For the first time in history, just over 50% of all races are run by women.   While women are leading in the number of participants, research on women in sport is still stubbornly behind the guys'. We know that women and men perform differently, carry and use fat differently, as well as react to pain differently. Typically, men are bigger, stronger, and faster, until you get to the ultra distance, where women can actually break the tape first. On today's Run to the Top, Dr Megan Roche, 5-time national trail champion and Stanford researcher explores the science behind the biological differences between men and women in endurance running.   And this is not just a show for the women runners. Guys, you'll want to listen up as well if you want to know why the women are getting better and better. The Gemara comments, "Just as when Ab comes we reduce our joy, when Adar comes we increase our joy." Rather than simply establishing the obligation to increase our joy during the month of Adar, the Gemara found it necessary to compare the month of Adar and the month of Ab. The requirement is not simply to increase our joy during Adar, but to increase our joy just like we reduce our joy during Ab. What is the meaning behind this comparison? How does the increase of joy during Adar resemble the decrease of joy during Ab?We can answer this question by taking a closer look at the mourning we observe for the destruction of the Bet Ha'mikdash. Our Sages teach, "Every generation in whose time the Temple is not rebuilt – it is as though it was destroyed in that time." This means that if G-d has not yet restored the Bet Ha'mikdash, this is because if He did, He would have to destroy it again. We are just as unworthy as the generation of the destruction, and thus if the Temple would be rebuilt in our time, it would be have to be immediately taken from us. Indeed, the Zohar famously comments that the Bet Ha'mikdash is being built in the heavens at all times. Each time we perform a Misva, we add another brick to the building, whereas every misdeed causes a brick to be removed. Eventually, when the building is complete, G-d will bring it down to us. This is why we pray each day in the Amida, "U'bneh Otah Binyan Olam Bi'mhera Be'yamenu" (literally, "Build it as an eternal structure, speedily and in our days"). This may be read to mean that G-d builds the Temple "Be'yamenu," with "our days," based upon how we spend each day of our lives. If we use our time for Misvot, then we accelerate the building, whereas if we transgress G-d's laws, we sabotage the process. Hence, the fact that the Temple has not been rebuilt testifies to our failure in building it, and demonstrates that we are not doing what we are supposed to do in order to bring it back. And thus when we mourn for the Mikdash, we are not commemorating a tragedy that took place millennia ago. Rather, we lament a tragedy that is happening in the present – the ongoing destruction caused by our unworthiness. Indeed, the Sages teach us that G-d endowed the human being with a natural capacity to forget and recover from a painful loss after a year, which is why mourning practices for a deceased parent, Heaven forbid, last only one year. Yaakob Abinu was incapable of finding consolation after Yosef's disappearance only because Yosef was still alive; if Yosef had actually died, Yaakob would have felt consoled after a year. And yet, we continue to mourn for the Mikdash. This itself signifies that we mourn for something that is happening in the present, and not for an event of the ancient past. This concept explains the Gemara's remark, "Whoever mourns for Jerusalem merits to see its celebration." The Ritba (Rabbi Yom Tob Ben Abraham of Seville, Spain, 1250-1330) noted that the Gemara employs the present tense – "Zocheh Ve'ro'eh Be'simhatah" ("merits to see its celebration"). Rather than saying that a person who mourns will, in the future, experience the joy of a rebuilt Jerusalem, the Gemara says that he experiences it in the present. The Rabbis explained that our mourning for Jerusalem is itself cause for joy. If we can still cry and mourn for the Bet Ha'mikdash, it must mean that it is still somehow in existence. If it was taken away from us completely, we would be incapable of mourning; we would have forgotten about it and already feel consoled. It is only because the Mikdash exists in the heavens, awaiting completion, that we continue to grieve, bemoaning the fact that we continue to be unworthy of its restoration. It emerges, then, that when we mourn the destruction of the Mikdash, we mourn an event that is happening right now, in the present, and not an event that transpired many centuries ago.In a certain sense, this is true of all the holidays on the Jewish calendar. Holidays were not instituted for every miracle experienced by our ancestors. Several extraordinary miracles were performed in the time of Yehoshua – such as the sun standing in place, and stones falling from the heavens to kill Beneh Yisrael's enemies – and yet no holidays were established to commemorate them. The reason is that holidays were established only for miracles that occur each and every year. When we celebrate a holiday, it is more than a mere commemoration of a past event. The spiritual forces that brought about the original miracle return at that time on the calendar, and we observe the holiday to tap into those forces and reap the spiritual benefits they offer us.This is especially true of Purim. On Purim, the forces that triggered the miracle in Shushan return, and thus we are celebrating present events as much as we celebrate past events. Rav Baruch of Medzbodz (1753-1811) commented that this is the meaning of the Halacha established in the Gemara that one who reads the Megila "Le'mafre'a" (literally, "backwards") does not fulfill the Misva. Rav Baruch explained that one does fully satisfy the requirements of Purim if he celebrates "Le'mafre'a," perceiving it as simply a time to look back and celebrate past events. We celebrate what is happening in the present, the spiritual forces that return each year on Purim.Similarly, the Gemara in Masechet Besa says that one who wants to preserve his wealth should plant an "Eder" tree, which