Twice 5 Miles welcomes renaissance thinker Conor Kennedy to the microphone. This show, which I recorded in the spring of 2019, is titled Dublin Defines Me. If you find yourself defined by place or closely identified with the land you call home, you'll vibe with this conversation, and you'll quickly understand why I titled this show Dublin Defines Me. Sadly, cancer took Conor from this world in 2019. I'm posting this show again because of its timeless content. Like so many from Ireland, Conor cherished storytelling, books, and reading. He thought deeply about local and global dilemmas and offered thoughtful insights that asked you to pause. While Dublin Defined Conor, it would be fair to say that Conor did his bit to define Dublin. Conor would never say, while Dublin Defines Me; I define Dublin, but many in his circle would without hesitation say such a thing of Conor. Conor was also one of Ireland's legendary Advertising executives. The company he founded, Javelin Advertising Agency (www.javelinagency.com), continues as one of the top advertising agencies in Europe alongside such prominent players as Ogilvy, Sachi, and Publicis. While advertising was Conor's day job, contemplation was his life. Often you'd see him with his long white hair flowing over his tall shoulders wander the streets of his home town darting in and out of books shops, stopping along the way to chat with shopkeepers or lifelong friends. I suspect many thought Conor must have wandered out of a 19th-century novel to lift a glass and sing with the band playing at the pubs. On November evening, Conor and I met fifteen years ago in a small town called Dalkey 12K west of Dublin. He arrived fully Conor, jacket properly rumpled, long white hair in place, a fancy watch, and an expensive bottle of wine. He was hungry for supper and ready to tell a few stories. We talked way past midnight. That night, Conor slept on the couch because the stories took us way past the last train to Dublin. Enjoy this show. Here's to Conor Kennedy and you while you listen.

At last, Michelle Ghilotti, my FIRST female guest! I’ve been following her for years. She has shared her story and is unafraid of being vulnerable and putting herself out there to support other humans. A former advertising professional who worked on mega brands including Starbucks and Nike, she has been an entrepreneur for several years as the owner of a global branding, coaching and empowerment agency. Michelle is also the creator of several life maximizing programs focused on making happiness your business by creating your authentic brand including the Greater Good Party. Tune in to hear Michelle’s take on:   Why creative ideas come to you? And what it’s like to use your courage to bring a passion project to life as is the case for Michelle and the Greater Good Party?   What happens when you follow what feels good? How does your creativity lead you to purpose? And how does this all lead us to passion?   How she worked through the grieving process in ways that healed her? What are some unexpected ways to cope with grief?   The ways that she thinks about time in light of her experiences helping refugees in Greece and hospice patients.   How you can take greater control of your life by reframing your own greatest personal challenges and facing your fears.   Some of the clues that you should listen to that may be telling you that you are spending too much time solving the wrong problems? How to know when you are solving the wrong problem? This is perfect for marketers or advertising professionals who don’t feel fully engaged at work. If this is you then schedule a free 60-minute breakthrough session with me: www.melissallarena.com/sessions   How can we think about courage and the different ways that men and women show their own forms of courage? Listen to how Michelle thinks about courage and trying things on for size. Shaun graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Finance. He later went on to work on Wall Street for Chase Manhattan Bank, Paine Webber and American Express. Being in a tower during 9/11 was a turning point for him that lead him to branch out on his own in 2002 to launch his online business, NicNatDirect.com, and flip real estate property in Brooklyn. Later in 2006 Shaun’s desire to pass  on the knowledge that he had gained over his career to the next generation lead to the concept of CLEAN. Watching her single mother work two jobs to provide for her 4 children, Dionne was not afraid to roll up her sleeves to pursue her dream.  In 2015 she found her calling that lead her away from the fashion industry.
