shares how he's working directly with universities to help shape curriculum, evaluate where students are still missing key competencies, and bringing real engineering problems into capstone projects so learning stays connected to actual technical work. He also points to MAGMA and Michigan's workforce ecosystem as examples of how employers, public partners, and training providers can help incumbent workers build new skills, retrain for technical roles, and stay aligned with what industry needs now.Resources in this Episode:Learn more about Bosch: https://www.bosch.us/Learn more about MAGMA: https://miautomobility.org/More links & resources on the episode page: https://techedpodcast.com/allenWe want to hear from you! In this episode, Dr. Long reflects on returning to Kentucky after time in Arizona, adjusting back to rhythm, and rediscovering the value of hard skills—from cutting trees and building fences to baking bread, fishing, and living more intentionally. What can you actually do with your hands? If you're always working harder but still feel like it's never enough, this episode will hit hard. Here's the hidden cycle that keeps high achievers stuck, burned out, and constantly doubting themselves. In this episode of The Hard Skills, Dr. Mira Brancu explores the vicious cycle that keeps high achievers stuck in burnout, overworking, and self-doubt, using the powerful story of Elaine, a high-performing physician who proved her capability repeatedly yet was still overlooked and undervalued in her leadership role. This episode breaks down why driven professionals push themselves beyond their limits, how people-pleasing and perfectionism develop as coping mechanisms, and why external success never truly fills the internal need for validation. It also challenges the common belief that these struggles are personal weaknesses, revealing instead how workplace environments and systemic pressures play a major role in creating imposter syndrome, fear, and exhaustion. If you've ever felt like you're doing everything right but still not getting the recognition or results you deserve, this conversation will help you rethink your approach to success, leadership, and self-worth.Stop the cycle and start leading with agency. Are employers hurting themselves by only asking for 'soft skills' and ignoring their real technical needs? How can homeschool students get the same access to STEM labs as students in traditional schools? And what can education leaders learn from the way the Manhattan Project mobilized talent and innovation to solve an enormous problem? These questions (and more!) came directly from the you, and we're answering them on this episode of Ask Us Anything. Entrepreneurship, career strategy, workforce skills, and the rapidly evolving role of AI in modern organizations - we cover them all!In this episode:The best times to take entrepreneurial risksWhy your professional network is probably bigger than you thinkThe "soft skills" issue and why employers are actually hurting themselves by asking educators to teach themRapid-fire real examples of AI being used in business3 Big Takeaways from this Episode:1.Early-career risk can be an advantage for entrepreneurs. Matt explains that early in your career the consequences of failure are often much smaller, which makes it an ideal time to experiment with starting a business or pursuing a bold opportunity. With fewer financial obligations and more flexibility, young professionals often have the greatest ability to take meaningful risks.2. Industry is hurting itself by only asking schools for soft skills instead of technical ones. Businesses frequently tell educators they want graduates who communicate well, collaborate, and show initiative. So why is industry so shocked that there aren't enough students with any technical background or interest? Employers: take a look at your job postings and start asking education to teach all the skills for those jobs: soft and technical (hard) skills alike.3. Private schools have a unique opportunity to innovate in STEM education. Because they often have more flexibility than traditional public systems, private schools can move quickly to adopt emerging technologies, modern equipment, and new instructional models. That freedom creates an opportunity to design programs that expose students to advanced STEM fields earlier and more creatively.Resources in this Episode:Jack Dorsey's Block to Lay Off 40% of Its Workforce in AI RemakeOppenheimer movieDeveloping an AI Strategy: Best Practices for Business Leaders - Todd Wanek, CEO of Ashley Furniture IndustriesUsing AI to Build Better Relationships with Your Network - Canay Deniz, CEO of RenMore notes & resources on the episode page!We want to hear from you! You will learn why 72% of employees are "passengers" in the AI revolution , how to identify and avoid the "Vanity Coaches" who are scamming you , and the specific difference between therapy and executive coaching. Most people wait for a mentor to find them or believe that supervisors automatically become mentors and that networking is only for extroverts, but these ideas can quietly damage your career growth. Career success isn't built on hard work alone; it's shaped by the people and relationships you build along the way.In this episode of The Hard Skills, leadership advisor and psychologist Dr. Mira Brancu challenges two common career myths: that supervisors automatically become mentors and that networking is only for extroverts. She explores how mentorship can happen informally through observation and shared experiences, and explains the concept of “work netting,” an authentic approach to networking focused on meaningful connections rather than forced small talk. What if the biggest career breakthrough comes before you feel ready? Most leaders believe career growth is a ladder. It's actually a series of "scary" leaps into the unknown. Most professionals wait for confidence before taking the next step but real career growth happens just outside your comfort zone.In this episode, Dr. Mira Brancu explores why career growth rarely follows a linear path and how the most transformative opportunities often appear before we feel fully prepared. She breaks down the psychology behind stretch opportunities, explaining how stepping just outside your comfort zone within the Zone of Proximal Development builds real capability and long-term career momentum. Learn how to evaluate new roles using a practical five-question framework, why feelings of being underqualified are often misleading, and how social conditioning influences confidence in career decisions. Dr. Brancu also introduces the importance of building an “Informal Board of Directors,” highlighting how mentors, feedback, and strategic support systems help professionals navigate uncertainty, develop resilience, and turn intimidating career leaps into defining moments of growth.Ready to stop playing it safe?