the Gemara explains is a tree that lasts "Dareh Dareh" – for generations. The word "Eder" is related to the word "Adar," which also lasts "Dareh Dareh." The special power and force of Adar is something which is experienced each and every year, not just in the year of the miracle in Shushan. Indeed, G-d proclaims after Beneh Yisrael's first battle with Amalek that this war is waged "Mi'dor Dor" – in every generation. Year after year, we receive new power to wage this battle against our foes. This is the meaning of the comparison drawn in the Gemara between the mourning of Ab and the celebration of Adar. We celebrate during Adar just as we mourn in Ab. Just as in Ab we mourn the events of the present – our ongoing failure to bring down the Mikash – similarly, in Adar we celebrate what is happening in the present, the renewed power we are given to defeat the "Haman's" who rise against us.This concept also explains the otherwise perplexing comment in the Gemara that on Purim one must drink to the point where he cannot distinguish "Ben Arur Haman L'Baruch Mordechai" (literally, "between ‘Cursed is Haman' and ‘Blessed is Mordechai'"). This might refer to the prayer we recite on Purim when we declare, "Arur Haman Asher Bikesh Le'abedi, Baruch Mordechai Ha'yehudi" – "Cursed is Haman who sought to annihilate me; blessed is Mordechai the Jew." The words that are found between the phrase "Arur Haman" and "Baruch Mordechai" in this passage are "Asher Bikesh Le'abedi." The Gemara requires us to drink to the point where we cannot identify the precise significance of these three words. The first letters of these three words are "Alef," "Bet," "Lamed," which spell the word "Abel" – "mourner" – alluding to our mourning for the Bet Ha'mikdash. However, these three letters also allude to the words "Echol Be'simha Lahmecha" ("Joyfully eat your bread") – referring to the Purim festivities. On Purim, we are to perceive the mourning of Ab and the celebration of Adar as one and the same. Both are based on present events, rather than commemorating events of the past.Significantly, Rashi, in his commentary on the Gemara, explains the Halacha of "Mi'shenichnas Adar Marbim Be'simha" – that we increase our joy when Adar begins – as based on the fact that the onset of Adar begins the period of Purim and Pesah. We rejoice during Adar not only because of Purim, but also because of Pesah. This is because Pesah, too, does not merely celebrate the past events of the Exodus, but rather celebrates the renewed spiritual power that we receive. Pesah, the time when we achieved freedom from Egypt, is the time when we are given special capabilities to break ourselves free from any "bondage" that we experience, such as addictions, bad habits, weaknesses, negative character traits, and so on. The celebration of Pesah is also focused upon present-day events as much as on past events, and thus it, too, is mentioned in the context of the joy of Adar.In order to truly experience the spiritual power of Purim, though, we need to prepare ahead of time for the holiday. Many people mistakenly think that holiday preparations involve mainly the purchase of new clothes and foods, and the time leftover can be used for learning and study about the holiday. The precise opposite is true – the primary preparations we need to make in anticipation of a holiday is our study about what the holiday is all about. And thus in the days and weeks leading up to Purim, it behooves us all to make time to learn about this special day. This is why the Rama (Rabbi Moshe Isserles of Cracow, 1525-1572) writes in Shulhan Aruch that one who forgot to recite Al Ha'nissim in its proper place in Birkat Ha'mazon recites a special "HaRahaman" in the "HaRahaman" section of Birkat Ha'mazon. Some Rabbis wondered why in such a case a person can "transform" Al Ha'nissim, which gives praise and thanksgiving to G-d for the miracle, into a prayer. When said in the form of a "Ha'Rahaman" prayer, Al Ha'nissim is switched from a paragraph of phrase into a request asking that G-d should perform miracles for us. Why should this prayer be changed in a case of one who forgot to recite it in its proper place? The answer is that one who forgot to recite Al Ha'nissim in Birkat Ha'mazon must have failed to adequately prepare for Purim. If he had been preparing properly, it is inconceivable that he would have forgotten to include Al Ha'nissim. He must therefore turn to G-d and pray that he should be able to feel the miracles of the day that are happening in the present, and experience the special spiritual quality of Purim.Purim day is a very precious, 24-hour opportunity to achieve spiritual greatness. We must take advantage of this opportunity by ensuring to properly prepare for its celebration, and to use the day as a time of prayer, song, Torah learning, and genuine rejoicing, and with G-d's help, we will be privileged to experience the special power of Purim and to see miracles like those performed during the time of Mordechai and Ester.

LMNT When coaching endurance runners of all levels to be their best, I always emphasize the need for proper hydration with the right balance of electrolytes.  Most athletes I've coached are surprised to learn that their sodium needs are actually much higher than they expected and it's been hurting their performance.  Part of the reason athletes need much more sodium than they think is not just because they lose electrolytes through their sweat, but also because athletes tend to eat very healthy diets. They've been told that salt is a bad thing in food and frequently don't get enough for their lifestyle.  Much of the science of sodium is based on people who eat highly processed diets which also are very low in potassium. It could actually be the low potassium levels causing the issues that sodium has been blamed for!  What is clear is that both sodium and potassium at the proper levels are essential for high performance (and for life in general!).  That's why we partnered with LMNT to offer a free sample pack of their electrolyte mix. Head to drinklmnt.com/runnersconnect to get yours now. The Sample Pack includes 8 packets of LMNT (2 citrus, 2 raspberry, 2 orange, and 2 raw unflavored).

