Staring contest between you and a blank page... Ready? Set? GO!  None of us enjoy the feeling of knowing we have something to share yet being unable to put what's in our brain into words on a page. Whatever our personal obstacles are, this episode of Grey Matters will reset your thinking and help you believe that writing whatever is inside you is possible.  Often we get stuck on believing that writing something as intensive and, well, as big as a book should be something that just comes out ready for the world. Yet we wouldn't think that way about baking a cake or raising a child, would we? The best things take time, effort, work, and (when possible) tweaking all along the way.  Steve talks to guest Vicki McLeod - award-winning writer, coach, and entrepreneur - all about how she breaks writing down into three main areas, and then into three main themes, and then into three main topics... You get a bit of an idea of how she tackles writing major projects, and thus how you can make your writing possible a bit more digestible than daunting.  Get in your mind the writing project you've been putting off for far too long and get ready to "break the log jam" with this episode of the Grey Matters podcast! Over in the Andratx area the site of some of the world's most expensive real estate you've got to say that we might already have reached that condition. Certainly in the last year where there has been little work available you have to wonder how anyone living in the area has survived. This thought also occurred to George Dudfield and his dad Alec. George moved to Majorca thirteen years ago with his family. He is now a 21-year-old university student, and in his third year reading Management and German language and culture at Lancaster University, but like all students he is currently studying online. Since moving to the island they have been working towards a dream, which is very close to becoming a reality. Emelie is a competitive show jumper originally from Sweden, and Dan comes from a hospitality background, managing groups of pubs, restaurants and hotels in the UK, and creating an events company in Mallorca specialising in cycling; they have combined these experiences and together with a love of wine, fun and community they have created “Ses Rotes, Wine and Horses.”The Ses Rotes estate, which is close to Esporles, was something of a find. “When we first came to the island we kept my horses at livery, but we were always looking for somewhere to buy and develop,” said Emelie. When the couple discovered the Ses Rotes finca in 2017 they knew that their project could begin. Ses Rotes was originally the smaller house on the Canet estate. Extending along the Esporles valley, it dates back over 200 years. The fertile soil of the land around Ses Rotes was used as small holdings for the inhabitants of Esporles to grow their own vegetables. In the late 1960's, the estate was reinvented as a venue for large parties. With a huge restaurant, a disco and riding arena, it was the perfect setting to enjoy a typical “Fiesta Andaluza” in the countryside. On a night, you would regularly see up to 500 people: a mix of locals and tourists, enjoying a display of traditional Spanish horses whilst feasting on roasted meat followed by dancing into the early hours of the morning. As the tourism in Mallorca evolved, so did Ses Rotes. Th

Things online move fast! Is your business keeping up? Does your business need too? We dive into this question and more as we tackle the Growing Digital Divide: Helping Businesses on the Outside of the Leading Edge!   The Growing Digital Divide: Helping Businesses on the Outside of the Leading Edge! Businesses can struggle to keep up with the fast changes in the digital world.  Just this spring we were all talking about the need to use video on Facebook as the "leading edge."  That hasn't changed, but some changes by Google+ have made that network less of a "social media" tool and more of a utility.  In my mind, Google+ is declining in value.  Were you using Facebook video yet or trying to ramp up your Google+ use? Add to that the rage of live streaming and the onslaught of Meerkat and Periscope this summer and business marketers could feel they were behind.  I confess I didn't really jump in on Periscope or Meerkat that much.  I experimented but it wasn't a clear fit.  I'm glad I didn't because (1) my audience wasn't really there and (2) both of those livestreaming apps was then (in my opinion) superseded by Blab! Blab, to me, made more sense primarily because of efficiencies.  I have a podcast audience.  Some listeners wanted that podcast to be video.  Video works well on Facebook.  So I could do a "Blab" and use their tools to then convert it into multiple pieces of content: The Live event Blab A podcast audio file A video replay for YouTube A video to post to Facebook A blog post with audio and video in it! BOOM! I was sold!  That's five distinct content options from one live event.  That's what I needed!  A way to reach my audience in multiple forms where they are at.... and for me to do if efficiently! Some businesses in the leading edge of digital flow with all these online changes easily.  Many businesses, however, don't.  They are lost in the digital overload. In this episode, I sit with Jessika Phillips of Now Marketing Group and Donna Gilliland of MOS Training to discuss this trend.  Along the way we invite in my friend Vicki McLeod from Maple Ridge, BC, Canada, and we --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/halftime-mike-mike-gingerich/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/halftime-mike-mike-gingerich/support