In an industry built on speed, what actually sustains long-term success. In this Industry Spotlight, Kortney Harmon sits down with Elizabeth Rosenberg to examine why trust and reputation remain recruiting's most durable advantage.Drawing on decades of experience advising executives on communication and personal brand, Elizabeth offers a grounded perspective on how credibility is built through everyday behavior. The conversation explores where transactional habits quietly undermine relationships, why visibility without intention can weaken trust, and how recruiters shape their reputations long before deals are closed. Rather than focusing on tactics, this discussion reframes personal brand as a reflection of consistency, judgment, and how leaders show up when it matters most. The conversation reveals why lasting relationships—not speed alone—define long-term success, and how investing in trust and authenticity shapes both stronger firms and more durable careers.______________________Follow Elizabeth Rosenberg on Linked: LinkedIn | ElizabethCheck out her website hereFollow Crelate on LinkedIn: CrelateWant to learn more about Crelate? Why do we make hard skills and soft skills battle each other for attention? It's dumb. They're both important. The problem is, they are more fluid than we assume. Your hard skills can improve or get worse and your soft skills will need to change with different relationships. There is no perfect way to train either of them but the best teams know how to use them to build something significant. I wanted to invest some time in the process teams and leaders need to work through to help their people use each of these. Do this well and you'll find an incredible generous culture that attracts top talent and loyal customers. Have a skilled rest of your week.
Advocating to transform soft skills into hard skills to improve patient and caregiver experiences.

“Hard skills(硬技能)” 和 “soft skills(软技能)” 之间的区别真的在于 “硬度” 吗?其实不然。在个人发展和职场中,“hard skills” 通常指那些 “通过培训和学习获得的、可以用证书或学历证明的技能”,而 “soft skills” 则往往指的是 “个人的行事特点或完成工作的方法、思维或技巧”。听节目,跟主持人 Phil 和步理学习这两者之间的区别以及相关的英语知识。
What happens when tech built to boost performance erodes trust? We unpack the legal, cultural, and human cost—and how leaders can protect psychological safety.WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:Imagine discovering that the same workplace tech meant to make your job easier is quietly dismantling trust, blurring boundaries, and draining morale. In this episode of The Hard Skills, we pull back the curtain on how tools like productivity trackers, AI decision-making, and remote monitoring reshape not just workflows—but the culture, safety, and well-being of entire teams. You'll hear how leaders face a growing legal and ethical duty of care in tech-integrated workplaces, and what it takes to meet that responsibility in real terms—not just policy statements. This isn't theory—it's a deep, unflinching look at the human side of workplace tech. ***ABOUT OUR GUEST:Dr. Cameron Stockdale is an internationally recognized leader in organizational behaviour, workplace wellness, and change leadership. So bleibt dein Satz glaubwürdig. Trotz aller Formulierungen gilt: Ein Spruch ersetzt niemals Expertise. Vielmehr ist er das Salz, allerdings nicht die Suppe. Daher kombiniere jeden Satz mit Zahlen, Resultaten oder Referenzen. Somit verwandelst du Emotion in Überzeugung.

Send us a text! It used to be that went sent our boys into groups like the Boy Scouts of America to train for manhood. But as those organizations have drifted left, we lack male spaces for discipleship and formation for young men. At St. Brendan's Academy and Refuge Church, we're trying to forge a new path forward. Recently, pastor Ethan Senn and Tate Taylor took some of the young men from Refuge Church on a field training exercise in the high Uintas of Utah. During their time in the mountains, the boys learned land navigation, fire building, firearms handling, and various other survival skills. It's all part of the Titus 2 program, which aims to train boys in hard skills and mental fortitude in preparation for manhood. 2025 New Christendom Press Conference: https://www.newchristendompress.com/2025Sign up for the NCP Games:https://beregenerated.com/games/Fuel your training with Mt. The findings suggest significant implications for safety education and professional development, challenging institutions to reconsider how they prepare safety practitioners for increasingly complex organizational environments. Rather than perpetuating false dichotomies between hard and soft skills, we argue for an educational approach that develops both technical and narrative capabilities in an integrated manner, particularly crucial for safety change management where success depends on both procedural competence and compelling storytelling. Soft Skills, Hard Skills, Attributes, Traits, Competencies—these words sometimes get used interchangeably when we talk about assessment and team building. As the momentum around skills-based hiring increases, it is important to know what we really mean when we talk about skills generically and how exactly we are measuring someone's ability to do a particular role. My guest this week is Rich Diviney, founder of The Attributes. Rich is a former Commanding Officer in the US Navy SEALs, where he was responsible for assessing and selecting the elite of the elite for the famous SEAL Team Six. He now speaks and writes about the use of attributes in team building and hiring. We had a fantastic discussion about the difference between skills and attributes in the context of hiring and development. We also discuss my somewhat surprising results from taking Rich's attributes test. In the interview, we discuss: Identifying the elite of the elite for SEAL Team Six The difference between attributes and skills Understanding how people react in times of stress, challenge, and uncertainty How do you measure and assess attributes? Are soft skills and attributes the same thing? Can you develop attributes? The difference between perseverance, resilience, and tenacity What are companies getting wrong when it comes to skills and hiring? The "Dream Team Paradox" When AI takes over skills, attributes become even more critical. What does the future look like for hiring and managing talent?