After his 1993 retirement he began working on the leaked Majestic Documents and was able to verify the authenticity of many of these controversial documents which can be found at MajesticDocuments.com. Dr. Wood was the first UFO researcher to verify the authenticity of Bill Tompkins claims of having worked at a secret think tank, Advanced Design, hidden within Douglas Aircraft Company that designed kilometer(s) long spacecarriers for the US Navy, with the help of Nordic-looking extraterrestrials. In this interview discussing the release of the third volume of Selected by Extraterrestrials, Dr. Wood discusses his first hand knowledge of key corporate officials that Tompkins worked under, the feasibility of a secret think tank at Douglas, Tompkins work with the US Navy during WWII, the Nazi secret space program established in Antarctica, the Nazi connection with Reptilians, and other issues. In this episode of the podcast, I discuss the MLB lockout and why the place should be placed upon the shoulders of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and the owners. Since 2002, the revenues for MLB has increased by an average of eight percent per year. However, the owners proposed luxury tax threshold increase from 2022 to 2026 is just 4.5 percent overall. MLB Revenue and TV Deals In 2019, the revenue for America's pastime was a record $10.7 billion dollars. What's more, MLB and Turner Sports reached a seven-year, $3.75 billion dollar TV contract rights extension. Important to note: this deal was a 65% increase from their prior deal. Next, the league and Disney agreed to a seven-year, $3.85 billion dollar in total. Significantly, both the Disney and Turner Sports deals are scheduled to start this year. WNBA Furthermore, I talk about the WNBA fining the New York Liberty $500,000 for violating the CBA for chartering flights for their players. According to the CBA, teams are to fly commercial for games on the road and players must receive "premium ceremony" seating if available. Surprisingly, the option of terminating the franchise was put on the table. All things considered, the Liberty made a proposal to make charter flights universal for all teams in the WNBA. But, there wasn't enough support for it. Today's Topic: Whether we're aware of it or not, the way that we behave is SIGNIFICANTLY determined by the set of beliefs that we hold that help us make sense of the world...and ourselves.  We call this set of beliefs our mindset, and it influences how we think, feel and behave in any given situation.  Our mindset around our dogs works in the same way.  If we believe that our dogs need to be "dominated" before they have the opportunity to "dominate" us, for example, the way we treat our dogs will be significantly influenced by that mindset.  That's why we've invited certified professional dog trainer, behavior consultant, and the founder of From Dusk Till Dog, Erika Gonzalez, to the pod, to discuss the crucial mindset changes that she imparts on her clients to help them re-contextualize how they think, feel and behave towards their dogs.Guest Bio: Erika Gonzalez is the Founder of From Dusk Till Dog and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and Behavior Consultant who graduated with distinction from CATCH Canine Trainers Academy. This exceptional book is composed of a series of transformational and deeply inspiring true stories. It was written, edited, and assembled by a group of men who have learned from their pasts and have become laser focused on building their futures with brilliant hope, unshakeable faith, and great determination. “We are all sinners, but some of us got caught.” That was the first sentence out of my mouth when I had the privilege of being invited as one of the guest speakers during an EQUIP graduation ceremony of 150 inmates at the Correctional Training Facility (CTF) in Soledad, California. When my dear friend, Roger Nielsen (a true servant leader who had experienced a life transformation while in prison), informed me about this opportunity, I was both excited and nervous at the same time. I really didn't know what to expect, how to connect with the inmates, or even where to start; I just wanted to be able to serve and add value to the lives I would encounter. This was my first experience speaking at a prison, but for sure, it was not going to be the last. I was impressed by the energy, passion, and excitement of these men. When they were worshiping before the ceremony, they were passionately singing, and for a moment, I thought I was in heaven. I learned very quickly that if you can be happy where you are, then you can transform and impact the world for bigger and be inspired by these men—all of whom reside within a prison and have the heart to share with the world the lessons they have learned from their poor choices, wrongdoings, and illegal activities. When I was leaving the prison, I remember telling my family that even though I have attended hundreds of seminars, leadership events, and workshops, I felt that this was hands down one of my best experiences in life. It was interesting that my wife immediately reminded me that this was God's plan, and the reason it was so fruitful is that He had planned it way in advance. I am so grateful to God and thankful to my friends Roger Nielsen, Richard Mireles, and Ted Gray for allowing me to be a small part of this amazing journey. I am certain this book will be life changing. It is my belief that it will impact generations of people—from the youth to the elderly—who may be dealing with the challenges of drug addiction, crime, gangs, or any other obstacle that one may happen to face. If you've ever found yourself feeling lost and insignificant, Men Built for Others, conveys your story. If you've made wrong choices and felt condemned to a life of painful and indescribable regret, this book is also for you. Men Built for Others, has taught me you can learn to be happy wherever you are in life. And when you learn this critical skill, I believe you then have the capacity to SIGNIFICANTLY impact the world. Men Built for Others, is a sobering, eye-opening and powerfully engaging compilation of the harrowing journey life can take when we fail to value ourselves and the sanctity of human life. This book is uncensored, vulnerably raw, and insightful. Eleven true stories are written, edited, and