Money is never just about numbers; it is about identity, belonging, and whether you feel you have options. In this candid conversation, Dr. Felecia Froe sits down with financial services professional, author, and nonprofit founder Michelle Campbell to trace her journey from five evictions, four repossessions, three bankruptcies, and over half a million dollars in debt to becoming a fierce advocate for financial literacy and social change. Together, they unpack the emotional roots of overspending, why shame and silence keep people stuck, and how working-class earners are often the most overlooked when it comes to support and education. You will hear how Michelle connected her money patterns to a childhood wound, rebuilt her financial life by facing every envelope and every number, launched her nonprofit Hashtag Stability to serve people facing homelessness and financial crisis, and now uses tax law, planning, and advocacy to help others avoid the traps she fell into. 00:00 – From Omaha To Overwhelmed 05:58 – The Personal Side Of Financial Literacy 16:12 – Belonging, Overspending, And Rewriting The Story 26:34 – Hashtag Stability And The "Hidden Demographic" 38:23 – Money, Mental Health, And Access To Knowledge 48:17 – Tax Shell, Planning, And Choosing A Different Future
How Your Money Story Shapes Your Pricing: Bill Cates on The Hidden Heist (The Price and Value Journey, Episode 154) Many expert-service pros quietly carry money worries into every pricing decision they make. In Part 2 of this intimate conversation, Shari continues her discussion with Carl Richards, the New York Times “Sketch Guy.” If Part 1 was about the behavior behind money, Part 2 is about the beliefs behind your life. Carl opens up about how his simple sketches began, how a single comment from his wife reshaped his entire career, and why permission—not math—is often the missing piece in big financial and life decisions. He shares unforgettable stories, including the woman who left her prestigious Wall Street law job to return home and help her father run the family farm—because Carl granted her the “permission” she already had inside her. Shari and Carl also dig into fear, impostor syndrome, our inherited money stories, and why most of us wait far too long to trust what we know is true about our lives. This is the kind of conversation you don't just listen to—you feel it. You'll walk away with: – Why permission is often the bridge between intention and action – The emotional patterns that keep people stuck – How fear shows up at every major life moment – The story behind Carl's famous sketches – The one money belief Carl would give his 25-year-old self – Shari's own reflections on her younger self —and what she wishes she knew Shari closes the episode by sharing how Carl's influence shaped her practice, her philosophy, and the human-centered way she guides clients inside GWA Wealth. Based on John 21:1-13 In this episode of Perspectives FUMCSD Pastors Podcast, Rev. Hannah and Rev. Trudy wrap-up the Our Money Story stewardship series. They explore what it means to respond to God’s call — both personally and as a faith community. Inspired by the “postscript” chapter of John’s Gospel, this conversation dives into the miraculous breakfast on the shore: a moment that combines miracle, relationship, and eucharist — reminding us that the resurrection isn’t just about following Jesus, but about how we live, belong, and serve together. Join the female pastors of First United Methodist Church of San Diego as they unpack what this story means for our stewardship journey: How do we respond to God’s invitation when we feel empty or discouraged? What does it mean to bring what we have — our time, talent, and treasure — to feed the community? How can we honor our different gifts and responses as part of one thriving body of faith? This is a story of recommissioning — a reminder that the call continues and the story is still being written. We invite you to continue to think about how we can respond to God’s call as a faith community today. Join our in-person Convergence group or our online community at patreon.com/fumcsd. Here are the discussion questions for this episode: Have you ever had to keep trying even when there were no results from your efforts? Have you ever responded “No” to God? In this episode, Christina Lecuyer gets real about a moment that hit harder than she expected — being called a “life coach.” What seemed like a simple label sparked frustration, self-doubt, and a deeper question of identity. Christina opens up about what it's like to feel misunderstood in your work, why certain words can trigger old insecurities, and how to move through emotional reactions instead of letting them define you.She shares the inner work she had to do: realizing where the anger came from, why proving herself mattered so much, and how she reclaimed her voice and confidence in the consulting space. This episode is for anyone who has ever felt misjudged, underestimated, or boxed into a version of themselves that didn't feel true.If you're in a season of redefining yourself, this conversation reminds you that growth is rarely clean — but always worth it.
