I honestly love conversing with her. We could literally chat for hours about anything. We even joked about starting our own podcast.Jackie has been dancing for over 30yrs, and has been involved in the Australian street dance community since 2007.Initially dipping her toes in various styles in Sydney, her obsession with House dance led her to New York where she lived for over 5yrs. During this time, she gained knowledge from the pioneers of the House, Hip Hop, Waacking and Vogue scenes, and immersed in the NYC underground social dance culture.Over the years, Jackie has been a consistent practitioner and teacher of these styles in Australia's growing street/club dance scene and is especially passionate about staying true to the cultural roots of African-American social dances. In this conversation, we dived into the following:A quick timeline of her early dance education.Growing up in the 80s.Having a mentor vs being inspired.First trip to NYC and falling in love instantaneously.Lineages of movement, and it's importance. The tension between focusing and letting go in freestyle.Focusing on feeling instead of filming your dance.Lessons we can learn from social dancing.Logo: @lawrencetandesignsAnimation: @cold_tea_artIntro Track: melaniac. - we're just some motherf****ing kids

Welcome to part 2 of our conversation with nurse/dancer/musician/activist Marina Stankov-Hodge. We originally did not plan on having a 2 part episode, but our "post" conversation talk provided to be so good, we decided to share it anyway! We talk about Black Trans deaths, the phobia in Black culture with the queer community, and the problem with hypermasculinity. We discuss different aspects of street dance that originated in gay clubs like Waacking and battles, and the street dance community's responsibility to shed light on its origins. We agree one of the most important things we can be doing right now is having conversations with our families, our friends, and anyone who is willing to listen. And this is an ongoing conversation, it can't just stop with one narrative. In closing, she shares a book that's been helping her gain perspective, Ross Gay's The Book of Delights. Marina has such a unique talent of explaining really complicated topics from a thoughtful and educated perspective, and we were so grateful for her time! We can't wait until we have her on again. Be well, stay safe, and thank you for staying home.Subscribe to our NEW channel on YouTube for behind the scenes footage!--Rate and review us wherever you listen to podcasts!Let us know how we're doing: therealbtpod@gmail.comVisit our BRAND NEW website! www.bitchtalkpodcast.comFollow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.Listen in every Monday from 6:00 - 6:30 AM on BFF.FMPOWERED BY GO-TO Productions