compiled by men serving life sentences at the Soledad State Prison in California. This book has the power to change lives. If you're dealing with adversity, destructive habits, or perhaps desperately trying to help a loved one; this is a tool for transforming life's worst setbacks into powerfully miraculous comebacks. Nick Dashwood Brown, Head of Investor Relations at Anexo #ANX discusses their trading update which sees full year revenue growth exceeding forecasts and profit before tax being significantly ahead of market expectations. FY 2021 Trading Update Anexo (AIM: ANX), the specialist integrated credit hire and legal services provider, is pleased to provide the following Trading Update in respect of the year ended 31 December 2021 ('FY 2021'). The Board is pleased to announce that revenue growth has exceeded the Group's forecasts and that profit before tax will be significantly ahead of market expectations. The Group's growth strategy has been supported by a sustained recovery in its core business following the easing of the second national lockdown in March 2021. The number of vehicles on the road in the Group's credit hire division, EDGE, reached record numbers in the second half of 2021 ('H2 2021'), peaking at around 2,500 in December 2021. The number of vehicles on the road currently stands at 2,300. The strong performance has been underpinned by a number of factors, including strong growth in the motorcycle courier market, the withdrawal of competitors due to Covid and the implementation of the Civil Liability Act in May 2021 as well as the deal with MCE previously announced on 25 November 2021. The gradual re-opening of the courts has been beneficial to the Group's legal division, Bond Turner, enabling litigators to increase case settlements and cash collection, supporting further investment in new cases. This trend is expected to continue as more courts return to normal working. On 7 December 2021 the Group announced the formation of a new Housing Disrepair team within Bond Turner. The team has made a strong start, with both new case and settlement numbers ahead of internal forecasts. The Group looks forward to considerable growth in this area in 2022. The Group continues to monitor developments in the legal action against Volkswagen AG (the 'VW Emissions' case). The Group is actively engaged with approximately 15,000 claims. As previously announced, all costs associated with marketing and the processing of claims have been expensed as incurred; investment in case acquisition and development in 2021 totalled £800,000. Notice of Final Results The Group will be announcing its Final Results for the year ended 31 December 2021 on Wednesday, 11 May 2022. About Anexo Anexo is a specialist integrated credit hire and legal services provider. The Group has created a unique business model by combining a direct capture Credit Hire business with a wholly owned Legal Services firm. The integrated business targets the impecunious not at fault motorist, referring to those who do not have the financial means or access to a replacement vehicle. Through its dedicated Credit Hire sales team and network of over 1,100 active introducers around the UK, Anexo provides customers with an end-to-end service including the provision of Credit Hire vehicles, assistance with repair and recovery, and claims management services. The Group's Legal Services division, Bond Turner, provides the legal support to maximise the recovery of costs through settlement or court action as well as the processing of any associated personal injury claim.

Flowster Live Demo https://flowster.app/live-demo/ Episode Highlights   [1:07] — The Benefits of Hiring a Virtual Assistant VAs are the single greatest addition to Trent's business arsenal. Significantly increases productivity at an affordable cost. [1:32] — Costs of Hiring a Virtual Assistant Trent typically hires most virtual assistants from the Philippines, while his personal assistant is from Mexico. You can hire a Filipino virtual assistant for around $4 an hour. Trent's executive assistant in Mexico gets paid about $6 an hour. Aside from being less expensive, it also saves costs from providing healthcare benefits. An hour-to-hour basis allows you to terminate them without hassle when they don't perform. [2:22] — The Role of a Virtual Assistant Allows you to focus on more critical tasks instead of $10 an hour jobs. You can hire a general VA for all the tasks you don't want to do. Hiring a specialized VA can help you with specific tasks like project management and content creation. Accomplish a collection of tasks that do not require experience. Some examples of these tasks are: Making phone calls and contacting venture partners and clients. Doing first-level research tasks and project management. Order management. Create content, graphic design, digital marketing, social media management, and email management. [5:22] — Where and How to Hire a Virtual Assistant Trent typically hires from the Philippines and Mexico. He hires VAs from Mexico to be in the same timezone as them. The best places to find virtual assistants are Upwork and OnlineJobs.ph. Make sure to put a unique code in the job description that you want applicants to put in their application. It will allow you to filter out qualified candidates more quickly. [8:23] — The Applicant Screening Process Trent's wife handles the hiring process of all their VAs. They have them complete a test task to filter out applicants who will do a good job. Test tasks are usually one to two-hour jobs. But instead, they tell them it could take up to eight hours and that they will get paid by the rate. The test task works as a trial run to find out who among the candidates does the job most efficiently. Schools began opening across the country in September this year, following the devastating second wave of COVID-19. By then, most of India's 24 crore students, had been out of schools for close to 18 months -- most children in kindergarten and first standard had never set foot in a classroom. The Annual Status of Education Report 2021, released last month, throws up some important facts about how students and teachers have fared over the pandemic years. Significantly, there was an increase in the proportion of children not enrolled in school, compared to pre-pandemic figures from 2018. Government