This week's episode is centred around whether self-help ideas align with faith. The gospel teaches that we should put God first in all we do and ourselves last. Self-help teaches that you are the author of your own life and you need to put yourself first. However, focusing on yourself too much can lead to idolatry. Lu is joined with Hazel as they discuss these topics and how they remain focused on what is eternal. The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich. - Proverbs 13: 3-5TOPICS: - Can faith and self-help coexist? - Is our generation too self-obsessed in the quest for perfection? - How do you avoid developing an unhealthy self-fixation as a Christian? - How do you maintain your relationship with God whilst working on personal development? - Bible verses which motivate us in our personal development journey Instagram: @levelupwithluGet in touch: levelupwithlu@gmail.comHazel's blog instagram: @memoirsdaily
There's so much pressure in society to perform, be productive and effective. We believe every moment of the day must be spent working towards our goals. Taking time off to do nothing is seen as lazy. We are taught that once we achieve a goal, it's onto the next. Taught to strive for things which don't really matter in the end. Team No Sleep, Everyday I'm Hustlin', Grind 24/7...The problem with this mindset is that it lacks balance. Rest, reflection and contentment are equally as important as achieving your goals. Ultimately, it's not about the goal, it's about the journey to the goal. Listen to hear Lu and Hazel's thoughts on how we can learn to be more content and enjoy life in the present. In the third and final instalment of the relationship mini-series, Lu is joined by her childhood friend Kemi. We discuss love languages, attachment styles and how these have affected adult relationships. The way you show someone love may not necessarily be how they wish to receive it. Despite all the progress made, women's rights are still infringed on today. Women and girls are suffering from the effects of a world which sees them as second class citizens. Even in western countries, women are oppressed through misogyny, rape culture and gendered violence. In order to progress, we need to understand history and how it plays a role in the events we see today. British Black history is often omitted or taught under the umbrella of colonialism and slavery. However, this makes up a small percentage of the journey of black people in the UK. Not enough light is shed on the positive contributions black people have made and how ingrained we are in British history. Over the pond, black people are being oppressed through the very system that promises to 'serve and protect'. We can no longer sit back and watch this happen. We need to Educate, Participate and Activate if we are to see change in our society. “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”— Desmond Tutu TOPICS:- What does it feel like to be black in this society?- George Floyd, Amy Cooper + Police Brutality- Black Lives Matter + Protests- Black History + The Education System- Racism in UK vs USA- Microaggressions- Brands + Cooperations + Pull Up or Shut Up- Actions we can take RESOURCES: Educate, Participate + Activate: https://www.instagram.com/p/CA_EeqqF0P1/?igshid=e5a9za0gvmom Practical ways to support BLM in UK:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1x65xLdIUDWMUl4_nkuD-EeP98UuJ2nuknUDsqUm7R9s/htmlview A wealth of resources on the movement:https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ Instagram: @levelupwithlu Get in touch: levelupwithlu@gmail.com