In this week’s episode, Rev. Brittany and Rev. Trudy continue the Our Money Story series with a deep dive into the concept of Jubilee — one of the “holiness codes” of Leviticus. What does it mean to live a life of holiness, stewardship, and community in a world that often feels far from those ideals? As the people of Israel prepared to enter the Promised Land, they were asked to imagine a new way of living — one marked by rest, release, and restoration. The Jubilee year invited them to reset by freeing servants and forgiving debts. It was a remembrance that everything ultimately belongs to God. The female pastors of First United Methodist Church of San Diego explore: • How holiness is dynamic — something practiced with intention and vigilance • What Jubilee teaches us about community, stewardship, and freedom • Why imagining a new way of being is the first step toward living it • How modern communities can embody Jubilee through inclusion, acceptance, and generosity Through the digital Bible study, we’re reminded that even though Jubilee may seem impossible to live out on a large scale, there’s incredible power in small, grassroots acts of forgiveness and freedom. We invite you to continue to reimagine Jubilee for the modern world. Join our in-person Convergence group or our online community at patreon.com/fumcsd to discuss the questions for this episode: What would you imagine if Jubilee was practiced? What would you do if all of your debts were forgiven? What do you think would surprise you if you learned a little more about someone who was living on the streets? Rev. Hannah and Rev. Brittany are back in the Video Studio continuing their discussion on money, the church, and what it means for modern Christians. This time, they’re talking about the concept of helping community members by opening our hands and hearts and releasing debts, providing financial freedom and relief to others. It’s a conversation they’ve titled: Our Money Story – Release. The two female pastors are inspired by Deuteronomy 15 and God’s vision of releasing debts, providing rest, and granting freedom every seventh year. Through the biblical passage, they notice it’s a story of abundance, acknowledging that as a church community, we’ll always have more than enough, so there is no need for an inward focus of hoarding personal assets instead of having an external focus of communal support and prosperity. They describe it in this straightforward way of thinking: If you have, you give. The women clergy of First United Methodist Church of San Diego also use this digital Bible Study to discuss: The shifting definition of Sabbath from the nomadic times of Exodus to the agricultural community of Deuteronomy. The coexistence of personal economy and communal economy. God isn’t calling for charity; they’re local for a system that doesn’t allow for deep debt with no hope of financial freedom. The difference between the rhythm of grace and the rhythm of greed. There are a lot of concepts packed into this short conversation, so we encourage you to engage with others as you uncover your thoughts about financial release. You can do so through our in-person Convergence group or joining our online community at patreon.com/fumcsd. Here are the discussion questions for this episode: What would “release” look like in our world today? What would it mean to stop the relentless cycle of debt — emotional, financial, spiritual — that keeps people captive? The female pastors of First United Methodist Church of San Diego are kicking off a new conversation series: “Our Money Story.” Money is at the root of so many conflicts, so these talks are sure to be interesting! First up, Rev. Hannah and Rev. Brittany look back at Exodus 16:1-8 with a conversation titled “Remember.” If you listened to our podcast last year, you may recall we had a similar series, focusing on personal and family money stories. But this year, we’re focused on the money story of the institutional church. With this theme of remembrance, the women clergy encourage us to look back at the past money stories of the church to understand the challenges and victories we may face today and in the future. Some themes and ideas they uncover include: The fear of not having enough, leading to scarcity mindset and hoarding. The psychological theory Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and how it applies to the ancient Israelites. How our past experiences guide current decisions, even when our financial situation is different. The need to pool resources as a church to ensure everyone’s needs are met. Ultimately, they ask: If our resources come from God, who should authority of it over God? Why do we control resources and gatekeep what others can access? It’s a lot to consider, so we encourage you to engage in conversations with others as you dig deep to uncover your thoughts about money and the church. You can do so through our in-person Convergence group or joining our online community at patreon.com/fumcsd. Here are the discussion questions for this episode: What does this passage say about God's care for the vulnerable? Welcome to this week's Blonde Intelligence, I am your host Ms. Roni and I always seek to give you exquisite cranial repertoire. The courtroom weighed a bar, not a brawl—and the ruling changed the temperature of the timeline. We dig into why the judge dismissed Drake's defamation suit by zooming in on the power of wording, context, and how hip‑hop frames accusation versus opinion. “I hear you like them young” isn't the same as “you do,” and that distinction matters when art collides with law. While the discourse flared, UMG cut through the noise with a simple stance: the case is over, the work continues, and if a hit lands, they'll promote it. That's the difference between public narratives about Ls and a label's reality of deliverables, contracts, and release cycles. From there, we clear up a persistent confusion: Cash Money's legacy stands on its own foundation—Juvenile, B.G., Hot Boys, Mannie Fresh, the 99–2000 era—long before Young Money reshaped the mainstream with Drake and Nicki. When fans fuse those histories during moments of drama, they miss the architecture that made the house sturdy. We talk optics, support, and why legacies don't hinge on who liked what post or who showed up where. We also explore smarter genre pivots, using the rap‑rock playbook that works—collaborations that translate sound instead of forcing it—so artists can evolve without abandoning the audience that built them.Along the way, we pause to acknowledge local wins and why real community moments outlast social chatter. And we get candid about platform accountability: when moderation can erase years of marketing in a click, creators need direct channels, clear appeals, and spaces they own—sites, newsletters, and word‑of‑mouth that can't be shadowed overnight. Money is rarely just about math—it's about stories, habits, emotions, and, for ADHDers, often a deep sense of shame. In this episode, Pete and Nikki sit down with Nicole Stanley, financial coach and founder of Arise Financial Coaching, to unpack the hidden ways ADHD intersects with our finances—and how we can finally start to build a healthier, ADHD-friendly relationship with money.Nicole shares her own diagnosis journey and the challenges of postpartum depression, financial anxiety, and feeling “not enough” as a new mom.