schools saw a rise in enrolments, up from 64.3% in 2018 to 70.3% in 2021, while private schools recorded a dip -- from 32.4% in 2018 to 24.4% in 2021. Another important factor the survey highlighted was that online education, demonstrably, did not work for all -- while smartphone availability in homes almost doubled from 2018 to 2021, and 67.6% of students on average had a device at home, over a quarter of them had no access to it at all. But what needs to be done, going forward, in what is, arguably an unprecedented situation? A vast number of children may not be at the level that their grade and curriculum demand. What can schools and teachers do to deal with this? Do States need to frame policies and guidelines to help children get back on their feet, academically? Do we need to move away from a narrow, curriculum-driven approach that our school systems presently focus on? Simplify Your Sales and Business meetings. Lisa Thal is an Author, Speaker, and Business Coach. She has over 34 years of marketing, sales, and leadership experience. She wrote the book "Three Word Meetings."  Lisa coaches leaders on simplifying sales and business meetings with fun and interesting 3-word  topics to get your sales team motivated and inspired.   Episode 130, is about how you respond to change!   Change; you either love it or hate it. We all have experienced Change. Significantly, the past few years of Covid have created Change.     Time changes in Spring and Fall. I prefer the extra hour of sunlight, and we are about to start a New Year in a few weeks!   Our life circumstances Change—new relationships, marriage, divorce, kids, fur kids, and grandkids.    How about changes at work: Change in decision-makers. In compensation programs. Change in products offered and no longer offered. New hires for your company or reduction in workforce. Change in your career. The ability to work remotely. New leadership.   Change is all around us.   I want to share a story about a change for one of my team members.   I was in a coaching session where we focused on his key accounts and the strategy behind renewing them. And then we got to one account that was in jeopardy of not continuing into the new year.    Let me give you a little background on this account.   He started calling on this account over seven years ago. He was helping them with their - Sales and Marketing plan to advertise that they were accepting new patients. This particular account specialized in working with kids. Over the past seven years, he strategically helped them build their new customer acquisitions, client referral program and also helped them expand into multi-locations. Their business was thriving, so I was surprised by the possibility of them not renewing. He had developed a deep friendship in addition to helping them with their marketing.   I asked what had changed? He shared that another company was interested in buying her practice because it was doing well. Well, that was something I did not expect to hear. But, it was exciting news for the owner who built this unique company that was helping so many kids.   I went on to say, Well, good for them! Can you say Financial Freedom!    What an opportunity she had created for her and her family. And then I went on to say; I know this is tough for you. This situation could impact your income, and you have invested seven years in helping shape this opportunity for her.     I then shared these three words: Life's About Change! Followed by how you respond to Change is everything!    Let's face it; there are things out of control, like clients selling their company. We are in sales, and clients cancel or go to other vendors. The only thing we can count on is Change.   One of his largest accounts went away. Yes, it isn't very reassuring. But if we stay focused on that one account, that one situation, then we cannot focus on all the positive things happening with your business. Focusing on what went wrong shifts your focus on the worst things in your life versus the best. The solid relationships you have with your other 30 accounts, the impact you are making on these companies, and the problems you are solving for them.   Have you found yourself doing this? Our brain goes straight to tragedy. What other accounts are going to leave me? How will I ever replace them? Worst, How much income did I lose?   See, we again focused on what went wrong or could go wrong. Our brains highjacked us into what we lost, and it will challenge you to be successful if you focus on what went wrong vs. what can go right.   In this example, what went right was that he was a part of this success. I am confident the owner will share the differences he made in her company. There is an opportunity to continue working with them under the new leadership team. Or perhaps he can use this success to help create vertical sales in other markets by sharing his successful blueprint.   We are here to fight another day, especially those challenging days. Real growth shapes us through those uncertain times.    Change, how does it make you feel?     Does it bring about fear, trepidation, angst, uneasiness?  Or does it bring forth excitement, anticipation, readiness, willingness?   What about " Keep up with Change," staying relevant, redefining, reimagining, radical transformation, adaptation, alterations, shifting landscapes, emerging issues, external forces, internal pressures, evolution, revolution, and the list goes on.   So how do we get better with Change? Lean into Change, embrace it.   Become more "adaptive" and decide to view all changes, whether welcomed or unwelcomed, as an expected part of life.     I believe it means that our mindset is how we can improve our chances to remain resilient and relevant in the face of significant and constant Change. We have the power to choose how we will respond to situations when they arise and whether we will see them as unfortunate occurrences or opportunities for growth.   I will choose to see an opportunity for growth. I hope that you are willing to do the same.   If you think someone could benefit from this episode, share it, do me a favor, rate it, or subscribe for Free at Itunes or Spotify, so you don't miss out on the next three-word podcast.   Learn more about how you can Simplify Your sales meetings using 3-word topics at http:/www.threewordmeetings.com .

