Homegrown experts in Krumping, Waacking, Vogue and Hip Hop dance styles are about to be celebrated in a new dedicated event. THE NEST: Street Styles Solo Festival is the first of what the organisers hope will be many. It's aimed at bringing in new audiences for street-style dancing, as well as offering a rare opportunity for the dancers. They're all being commissioned to create new work for the week-long event at Auckland's Basement Theatre. The dancers are used to the streets of Tamaki Makaurau being their performance space. Ooshcon Masseurs is one of the The Nest's organisers. Lynn Freeman talks with him, and with one of the dancers shoulder-tapped to present a new work, Hayley Walters-Tekahika, who's also an actor, teacher and youth worker. THE NEST: Street Styles Solo Festival is on at the Basement Theatre in Auckland, starting this Tuesday.
Women and men experiencing pelvic pain often suffer in silence. Dr Jane Chalmers is an expert on pelvic pain and hopes we can open the conversation and raise awareness.Jane and I chat about the causes of pelvic pain, interventions and treatment options, and we delve into an area she is passionate about - women’s health. Our discussion encompasses; endometriosis, vulvodynia, period pain, the pelvic floor, the importance of Kegel exercises with a few examples, and Krumping (I had no idea what that was either!)To end on a positive note, Jane and I discuss the female orgasm.SOME MEDICAL TERMS USEDEndometriosis - a condition in which bits of the tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grow in other parts of the body. Like the uterine lining, this tissue builds up and sheds in response to monthly hormonal cycles. However, there is no natural outlet for the blood discarded from these implants. Instead, it falls onto surrounding organs, causing swelling and inflammation.Laparoscopy - examination of the interior of the abdomen using a laparoscope (a type of endoscope).Prostatitis - inflammation of the prostate gland.Vulvodynia - chronic pain of the vulva, the external or visible region of the female genitalia, in the absence of vulvar or vaginal infection or skin disease.LINKS MENTIONED IN THE PODCASTDr Jane Chalmers, University of SA: https://people.unisa.edu.au/Jane.ChalmersJane's Twitter handle @KJaneChalmersPelvic Pain Foundation of Australia: https://www.pelvicpain.org.au/?v=ef10366317f4 Endometriosis Australia: https://www.endometriosisaustralia.orgEndoActive: https://endoactive.org.auHOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THE PODCASTPlease tell your friends about the podcast and share it with them.Follow me on Instagram @vibrant_lives_podcastFollow my Facebook page: @vibrantlivespodcastIf you could rate and review the podcast on iTunes, that would be super helpful.Purchasing a book from my website is an easy way to support the podcast too. We are back for a full length episode! This week we are talking about the murder of Jonbenet Ramsey! STORY BEHIND THE KRUMPING JOKE: We just wanted to be super clear that we were in no way shape or form making fun of the art of Krumping in this episode. Slam was going to wrap presents while we were recording but thought maybe the mics would pick up the noise of her cutting paper. And I had said you’re just wrapping presents it’s not like your... krumping Or something (and for some reason krumping was the only noisy activity I could think of in the moment!) so of course at the thought of my fiancé slam krumping sent us into 15 straight minutes of hysterical laughter because if you know slam you know how funny it would be to see her try and krump. So just wanted to make really clear that we totally respect the art of krumping and was not making fun of it at all but rather laughing at the thought of slam trying to do it. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

MBA steht für be in Motion, feel Better, stay Authentic. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thehealerhiphop/message

The relationship between music and religion is a site of increasing interest to scholars within Religious Studies. Monica Miller, Assistant Professor of Religion and Africana Studies at Lehigh University, explores the social processes and human activity related to Hip Hop music and its accompanying cultural expressions. In Religion and Hip Hop (Routledge, 2012) she introduces us to the various methods that have been used to examine Hip Hop culture and the descriptive terrain of previous scholarship. What is possibly the most laudable aspect of Miller’s efforts are her continued and repeated explorations into the purposes, effects, and operations of theory and method in the study of religion. In this regard, she does not perform a theological or religious analysis of music or lyrics as a search for meaning but rather examines the material productions of Hip Hop culture and the manufactured zones of significance within various discourses. Miller looks at the public context of Hip Hop culture and its relationship to larger social pathologies, the religious rhetoric and style of Hip-Hop knowledge productions or books written by Hip Hop artists, and a visual ethnography of the dance culture of Krumping where the body is examined as a site of significance through aesthetics, style, taste, and dispositions. Very often these interrogations challenge the category of religion in new ways and leave us asking what counts as religion and what is left out. Altogether, Miller does a lot in this book, much of which we did not get to discuss in detail. In our conversation we discussed authorial authority, social constructionism, youth religious participation, the Black Church, KRS One, morality, intentionality and habitus, complex subjectivity, postmodernism, classification, and many other interesting things.