This week's episode looks predominately at refugee (although, I do think I mention immigrant populations occasionally too) populations and my thoughts about some of the research I've been doing around lack of mental health support. I don't hear a lot talked about this community when speaking about ADHD or neurodivergence and that's a problem especially with the kind of things I learned. Indeed, there aren't many studies on it either and when there are, they tend to focus on refugees living within certain countries. Culturally competent care is so incredibly necessary because I think this episode shows how clinician biases can really keep people from seeing beyond what they want to see and not what else could be true at the same time too. This is one of a few episodes I've recorded on this topic around immigrant, refugee and asylum-seeking communities and neurodivergence. Three thoughts on:1. Significantly higher mental health needs2. Now that owners have had some time with their Rivian pickups, the real-world tests of the features that potential buyers are curious about are beginning. One of the most significant is a real-world towing test to prove range loss, especially as Rivian has flaunted its vehicle as a capable and dominant off-road pickup capable of handling the most stressful of tasks. - Instagram user @gideontherivian took it into their own hands to prove range loss, which evidently resulted in a 62% degradation of the battery after just 118 miles of travel. - @Gideontherivian‘s real-world towing test involves an open trailer with a Shelby Mustang GT on it - The Shelby and the Rivian R1T, along with the trailer, the vehicle's occupants, and additional cargo, bring a total weight of 14,260 pounds. It took a lot of cues from the Kia HabaNiro Concept from 2019, mostly seen at the front fascia and the funky body panel in between the C and D pillars. - Probably the biggest deviation in the cabin is the inclusion of a rotary knob for gear shifting, as well as the integration of two screens, one for the infotainment and the other for the instrument. However, this is just a design reveal for the 2022 Niro. Kia hasn't disclosed technical details for the small crossover, though we know that it's going to arrive with three powertrain options: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and EV. 1 Timothy 2:13-15 How Eve and Paul were alike, by Bruce C. E. FlemingThe focus of this episode is: 1 Timothy 2:13-15 How Eve and Paul were alike“What's this Dad?” I asked picking up the flat and pointed piece of chipped stone. “That's an arrowhead son,” he replied. “What's it doing here, Dad?” “Ahh. That's a great question!”“What's this doing here?” is what many ask when they come across the verses that are numbered as 1 Timothy 2:13-15. They ask, “Why do we find these words in this place?” One could say we have several figurative arrowheads to consider in these verses.- Why does Paul here bring up the Garden of Eden, and Adam and Eve?- Did they have something to do with the wayward women leaders Timothy was correcting in Ephesus? What?- Where in the text does the reference to Eden end in these verses?- Why does Paul bring up the birth of The Child in verse 15?- And who are “they” at the end of verse 15b?These questions can all be answered. We can answer them now because we have asked the right questions. We can answer them because we have looked at the context and the main actions Paul is recommending in 1 Timothy 2:8 to 3:16. We can answer them because we are not off-the-track wandering in the weeds looking for the answers to the wrong questions, which I'm afraid so many have done.Let's look at the literary structure of the passage as Paul presented these ideas. As we do we see where verses 13-15 belong in the development of Paul's thought. He has not written a linear progression of ideas in a 1, 2, 3 manner. He has written using a rainbow pattern of parallel ideas. The main idea is in the middle. On either side are ideas that echo and complete each other.Because verse 9 has no verb and begins with “likewise” we have to start back in verse 8. Then come verses 9-15 which are Paul's focused advice about correcting-in-order-to-restore-to-ministry the subgroup of wayward women overseers in Ephesus. In verse 8 Paul gives a command to Timothy. He wishes for the wayward men overseers to preach and pray in public worship with holy hands (not tainted by sin) with sound doctrine, which is not a source of angry disputing. In verses 9, 10 and 12, Paul gives a parallel command to Timothy. He wishes for the wayward women overseers to preach and pray in public worship with proper outward dress and behavior. In verse 11 Paul makes use of this passage's only imperative verb where he says, Let these women learn! as good students paying attention. Then, Paul opens a parenthesis in verses 13-15a before he returns in 15b to advice that parallels his earlier advice. That advice concerned the formerly wayward women overseers Timothy was to retrain and restore to ministry. Verses 13-15a serve as a digression. In them Paul justifies the course of action he is recommending. He explains why he is prescribing such gentle correction for them.Remember, with the wayward leaders Hymenaeus and Alexander back in 1 Timothy 1:20, Paul turned them over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme. But with these women wayward overseers he is recommending a very different kind of teaching. They are not being handed over to Satan to be taught. They are to be allowed to learn and get retrained as good students from Timothy himself, or by Priscilla or by other faithful overseers in the church at  Ephesus. Here's my paraphrase of verses 13-15a in the context of verses 2:11 to 3:111Let the women overseers who were wayward learn in quietness and with all studiousness. 12I am not permitting them to teach men in an incorrect way, but to be retrained in quietness.13Why? For, God formed the two in the Garden, Adam and then Eve 14and Adam was a first-degree eater. He was not deceived but sinned on purpose. But Eve was deceived and as a second-degree sinner, to that degree, she became a transgressor.15But she, Eve, would be saved through the birth of The Child who was to come, as will the women you are retraining if they persevere in faith, love, sanctification and self-control.3:1“Faithful is Jesus the Logos, the Word,” so if any one of those you are correcting aspires to oversight, that woman or that man desires a good work!Like Paul, like EveWhy? The Gospel of Mark recounts how Jesus' disciples were slow to learn the lesson of the multiplied loaves. First, Jesus fed the 5,000 from a few loaves and some fish (Mark 6:35-44). A second time, Jesus multiplied a handful of food into enough for four thousand people (Mark 8:1-9). A little while later, Jesus and his disciples found themselves in a boat with just one loaf of bread. The disciples were hungry and began to worry. Oh, what could they do in these dire straits?Carefully, Jesus talked to them about their cares and about their blindness to His power to provide for them again and again. He reminded them of all that had happened. Yet they still didn't understand (Mark 8:14-21). They needed to be told again. In similar fashion, just in case his message has not been fully understood, Paul adds several more verses in 1 Timothy 2. He wants to make sure his instructions about the correction of the errant women teachers are clear. Why does he recommend retraining for these women? In verses 13-15a, Paul calls attention to relevant details from the Garden of Eden.Because “intent” counts. Paul starts verse 13 with the conjunction “for” in Greek. He gives a reason “for” what he has just recommended. Then, he refers to Genesis 3. In the Garden of Eden there were two kinds of sinners. And in Ephesus, where Timothy was, there were two kinds of sinners:1. sinners who were deceived and sinned, and2. sinners who knowingly and defiantly sinned. In verse 13, Paul draws a clear distinction between the first man and the first woman. By referring to their two distinct creations, he focuses attention on them as two distinct individuals.13For Adam first was formed, then Eve.The lesson of verse 13 isn't who was first, but that there were two individuals created in the beginning – first one, then the other. Paul further distinguishes between these two by using the names, “Adam” and “Eve.”The use of these names in their historical setting is strikingly anachronistic. The woman was not called by the name “Eve” until Genesis 3:20. Yet, Paul uses that name referring to moments in history (Gen 2) that occurred before she was known as Eve.Similarly, the name “Adam” did not refer only-to-the-man at the point in time referred to by Paul in 1 Timothy 2:13. The name “Adam” could refer to them both (Genesis 5:2 – “He called their name Adam”). The man took the name “Adam” for himself, only after God judged him. Breathtakingly, the man rebelled one more time after God spoke to him in Genesis 3:17-19. This was another act of rebellion and self-rule, as opposed to submission to being ruled by the Creator. The man had named the animals who were subordinate to him in the Garden of Eden. He used the naming formula and called them their names. This is similar to the naming formula used today when the Queen or King of England says, “I dub you Sir So and So.” The first chance the man had to respond positively to God's speeches to the serpent, to the woman and to him, he responded negatively! He called the woman a name using the naming formula he used for the animals. He presumed to rule over her by naming her and treating her like just another one of the animals. How was she to respond to that? God was her Creator. God alone was her ruler. God was their Ruler. What to do with a husband who presumed to usurp God's role by ruling over her in this way?Two kinds of eaters. This is important to understand. In 1 Timothy 2:14, after distinguishing clearly between the first two individuals at Creation, Paul focuses on why and how each individual sinned. While it is clear that each one in the Garden is disobedient to God's command, the following differences exist between them after the Attack by the serpent tempter:1. The man was not deceived. He sins deliberately and knowingly (Gen 3:12).2. The woman was deceived and only then does she sin (Gen 3:13).In the Garden, God takes these differences into account when imposing judgment on the serpent tempter, on the woman and on the man. God imposes a curse on the serpent. The Hebrew word “curse” is used.Using words in a way parallel to his words to the serpent tempter, God imposes a curse on the soil. This curse is “because of” the man (Genesis 3:17). The Hebrew word for “curse” again is used. It is only used these two times. No “curse” is imposed on the man or on the women. Significantly, no curse is imposed because of the woman as had occurred because of the man. In Genesis 3, the Hebrew word “curse” only occurs in reference to the man (and the serpent tempter). There is something very different between the man's motives and actions. There is something very different in the way God treats the one and the other of these two humans in Eden. How does Paul know the woman is deceived? In Genesis 3:13, the woman says so, in an accurate admission to God of her wrongdoing. In 1 Timothy 2:14, Paul notes that the man is a different kind of sinner. He “wasn't deceived.” This distinction drawn between the two sinners is a distinction for Timothy to follow in correcting those who had gone astray in Ephesus. In 1 Timothy chapter 1, Paul referred to how God had judged him gently. Discerning Paul's intent, God dealt gently with him, and even put him into ministry because he had acted ignorantly and in disbelief (1:12).In modern-day courts, even murderers are judged differently, according to their intent. There is “murder in the first degree” for those who kill on purpose, or “with malice aforethought.” And there is “murder in the second degree,” or “manslaughter,” for those who kill but not with malicious advance planning.“Murder one” receives the harshest punishment. Manslaughter merits a lighter sentence.Paul had been a second-degree sinner. The way God dealt with him as a second-degree sinner is the way he wants Timothy to deal with those at Ephesus who also sinned in the second degree. The women described in 1 Timothy 2:9b and 12 are to be treated like Eve, and like Paul, who had not sinned on purpose. He is to let them learn and emphatically so.To underline this, in verses 13 and 14, Paul refers to the two sinners in the Garden in a different order from when each one sinned. If Paul had been preoccupied only with details of timing in Eden, he would have referred first to the woman and then to the man. Instead, he twice refers first to Adam, who sinned on purpose. Here is my paraphrase of verses 13-14 (italics added):13For, God formed the two in the Garden, Adam and then Eve14and Adam was not deceived, but Eve was deceived,  and to that degree became a transgressor.Don't be deceived! Some people charge that since the first woman was deceived in the Garden, all women are more easily deceived than all men! But Genesis does not teach this. Neither does Paul.Even though the man and the woman were co-regents over the earth by the Creator's decree (Genesis 1:27-30), some people claim that the timing in the creations of the man and the woman makes the man superior to the woman in some way.Indeed, this was the position held by rabbis at the time of Paul. They thought that a theological consequence could be discerned behind the sequence of events in the Garden. C. K. Barrett (Pastoral Epistles, p. 56) quotes their midrash: “Adam was first in creation, Eve [first] in sin.”Surprisingly, John Calvin held to this position. Even so, he found himself compelled to argue against it, admitting (Commentaries, 21) that any theological conclusions based on the “order of creation, appears not to be a very strong argument in favor of her subjection; for John the Baptist was before Christ in the order of time, and yet was greatly inferior in rank.”Verse 15a – Closing thoughts on Eden.It may seem tiresome to work our way over one interpretive “bump” after another. But as every good road builder knows, it is important to keep leveling the roadbed until it becomes flat and serviceable for all those who follow. In verse 15a, there is one more noticeable bump that needs to be smoothed out before the entire passage in 1 Timothy 2 can be clearly understood. It has to do with Paul's reference in Greek to “the Childbearing.” According to the Greek in the first part of verse 15, Paul writes:15aBut she will be saved through the Childbearing…The singular pronoun – “she” – of verse 15a refers to the woman who is discussed in verses 13-14 just before it. “She” is Eve!“The Childbearing” of Eve refers to the future birth, future for Eve, of the promised Child. Mary was the physical mother of Jesus, but Eve was his ancestor. Eve's “childbearing” resulted in the eventual “childbearing” of Jesus. The word “childbearing” is a collective singular noun, a single word packed with the promise of many. This way of speaking may seem awkward to the modern reader. But it is used twice in Genesis 3 when God first gives the promise of a Savior. In Genesis 3:15, God gives the menacing promise to the serpent that the “seed” or “offspring” of the woman will crush his head. The word “seed” is a collective singular noun.In the Hebrew wording of Genesis 3:16, Line 1, God promises the woman that she will have multiplied “conception.” The word “conception” is also a collective singular noun.Looking back at the Garden of Eden from the perspective of history, one can identify the promised “seed” of verse 15, and the “conception” of verse 16, as Jesus. Paul's use of the collective singular noun – “the Childbearing” – in 1 Timothy 2:15a in the context of a discussion on the Garden of Eden brings to mind Eve's promised offspring. This would have been recognized immediately by Timothy and the Jewish Christians at Ephesus, as a reference to the promised One, the Messiah.Eve would be eternally saved through her forward-looking faith in the coming birth of the Child. The women in Ephesus are saved through their faith in this same Child as well. Each one of us today faces the question of this Child. What will we do with Jesus?- Because in the Garden of Eden back in the beginning there had been an attack,- because the man and the woman were now mortal and hiding from God,- because their perfect union with God had been ruptured, God promised the certain conception of the seed of the woman. Why would God promise this? Why would God bother to do so?We learn over and over again in God's revelation in the Bible that God sent Jesus into the world because we need a Savior who will die in our place. When we ask God to forgive us and to send the Holy Spirit into our heart in new birth and the start of everlasting spiritual life, it is like we have one foot already placed firmly in heaven. We have the assurance repeated over and over again in the Bible that when we die God will pull up that other foot too. We instantly will be with Jesus firmly standing in heaven. The best Bible verse on this is that other 3:16 verse. In the Old Testament, in Genesis 3:16, God promised Eve that truly she would have conception of the Child who would crush Satan's head. In the New Testament, in John 3:16 we have this promise:For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.Once again, we see the love of God reaching out to us. We see God helping us return back to Eden in a perfect relationship with God with no break to occur ever again. This complete summary of Eve's situation in 1 Timothy 2:13-15a – as a deceived sinner in the 2nd degree, who is going to be saved because she places her faith in the coming Child – allows Paul to move on to a summation of his instructions to Timothy. He does this in the second half of verse 15 in verse 15b.In verse 15b, Paul changes subjects. He moves on from a singular subject, “she,” to a plural subject, “they.” If the first half of verse 15, verse 15a, had been counted as the end of verse 14 we could have seen this more clearly. Perhaps it is best to think of 2:15b as a new verse, or verse 16.In these words with a plural subject, Paul encourages once again the women who are learning, per his command in verse 11, to follow the wholesome pattern of those who have been right-living overseers all along, as he has described them in verses 9a, and 10.He names four aspects of right living and teaching that must be evident in their reformed lives:15bif they remain in faith, and love, and sanctification with all seriousness. The good news is that God gives John 3:16 to us today.  It is good news that was promised back in the Garden of Eden. It is good news that actually took place as Jesus hung on the cross and died for our sins, rose again, ascended into heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to live in the hearts of all who believe in Him and receive His gift of payment for our sins.Does that include you? If “Yes” is your answer, then I rejoice with you!Does that include you? If “Not yet” is your situation then I encourage you to pray to Jesus right away. Ask His forgiveness. Ask to be born again and for the Holy Spirit to come live in your heart. Like Eve, you too can be saved through the birth of The Child!LINKS
